I've yet to find a really well rounded digital music library manager, and I've tried most including all the culprits previously named in this thread. OrangeCD is a reasonable contender, however it lacks some basics like being able to stipulate the cover art filename so it seems to pick up whatever jpg file it happens to find first in the music folder. Integration to Slimserver is an added bonus.
At the end of the day though, there is a massive gap between a killer music management app and what is out there today. I think the problem is that the apps in existence are developed with ipod kiddies in mind rather than a serious user who wants a data rich application to explore and manage a large music library with in a world where your physical CD's are nowhere to be seen. If I had the time and skills I'd write one myself. For my money, I'd leave the ripping / encoding aspect out of the app as there are many excellent tools out there to take care of that aspect. The music library would be: - tied in to allmusic.com for content retrieval (artist bios, discographies and masstagging). Album specific data would be written to the audio file itself, much like is now possible with mp3tag and the allmusic script addin. - integrated with MusicIP's SDK and allmusic Tapestry for playlisting - offer the ability to print your album collection including cover art etc so that you can browse your collection physically. It would offer a content rich interface that would allow you to explore artists, albums, biographies, reviews etc. - these would be stored in a database and updatable from allmusic.com -- egd Transporter >> SCA2 >> SCM100SLAT via balanced XLR Linux and loving IT! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ egd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3425 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34786 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
