Bug#351311: ftp.debian.org: mysql-dfsg-5.0 no longer produces mysql*4.1 - blocked from testing now
Hello Jeroen On 2006-02-10 Jeroen van Wolffelaar wrote: On 2006-02-10 Jeroen van Wolffelaar wrote: The mysql-dfsg-5.0 source packages used to produce mysql-server-4.1 mysql-client-4.1 for a short while but removed those packages from the control file. britney(?) now thinks that it accidently failed to build those and blocks mysql-dfsg-5.0 from entering testing. That's because those packages still are built by mysql-dfsg-4.1 and mysql-dfsg. Please either: - stop building those packages from there, Would uploading a new version of the mysql-dfsg-4.1 source package with a 4.1.x version i.e. a lower one as that of the zombie packages be enough? This would easily possible as the package will be removed soon anyway. Yeah, as long as you stop building it. I'd suggest stopping to build anything except the library. Ok, will do that. - request us to remove those source packages (you can retitle and reassign this bug), or I still have 26 open bugs asking other packages no longer to link against libmysqlclient12 which is produced by the source package mysql-dfsg-4.1, too. If people had ample time to migrate and there's no important packages left, this doesn't need to hold up removal. It's a manageable number of packages to NMU. Please consult with the release team if you have any suspicion that such forced migration would cause any problems. I don't see any really important or big packages listed that haven't migrated yet. NMUs means more work for me *g* But I will do so next week when I've a bit of time. - bump the version numbers of those 4.0 and 4.1 packages so that they would supersede the versions built by mysql-dfsg-5.0 I don't like to upload a mysql-server-4.1 (5.0.x) package as this would confuse the users of testing/unstable. Can it be avoided? Yeah, you'd need to epoch it to not have a weird version number. Right, forgot about epochs. But I take the first solution to avoid ugly epochs. thanks, -christian- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The lastest version is : 1.3.4 And I think it is not replaced by bittornado since ctorrent is console based and written in C... and useful ! :) Let me know your decisions, thanks ! Bug#325226: libc6: Wrong dynamic linker on amd64
On 06-Feb-10 13:06, Aurelien Jarno wrote: Currently, the /lib64 directory symlink is used _only_ to provide the correct linker path. Nothing else in the distribution references the /lib64 directory, i.e. everything is (or at least should be) installed in /lib and nothing depends on the /lib64 symlink with the single exception of the linker path. That let me ask about having /lib64 as the real directory, and /lib as a symlink. At least it would make the /lib64 directory compliant with the FHS. Do you know what kind of problem that could cause, other than a complex upgrade? This question has a technical and a political answer. From the technical point of view it should be possible to make /lib64 a real directory and /lib a symlink to /lib64. But this would not get us any closer to the current FHS because with /lib being a symlink to /lib64 we still could not put 32-bit libraries in /lib as the current FHS requires. A full FHS conforming setup where 64-bit libraries are in /lib64 and 32-bit libraries in /lib would be _very_ difficult to achieve. The Debian amd64 porting team tried this at the beginning, but it turned out that this would involve many (ugly) changes to quite a lot of packages. So this is almost certainly not an option for Debian. Moreover, I think that the FHS is at fault here. It is simply _wrong_ to change the established standard filesystem layout which places native libraries in (/usr)/lib and put them in some other directory like /lib64 instead. The FHS should be changed to allow the amd64 port to use the standard directories (/usr)/lib for its native libraries. I filed a corresponding request to the FHS mailing list a while ago but I did not get any answer yet. It would probably help if people who are more important than me would support this request. Currently, Redhat and Suse install the native amd64 libraries in /lib64 while Debian, Ubuntu and Gentoo install them in /lib where they belong. I do not see any reason why the FHS should prohibit the saner approach used by Debian, Ubuntu and Gentoo. Bug#352213: rhythmbox: genre information has odd prefixes
Package: rhythmbox Version: 0.9.3.1-1 Severity: normal Since upgrading rhythmbox recently some of my files are now listed with strange genres. For example I have some which have the genre (8). So in the genre listing, I see (8) (6), ie 6 tracks with the genre (8). Then I have (8)Jazz (87) (87 tracks), (13) (12), (13)Pop (48), (24) (3) etc. It looks like the affected files are all MP3s. Most of my collection is OGG and those are grouped ok. Could this be a bug in GTK? Hi, Thank your for your bug. I hope you meant report :) Do you have a small code example of the issue? I'm sorry. I cannot reproduce it anymore (made some strace-logs a few minutes ago) and I deleted my old strace-logs. But there is still an inconsistency between gtk_file_chooser_dialog_new() and gtk_file_chooser_dialog_new_with_backend() left (IMHO). I use gtk_file_chooser_dialog_new_with_backend( ..., gnome-vfs, ...) and my default theme in XFCE4 is the hicolor theme. The resulting dialog does not have icons (try the open-dialog in bluefish, running it not in GNOME). Using gtk_file_chooser_dialog_new() the dialog has icons. But in the strace-logs I don't see any difference in the theme usage. If you think, this left issue is not a GTK bug, please close my report, because I cannot reproduce the theme path issue (I thought, this caused the missing-icons issue) any longer. Regards, Daniel (please keep [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc:ed so the BTS get the mails too and other people can work on the bug) Do you have a screenshot of the difference you have between the 2 modes? What theme do you use? Cheers, Sebastien Bacher

