I believe the wheels with force feedback are capable of doing this. But,
the wheels that do it are expensive I think.
I know very little about the wheels

[Audyssey] steering wheel support for top speed

2006-05-30 Thread Nicol Oosthuizen

NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice
which can be viewed at http://www.sars.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf

It sounds very interesting to me to use a steering wheel in top speed.
I've never in my life feel how a joy stick steering wheel works like. I
asked a sighted person if they used a steering wheel when play ing a
car game. They said you need to get used to a steering wheel, it's
easier than steering using the arrow keys but it's something you need
to get used to. The concept is called anti steering. If you are about
to crash your steering wheel is nearly pulled out of your hand, so
you need to put in extra force to steer it to the other side. It is as
if the steering wheel physically pull itself out of your hand with
force, so you need to put in force as well.

Is it also how a steering wheel works with top speed?

2006-05-30 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
I've found them a lot. In fact, I usually try to get to within 3 or 4
spaces away. Leaving a mine to detonate in 5 moves is usually enough. If
you time it right with a few hurt ships heading back to base you can not
only take out the base but those other ships as well.

Re: [Audyssey] conspiricy theory, the future of the blind gaming industry

2006-05-30 Thread shaun everiss
true.
Opensource will continue without question.
It just scares me that when we eventually get the sighted interested
they could go either of 2 ways.
Either and this is in my opinion extremely rare, but I may be totally
wrong, here not going to happen is actually work along side us.
Its just that the paying type game industry may be over.
Sertainly opensource and freeware will live on.
The only other way is that the blind and sighted could form big
companies some how.
We then could go into bigger and bigger companies including sighted,
and maybe we could hold our own.
I guess all I am saying is don't rush stuff to much.
It also brings out the question how many games do we have actually?
If we exclude the opensource market, agrip and agdev, kitchensinc
since thats free and in fact every freeware game around.
We have several names.
usagames, gma, pcs, and maybe bavisoft.
bavisoft has 2 games.
gmagames have 3 games.
pcs have a few games mostly dos but going to windows
then there is l-works, who have around 4 games and only really 2
actually count as purchacible items.
We also have pb-games and thats another single game.
I don't know how much all this adds up to but its not much.
We also have bsc games.
Now if we cut out all the oldstyle and arcade games that the sighted
wouldn't want anyway this includes all the stuff draconis makes since
its essentually arcade, we have trek2k, sod, gtc, lw and stfc.
I don't know wether to count the bavisoft games as they have 0 replay
value really.
even if I counted those in we actually have very few actual
action/strat games that sighted would actually want.
there is terraformas by pin interactive but even then as I said thats
still small.
I'm not saying stop the music, i don't want to stay behind the river
for the rest of time, just be vary carefull in approaching it.

Re: [Audyssey] lite locater help

2006-05-30 Thread meeping necdet
The best way to find the bomb is to keep moving up floors and to rooms and
you will find it. Make sure automatic radiation announce is on, and if the
radiation gets to 1 or near, you are near to it. If you've found it
it'll say you've found the bomb. Press enter to deactivate it. If you are
playing on expert, it is very, very hard and you have to use the quick
navigation keys to move up, down and along. If you are playing on easy you
can't just go up to every floor. Each floor the radiation level increases
variably, however you know that if the radiation is at 7000 you've got
another 10 or 20 floors to go up or down. Then you got to find the correct
room.
If you like I shall record an audio tutorial on it if you'd like.
Alternatively you can go to the blindcooltech site at
http://www.blindcooltech.com, or look at the lighttechinteractive trailers
and reviews page at http://www.lighttechinteractive.com (reviews and
trailers link), and download a fully-explained review of light locator
recorded by chris skarstad.

Hope that helps.

Hmm, don't know what to say then. You would think the difficulty level for
the holes would determine the rating of the course. Do you want to send me
the information for the courses that generated the rating on its own. I'll
put it into excel and see if it can come up with something. I'll let the

rating.

