All the suggestions so far are good. PCOMM allows selecting multiple files at once. FTP with the mget command also is good. If you want a more GUI interface instead of issuing FTP commands from the command line you can get things like FileZilla or FTP Commander that make it easier to use FTP. I often use FileZilla myself and like it. Re: downloading CMS files
In addition to the excellent suggestions that you have received so far, ( I like and use FileZilla myself), you can also use Winders built in FTP client to download CMS files to your PC. You can use the client interactively, (via a CMD window), or in batch mode. I have used batch mode to download several files at once. It also allows you to rerun the downloads, (or uploads), as often as you want. To run it in batch mode, you need to create two files on your PC, a txt file and a bat file. The txt file can be named whatever you want and should look something like this: (PC name = getvm.txt) open your.vm.system userid password prompt lcd c:\tempftp ascii get cmsfn.cmsft pcfn.pcft get cmsfn2.cmsft pcfn2.pcft quit Update as appropriate for your system. The bat file needs to look something like this: (PC name = getvm.bat ftp -s:getvm.txt pause It obviously needs to reference the previously created txt file. Then from windows explorer, just double click on the getvm.bat file and it wil l magically connect to your VM system and download the specified files! :-) (The pause command will leave the CMD window open until you press the enter key so you can see the FTP messages.) I have a similar script that runs daily. I found that I had to add the -n switch to keep from being prompted for the password. This might be due to differences in the FTP client code. My command looks like this: ftp -n -s:getvm.txt vmsys where vmsys is the IP address or name of the VM system. With the vmsys added to the FTP command, you do not need the open command in the file. If you are referring to the requirements management tool we use, don't worry about. Open a PMR with PCOMM and tell them that you can't find the documentation on how to perform a host-initiated file transfer. Assuming they don't have an answer for you, tell them you want to open a requirement. But remember not to ask for ALMCOPY. Ask for a host command that will initiate a file transfer between the host and the workstation. (IND$FILE requires the workstation to initiate the transfer.) You want the ability to transfer the file in binary and as text. For text transfers you would like the file to be translated according to the current codepage settings of the emulator to avoid having to supply options. You get the idea.
