How to translate two strings/ Software Center
Hi! I translated them both two days ago but am not sure whether correct so if anyone know the answer to this question it would be nice to hear from You.There is however something stranger: "My role" https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu-rtm/14.09/+source/unity-scope-mediascanner/+pots/unity-scope-mediascanner/pl/+translate?show=new_suggestionsin unity-scope-mediascanner package. UIFE request for software-center
Hi all, In order to work around bug #1151621 [1], in software-center, the best solution I have found is to remove the offending code (which is correct, but the bug in the underlying libraries causes a "crash" for), which includes also removing the "Cut" menu item from the Edit menu. This menu entry is only used when selecting text in the search entry, and not by any other means. It is still possible to use Ctrl+X or the context menu, to cut or copy selected text from that entry. I am therefore requesting UI freeze exception approval, so that we may ship this workaround in Ubuntu 13.04, as it is very unlikely the root cause will be fixed for it. Thanks. Re: Software Center
I do not think what you are trying to do is possible since this would enable you to install applications for 13.04 in 12.04. However, for testing purposes the best way to see your works results is to set up an Virtual Maschine (e.g. VirtualBox, Testdrive) with a Daily Build of Ubuntu Raring 13.04: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ VirtualBox and Testdrive (and maybe also other VMs) are available through Software Center. Software Center
I'd like to ask whether it's possible to add software sources of 13.04 to the software sources of 12.04? I mean the sources of Software Center. I'm finishing translation of app-install-data but some strings are hard to translate correctly without being able to check in which line of SoftCenter my string will be used and what the program is all about. I don't translate app-install-data. I make it speak a language people will understand. It will help me a lot if someone drops me a line I should add to the sources to see programs from 13.04 in 12.04 without upgrading or installing an alpha of 13.04. The feature being added is integration with Software Center. For a demonstration of the changes, see the design spec paragraph [2] and the YouTube video [3]. Do note that that YouTube video is running the same branch that is proposed for merging in Unity trunk that needs a freeze exception. The merge request is [4], also linked to the bug report [1]. For a detailed overview of the changes and implementation, see the huge bug description at [1]. In summary, the changes in behavior are: 1) Icon flies out from software center to the Unity launcher 2) Icon displays progress on top of it when installation is going on. 3) Icon has a "waiting to install" tooltip during installation (NOTE: I added this string in Unity trunk and Unity precise packages BEFORE both the freezes, so no strings are being added). 4) Icon wiggles, tooltip changes to app name when installation is complete. Icon becomes usable. No strings are being added. The only string involved with the implementation, "Waiting to install", has been a part of Unity since 5.2, which was pushed to Precise before the freezes. Hi Bilal, thanks for the heads up. New string for translation in Software Center
Hello translators! I wanted to alert you to a new string for translation that we needed to add in Software Center as part of the fix for bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712377 . The added string is "Ignore and install", and it is used for one of the buttons in the warning dialog that is displayed under the conditions described in the bug. For your reference, the new string can be viewed in the screenshot attached to the bug: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/69417103/SoftwareCenter-NewStringIgnoreAndInstall.png Once again, please accept my apologies for this late change! Thank very much! And my best regards, Gary -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators
UI Freeze Exception Request: Open apt: URIs with Software Center
While working on getting the Gnome user docs ready for Ubuntu 11.04, I came across this bug where apt: URIs are opened by a small apturl installer window instead of by Software Center. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apturl/+bug/426215 According to the Software Center specifications, Software Center should handle these links: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#apturl Benefits of this change: When installing software from an apt link, users will be able to see a screenshot, ratings and reviews (file size, version number, etc.) as opposed to only seeing a small installer window with the software description. Ubuntu Software Center is a much better looking and more useful interface than the simple apturl window. Caveat: This still won't affect apt: URIs typed into Firefox as ubufox calls apturl directly. http://pad.lv/634915 This will however benefit apt: links in yelp. I am already working with Jim Campbell to ensure that the Ubuntu docs reflect this change. Hello again translations team! Thanks to Hendrik Knackstedt and Florian Greinus we have become aware of a string in Software Center that was mistakenly not marked for translation. This is a very prominent string that is displayed in the UI whenever a software item is installed or removed, and so this was a great catch indeed and an important one for us to fix. Here is a link to the bug report from Florian: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/759240 The string is "In Progress...", and as I mentioned, this is displayed whenever a transaction is in progress in Software Center. Two string changes for translation in Software Center
Hello Translators! We recently received a bug report from Dennis Baudys that pointed out a non-localizable date string in the software item screen of Software Center (thanks, Dennis!): https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751068 We definitely wanted to fix this one with the result that we have two string changes for translation as shown: 1. 'Purchased on %s' has changed to 'Purchased on %Y-%m-%d' 2. 'Installed on %s' has changed to 'Installed on %Y-%m-%d' Note that we've included a comment to the translator in the .pot file for each of these strings as well. My apologies for this late string change! But I think the result will be a much nicer presentation of these date strings. Thank you for your good work! Hello, this is just a quick mail to let you know that I had to add strings to software-center in order to fix bug #554319.
