No it doesn't have a lock. the moment you put it on it will communicate with
the device it's pared up too. That's what we use, even to find out something
simple as the time, and it's instant. The nice thing about the on and off
switch, if you're carrying it in a bag, there's not much chance of it
accidently turning on and if you leave it all together as it comes when you
prchase it, then of course with the lid which is very easy to raise up and
down. With the lid down even with it turned on there's no way to accidently
hit any of the keys.

Hi,

I like the iClever folding keyboard. It is fairly sturdy, and the keys
are pretty easy to find. I have trouble with many small keyboards, but
the keys on this one are fairly well separated.

Re: bluetooth keyboard recommendation

2018-08-11 Thread Arlene
Nene, the keyboard has an pplications key, though we're not sure exactly
what it's called but I'll tell you the order of the keys that change other
keys. Across the top of the keyboard here's what the keys are without any
other key punch to modify them.
The very bottom left corner key will change the top row of keys. The accent
key plus that left bottom button works like your home button and will take
you out of whatever you're doing.1 plus the bottom left button becomes your
down screen brightness button. 2 does the upscreen brightness. 3 plus the
left button appears to brings you back to page 2, no matter where you are
it brings you back to mail. If you're in an app it will close it, and if you
hit it again it will go back to the icon you have on top of the screen, for
us it's mail, but it won't open the icon, very much like the home button
would do. 5 with the left key, it switches input modes, such as imogi I
might not be spelling that right, and for another mode english u. s. 6 we're
not sure about this one. 7 wil pause and play. 8 seems to skip when you're
playing something so possibly fast forwarding. 9 mutes and un mutes. 0 turns
the volume down. next is iphen that turns the volume up. equals doesn't seem
to be doing anything. The next key on the right of that left key is control,
and going to the right of control, that's the options key, to the right of
options is the comand key, then space, to the right of space is slash, then
backslash, then left arrow, bottom arrow, right arrow and up arrow which is
above the down arrow. going from the right bottom of the right side of the
keyboard, going up you have the right arrow key in the very right corner,
next one up is shift, and above that is enter, the next key up is delete,
and the top right corner is equals. and This is what you've been waiting
for, above all the keyboard keys you'll have a slider, slide to the right
and you're keyboard is turned on. Continue on over to the right edge of the
keyboard and you have the usb charging port. just to the left of the on/off
switch is a little button you push to pare the keyboard, it will pop
numbers up in the device you're trying to pare up too. Just type that number
in and you're pared up. The control and options key held down together will
do certain things such as, for example while holding down the control and
options key and tapping the spacebar opens whatever app you're on. I don't
know how this would work with fingerprint identification, but when you're on
the home button, the control and options held down with tapping the 8 key
will be like tapping your home button. There's so much you can do here, so
since we mainly use the phone more than the keyboard we don't know quite all
you can do with all of this. For the person that asked about the f-5 it
doesn't seem to have it. We're thinking this keyboard wasn't designed to be
used with a desktop, not that you couldn't but we did everything we know to
do, but that f-5 doesn't seem to be available.

Yup, the black webb has the number keys at the top of the keyboard where
number keys usually are, and these number keys double as controls when
you're listening to audio and video media, such controls as play, rewind
and so on. It's a true apple keyboard so it doesn't have the function keys
that you would have on a window keyboard. This keyboard was designed to
work

with the ipad mini, but it works so well with the se phones. We mainly
navigate on the screen with our fingers, but really like using this
keyboard
with the phone. It's a very sturdy keyboard and is about the size of an
ipad
mini. The things we like about it, the on and off switch, if the keyboard
is

off, if you accidentally touch your keyboard it won't wake it up. For
example if you had the keyboard close by you at night, and I want my $400
clock to just tell me the time, I just slide the little power button on,
and

then you just use your back and forth arrow key so your $400 clock and
calendar can tell you the time and date from the clock and the calendar
and

if you wake up enough to read email and get other notifications and more.

Hi All,

Just to wrap this around in a positive note, please do remember my name as I
don't use this gmail account for any official marketing or other emails. I stay

I do agree that I could have added a few more paragraphs. Perhaps the engineer

In any case, bygones are bygones and I'm happy to get the replies and the email

I will write a second email in regards to the improvements and some background

Hi marie,

Glad it worked, but just FYI, the play/pause button are in the same spot, e.g.
they are a tioggle so to speak, play becomes pause if music is playing and vice
versa.

pauses it. This is great, you are a genius.

