[arr] Rahmaniacs celebrate Oscar win @Nethrodhya
We de Chennai fans celebrated ARR's double oscar win by spending the evening with the members of Nethrodhya,,, Now we have an emotional bonding with Nethrodhay as our very first event took place der about an year and a half ago.. But this time it was different..de was no song from our side we just left the inmates to talk abt how dey felt abt ARR... it was great to hear dem talk.. Following this dey were askin questions to Rehana madam who had come all the way, we take this oppertunity to thank her for coming answering them it was great.. we also learnt a lot of of things thro this We den had de cake cutting the cake was designed to the shape of the Oscars...the Cake cutting was followed by serving of dinner b4 which we had a small prayer for ARR and his family..after serving dinner we had a nice time dancing to ARR's tunes.. All in all it was a greeat evening a lot of new members had come which was very ncouraging :) Thanks to Rehana madam Nethrodhya- Music World Anna nagar- And all the Rahmaniacs who made it possible.. It's a film that, as my friend told me, demands and requires to be seen in one sitting, with no interruption by commercials and visits to the loo.But look at the themes of the other movies that were nominated this year. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the love story of a man who is born as an extreme geriatric and keeps getting younger and dies as a newborn. Only for a brief period of time are the man and his beloved around the same compatible age. Of course it's an impossible concept and completely unbelievable, but it's a high concept. Milk is about the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the United States; Frost/Nixon about the first interview disgraced US President Richard Nixon gave, to has-been TV journalist David Frost. For both of them, it is a chance for redemption, for a somewhat sane life. These are all big themes. I am not doubting Slumdog's quality as a film in any way. Danny Boyle is one of the most talented directors around. But comparing Slumdog to The Reader is almost impossible. It's like comparing A Christmas Carol to Great Expectations.Scrooge won, little Pip lost. But that's the way it has been with the Oscars. Sometimes the nominations reflect the mood of America's liberals, sometimes the winners reflect political correctness. In 2006, the following five films were nominated: Good Night and Good Luck, Brokeback Mountain, Crash, Capote and Munich. Good Night and Good Luck is about a TV broadcaster who took on the McCarthyist witch hunt in the 1950s; essentially about freedom of the press. Brokeback Mountain deflated the entire mythology of uber- macho frontiersmen by portraying a deep homosexual relationship between two cowboys. Crash interlinked several stories to study racism in all its forms and in startling ways. Capote was about the gay writer Truman Capote who travels to the South of the US to write a book on two multiple murderers. Munich told the story of the Israeli agents who hunted down the Black September terrorists who killed Israeli athletes during the Munich Olympics, and asked the question: To take revenge, do we become as base as the men who are our targets?There's a clear pattern: anger over the Iraq war, the stifling of the media, the stranglehold of neo-conservatism, the contempt for minorities. The denizens of Hollywood were simply reacting to their world as they saw it. The other major critically-acclaimed movies of that year were Transamerica, about one man's battle to change his gender, and Syriana, which told Americans that their nation's policies were largely responsible for Islamist terrorism.Then there's political correctness. Gandhi won Best Picture over ET. The Academy decided that the biopic of a great and influential leader was more important than the woes of a cute alien stranded on our planet. (This incensed Steven Spielberg so much that he decided to give the Academy the important films they felt comfortable with, and made The Colour Purple - which didn't win any Oscars - and Schindler's List - which raked them in.) AR.Rahman the musical storm landed in chennai after takin the world over..and his arrival was just magical...ppl came up in huge number to catch a glimpse of their favorite musician and the Oscars which he was carryin and AR was more dan pleased to do dat... His house and de streets were decorated.. and de street was filled with fans der was not much way for AR's car to come inShivamani gave a electrifyin performance followed by a small apperance by ARR... But our day started in a grand note ...about 20 Rahmaniacs gathered in Music worl on their bikes.. and we set out on our journey around de city carryin banners of ARR...it was an xperience none of us will forget soon..after roamin thro the streets of chennai we landed up at the airport just to find that a huge huge crowd had already arrived at the airport...our bike journey was studded with loads of photo shoots and loud singin jai ho was de anthem of the day and ppl passin us gave us a thumps up and some chanted Jai ho... it was awesome. Once in the airport we knew dat our chances of gettin a close gilmpse of the mastreo and his oscars were remote but we started to entertain us in a different manner.. we started singin(i might be wrong we were jsut shoutin) songs of ARR and the xitement level went up...den it was shiva mani who came and he used our banner as a background to make some statements..(will upload de video soon) He was like we are goning to Rock and dat is xactly wat we did once AR came out of de airport he rushed to his car and he was almost flyin to his house we had a tough time catchin him but we were der when he reach his street...we were welcomed with fireworks and a huge crowd...the whole steet was full... AR went straight into his house after stayin o de road for abt 30- 45minMean while the crownd was getting restless adn it was upto shivmani to keep de fans swayin to his beats.. Shiva was playin most of Rahmans old hits on his drums starting from kadaldesamit was greatthe great man he is ARR came out of his house afte sayin his prayers and doin away with the press,ARR stepped out of his house,,... ,he did not know wat to do the stage set for him was filled with fans so he just repeated jai ho thrice,,,and he joked sayin dat he will not change his house so ppl can come @ anytime to meet him,,Fans were litterly turning into a mob..lucky i was near AR at that time, i tried to control de crowd but before i got a hang of this crowd management ARR was done and had gone into his house... Some other intresting things we did in during our Roadtrip When the Fans were not cooperating he had a nice time sitting near a corner post... and eating some kulfi icecream,, During our drive down we realised dat the banner was causin us to slow down dats when den we decided to make slits in the banner.. After all it was such a memorable day