Bug#352220: firefox: Multiple printing problems
Package: firefox Version: 1.5.dfsg-4 Severity: normal There are several problems with printing in Firefox: 1. There is no way to make the default printer stick between sessions. 2. Each printer is listed twice. Once with @:64 after the name, and once as CUPS/name. It's completely undocumented in the help system what the difference between these is. There are also xp_ps_spooldir and xp_pdf_spooldir, which also are completely undocumented. 3. None of the CUPS printers work; when I try to print, I get a Printer Error box that says There was a problem printing because the paper size you specified is not supported by your printer. 4. The Page Setup box takes margins only in millimeters. It should also be able to accept margins in inches. 5. The na-letter paper size in the Printer Properties box is confusingly located in the middle of a bunch of ISO options, and is difficult to find there. 6. It's unclear what the Gap from edge of paper to Margin in Printer Properties means, or how it relates to the margins in Page Setup, or even what units it is given in. I see 0.4 on my screen. 0.4 what? Inches? Centimeters? Millimeters? 7. Under Colorspace, I see TrueColor/24bit listed four times, with no apparent difference between them. It's also unclear what the difference between GrayScale and StaticGray is. 8. The Resolution/Quality box maxes out at 600DPI. Quite a few printers are capable of more than that these days. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.13.3 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages firefox depends on: ii debianutils 2.15.2 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii fontconfig2.3.2-1.1 generic font configuration library ii libatk1.0-0 1.10.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.3.5-12.1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo2 1.0.2-3The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig12.3.2-1.1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.1.10-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.0.2-8 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.8.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.10-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libidl0 0.8.5-1library for parsing CORBA IDL file ii libjpeg62 6b-11 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpango1.0-0 1.10.2-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-01.2.8rel-5 PNG library - runtime ii libstdc++64.0.2-8The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System protocol client li ii libxcursor1 1.1.3-1X cursor management library ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxft2 2.1.8.2-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxi66.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Input extension li ii libxinerama1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System multi-head display ii libxp66.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System printing extension ii libxrandr26.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt66.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Toolkit Intrinsics ii psmisc22.1-1 Utilities that use the proc filesy ii zlib1g1:1.2.3-9 compression library - runtime firefox recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Makefiles written in this way are broken -- at least with respect to common build system practices. There are packages on the other hand that do it correctly, namely set CFLAGS in the makefiles expecting them to be overridden if desired on the command line, and if we made the change that is proposed in this bug we would break those packages. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#340375: Subject: kuser destroys all passwords if /etc/shadow isn't present
severity 340375 important stop Since this bug is largely fixed in Sid, but not so totally resolved that I'd want to attach a fixed tag, I think the best course of action is to lower the bug to important, but keep it open. In any case, the bug isn't a regression with respect to what's in Etch at the moment. Cheers, Christopher Martin On Saturday 17 December 2005 14:57, Christopher Martin wrote: On Tuesday 22 November 2005 20:23, Charles G Montgomery wrote: Subject: kuser destroys all passwords if /etc/shadow isn't present Package: kuser Version: 4:3.4.2-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hello, I forwarded the issue upstream, and a check was added for the /etc/shadow file in the KDE 3.5 branch. The kdeadmin upload that should clear NEW and be in experimental shortly contains