Subject: RE: Sonos problem

That would be exactly what the problem is. You will probably need sighted
assistance to turn them back on, maybe Be My Eyes might work. I should suggest
to Be My Eyes that they approach Sonos and see if they are interested in
participating in their program where you can connect to their tech support via
Be My Eyes, then somebody could probably direct you to press the correct spot
on top of the speaker in no time.
Also, I highly recommend you ask a sighted friend or family member to halp
youput some tactile markings on top of the speaker so you know where to press
for volume, play/pause and where the button is which mutes the microphones. I
must say Sonos should have thought of this and 3-dimensional markings should
have been put there as part of the manufacturing process, it could have been
done in a way that it wold not have taken away from the clean look they
apparently wanted, just a slightly raised circle for play/pause and a greater
than and less than symbol for volume up and down and maybe a square or an X for
muting the speakers.
Marie, if you don’t have anybody you can ask or don’t use Be my Eyes send me an
email directly to siegh...@live.ca and we can set up a time for a Facetime call
and my wife can see if she can direct your finger to push the right button.
In the meantime, I just asked her to show me and the button to toggle the
microphones on and off is right in the middle and almost at the very back if
you are standing in front of the speaker.
So, stand in front of your Sonos One, put both hands on each side and near the
back, then try to touch in the middle and maybe a fingers width from the back
edge. If you hear the sound Alexa makes when you ask it something it’s not the
right spot, if you hear another sound, more like a two-tone gurgle (not sure
how I can describe it) you hit the right spot, just keep saying “Alexa” and see
if there is a reaction. I would also make sure you first play something and
pause it using the app because if you touch/tap and the music starts playing
you are way to far to the front, the play/pause is also in the middle
referenced from the left and right edges, but much further to the front of the
speaker. That is also where volume up and own is, to the left and right of
play/pause, but not nearly as far in the back.
Feel free to email me or you can call me using Facetime Audio and the email
address I gave above, at least I can listen and tell you if you hit the right
spot.

Good luck,
Sieghard

A little time ago, I asked a question on this list re a word I had read as one
of the clues in an
April 2013 puzzle in Seven Little Words. The word was astrovolcano.
I received only one reply and that was from Bill Garrick who suggested that,
perhapsan astrovolcano
was a burst of light from outer space: akin to the Arora Borealis/Australis:
a very good
suggestion but, I think, one, for all its merrits, was wrong.
Upon further research, it seems to me that BlueOx who are, I believe, the
developers of the game,
made it up as I cannot find that actual word in Google. The closest I can get
is stratavolcano, the
type of volcano that was, and, I think may still be, playing merry hell in
Hawaii!
BTW: the solution to the astrovolcano clue is Alaska's Katmai, a nature

Re: bluetooth keyboard recommendation

2018-08-11 Thread Arlene
Andy, you can tell the keys on this keyboard. You could feel the inditations
between the keys, which is a bit smaller and narrower inditation than on our
computer keyboards which I've noticed since I'm typing on my computer's
keyboard now. So you could easily tell the letters apart on this black webb
bluetooth keyboard, the inditations between the keys are just a bit smaller and
narrower and closer compared to the inditations and separate ness of the keys
on our computer keyboards and the f and j keys are clearly marked and easy to
feel and locate. What you made me think of, is you know how on some of the
button phones you almost can't tell the difference between the keys on the
number pad, due to the inditations between the keys being really faint? This
keyboard's inditation isn't faint like that, you would be able to feel the
inditation that separateness of the keys. This keyboard has a hinged cover/lid,
that when open you could place an ipad mini in the lid , in fact it has a round
cut out for the camera, headphones, power, up down volume and speaker. These
cut outs are very neat and non intrusive. We have more than one of these
keyboards, and as we did with one of them, if you didn't want the lid on there
with a tiny screw driver you could remove the 2 tiny screws and the lid will
come off. Actually we have more than one of these keyboards, we have one of
these keyboards with the lid on and the other one with the lid off, and we like
to use them either way. Placing the ipad in the cover doesn't seem that sturdy
even though this keyboard was designed to use with an ipad. The nice thing
about having the ipad in the lid is that you can fold it all up together. We're
writing this message together. Wayne was thinking about figuring out some ways
to have the ipad placed in the lid to be more secure than it seems to be. If
you were really careful and you were using an ipad in the lid it would probably
be fine. Of course this will work with an ipad without placing it in the lid.In
spite of that we really like using our se phones with this keyboard. When the
keyboard is open, it's pretty think but really sturdy, the thickness is like
the thickness of holding 2 pocket slates pus half the thickness of a 3rd slate
so in other words the thickness of the keyboard is just a little less than the
thickness of 3 slates held together. The keyboard is so sturdy, either a thick
book board or board slate kind of sturdy, as in even a thick piece of wood.
It's so strong for something this thin it won't budge around as you're typing.
No flimsiness here. If you have any other questions just ask.