Just read on... As Slumdog Millionaire eyes the coveted Oscars on February 22, thousands of tsunami victims in this part of Tamil Nadu are praying for music maestro A R Rahman's success, fondly remembering the healing touch he brought about in their lives in the aftermath of the tragedy. Days after the tsunami attack, Rahman made a rare public appearance in July 2005 at Kottucherrymedu village near Karaikal and spent nearly 10 hours there, enthralling tsunami survivors with his music. Though no publicity was given to the visit, thousands of tsunami survivors from about 11 fishing hamlets gathered there to listen to him. When Rahman arrived at the village along with Drums Shivamani and popular singers Hariharan, Karthik and others, about 600 school students gave him a warm welcome by singing patriotic songs composed by him. A large number of fishermen had gathered with garlands and shawls to present to Rahman. Later, he performed a two hour open air concert. Speaking to the media, A M H Nazeem, leader of the opposition in the Puducherry Assembly said he did not believe it when told Rahman was in the area. When I went there, he was standing in the beach interacting with the survivors. For the performance, there was no stage, no loudspeakers - absolutely nothing, said Nazeem. Rahman asked the people to bring three boats and kept them upside down, which then became the stage. He had brought all the musical equipment. Then it was non-stop music for more than four hours, Nazeem said. Not only did he enthrall the villagers with his music, but also went for a boat ride with them. Accompanied by Nazeem and other fishermen, Rahman ventured into the sea in a fibreglass boat. While addressing the crowd, Rahman said he had come to the village on his own to bring happiness to the troubled hearts through music. He urged them to forget the sad memories of the tsunami and march ahead with courage and faith towards a bright future. Today, nearly four years later, people of the 11 hamlets are grateful for his gesture. The news of three Oscar nominations for Slumdog Millionaire has made them extremely happy. We are all praying that he wins Oscars in all the categories, said Senthil of Kottucherrymedu. He said the youth of the village planned to put up digital banners in praise of Rahman.

They're discussing lot about IR's music and specialities, nook and corner of his music. And visit Kamal Hasan's Orkt Community, they discuss a lot about Kamal (leave some exceptional posts apart) and his movies (for instance, they're discussing about Dasavatharam right from the movie release and revealing lot of info everyday). They look really logical and interesting to know about Kamal his talent.  In the same way, we've to discuss about ARR, his music and his talent and small small stuffs he hides in his music. So that other fans who have less knowledge on music (like me) will come to know the talent of ARR.  Just posting whether the movie shooting is started or not neither helps in understanding ARR's music nor his talent.  Hey Bergin, you do remember those days (I miss those days yaar)...!!! Hey guys it was a great day Today speacially for de Rahmanicas in Chennai. V had a great time celebrating ARR's birthday in advance wit Nethrodaya for more abt de organisation log on to http://www.nethrodaya.org/ about 20 of us organised this event which had songs sung by r very own Rahmaniacs pop Shalani was de Chief Guest and she did de Honours of Cutting de cake wit all of us singing Happy birthday to ARR.. man dat was a great xperience.. Megha an upcomin singer was also with us. and she lead us thro de singing v conducted some games for de inmates had breakfast and lunch with dem. v also found a girl in nethrodaya. who sings really well v were spellbound by de way she rendered China China assai.. have uploaded some pics includin de back stage events i would xtend my thanks to all those who made this event a grand sucees wat started as a radio event ended up as an event which v can never forget.. it was ARR's music which kept us goinin throout..and it was ARR and his music which made us unite for this ... for an interesting copy. That's why a month ago when we chanced upon
two music videos of an Uzbekistani artiste, we were surprised at their
similarities with two Rahman numbers. Iroda Dilroz has remixed two of
Rahman's numbers and is now keen on getting feedback from the Indian
composer. While Sevgi sadosi — the echo of love is a remix version of
the Uri uri number from Saathiya, Ko'ngillar bog'landi — Hearts got
tied together is a remix of the popular Mustafa Mustafa number. Both
the videos begin with a credit line: AR Rahman musiqasi. After a
month's chase, we finally managed to trace Iroda in Uzbekistan. In
broken English, she said that she is a Rahman fan. The conversation
concluded with Iroda singing Chandralekha in Tamil as well as humming

I regularly follow all his creative pursuits. I had even performed
Uri Uri and Mustafa Mustafa together with Rahman during his tours to
Malaysia and Dubai. Rahman had also suggested that I sing his song,
Chandraleyka, in my mother tongue. I just had two days before the tour
but I decided to take the risk and sing it in the original Tamil
language. I still can't forget how warmly it was received by the audience.