[Audyssey] Golf difficulty factor

2006-05-30 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Brenda,

I was wrong. It appears that it is actually the lower the difficulty factor
number the harder the hole is. Because as I added up the numbers for the first
three original courses the totals got progressively lower.

BTW they do not average out to be the rating number. I will work on that and
see if I can't figure something out.

Re: [Audyssey] Advanced games

2006-05-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi.
One anser could be is an open source mottle. If a blind developer were
to hook up with some of the open source gamers for Linux etc they could
in theory colaberate on adapting games to work with sighted and blind
gamers.
Take a game such as Kpackman it is a Packman game for Linux for the KDE
desktop. All the graphics is there. What it needs is to be upgraded to
have better sound effects, score announcements, and other features to be
acccessible.
There are asteroid clones for Linux that use mesa for killer graphics,
but aren't accessible. Hook them up with say OpenAL for audio, self
voice the thing, and you have a game which will do both.

Re: [Audyssey] conspiricy theory, the future of the blind gaming industry

2006-05-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Shaun.
I don't honestly think we have seen the end of blind games. Your
opinion, which I am sure is shared by others, is the pecimistic view
long term. The aspect you seam to miss however is as long is there are
blind programmers who know how to write computer programs, have a desire
to write games, accessible games will continue. The agdev-newbies
comunity is a forem where I am attempting to pass on my skills, knolege,
so that a new generation of blind programmers can be made.
What's more at some point if blind programmers were to use the GPL
mottle and make engines open source then anyone with a nack for
programming can maintain and update games. This doesn't work for games
under the commercial license, but were a game to be made open source it
would have a long life time ahead of it.
I've actually conceptually thought about some ideas for making open
source games. Especially, ones that were multiplatform for Mac, Linux,
and PC. Once I get my Linux reinstalled and all upgraded to current I
might actually look at that possability.

Hi.
That is basically true. There is certainly an amount of advanced games
that can be made out of the work at home shops, but at some point the
developer has to collect his or her SSI check or get a real job to put
food on the table. The game company is just a side hobby.

[Audyssey] conspiricy theory, the future of the blind gaming industry

2006-05-30 Thread shaun everiss
Hi criss.
Thats not going to happen until we join with sighted people to make
games at which point the sighted companies will just buy us out
because we are not worth much even to those that pirate our stuff and
all our games will just be another sighted gaming thing.
Call me biest but I think our days to make major games if at all are
numbered for now.
We may survive if we continue as we are.
I know we protect ourselves against ilagitimate users but how much do
you think we actually ern?
A year?
Say something like 2000 to 4000 dollars something like that.
Its going to be easy to get brought out and well thats the end of blind games.
I don't even think sighted companies want to make games accessible
they will just take our ideas. and games.
Or they will leave us allone.
For now I think its best we sit tight.
There is a load of open source projects and groups around like agrip
and others.
Once we have enough people in the blindness community and companies
and orgs that use our stuff or are interested then maybe we can try
to hold our own.
I know we should reach out, but at the same time I often wander if
we are doing the wrong thing by doing just that.
What defence do we have if someone actually wanted to sue us, buy us
out or accuse us of coppying something or something like that.
Even if we are carefull, people seem to sue for no reason these days.
I am sure we could handle a piracy cracking suit, these are small.
But has anyone thought beyond that, I mean corperation against
coperation type suits.
I don't know if our 1 man band or 4 people or what ever small
companies even count as actual companies in the grand scheme of things.
I always fear that one day something bad is going to happen.
And I mean outside.
I wander what will happen 50 years from now.
Where will we be?
as we are, probably not though.
So the question is will we be finnished or will we actually get along
with sighted companies.
One of 2 paths exist and currently no one seems interested.
But if they do.
Then I fear we could just end up in the trash.
If we have enough big groups standing buy us maybe we can handle the
sort of triles we will have to face with sighted games.
I am sure that all the sighted companies will think about is graphics.
accessibility will come last and the games will cost to much.
Personally I prefur restricted and free.
I'm to scared to think what will happen.
I can just imagine, somewhere traiding auth keys for games and
companies that don't exist, playing games that have no obselete
things or function because their companies do not exist, and we will
just be back to old if games again or worse.

