Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 Chevelle
I use Goodmark metal on all my personal and customer vehicles if I can't use NOS. My only qualm that I have is I put a full quarter on my 71 and a customers 70 (both in that cars case) and they are ever so slightly different on the very edge going down the top. It doesn't matter that much if you are replacing both sides, the 66-67 quarters are second to none, they were spot on. I have used a few of their Mopar parts and it was great stuff. Anyway hope this helps. [Chevelle-list] 66 Chevelle Bucket Seats for sale
I have had these stored for 10 years. I was told they were 66 Chevelle SS seats, might fit 66 GTO & others. I read the 66 was one year only. They have the metal backs, they need foam & covers, the springs are like new, slides work. I may put them on Ebay someday, but I will not ship them. They have to be picked up in Dallas, TX. $225.00 firm . Pics, here: http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4264468&a=32568641&f=

Re: RE: [Chevelle-list] 66 chevelle
The trunk pan drops off on the right and left sides behind the rear wheels and the bottom edge of the drop off panel is welded to the rear quarter panel. On my 70 Nova, water leaking from the back window sat in this little trough and rusted thru the drop off panel, the rear quarter and the inner and outter wheelhouse. The only way I got to it was to cut out the lower portion of the rear quarter panel between the rear wheel and bumper. I replaced it along with the making patches for the wheelhouses then I installed a rear quarter patch panel. My first experience at doing this and turned out pretty good but took me A LONG TIME due to inexperience. Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 chevelle headers
For a quality pair of headers like Lemons or others, you can easily spend $900 and more. So,$350 isn't too bad. However, there's no way I would ever use painted headers again. For the coated Super Comps, you're probably looking at $500 or more,,,right? If that's the case, why not consider some stainless headers from Stainless Works? They will build whatever you want for around $600. RE: [Chevelle-list] '66 Chevelle quarter window
Krister, I assume that you are talking about the channel side where the glass sits, where the chrome meets the glass? Mine is a convertible, so it may be different, but both the rr and lr are "rounded" at the top inside as well as outside. There is no lip on the outside, the entire length of the channel is smooth against the glass. Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 Chevelle Cam Swap
Just something to keep in mind... If the engine block is a 1965 or 1966 casting, be sure that you have the appropriate groove machined in the rear cam journal. Most cam manufacturers offer this service, but a decent machine shop should be able to machine the groove as well. Here is an excerpt from Federal Mogul's website: "Finally, it is important to note that 1965 and 1966 engines require that a 3/16" groove be machined into the center of the rear cam journal for proper lubrication. Absence of this groove will result in engine failure. Use the 1404M cam bearing set if using a grooved journal cam in a later model block." RE: [Chevelle-list] 66 Chevelle Cam Swap
They just did a cam swap on a 66 small block on HPTV. The only clearance problem was the rear of the bumper. If you find that the case, you can do what they did and jack the engine up a couple of inches or drop the front bumper. Try as you may, that cam just won't bend at that last journal. :*) Dale McIntosh TC Gold #92/ACES #1709/NECOA #41 67SS/67 Elky DalesPlace My 67 SS and 67 El Camino ChevelleStuff Decoding info on 64-72 Chevelles Team67 1967 Chevelle/El Camino Specific MidwestChevelles Midwest Chevelle Show Information I've stopped 1,505 spam messages. Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 Chevelle Cam Swap
Rob, It is a piece of cake to swap the cam in this situation with out removing the motor. Remove distributor, intake, push rods, and lifters. Pull harmonic balancer, timing cover, and timing chain and gears. I always bolt the cam gear back on to help get the cam out with out scratching the cam bearings. Re: [Chevelle-List] '66 Chevelle remote mirror confirmation / additionalquestion
Thanks to all those who responded - some questions create some good dialog! Larry, or anyone else, my '66 SS was built the 3rd week May 1966. I have searched the restoration supplier catalogs and like you said have found only 1967 drivers remote mirror as a reproduction - nothing listed for '66. Would a '67 drivers remote be of the same style as to what was put on SS built in May of '66? Kurt, thanks for the lead, I went through my '66 Factory Assembly Manual and stuck in the back was the Z19 option specs - and sure enough I located the screw holes, clips and wire leads tucked away for the Hood and Trunk lights, but the light assemblies have long been removed. Krister "Kurt and Rocky: yikesss out of that somehow i got that it was for the passenger door!!! well anyway what i meant was yes they made a remote for 66 CHEVELLES. the early remotes were the same as 64 and 65 CHEVELLES and the later 67 built cars were a 67 (it maybe for 68 too) only mirror. they make the later one in reproduction. i have never seen a passenger remote or a matching