Re: templates
Steve, First when you save as a session template, theres an option to save media. Uncheck that box. Then import session data. Select the PTX file of the song you want to import tracks/media from. When the import window opens, V-O right, to tracks. enter act with it and V-O right, to ‘source-destination’, interact with it. choose the source track in the column to the left, On the right you will see the destination track. click in the combo box, you will be given the choice of “none, New track, and the tracks of the destination song. As far as importing tracks into the template, you may have to just import them, then copy each imported track and paste it onto the tracks that you have bussed out already. You may be able to select all of the tracks in the mix window and when you import the new tracks they may populate over the tracks in the session that you have selected. I am not sure if that is an option, but it seems like it would be a common sense approach. Other than that you would have to re rout each track that you import to the bus you want it on, or group them together. Perhaps somebody else has a working recommendation. In the automation window, enable Send Mute automation. With a control surface, the following procedure is simple. You mute the send, set the track's automation to Write and engage the transport. Without a surface, you'll need to go to the Track's output window to the sends section and mute the send and then enable Write mode and engage the transport. Wherever you want the track to send to the delay, you'll need to click the Mute button to toggle its state. Again, with a control surface, it's quite easy and intuitive. If your unmuted sections are particularly short and you find it tough to perform the button presses in quick succession, you can use a slightly different method for the mute automation. Start with muting and engaging the transport in write mode. Select the word or words you wish to unmute to the delay, make sure you're still in Write mode, unmute the send and engage the transport. The track will only play for the duration of the selected word or words. Automation will be written for that section as unmuted and will revert to the muted state after the selection. You can repeat this process for each word or section. By default, automation is set to change to Auto Touch after an automation pass so you'll have to switch back to Auto Write each time you select the word or words. Be aware, however, that when you engage the transport, you'll be writing the current mute state so you need to make sure everything is correct before engaging the transport. With a surface, it's fairly easy to just keep the automation in Auto Touch mode and use the send mute button to unmute and mute on the fly for each section that requires the automation. Really don’t want to get in a back and forth about this, I would rather we save our energy for the accessibility challenges outside of this forum. Also my schedule won’t allow it. From first hand knowledge ProTools 10, and 11, in Mountain Lion and Mavericks was unusable. When I say this was fixed in les than two months, with out going in to details just know I’m not guessing. I understand that we all have different motives for wanting to get things fixed For some of us it’s our work, for some of us it’s training, and for some it’s just a hobby, so I understand some may be abit more aggressive about timing than others. I’m not interested in a divisive discussion here because I’m a where of where our focus must be. When accessibility is taken seriously and made a priority Avid Technology is a perfect example things can get fix in an appropriate time. In Avid’s case their were a thousand moving parts in the UI of the Ap, most of the accessibility issues were fixed in les than two months once it became a priority. In other words lets keep working. However, I think this might work: Select the range for which you want to write new volume automation. When you play back that section, your volume fader will reflect the written volume automation level. Set your track's automation mode to Write. Set your volume fader to the desired volume level. Engage the transport for the duration of the selection. You should have the new automation level written now. Control-Shift-up and down arrow commands are for clip gain, not for automation. Re: Pitch 'n time
John maybe the confusion is, in my explanation. So I’ll try again, Pitch -n Time pro V3 will work in PT 10.3.5 and PT11 and higher. In PT 10.3.5 the parameters can’t be read by voice over, but you can use the shortcut keys I referred to in my earlier email. There is a shortcut command to move semitones but cents can only be adjusted visually at this time… Now in PT11 and higher, you can interact with the parameters in which case you can adjust semitones and cents individually. I can swear i saw somewhere how to change tempo of the project, but can for the life of me not remember where, so now i'm looking for somewhere to read up on this, anyone know where i can get this reading up done? And i should mention that this is from a blind persons perspective. Also is it possible to slow down a projects tempo in order to record specially fiddly bits and then return to the normal tempo afterwards, since it's apparently quite hard to edit midi in PT 10, which i use? Thanks in advance again. /Krister -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Pro Tools Accessibility group. Re: getting started
Hello Cody I’m not sure of the peripherals on the macbook air But I would think you would need more than 64 gigs to effectively run Lion or mountain lion. As for selecting a working version of pro tools, I would as most users here recommend version 9.4 you can then update I think now to V. 9.8. This can be purchased and downloaded from the Avid store. www.Avid.com All of these things can effectively be done using pro tools, I don’t think any one on this list would downgrade to cakewalk if given the choice. Personally I sequence with an Akai MPC4000 but I’ve pulled up drums sometimes from expantion2 or venom a pro tools plug-in. M-audio and others make an USB midi keyboard that can trigger your patches or sequencers such as the korg motif, Or Roland’s phantom or drum controllers like the akai and others can be used as stand alone midi controllers. Hope this helps. Also, how does one going about selecting and obtaining/paying for a copy of pro tools. I know there are several versions, and though i've been on this list for months and have never said anything, the time is nearing that i may make the transition from sonar 8 5 to pt. Basically the only reason I'd use windows is to use cakewalk, but, is pt currently good enough to do that, I.E. extensive raw audio trimming, editing, moving things around, adding effects, etc, and I know the midi aspect is still a bit sketchy, so what are people doing for this. I'd primarily being using midi only for drums, as my very small apartment doesn't allow for a full sized kit. Re: getting started
