Someone mention that Album Gain works but no matter what settings I use
Spotty and Spotty Connect is a lot louder than music from my library.
The volume differs between Spotify (Spotty) tracks to.

On older Spotty version converting to pcm or flac and set the Volume
Adjustment/Replay Gain to Enabled worked fine for me.

2021-06-29 Thread Michael Herger

It is old :-) The Pi runing pcp is a B+ I think, possibly a 2. Pcp
version is 1.18b and it use a HiFi Berry card for sound. The LMS is a 2.

Oh my... please get up to date on those parts. pCP 1.18b is probably
older than Spotty! Updating to the latest pCP would probably have taken
less time (and probably solved this problem at the same time), than
writing back and forth here...

Feel free to come back here should that not fix your issue.

I also live in France, and normally start my day with the 'Today' progam

This mornings program was littered with the rights restriction message,

altough there was a fair amount of sport on the program, what with
Wimbledon and a football match tonight.

Yeah...might be the right time to finally move the LMS to a Pi, I have
thought of that for some time but it seems very "tinker'ey" for me and
might be beyond my tech-ability.

As for the upgrade, it was the LMS upgrade, which is packaged as a QNAP
Package, that was upgraded to 8.2 , not an OS upgrade. I tried to
downgrade to the previous QPKG but when it starts it checks for a new
version and downloads it... :).

I will if I can run the spotty-custom binary.

upgrade of the QPKG to 2.1 (which included Spotty 4.5.3)

Oh, it did work before an OS update? What might have happened is that
some dependency (glibc) or something changed in the OS. But these
libraries usually get newer version, which would be backwards compatible.

Have you ever tried running the spotty-custom binary (see the Spotty
settings for the full path) manually?

You might want considering a Pi with picoreplayer.org. It would be much
faster running LMS than your NAS, and it's well supported...

I tried each Helper plugin, each one at a time, and the only one that
does not throw errors in the LMS log file is the Legacy ARM v6/7 plugin.
I am running on a QNAP NAS with with QPackage from Digimaster that
bundles Spotty and the helper apps in it. That said...my NAS is about
10 years old and I think it is an ARMv5 architecture:

Operating system: QLMS 2.X (QNAP TurboStation) [Debian 9 stretch] - EN -
utf8
Platform Architecture: armv5tel-linux

Perhaps my old NAS is off support? Spotty was working prior to the
upgrade of the QPKG to 2.1 (which included Spotty 4.5.3)

Nope. With default skin you can set a subscribed feed (as in -not- a
search result) as a favourite, which you cannot do with Material - as
the URL required to use when storing a favourite is not returned as part
of the list query response.

I run the LMS on a Pi, I also run picoreplayer on another pi. And, yes,
they are a bit old and running old versions.

What kind of Pi, and what version of pCP?

After reading some more in the thread, I can add that in the file type
setting I only have PCM enabled for Spotty, OGG and mp3 are greyed out
and thus also inactive, flac is set to inactive (I see the Swedish
version of the lms admin so I don't know if the English term is disabled
or inactive).

What about flac? Did you try it?

I guess that it is the legacy helper that defines these
settings?

Some of them: PCM/FLAC should always be available. Ogg direct depends on
the helper indeed. 0.12 wouldn't support it. MP3 requires lame to be

If I include a custom font in my plugin that includes this character (I
really only need this 1 character) is it possible to display this
character on jivelite *without* installing a new font? Or was that only
a thing with the older Logitech devices (line display)?

Correct, the custom fonts as included in this plugin are for the old
ip3k based players (Boom, Classic, Transporter) only. The newer models
with color displays would need a different font installed on the device
itself. Custom fonts can be done their, but they must be done as
applets, rather than a plugin. I believe there's one in the current list
of add-ons for the devices, if you need inspiration.

Good to hear.