non remote for any chevelle. I went back and re-read Kirster's message again, and I still think the original question was about the existence of a drivers side remote for 66. The passenger side mirror was never mentioned. IIRC the question was asked because a remote knob was connected to the drivers door interior panel, but the non remote mirror was on the drivers door. I do agree with (Z) though, I have never seen a *passenger* side remote for a 66. Yes they do exist! I have a friend who has a totaly documented 66SS that he purchased from the original owner, he has every piece of paper work from the time the car was ordered new, to it's first oil change, builds sheets, pop, you get the picture. It is part of the option code Z19 comfort and convenience package, when you do find one for sale, the correct one, not the ones for the full size chevy, and the people who have them for sale know what thay are worth, you will pay upwards of $700.00 for a nos piece, or an original in perfect condition, but yes remote mirrors came on Chevelles. Also included in the Z19 option were door edge guards, under hood lamp, and luggage compartment (trunk) lamp. The remote mirrors are very hard to find and fetch a top price. The frame under my 64 Rag is a 66 BuickGS conv frame that I cut to fit. buick used screw in A arm bushings But for the most part will work with work. - Original Message - From: "Ted Scott" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, September 22, 2002 8:02 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question > > Larry > Sounds like you're in the southern climates if they only want 500 for a > convertible and 100 for an elky. Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question
No Larry the rear tail is taperes and unique where it qwelded to the rear cross brace. The frame rail has an inside box that ends on the inside about 1/2 way between the last side body mount and the rear tail mount. The Manual deplict 148.62 Wagons/pickups and 145.35 sedans, coups & conv. This is from the front frame D point. So you have to remove 3.27 in or 3 17/64 " So frist do a cut straight accross both inside and outside frame rails 3 17/64 toward the front, measured from the end of the inside tail sections channel. remove the inside channel from the tail rails. measure 3 17/64 on the outside rail towards the front. wizz off the channel welds an top meterial of the outside C rail. and then cut the vertial remove this peice and dress the area for welding. With the info given in the manual it's easy with a level site to make spacers to position the frame verticial from the datum line and with pipes in the body locating/positioning. holes, X measure to the newly instaled rear section for squareness B-4 you weld. Larry Sounds like you're in the southern climates if they only want 500 for a convertible and 100 for an elky. Lucky man. We have to get them brought up to Canada and then they cost an arm and a leg. Its for this reason that I'm shortening an elky frame to put under my 64 convertible. Its a Beaumont sport deluxe ( canadian only model ) so is quite rare and thus worth all the bother. Larry, The Exact Frame measurment are in the shop manual. It shows the frame and the body mount and frame demension from a datum line. I have cut and welded two frames . Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question
Larry, thanks for all the numbers. For the most part numbers by Paul Herd matches the GM parts catalog I have but not 100%. You'll note a discrepancy between Paul Herd and Hollander regarding 66 and 67 convertibles. I believe Hollander is correct. I've spent the last 2 years trying to find just the right frame to put under my 64 convertible. Crawled under a lot of cars and checked frame part numbers versus the GM book. So far it is bang on. As I said originally the dimensions and mounting points are all the same from 64 thru 67. The differences are the lack of a slight indent in 64 and the different spring pocket in 67. Convertibles and el caminos are boxed thru the center section and coupes and station wagons are C shaped. While the differences exist they do not preclude using any year frame under any year body. Just change the springs if using a 67 under a 64 thru 66. By the way, the part number is stamped in the left outside of the frame ahead of the rear bumper bracket attaching slots. You'll also find the manufacturer and date. The difference in length of the coupe/convertible versus the station wagon/el camino is 3.17 inches. Ted You can find the dimensions in any shop manual or factory assembly manual. The 3.xx inches I referred to last night is expressed as 3.17 inches in some diagrams and 3 3/16" in others >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question >Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 03:17:01 EDT > > >According to my info: >Chevrolet parts by the number by Paul Herd >1964-65 chevelle except el camino or convertible #3837537 or 9773003 >usage: 1964-65 chevelle, except convertible, pickup or station wagon >1964-65 convertible #3837597 >usage: 1964-65 chevelle convertible >1966-67 all but el camino or convertible #3837527 >usage: 1966-67 chevelle, except convertible, station wagon, or pickup >1966-67 convertible #389 >usage:1966-67 chevelle convertible >1966 el camino #3895 >usage:1966 El Camino or chevelle