Thanks for posting these. I tried running your version, but I still
get the same exception after loading images as I get from my own build
of Hugin (posted previousily), which is re-assuring in some ways but
does not help me get a working Hugin.

I'll try another Windows machine.. tonight.

Hasn't this problem already been discussed on this newsgroups?

In summary on computers with multiple cores/processors images are
being loaded in parallel which consumes too much memory.. The error is
not coming from the memory which is currently being used, but from the
additional memory it wants to allocate.. You can find a better
explanation by search the newsgroup for "bad allocation"

The workaround was to reduce the number of CPUs Hugin uses..

In Hugin look at file->preferences-> number of CPUs. On my machine
this was set to 4 I had to reduce it to 1.

With 4 I'd typically get this error after 10 images (I've got a
smaller camera sensor)
With 2 I'd still occassionally got this error
So I end up having to reduce this to 1.

As I indicated, I tried everyone of the detectors, and for the ones that 
runs, they all fails - some quicker than others (meaning some fails after 2 
to 4 photos, others fails after loading 4 to 5 pictures.  Some detectors 
don't run at all (not found) but that's a different issue.  I am uploading 
some test pictures for others to try.  Will post the link once they become 
available.

[hugin-ptx] Re: Introducing Pannellum - an HTML5 Panorama Viewer

Thanks for the reports! It should work in recent desktop versions of
Firefox and Chrome with proper driver support. Safari needs WebGL to
be manually enabled, and Opera won't support it until Opera 12. Mobile
support is much more spotty. As for the reports of a black screen, I
think it is due to buggy WebGL implementations; when I first started
working on this last year, I got the occasional black screen, but with
more recent browser updates, this is no longer the case for me.

I can certainly change the text from "Load Panorama" to "Click to Load
Panorama." As for translations, there is no client side way for
detecting language that I know of, so it's a bit of a moot point; if
one wants to host it on a page in a different language, one can just
change the strings in the hosted copy. I might consider changing the
base implementation and adding some sort of image pyramid support in
the future, but I don't plan on adding new feature or developing it
much more until WebGL support matures more.

At the time of my first post, I didn't realize that the default setting was 
set to create control points at loading time.   That's why I thought the 
error occurs at loading time.  Upon further investigation, the error occurs 
at control points detection time.  So I reported it with a clarification.

reported by Riz.

I've had the same problem and found other messages about it in the
mailing list. They all concern Win7 64 bits and I feel we all have
enough RAM (4 to 8GB). As soon as I have time I'll retry again with a
new version on a Win7 64 with 4GB RAM, and another one with 8GB. If I
find an XP 64 and 32 I'll try on them too.

While attempting to align images I get a long list of the following
error messages...

Analysing i1:

It happens to each photo and the end result is that no control points
are found between any images, no matter how seemingly obvious the
images are overlapped. I'm running 64 bit windows 7. I've reinstalled
hugin to no avail, and tried several different control point settings.
Am I missing something?

I have the same issue here (except there's no error with the 1st
images, only after 7 or 8). I'm also running Win7 64 (i3 2100, 4GB
RAM). I've tried several hugin installers (latest one being 2011.02 64
bits). I always use the default settings (and ask the settings to be
reset while installing a new version).

My images are all 3872x2592 (taken with FF fisheye). Usually if I have
7 or 8 images all works fine (I load the images, choose FF fisheye
then click "Align..." and get a good pano). If I have more I get

If I resize my pics to be 1000x669 then I can correctly stitch 24
images (8 towards the horizon, 8 30° up, 8 30° down).
By the way, is there a way to reuse the pto that I created with the
smaller resolution images? It looks like when I choose "Apply
Template" with the big resolution images, I lose all the control
points.

I've been using Hugin before with XP and didn't encounter that issue
(I was using a different computer).

You are aware of the fact that you have claimed that the problem arises
upon the loading of the images in your opening mail, don't you?

Do you have an error message or, even better, a log file, in order to
prove your statement this time?

Very nice. I've tested it on Linux 64 bit (Debian testing, Nvidia
graphics card with drivers 295.49-1) ans the results are the
following :
1. Iceweasel (Firefox) 12.0 : works perfectly (fullscreen too)
2. Google Chrome 19.0.1084.52 : works perfectly (fullscreen
too)
3. Opera 11.64.1403 : I get the message "A browser supporting
   WebGL (and the canvas element) is required to view this panorama."