I've just now modified the code to use a fallback which would at least
play tracks where the artist in question matched the artist_id when the
plugin is missing. This would miss collaborations between that artist
and others (those have a different artist_id) but it's better than not

Thanks for finding this corner case as it's a worthwhile inclusion in

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] MusicInfoSCR 4.3 - now with theOriginal Boom Booklet Layout

2021-06-29 Thread afriend

Michael,

I'm posting this question here because your plugin includes custom fonts
that allow you to use custom charcters on the display of some devices.
And since you're the LMS core developer I'm hoping for a final
possible/not possible answer.

I'd very much like to use the *blackstar unicode 2605 character* with my
plugin's default title formats.

Unfortunately jivelite's default font FreeSans doesn't include this
character. So it won't be displayed on pCP, Touch, Radio or anything
else using jivelite unless you install a different font that includes
this character (which probably hardly any user will do).

If I include a custom font in my plugin that includes this character (I
really only need this 1 character) is it possible to display this
character on jivelite *without* installing a new font? Or was that only
a thing with the older Logitech devices (line display)?
Ralphy thinks it's not possible without installing a new font. What's
your take on this?

Thanks.

That sounds about right in so far as I understand it. The Beeb are in
somethink of a bind - they are public service, and with an implicit (and
sometimes explicit) mission to have the UK "heard around the world"
But money and contracts matter too, and sometimes the public and the
private get in a tangle.

We had a conversation here ?last year? about oddities that do crop up.
IIRC, I could hear Test Match Special on my French-based laptop - no VPN
- using the BBC webpage; but I could only get the Rights Restriction
message when trying to access it via LMS. As I recall, someone
suggested a couple of useful ways of getting LMS to mirror what I was
hearing on my laptop.. Where there's a will, there's a way - and
I've seldom encountered a more helpful set of folks than those here in
the Forums!

LMS 8.1.2 - 1622353561
Win10

It appears it's not. :-(

So I've decided to take the easy option and move LMS installation to a
truly 64 bit machine. :-)

My understanding.

Where the program is a BBC originated even such as a Panel show, drama
or a live performance such a concert, in studio or Proms - BBC makes
sure beforehand it has agreed all the rights to broadcast (live &
repeats) with the performers.

Sports events etc which are not put on by BBC and so BBC have to buy the
rights and accept restrictions by event organiser.

Others rights such as from composers - often don't apply to R3 which has
a lot classical or are negotiated as part of the event or normal
Performing Right fees. R4 content is mainly contemporary.

Rightly or wrongly, I expected to hear what I have heard for the last 20

OK, sports and live music will often have restrictions - but I don't
listen much to them on the BBC. BTW, there is an oddidy here - BBC R3

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Radio Rights Restrictions

2021-06-29 Thread bpa

I agree with Paul and finger trouble is an issue especially where
programs get delayed such as football going into extra time or with
cricket where rain stops play.

In the past, I have found examples of the Podcast of a program being UK
restricted but the "Listen Again" version not restricted (and have
better audio quality). This is finger trouble.

Restrictions can also apply to First-time or Live broadcasts (and so not
on later repeats) or sometimes an unexpected performance happens (e.g.
an interviewee starts singing)

Just for completeness - the MP3 streams are classified as non UK.

Well you live outside the UK. Exactly what did you expect to hear?

The BBC do not hold the rights to broadcast the programming to listeners
outside of the UK.

It is precisely why Sports Extra is limited to the UK 24/7.

I stream (mostly via Sounds) BBC R4, R3 and R4Ex almost all day, every
day; and there are almost never any Rights Restrictions cut-outs.

The only time I use a VPN for said streaming is when I happen to be
using it for something else (TV, banking etc etc).

The restrictions I do occasionally encounter are, as you and others say,
almost always sports-related; or - and this is an odd one - that Thought
for the Day segment on R4 Today program, where some contributors must
have a contract that gives the Beeb UK rights only to their
musings.

The restrictions seem a tad random just now, and I suspect Paul Webster,
above, has the right of it - summer "finger troubles" in the BBC control
room!

except with a VPN but VPNs are not guaranteed to provide the UK only

BBCiPlayer plugin is out of date and shoudl nto be used. UK vs nonUK
options is no longer trustworthy especially since BBC stopped using
Limelight.