I get where Sieghard is coming from, but I'd suggest that he could have
just not assumed the worst and just asked some questions for more
information, such as "Before I click on anything could you tell us a
little bit more about ...?" Alternatively, he could have also just hit
the delete button. On the other side, I'd say Yuma could just try to
ignore the negativity in Sieghard's message and see that he is asking

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, is anyone interested in a podcast interview about how they see the

can't see as blind people in the sky. I have a podcast series that covers 3D
programming for audio, and related technologies.

I am co-founder of Oseyeris, and have been working on an app so I can

Second, I would like to invite you to test a star gazing app for the blind.

I am very interested in hearing your opinions about how stars should be represented,

Re: Accessibility of scribd and bookshare

2018-08-11 Thread Richard Turner
I had never heard of Scribd, so I cannot assist there.
Bookshare is a fabulous resource here in the United States!
I use VoiceDream Reader for Bookshare books. I too am surprised the books are
not available in the UK.
But, if the Marrakesh treaty does finally get enacted, Bookshare is the best
resource for books in my opinion. They often get the books from the publisher,
so they are available on bookshare the same time they are available in hard
copy.

Pam, where can you purchase the i clever keyboard? I've heard of it before
since other listers mentioned it. We got this portable fold up keyboard

not that sturdy and while it folds up to a smaller size it's kind of long,

oh thank you, thank you, thank you. Found the spot and the Alexa is now

Feel free to email me or you can call me using Facetime Audio and the email
address I gave above, at least I can listen and tell you if you hit the right
spot.

Good luck,

Sieghard

Yup, the black webb has the number keys at the top of the keyboard where number
keys usually are, and these number keys double as controls when you're
listening to audio and video media, such controls as play, rewind and so on.
It's a true apple keyboard so it doesn't have the function keys that you would
have on a window keyboard. This keyboard was designed to work with the ipad
mini, but it works so well with the se phones. We mainly navigate on the screen
with our fingers, but really like using this keyboard with the phone. It's a
very sturdy keyboard and is about the size of an ipad mini. The things we like
about it, the on and off switch, if the keyboard is off, if you accidentally
touch your keyboard it won't wake it up. For example if you had the keyboard
close by you at night, and I want my $400 clock to just tell me the time, I
just slide the little power button on, and then you just use your back and
forth arrow key so your $400 clock and calendar can tell you the time and date
from the clock and the calendar and if you wake up enough to read email and get
other notifications and more.

It says it was made for the ipad, but we use it with our se iphones, and

Thanks. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard, and am fine with it. I'll watch
prices as I don't want to spend $100 for certain on it. I'm seeing bluetooth
keyboards on Amazon for as low as $13.99, but the more expensive ones do
seem to be rated higher overall.

I think if the keys were round and about the size of my fingers that are

I think I'd prefer round, because there would, by necessity be a little more

Re: bluetooth keyboard recommendation

2018-08-11 Thread Arlene
Yup, the black webb has the number keys at the top of the keyboard where
number keys usually are, and these number keys double as controls when
you're listening to audio and video media, such controls as play, rewind
and so on. It's a true apple keyboard so it doesn't have the function keys
that you would have on a window keyboard. This keyboard was designed to work
with the ipad mini, but it works so well with the se phones. We mainly
navigate on the screen with our fingers, but really like using this keyboard
with the phone. It's a very sturdy keyboard and is about the size of an ipad
mini. The things we like about it, the on and off switch, if the keyboard is
off, if you accidentally touch your keyboard it won't wake it up. For
example if you had the keyboard close by you at night, and I want my $400
clock to just tell me the time, I just slide the little power button on, and
then you just use your back and forth arrow key so your $400 clock and
calendar can tell you the time and date from the clock and the calendar and
if you wake up enough to read email and get other notifications and more.