station wagon >1967 el camino #3893329 >usage: 1967 elcamino or chevelle station wagon >1968-70 (this book only goes to 70 but it will work to 72) #6263666 >usage: 1968-72 chevelle hardtop, coupe, or convertible except Monte Carlo; >1968-72 buick skylark hardtop, coupe, or convertible except 400 or 455 CI, >1968-72 olds cutlass coupe, hardtop, or convertible: 1968-72 Pontiac >tempest/lemans coupe, hardtop or convertible except 455 CI >notes: sedan has a longer frame and will not interchange >1968-72 el camino #6263665 >usage 1968-72 el camino or chevelle station wagon >CHEVELLES ADP Hollander >64-65-66 2dr:sdn.,h.t.,4dr sdn & h.t (66) / interchange #1210A >64-66 s.w 1209B >64-66 el camino (pickup) / interchange #1209B >67 sdn & h.t. / interchange #1313 >67 conv. / interchange #1314 >67 s.w. & el camino / interchange #1458 >68-72 : el camino & s.w. / interchange #1941 >68-72 2 dr exc. el camino / interchange #1943 >68-71 4 dr. sdn & h.t. / interchange #1956 >72 4 dr. sdn. & h.t. / interchange #1942 >note B fits A using GM part #3838043 trans. support assembly (cross member) >as you can see there are many differences between the two books. this was >the >first i heard about 64 being different than 65.i have done many chevelle >swaps over the years and take many things for granted. it seems many of the >ones they show not working will work will very little modifications it >really >wouldn't be very funny to have one all powder coated and ready to drop a >body >on it and find out it isn't the right one. back to the original question. >if >you cut close to 4 inches off that el camino frame it will work on the >chevelle. > Larry (z) > _ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question
64 frames are stand alone, 65 & 66 are the same and 67 are stand alone from a purity point. But all share the same measurements. They can all be made to interchange. Read on. In 65 with the addition of big blocks GM had to add a small indent into the front cross member to facilitate changing the starter without having to raise the motor. The 67 with a "progressive ( tapered ) " rear spring has a different top socket than the other years. Also convertibles and el caminos are boxed in the center section. Coupes and station wagons have a "C" shaped center section. Station wagon and El caminos are 3.xx inches longer than the coupes and convertibles. The good news is that the extra 3.xx inches is at the rear between the outside mount behind the rear axle and back cross member. So yes an el camino can be used under a coupe with only a small revision. It will be heavier but stronger. And this isn't a bad idea with some of the extra muscle some guys add. If you use a 67 under a 64 thru 66 then you must also use 67 rear springs. The convertible hutilizes more mounting points but these points are on all frames. Sorry for the long winded answer but before you rush out and buy something research it thoroughly. Research is cheaper than parts that don't fit. >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question Date: Fri, 20 >Sep 2002 11:37:42 EDT > >Chad: >not completely the case. yes the el camino frame will work but you need to >cut 4 inches out of the back section. also the station wagon is the same >length. the convertible frame is the same length as the hardtop. the nice >thing about either the el camino, station wagon or convertible is that the >frame is boxed. 64-65 are the same, 66-67 are the same and 68-72 are the >same. Good move on getting another frame, I am going through this with my 69, it's a nightmare car. Nothing is lining up the way it should b/c the frame is bent worse than I thought it was. Also be prepared for the body structure to be screwed up in some places when you go to put it back together. Tom

[Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question
I discovered during the dismantling process that my 66 SS took a real hard shot on the passenger side. As a result of this the frame was pushed back about 3/4 of an inch and has about a 2 1/2 inch crack in the frame at the fire wall. I have decided that since I am intending to restore this car, I would just get a new frame and start over. I had an opportunity to pick up a frame from a 66 El Camino for free. Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 chevelle
Lets put it this way I have 4 66s, and none of them are perfect and they are all going to be the death of me. the first one a true SS I saved since I was 6 to buy (I am 20 now bought the car when I was 16), paid $6500 for it now have over $13000 because of a bunch of punk kids who thought it was funny to throw paint at me. The second I bought right before my first one got crashed, I paid $500 for it and it is a 4 door 194 six and a Poweglide, drove it home with hardly any brakes. The third I saved from being turned into a race car and has no motor, trans, driveline, trashed interior, but on a bright note I found enough tools and parts in it to make up the difference. The fourth and final is a true SS with no motor or tranny but about 5 or 6 cars worth of chrome and such and my only reason for getting it is cause it had the original steering wheel and radio, I traided my 69 stepside that I had $800 in so I think I came out pretty fair. As fo! r the one that you describe it would be a good project worth a couple grand depending on what you want.