Rights restrictions often happen in summer because of more sports.

I suspect that with international football and tennis now on from 11:00
to 22:00 then BBC systems might go wrong when someone either has to
press a button (to indicate international rights prevent broadcast) or
perhaps a flag not correctly set in their internal EPG for their playout
systems or a late schedule change.

So a news report that happens to include audio from a sports event might
make this happen - and then someone forgets to clear it (like we
sometimes hear with traffic announcements on FM radio when driving along
and radio switches to local traffic news and then stays there for the
subsequent phone-in about pasties of the world).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.5 - improved Ogg direct, Autoplay, multi-user setup

2021-06-29 Thread Andy_NO

Browsing this thread it seems like I have an outdated setup for LMS but
it worked perfectly with Spotty until a few days ago. Now I have the
problem that the connection to Spotify works as usual (I have premium
account), I can chose titles and they will play, but I do not hear any
sound.

LMS 8.0.0-1605892077
running on Synology Disk Station DSM 6.2.4-25556
Spotty v4.5.3

My devices are
5 SB Radios
1 SB Touch

Can you help me with this setup or tell me how I can rollback Spotty to
the last working version for me? Otherwise my kids will go crazy because
they can't listen to their podcasts and music anymore...

And I am not an expert coder or sys admin...

Best,

Andreas

I only listen to a few BBC "Listen Again" and so don't encounter rights
restrictions but from dealing with BBCiPlayer plugin I got to know when
rights restrictions messages typically occurred.

You should not be getting any rights restrictions messages on UK
streams.

Are you outside the UK and using a VPN to access UK streams ?
BBC often actively try to restrict VPN access. With BBCiPlayer plugin,
some VPN users had to use the Limelight CDN as their VPNs didn't work on
the Akamai CDN URLs. I believe BBC have now moved away from Limelight.
If you are UK based it's possible you are getting caught by accident
(i.e. a VPN is using the same ISP as yourself for the UK access) and so
should report it to BBC.

I guess that it is the legacy helper that defines these
settings?

What Alexa locale are you on (UK or US)? Do you have the 'Full Text
Search' plugin installed and active?

This was exactly my issue. I had a 32 bit version of Win7 even though
the processor supported 64bit; so when Win10 free upgrade came along the
upgrade was also to 32bit win10.

I ended up reinstalling windows 10 with the 64 bit version and manually
adding in the 64 bit Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime.

Since then all has been good.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] 'MediaServer' *certified* Alexa skill for LMS

2021-06-29 Thread gegen

Hi philchillbill

Recently if I ask MediaServer to play something by for example 'Steely
Dan' Alexa replies "Apparently you do not have any songs by Steely Dan
in your library".
If I then ask MediaServer to play something by 'Steely' then a selection
of Steely Dan songs do play.
If I ask to play something by an artist with a one word name for example
'Texas' a selection of songs play but if I ask to play 'Fairport
Convention' I get the "Apparently you do not have any songs by Fairport
Convention in your library" reply again. If I then say play something by
"Fairport" the songs play.

Sorry to say I'm not sure when this started happening as I've not been
using Alexa for a while :(

I'm running the latest 8.2 nightly on PCP 7.01, any help appreciated.

Playing an album and omitting the artist name works great and when the
"play something by" does work the fact that the songs get shuffled is
really good, thanks.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Radio Rights Restrictions

2021-06-29 Thread agbagb

I listen to the BBC (usually Radio 4 FM) here in France, usually these
days via the Sounds plug-in. Lot's and lots of interruptions these last
2 days with that annoying "Rights Restrictions" message over-riding the
programming. I'm getting that same message via Sounds, the old iPlayer
streams (both UK and non-UK) and even the BBC's own mp3 stream. Anybody
else getting the same? It of course always happens from time to time,
with specific programming or segments / guests. But I'm getting it now
half-way through, for example, a sports report, or an interview with a
UK politician