this fix. However, as you noted yourself, this doesn't completely resolve the issue, since /etc/shadow could be present but shadow passwords still not in use. Upstream seems to be under the astonishing impression that the ability to disable the use of shadow passwords by clearing /etc/shadow from the shadow file text field in Configure KUser is intuitive and clear to users. Even the check for /etc/shadow was added reluctantly, and upstream has stated that he has no intention of adding further checks. So what to do? Having /etc/shadow but not using shadow passwords is probably a pretty rare configuration. We could add a README.Debian to warn users of this quirk, but there is no guarantee that people would read it. Any ideas, comments, suggestions from the team? Should the bug remain RC once 3.5 enters unstable? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#352225: adduser: severe problem in existing_user_ok()
Package: adduser Version: 3.82 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Severity is set to grave because it breaks one of the two core functionalities of adduser, and one that is used by most postinst scripts that use adduser, to boot. Adduser is failing to correctly deal with a pre-existing system user when asked to update it (with no modifications, even!). This is caused by a bug in existing_user_ok. How to reproduce: Excerpt of /etc/adduser.conf: # FIRST_SYSTEM_UID to LAST_SYSTEM_UID inclusive is the range for UIDs # for dynamically allocated administrative and system accounts. FIRST_SYSTEM_UID=100 LAST_SYSTEM_UID=999 # FIRST_UID to LAST_UID inclusive is the range of UIDs of dynamically # allocated user accounts. FIRST_UID=1000 LAST_UID=2 # The USERGROUPS variable can be either yes or no. If yes each # created user will be given their own group to use as a default, and # their home directories will be g+s. If no, each created user will # be placed in the group whose gid is USERS_GID (see below). USERGROUPS=yes Description of the bug: # getent passwd hplip hplip:x:125:7:HPLIP system user,,,:/var/run/hplip:/bin/false # getent group lp lp:x:7:lp # adduser --system --ingroup lp --home /var/run/hplip --gecos 'HPLIP system user' --shell /bin/false --disabled-password hplip ; echo $? adduser: Warning: The home dir you specified already exists. The user `hplip' already exists with a different uid. Aborting 1 The bug is in routine existing_user_ok. It must not return 2 if $new_uid is undefined. In that case, only 0 and 1 are valid results. I miss a third return value, 3 for users which exist but are not in the system range (which is a valid result independent of $new_uid being defined or not). It is useful to generate a printf (gtx(The user `%s' already exists as a non-system user. Package: bash Version: 3.1-2 Severity: normal I just upgraded to this version of bash (I'm sorry I don't know what I was running before - whatever was in testing a couple of months ago) and now my PS1 is broken. My PS1 looks like this: PS1='$(r=$?; [ 0 == $r ] || echo \[\033[33m\]$r\[\033[0m\] )[EMAIL PROTECTED]:\w\[\033[32m\]\$\[\033[0m\] ' Which looks like this, without the color: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ^ The caret indicates where the cursor lies. Now, after upgrading, the prompt looks the same but the caret has moved [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ^ or 1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ^ If I remove the escape sequences (which give a little color), it behaves normally. If I leave the escape sequences but remove the \[\] pairs, the cursor goes in the right place (but wouldn't that break line wrapping?). Bug#279000: Python curses bindings and UTF-8
* Thomas Dickey [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-02-10 06:37]: Right, python Modules/_cursesmodule.c has no explicit support for ncursesw functions. as noted on the newsgroup discussion this week, python doesn't need explicit support for ncursesw functions, but does need a change to its setup.py to make it load ncursesw if it's available. Aside from adding an interface for get_wch(), I don't think the other ncursesw-specific functions are that useful to python. Bug#325226: libc6: Wrong dynamic linker on amd64
Andreas Jochens a écrit : On 06-Feb-10 13:06, Aurelien Jarno wrote: That let me ask about having /lib64 as the real directory, and /lib as a symlink. Ok, I better see the problem now. Using this reasoning it will even be good to have a (/usr)/lib32 defined in the FHS, with (/usr)/lib32 being a link to (/usr)/lib on plain i386 systems. This is why I am trying to do with the patch for the i386 libc on amd64. The FHS should be changed to allow the amd64 port to use the standard directories (/usr)/lib for its native libraries. I filed a corresponding request to the FHS mailing list a while ago but I did not get any answer yet. It would probably help if people who are more important than me would support this request. Note that some of the misp people have tri-arch patch pending, where (/usr)/lib, (/usr)/lib32 and (/usr)/lib64 are containing different ABI (two of them beeing a 32-bit ABI). So they really need (/usr)/lib32. You may try to contact them, so they could do the same demand. There is some posts about that on debian-mips in November 2005 I could also try to send a mail if you want, it