Sorry about all the separate replies...

Shorten is lossless, isn't it?  If so, you should be able to transcode
into Flac without needing to re-rip those CDs.  Assuming there's some
metadata (id3v2?) in the files, you may also be able to transfer the
tags.  Look into dbpoweramp for doing the conversion - I believe it
supports Shorten with the appropriate codec installed.
