Robin, The connector is called "reverse polarity SMA". It is very common - used on nearly all access points that have removable external antennas. Any 2.4GHz antenna with this connector should work. Charles, Theoretically, for most setups max volume should be optimal. If your ears say otherwise, just use whatever sounds best. Regarding buffer usage: the more the better. If you're seeing 99-100% then this is ideal - it means that your wireless connection is consistently able to move data faster than the Squeezebox is consuming it, which is what you want. [slim] mapped drive issues
OK Here's the lowdown. I have searched and searched and things are still flaky after doing lots of fixes mentioned in the archives. I'm getting fed up! I have 3 Squeezeboxen (1 wireless, 2 wired). The server v6.0b3 is running on a 2.6 XP box (upstairs) with 1gig of Ram. My library is 16529 songs I am having problems with my music. I have a folder ...mydocuments/squeezebox. In this folder I have three shortcuts. They are as follows: //linuxbox/dood/mp3 //basement-xp/livemusic Z:\ The 1st refers to a linux box I have in the basement. The permissions are set to allow my XP username zach to access the files. The 2nd refers to an XP box in the basement. Again, permissions in the folders are set correctly. The 3rd refers to a fire wire drive attached to the computer running the slimserver software. I have the slimserver running as *user* zach...who also has permission on the two boxes in the basement. The problems typically occur when trying to browse music folders. I can't access any of the folders. I get the "blah..blah..blah..set your directory" message. I can however play the songs from playlistsI just can't browse the folders. This happens randomly, or at least as best as I can guess. FYI: the playlists are in a separate folder: ...mydocuments/playlists FYI: I don't use itunes playlists or allow the server control over itunes Also, on the occasions when I have to restart the XP box running slimserver (upstairs) I lose all the music and have to shut down the server and then wipe the cache. This is not something I want to do every time I restart the computer. Got any ideas on fixing the situation...I think I've documented everything I can think of. On an unrelated note: is there a way to make the Datetime screensaver display the song name/title info when playing songs and then go back to the time...after 1 scroll through or so? This is svn revision 2777, running on Ubuntu Linux. I'm using IE and Firefox on Windows. [slim] Itunes
I am migrating my itunes and slimserver to an old laptop. I have my Itunes library setup on a network drive E on my desktop computer. Itunes works fine with the Itunes music folder set to E:\itunes. The slimserver shows the itunes playlists, but they are empty. This is with the server finding the itunes library automatically. Yes, you can do this. Instead of selecting 'Primary Sound Driver' you can also select the sound card by name, for example 'Realtek AC97 Audio'. As long as your multiple sound cards have different names (I understand you can rename the devices in WinXP), then you can select a different sound card with each instance of Softsqueeze. You _must_ avoid 'Java Sound Audio Engine' if you want sync to work. Couple of problems that I am trying to solve with AlienBBC 1.) In local radio no stations are displayed. 2.) Can’t play anything mplayer uses 50-99% processor the box displays connecting then counts up seconds to about 8 then drops to zero again Running 0.94 with slim 6.03 Red hat fedora core 2 with NO X Anyone any ideas? And replying to myself, I see that in Slim/Player/Source.pm, there is
the code snippet around line 1429 of:

I removed sox from my system, enabled d_source and sure enough saw
2005-03-27 12:01:31.4366drat, missing binary sox
So this seems like something more fundamental than should be hidden
behind a debug variable. Should the "$::d_source &&" be removed and the
message made more general like
msg("Error: missing binary \"$1\", please see convert.conf\n");
as I can see this easily happening frequently.

[slim] Latest SVN - ogg needs sox
I was having problems with 6.0b3 indexing my ogg files... all of my music is in ogg, all ripped from CDs I own, etc. On some files, it would fail to read the headers, just some fields, or claim the file didn't have a header. At any rate, I decided to give the latest and greatest in the subversion tree a shot to see if the issue was fixed. Sadly, I hit another issue... with any file I'd try to play, it would display "Problem: can't open file for" and the track name and quickly jump to the last song in the list. There was no message in the log, and after some digging, I found that it was looking for sox... an "apt-get install sox" later and things are working again. The indexing bug of before is now fixed... I just wanted to save another ogg user the effort of tracking this issue down. [slim] Searching for bitrates doesn't work in Advanced Search
My music collection is all MP3s with 99.9% at 160kbps CBR. I tried in advanced search to look for all songs that had a bitrate greater than 160 and it returned me the entire library. [slim] Internet Radio Dropouts
I have been having a recurring problem with internet radio streams since about the time I went to 5.1. Every 2 minutes or so, I get a drop in the stream. Watching buffer fullness, it starts at about 70%, then gradually drops down to 0%, where it shuts off for a couple seconds, then starts over again at 70%. This happens with many different streams in different formats and bitrates. (I'm trying to listen to KCRW right now.) This never used to happen, and it is now making the internet radio feature very difficult to use. The streams themselves play fine on my local computer, so the problem isn't with the streams. My local music also plays fine, so my network presumably isn't the problem. Is this a known problem? Is there any setting I can change to improve it? I'm on 5.4.1, SB1, wireless connection about 70% quality, WinXP, no bitrate limiting. [slim] Slimsever stops playing randomly
I'm running XP, SlimServer Version: 6.0b3 - 2609, Softsqueeze 2.0a16 I'm now starting slimserver using "perl -w slimserver.pl" and I'm finding that tracks just stop playing without being told to. Pressing play restarts the track again. I didn't notice this happening when running using slimserver.exe (as I was previously). I've got some CDs that definitely have pregap markers that are picked up by --fast-toc. Despite what 'man cdrdao' says, I believe the difference with --fast-toc is that it simply "trusts" what the disc's actual TOC tells it without going through a verification step. Indeed, without the --fast-toc option, read-toc gets some things wrong. For example, using --fast-toc, ISRC codes are picked up correctly for each track, but without the --fast-toc option, cdrdao gives an ISRC code of all zeroes for each track. I'm more inclined to trust the results of --fast-toc given that it reads the *actual* TOC from the disc. Now this is purely conjecture on my part based on having played around with this on several different discs.