will probably be ignored, but who knows. Currently, Redhat and Suse install the native amd64 libraries in /lib64 while Debian, Ubuntu and Gentoo install them in /lib where they belong. Well if I am right, Redhat and Suse does not have a full 64-bit system, but a 32-bit system with a few 64-bit libraries. At least it was the case for Suse last time I have checked. It looks like the FHS is done for them. They could probably be compared with Debian i386, which also supports 64-bit libraries in the way recommended by the FHS. I do not see any reason why the FHS should prohibit the saner approach used by Debian, Ubuntu and Gentoo. Given what if I have said in the previous paragraph, it looks like there are two different problems (64-bit system with a few 32-bit libraries and a 32-bit system with a few 64-bit libraries), and the FHS only give a recommendation for one of them. If Josh's solver would be buggy, one would expect gnudoku to fail to find a solution to the initial puzzle plus 1 number conflicting with gnudoku's initial solution. I'm bumping this to serious until somebody's input suggests that this bug is unreproducible or...specific to my house? :) -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-386 Locale: LANG=fr_CA, LC_CTYPE=fr_CA (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages gnudoku depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.10.3-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.3.5-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo21.0.2-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-1.1 generic font configuration library ii libgcc1 1:4.0.2-5 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.8.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.8.2-2 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.9-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a1:2.6.5-1 C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.4 (shared ii libpango1.0-01.10.2-1Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.16-2type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libstdc++6 4.0.2-5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System protocol client li ii libxcursor1 1.1.3-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System Input extension li ii libxinerama1 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System multi-head display ii libxrandr2 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1 X Rendering Extension client libra gnudoku recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-386 Locale: LANG=fr_CA, LC_CTYPE=fr_CA (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages gnudoku depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.10.3-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.3.5-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo21.0.2-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-1.1 generic font configuration library ii libgcc1 1:4.0.2-5 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.8.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.8.2-2 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.10-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a1:2.6.5-1 C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.4 (shared ii libpango1.0-01.10.2-1Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.16-2type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libstdc++6 4.0.2-5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System protocol client li ii libxcursor1 1.1.3-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System Input extension li ii libxinerama1 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System multi-head display ii libxrandr2 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1 X Rendering Extension client libra gnudoku recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#352108: reboot from kde and kdm splashy not displayed, slow reboot
The problem could be that KDM holds the console/framebuffer until it has died/killed by init. Which would not allow splashy's libdirectfb to use the framebuffer. Another problem might be at your /etc/rc6.d/K* scripts level. Make sure that /etc/rc6.d/S01splashy-init and /etc/rc6.d/K01splashy-init exist. Bug#352165: Debian-specific 'en/' fix breaks AbiWord
It appears that the AbiWord upstream autotooled link-grammar without regard for whether the commandline parser works, and I fixed it without any to test whether AbiWord works. The problem is that the commandline parser loads the dictionaries as 4.0.dict, 4.0.affix, 4.0.knowledge, and 4.0.constituent-knowledge, whereas AbiWord loads the dictionaries as en/4.0.dict, en/4.0.affix, en/4.0.knowledge, and en/4.0.constituent-knowledge. I have rolled back my previous debian-specific patches, and added a new one that changes the commandline parser referws to dictionary files so that it's the same way that AbiWord does. Please test the packages which are now at http://lingcog.iit.edu/~bloom/link-grammar and tell me whether they work for you now. (After this works, I'll figure out how to create a setup that either has a default dictionary managed by the alternatives system, or uses $LANG to determine the default dictionary, or both.) --Ken Bloom -- I usually have a GPG digital signature included as an attachment. Bug#352219: gri: Please rebuild with current netcdf.