I'll test it it on some heavier panoramas and keep you informed.

The image alway shows what the output image will look like. (For speed
reasons it is not perfect.)
So if you move it  (or parts of it) it does affect the output image.

You can move the globe with the mouse. You need to grab beside the globe,
not the globe itself.
Moving the globe does not affect the output image.

We really need some screen video for hugin.

Yes, I have done both and still fails.  Incidentally, the failure is not 
when loading the images.  It's when detecting control points.  I've tried 
changing detectors and they all fail the same fashion (some sooner than 
others).

still thinks the mouse button is pressed when moving the mouse over the
panorama again. Not a big deal, but I thought I'd let you know.

Firefox 12.0, installed from the Ubuntu repositories: Works nicely! Also in
full-screen. Doesn't have the drag-out-off-the-pano-area problem described
above.

Hi, didn't work here on a firefox 12 on windows XP. Got a black screen 
after clicking to load the panorama. No error messages.  Visiting the WebGL 
site says that it is supported but experimental, but there simple cube 
rotated.

Works well, no glitches I could see. I had to enable WebGL support in
the browser first, using the following steps:
1. Type about:config in address bar
2. In the search box type webgl.
3. To enable WebGL, set webgl.force-enabled to true.

On the WebGL page (http://get.webgl.org/) is says:
Your browser supports WebGL
However, it indicates that support is experimental; you might see issues with 
some content.

Did not go further than the panorama though.

Hi Matthew,

I like your initiative to do something about the state of the
available web panorama viewers. If it weren't for those poor IE users,
it would be dead obvious, that WebGL is the way to go (and I have a
tendency trying to ignore those whenever I can ;)). I did some
experiments regarding WebGL and panorama viewing myself some time ago:

Although, my focus was primarily on getting some HDR panorama viewing
feature onto our website.

You seemed to be interested in a low a footprint script. I have about
400 lines of js and another 120 GLSL code (but admittedly using jquery
for convenience). The geometrical approach I used is different: there
is no textured 3D structure approximating a sphere and then looking at
it from the inside. I render a simple viewport sized quad and use a
fragment shader to find the proper pixel position in the source
texture for each pixel in the viewport.

You or anyone who is interested should be able to get a look at the
(uncompressed) code if you know your browser web debugging facilities.
If you think replacing tree.js with some GLSL code might be
interesting, let me know.

WebGL has its own problems.  For one, it doesn't seem to work for me at
all running Firefox 12 on Linux.  It also has the problem of giving
external content direct access to the graphics hardware.

Hi, didn't work here on a firefox 11 on windows XP. Got a black screen

Some ideas would be implementing cube faces, maybe with multi-resolution
and a way to detect HTML5 browsers and redirect to another place in case it
doesn't support it. I have done like this in many panoramas with VR 5 pano
viewer . It detects iPad and iPhone and
jumps to another link in negative cases, where I put a Salado Player.

The VR5 pano viewer uses 2 cubes with 2 different resolutions, one with
1024 pixels size and another with 480.

This sounds like a very interesting project. I haven't been able to test it
on my computer yet, but on Android I had no luck in getting your example to
work, unfortunately.

With the built-in browser (Android 2.2.2 Froyo), the viewer reports missing
WebGL support, which is probably true for that browser.

With Firefox 10.0.4 for Android, downloaded from Google Play just now,
after I tap the Load Panorams button, it says Loading for a while, and then
two thirds of the pano area turns black, and then nothing happens. I
googled for Webgl support in Firefox for Android, and it seems some users
have to turn it on (set webgl.force-enabled to true in about:config) before
it works. However, this didn't change anything for me.

After also enabling webgl.force_osmesa as suggested by e.g.
http://goo.gl/x1zEg it didn't work, but now I get the no webgl support
message like with the built-in browser.

I'll try testing on my computer later.

Btw, if you plan on translating the viewer into other languages, I'll be
able to do a Danish translation, for what it's worth :-)

I get a message saying “A browser supporting webgl (and the canvas element)
is required to view this panorama.” on my iPad. I was hopeful that there
would be a way of presenting panoramas on the ipad but this isn’t it, it
seems.

Have you tried to increase the image cache memory setting in the Hugin
Preferences dialog? Are you sure you have enough free disk space in your
TEMP directory?