Interview: Sound of Rahman Rajeev Masand He is considered India's most respected musicians. He has been credited with giving Indian film music a global, a more original, more unique sound. He is also one of the highest selling artists in the world, having sold more than 50 million albums in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English. He has also made a very successful crossover to the West, while his roots, his first love, continues to be Indian music. He is A R Rahman. In an exclusive interview with CNN-IBN's Entertainment Editor Rajeev Masand, A R Rahman talks about Rang De Basanti, his music and some of his outstanding works. Rajeev Masand: The most obvious question first: Where did the dreadlocks go? A R Rahman: I went for Haj, so I had to get them off. Or you can say, to washed my sins, I got my hair chopped off. Rajeev Masand:That was your most marked characteristic. Do you miss them? A R Rahman: I know, but my wife likes me better now. Rajeev Masand:Rang De Basanti, your most recent work, is a film which really marked a milestone. Isn't it? Apart from the fact that it has great music and it's a great album, it is one of those rare soundtracks where the theme is blended perfectly with the music. Your earlier work Bombay and Taal were also examples of that. Do you agree? A R Rahman: Yes, I think so. The process with Rang De Basanti started when Rakeysh (Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, the film's director) told me the story, which had freedom fighters in it. I was working on Legend of Bhagat Singh with Santoshji at that time. So, I said that I would not do another film like this. Of course Rang De Basanti happened four years later. When I started on this film last year, what we decided to do was not to have anything which is preachy and going to bring people down. We wanted to go abstract and go counter-point, like people and children are dying there and we have a happy soundtrack, which is Ru Ba Ru and going to the light and there is more positivity rather than going along with the film. In fact, everything is in opposites -- like the song Khalbali, which has the word 'ziddi (stubborn)', and it came because of the tune. And then the way after the song was recorded, which Rakeysh used in the film, when Bhagat Singh refuses to take any food and becomes ' ziddi'. Now that is the stroke of a genius. And that's how things should be done, more interactively, not by having a per se idea and defining it. If you want to break and go on to the next level, you need to take a chance. Sometimes, it works out this way. And in this film, it all worked out, I guess. Rajeev Masand: One of my favourite songs in Rang De Basanti soundtrack is Lukka Chhupi. I have read a fair bit of criticism about the song, largely perhaps because it is a collaboration with Lata Mangeshkar. I could be wrong, but I guess the reason should have been Lata Mangeshkar. The song is really a mother's call and a mother's song. A R Rahman: See, the song was not designed to be in the film at all. I was doing the film and I was doing Ru Ba Ru and Khalbali and Pathshaala. I felt it was all upbeat and modern. What was the film about? It is about a call of a mother. It is how the characters in the film change. I was actually hearing a song from Born On The Fourth Of July soundtrack and there is a song, which goes this way: 'Where have you been my blue-eyed son'. I thought why not do a similar song for the film. It is very abstract, it takes the inner feeling of the film into a soundtrack. So I was telling Zaria, and Rakeysh was saying, Mmm... OK. And Prasoon, of course, said it won't work. We then came up with Lukka Chhupi. I said why don't we have an answer for the mother who calls. And in a way, I was trying to do a duet with Lata Mangeshkar, which I had wanted to do for a long time, because whenever I had approached, it never happened. The plan got cancelled for almost six times, until it finally happened. So, in which scene will this song fit in is the next question, right? When we tried to spot the scenes, it fitted exactly with Waheedaji and the death. But then the reverberation of the song is within the film and outside the film also. So, I feel doing a song is taking me from the cliché' of situation which films have. And working outside it and then fitting it in. So all these things fitted in. Rajeev Masand: You have just signed up as world ambassador for World Space. This is not the first time that you have endorsed a brand. How long does it take or how do you decide as to what is it that you want to get attached to and don't ? A R Rahman: I probably was the first one to get the radio of World Space. I just wanted to check it out first. I was really impressed with the variety and the manner World Space had put up their advertisements. I did not know that here was a policy of not having any hassle in it, which is brilliant.