Daniel Kobras [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: gri Version: 2.12.10-5 Severity: grave Justification: package uninstallable The netcdf3g package has been renamed and split into C and C++ parts, but the i386 package of gri still depends on the removed netcdf3g and therefore cannot be installed at the moment. A simple rebuild should be sufficient to fix the problem. Thanks. I wish source-only uploads were possible. I'll fix it this evening from home. An automated binary-only rebuild of gri failed because the upstream tarball ships debian/changelog with write permission bits unset[0]. Yeah, that's a bit annoying. I'll fix that. I had not realised that this was needed for binary-only rebuilds. Please chmod u+w debian/changelog in the clean target to allow for future binNMUs. I'll do that for now, but better to fix the source tar ball in the long run. Regards, Daniel. Bug#352115: marked as done (www.debian.org: no feedback path given)
Don Armstrong [EMAIL PROTECTED] There's no need to tell anyone about the problem; if you find a problem in a page, visit wiki.debian.org, follow the instructions under How to Edit this Wiki and correct whatever the problems are. I disagree with this closure. The bug remains unfixed. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: However one cannot see any webmaster etc. problem email address on the page. Nor is there any Discuss This Page choice. Bug#325226: libc6: Wrong dynamic linker on amd64
On Fri, Feb 10, 2006 at 04:06:25PM +0100, Aurelien Jarno wrote: [snip] The FHS should be changed to allow the amd64 port to use the standard directories (/usr)/lib for its native libraries. The three mips ABIs are o32 (fully 32bit), n32 (32bit address space, 64bit register width) and n64 (fully 64bit). n32 traditionally uses (/usr)/lib32. The general problem with this approach is that it doesn't scale beyond 2-3 ABIs, and requires a native ABI definition. The multi-arch approach tries to do better (but needs more work before it can provide a viable alternative). Thiemo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Raul Miller writes (Re: #342455): I agree that the devmapper default should match other debian defaults, and vice-versa. If I may try to channel Bastian Blank for a moment: The proposed change to devmapper changes the permissions for all block devices, doesn't it ? Whereas the other debian defaults vary from one kind of device to another. For example, floppies are g+w floppy. For changing the `default' by changing the permissions at device creation time at the very least introduces a race, where the device briefly has the default permissions; if the defaults are maximally restrictive then this is OK. But unless you think that group disk is supposed to be maximally powerful then this means that the device will (probably momentarily) have overly-weak permissions. Bug#351043: gnudoku
Please excuse me if this message doesn't come through properly, I have no idea how the debian bug tracker is meant to work, and no instructions were prominent. The generation of ambiguous puzzles is a known bug. None of the authors has the time to do anything about it at this time. However, I would argue that the poster overestimates the seriousness of it. 1. Nowhere I can find is there some official definition of Su Doku that states puzzles must be unambiguous, although I acknowlege that it is conventional. 2. gnudoku also serves to load puzzles obtained elsewhere, as well as solving puzzles the user inputs. The presence of ksudoku and gnome-sudoku in testing also makes the transition of gnudoku to testing quite useless I don't know how debian operates, but I didn't realise that an application had to satisfy a criterion of usefulness compared to existing alternatives to be allowed into the distribution. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#351617: Time to change although painful
Dear Loïc Minier, After reading some materials about id3 info in mp3 format files, I have to admit that gstreamer development group has done a right decision. According to the standards of id3, id3v1.x should only use iso-8859-1, id3v2.2 use iso-8859-1 too, id3v2.3 use iso-8859-1 and utf-16, and id3v2.4 use only utf-8. The traditional way we're using, forcing id3 be encoded in locale dependent format, is too rough. Moreover, this method also results in many other problems. Well, I think it's time to change to obey the standands, although the convertion process is painful little a bit :( Sorry for this annoying bug report. Thank you very much. BTW: how can I convert all mp3 files' id3 info into UTF-16 for 2.3 or UTF-8 for 2.4 bukly? I have tried easytag, but it fails to complete this task. In fact, after converting into UTF-16 or UTF-8, some characters are lose :( -- Hongzheng Wang
Bug#352106: escputil: escp2-c42sx CUPS/cupsys-bsd: align-head doesn't work