Hy Krister the list deals with the most entry to the more advance issues so by all means feel free to ask. The MBox is the interface in other words when you send your audio to pro tools IE your vocals or instruments, the MBox converts that analog signal to the digital signal which pro tools uses to your computer. This signal is then converted back to analog to your speakers. Usually there’s a stereo input and output. The stereo input is where you would plug your mick or instrument, The output sends sounds out to your speakers. The MBox communicates with pro tools on your computer by USB. Hope this helps l8r On 1/21/13, Krister Ekstrom kris...@kristersplace.com wrote: Hi folks. I too am a newbie to the list and pro tools. I bought mine bundled with an MBox 3rd gen. I wonder if using the apple time capsule will be an ok option? It's wireless, but it's got a USB port, so I'm thinking I could use that if I wired into it for recording.that would be sick. Or would a normal external hdd be better. I'll look at the packages Avid offers. I guess my biggest question is, is the accessibility currently employed by pro tools justifiable by the price I'm paying? Or is this still in experimental stages. I own a mid 2011 air with 1.8GHZ processor, 4GB of ramm and i can mix on it no problem wit aproject containing 12 to 24 tracks. Wouldn't try recording to one of those without an external drive though as that much constant writting to any SSD drive will shorten its life span greatly. If you go for the pro i'd spring for the 8GB or 16GB of ramm if affordable and a 128GB SSD as well. The advantage of the pro is you can swap out the cd rom drive for a second HD down the road should you so choose to. But like i Said you will need a second HD for recording for best performance no matter which laptop you go with, the pro just gives you more flexibility. As for Pro TOols. Any authorized dealer like the usual online ones are good places to start. If you need an interface its a better deal if you buy Pro tools bundled with one of avid's interface. I don't use midi much if at all so can't speak to that, so will leave it for others to answer. I prefer to build my drum tracks from drum loops personally. important control-24 users
Hey guys for all Control-24 owners, A parts seller of digidesign/Avid electronic parts informed me to day At the end of this calendar year there will be no more support for the control-24. That means purchasing faders, fader cards, power supplies and such parts Like E Proms will be much harder to buy. These parts are Digi specific so finding generic parts will not work.

They should be made aware if now there's 100 blind users if they create a more accessible product that number will grow. I also agree the educational aspect of it could open up even a bigger market. I think we all have to figure out how we can contribute to the fight. - Original Message - From: Brian Casey To: ptaccess@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, April 30, 2012 8:05 AM Subject: Re: Just My take Mike, Great points again. Brale on elivators is a very different cost to effort ratio to making ProTools accessible I'm sure, but I get your point, and those kinds of measures aren't only down to building laws etc. Perhaps some organisation like the American council for the Blind could take up a lobbying roll on behalf of blind/visually impaired professionals in the audio industry? Being from Ireland, I'm not too close to the Irish equivalent, and Ireland is very insignificant anyway, but I'd imagine the U.S. organisation might yield quite a bit of lobbying power, and this might be a good start as a majority of software/hardware companies in the DAW game are based in the U.S. An organisation like that might also be able to push the educational angle. It has been mentioned in the past, but the education secter is very important to a company like Avid or Apple even more so. If equal access to education is the question, then that could lead somewhere a little more permanent. However, like you say Mike, there are times to be aggressive and times for other actions, and if an aggressive approach is taken across the board, forcing accessibility on these companies may lead to a hollow kind of fix, where they reluctantly do just enough to make it look like they're keeping on top of accessibility issues, and for us professionals we could be worse off if that was the case, but who knows. Hence why I say be aggressive toward Apple with logic, let Slau do his thing, let scripters be scripters, but perhaps long term see if some more powerful collective for lobbbying can be established, something a little more political and more interactive than a petition. Finally, I think one of the clever things Slau has done is not force the issue, and try to nurture a genuine interest, pride or sense of responsibility in at least someone in a company like Avid to try and address accessibility. If you yell at someone to clean up their act they might do so, but not with vitality, however if you show someone a glimpse of positive outcomes that might result, the effects might be more lasting and they might even bring new ideas to the table. Brian. From: Mike Lockett Sent: Monday, April 30, 2012 1:30 PM To: ptaccess@googlegroups.com Subject: Just My take Hello my Take for what its worth... I think PTaccess is only a forum, maybe there should be an organized union. The like of one means that all of us are fighting this accessibility war as individual agents. I'm not sure which side of the aggressive verses patients argument side I fall on. though my life's experience says there's a place for both of them. Secondly more times than not when we get on an elevator there's normally Braille, though doing the course of a day maybe 3 or 4 blind people out of thousands get on the elevator. so I'm not sure numbers or our like of should stop us from pursuing something we've paid for. Protools is just one battle to be wedged. There are plug-ins even apple probably could do more. The rule of thumb is normally as time passes things get better, the scary thing here is that its not guaranteed. The next version of protools because of a window change could go from %80 to %20 I hope not but its possible. Until there's some official organization this is what we are stuck with the PT ACCESS group sharing ideas and war stories.

The only way it will record is by pressing Shift plus command plus space and that sets the track on a half speed type of mode and that is not a viable way to make songs. Hey Nate unfortunately no. There are some work arounds though, you can go to your track list button and show only selected tracks. You can also VO shift M, or right click the solo, Mute, Rec enable buttons this will toggle all to the opposite state, and clicking one more time will toggle all of them back now you can make your selection. - Original Message - From: Poppa Bear To: ptaccess@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2012 10:19 PM Subject: Key Stroke Question Is there a key stroke that will tell you these things, 1.