Re: [Audyssey] Advanced games

2006-05-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Dave.
I noticed in your previous email you liked Pitfall. Well, the original
Montezuma's Revenge was very similar to Pitfall. My version of Monty
attempts to follow the original closely as well as add a few new
challenges such as if you get bitten by a spider you need a potion to
heal yourself from the poison bites. I think it will make the game
challenging.
The other project Jedi Strike largely is mottled after the Jedi Knight
series of games. Who knows when it will come to market, but as a
developer I am attempting to recapture the games of yester year, but you
have a good point agout new games on the par with sighted games.
If I had to do it over again I would have made Final Conflict a real
time multiplayer game where everybody can pick a ship of the 20 ships,
and go to war. Perhaps you have 10 people, 5 would be Feds, and 5 would
be say Romulans, Klingons, or Cardassians. Another possability you would
be Klingons against Romulans, etc.
Even without a Star Trek theme I can invision a massive multiplayer
Lonewolf battle ship style game where people can pick to be a destroyer,
submarine, battleship, and that would be truly awesome. The only catch
is such games are huge, and probably would take forever to bring to market.

Hi.
One of the points about long range is that it is unspecific about ship
names and allot of information. Did you ever see on Star Trek Commander
Data might say to Picard I am picking up such and such type of vessel,
but not until they take a closer look does the Enterprise get an ID on
that vessel.
That is kind of where STFC comes from with lr scans. You can ID class
but not specifics.

Re: [Audyssey] Trek 2000 .. Tholians

2006-05-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, David.
You can attack and destroy all the enemy bases. The only problem with
Tholian bases they are harder than heck to kill because they can only be
killed by phasers, and sometimes a mine.
One of my favorite tactics is to attack a Tholian base. Get the Tholians
running like mad to come in andsave the base, drop a mine, and run.
Usually you can kill the base and 1 or more Tholian ships that way. One
time I got lucky enough to blow up the entire Tholian fleet and a base.

automatically target shield or main power, and knock them out the ship
would be over as your mext shot would take it out.
I know that ideas seam pretty good at the time they are made, but as I
have found way to often once actually introduced in to a game like STFC
it is hard to balance the game out again.

Re: [Audyssey] Advanced games

2006-05-30 Thread Christopher Bartlett
In a post a few months back, I expressed the opinion that the current
development paradigm in which one-person companies, or at most very
small shops are the only ones doing this work cannot produce the
kinds of titles you are looking for. Until game development can
actually support a developer and his/her family as a full-time
profession, there is an upper limit on the complexity of games that
can be created.

Re: [Audyssey] Advanced games

2006-05-30 Thread Søren Jensen
Hi.

If you want a accessible game for sighted, you should try a game called
Silent Hill 4 (The room.)

It's a adventure / action game, where you walk in Henrys nightmares. It's a
very scary game, and it's supports 5.1 surround sound. It's very user
friendly for blind people, because you can play it without the mouse.

Last time I played the game, I couldn't remember how to use my weapon. But
if I could remember it, I have finally knocked this nasty monster down to
the floor!

If you want to know more about the game or how to play it, we could start a
new subject called Silent Hill or something.

I plan to contact the company Konami there have made the game, and ask them
to make the game more accessible. It's really a cool game!

For the first time you play it, you must play it together with a sighted
person to understand what's going on.

Best regards Søren.

I figured it out, but now how do you shoot the computer? Is it all random?
I mean, I know how to load the gun and fire it, but how do you adjust your
aim?