I have an Epson Stylus C42SX and I'm using CUPS and cupsys-bsd. I get the following output when trying to align heads using the -P option (All output was manually translated from brazilian portuguese to english by myself): # escputil -a -P C42SX -m escp2-c42sx Wasn't able to open (null) read/write: Invalid Adress The (null) bit is a bug. However, you do need to use "-r" here, because the alignment process requires full read-write access to the device, and so can't go via a print queue ("-P"). It would be a nice addition if the program warned you about the need for "-r" after using "-a" with "-P". Or, at last, a mention in the "--help" output: -a|--align-head Align the print head. This command needs to be evoked together with the "-r" option. CAUTION: Misuse of this utility may result in poor print quality and/or damage to the printer. Or even both, which would be better. This is the same output I get when I run escputil through the right-click menu in the printing module of KControl. When I use the -r option, I do not receive any error message, but when I get to the prompt 1st Passage) nothing has been printed, and repeating the operation ('r') produces no effect. Again no error appears, neither in the default nor in the error output. Do you know what options escputil was run with from this menu? The ps command should be able to show you. I don't this one was expected to work, but I think I should add it anyway: # escputil -a -r parallel:/dev/lp0 -m escp2-c42sx Wasn't able to open parallel:/dev/lp0 read/write: Invalid Adress Try "-r /dev/lp0", i.e. escputil -a -r /dev/lp0 -m escp2-c42sx Does this work? Just a note, for clarification: the output I get from KControl is "Wasn't able to open (null) read/write: Invalid Adress" as above, not the "1st Passage)" passage one here. The second one I get when I run escputil -a -r /dev/lp0 -m escp2-c42sx as you've asked me now to. This is the command that took me to the "1st Passage)" prompt up there (and did nothing). Forgive me about this confusion - my mistake of not being more clear. Does it make sense now? Anyway, I've tried using ps lhen using KControl, but found nothing. I think we can assume it issues the command escputil -a -P C42SX -m escp2-c42sx because it gets us to the same bug as above - (null). If you were willing to send me more information about how to use ps to find this out, I can try again.

Just imagine that 4==3 ;-) /M -- Magnus Therning(OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://therning.org/magnus Software is not manufactured, it is something you write and publish. Bug#342455: #342455
On 2/10/06, Roger Leigh [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I did read this, and I'm happy progress is being made. However, the default is still currently wrong in unstable, and the fix is a simple change to configure in debian/rules. I agree that the devmapper default should match other debian defaults, and vice-versa. And since I don't see any credible reasoning for changing the defaults on other packages (especially for stable), I think you're right that devmapper's default needs to be changed. If need be, we can issue this as a formal opinion. (If I don't hear any reasons why this would be a mistake, in the next few days, I'll make this a formal proposal.) Thanks, -- Raul

Bug#279000: Python curses bindings and UTF-8
Martin Michlmayr wrote: Martin, can you please look into this? Thomas is right: Python sets the locale first to , then back to POSIX. This is intentional: it tries to obtain the CHARSET during startup, but wants to leave locale control to the script. So the test script has a bug: it should explicitly perform setlocale (if ncurses requires that for proper operation). I'll attach the corrected test script. I then manually tried to link _curses.so with ncursesw, and tried running the script, with no success. Investigating further, it turns out that python links with readline, and readline links with ncurses, not ncursesw. For some reason, it is only svn trunk Python which links with readline, not Debian python, so there is hope. Regards, Martin #!/usr/bin/python # -*- coding: utf-8 *- import curses import time import locale locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, ) a = 'Ã' b = 'â¢' c = '人' u_a = unicode(a, utf-8) u_b = unicode(b, utf-8) u_c = unicode(c, utf-8) print a print u_a print b print u_b print c print u_c time.sleep(3) w = curses.initscr() w.addstr('umlaut A: ' + a) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr('bullet: ' + b) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr(Chinese ren: + c) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr('umlaut A: ' + u_a.encode(utf-8)) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr('bullet: ' + u_b.encode(utf-8)) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr(Chinese ren: + u_c.encode(utf-8)) w.addstr(\n) w.addstr(\n) w.refresh() time.sleep(3) curses.endwin()