Travis, one of the bluetooth keyboards we have is the black webb keyboard.
It says it was made for the ipad, but we use it with our se iphones, and
it's really great to use with our phones, and you could buy it at Walmart
for $20. It's a very sturdy feeling keyboard, and we both enjoy typing on
it.

Thanks. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard, and am fine with it. I'll watch
prices as I don't want to spend $100 for certain on it. I'm seeing bluetooth
keyboards on Amazon for as low as $13.99, but the more expensive ones do
seem to be rated higher overall.

Re: cannot buy Kindle books using the Amazon app

2018-08-11 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I am sure Amazon would love to sell Kindle books through the Kindle and Amazon
apps, but they aren't willing to pay Apple I think it is about30 percent.
After all, Apple wants you to buy and read that book through IBooks.

As far as I've known, there hasn't been a button to purchase from the app ever.
The issue is that if an app sells something, then Apple gets a portion, and so
Amazon directs you to its website.

Bi14 experiences?

2018-08-11 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I have a humanware bei14 on loan for a week or two. I like the compactness, but
I just haven’t been able so far to get used to having so few cells. Especially
with word wrap I guess, where sometimes, several cells are blank because the
next whole word won’t fit on the line. I also don’t quite understand how the
notes feature works. I have entered both my Google and Comcast accounts into
the brailliant device. But I’m not sure what happens next. I have read the
manual. My other comment is that I preferred the keyboard on the older
humanware braille displays. The typing keys on this one are to my way of
thinking, mushy. I’m thinking I probably won’t buy it, but I do want to give it
a fair chance. I like the price, and I like the idea of having notetaking
ability which I could, or not, sync up with my phone. But I’m just not getting
the mechanics of it I guess.
Mary

webb keyboard. It says it was made for the ipad, but we use it with our se
iphones, and it's really great to use with our phones, and you could buy it at
Walmart for $20. It's a very sturdy feeling keyboard, and we both enjoy typing
on it.

Re: Voicedream Dropbox Issue

2018-08-11 Thread englishrider91
That's so weird! I have no issues with VDR and Dropbox. It's some other apps
that have issues with Dropbox for me, like Capti. It won't display things in
alphabetical order. VDR has no issues with this, though, or with missing files.
Strange. I get what people are saying about not wanting to delete the app,
though. I've been copying book titles with the 3-finger quadrupal tap and
putting the text into a long note in the Notes app. I'm doing this so that I
can turn off cloud sync. Ever since I turned that on, VDR have gotten extremely
sluggish, freezes a ton, and at the worst, dumps me back onto my home screen.
It's awful. I wish he'd come out with a feature to manually back up your
library to Dropbox, like you could with iTunes file sharing. I say manually
because with the cloud sync feature, something's always syncing and slowing VDR
down to glacial speeds. If doing it over iTunes file sharing actually worked,
I'd do it, but it doesn't. I get an empty library when I try. Anyhow, I hope
your Dropbox issue gets fixed.

Thanks,
Ari

Also sieghard,

If you don't have the intuition to click elsewhere from the contact form,
here's the website at the lab page:

https://www.oseyeris.com/the-lab

The lab page has a lot of info on how I went about working on the star gazing
app.

I'm just putting this in case people think I'm going to try and extort money
from them or whatever your assumptions are.

In this page will appear the blog and podcast on the star gazer, as a
discussion on how it can be made better, what features people would want
outside those I have thought out with my team, etc.

Cheers

2018-08-11 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi sieghard,

By definition a co founder is someone who founded a startup I'm the blind guy
in the duo, and I do all the different software architectures for the team. I
also do a podcast series on coding for 3D sound and audio using the swift
language and X-code. I'm based in Brisbane, and I think a few users on this
list know me, including Cara Quinn and mark.

I have been a member of macvisionaries since 2010 and this list has greatly
helped, especially in terms of mac stuff.

If you don't want to click on the link, and first check out what I actually do,
including the research to make this app possible, it's your right, but I'll ask
you not to start treating or accusing me of some kind of scam or bad intention
from the get go, as this is purely an invitation to test out an app that allows
blind people like myself to enjoy the skies in a few different and thoughtful
ways.

If you're the new turf boss of this mailing list, good on you. I'm just a
veteran here.

As far as I've known, there hasn't been a button to purchase from the app ever.
The issue is that if an app sells something, then Apple gets a portion, and so
Amazon directs you to its website.

As far as I've known, there hasn't been a button to purchase from the app ever.
The issue is that if an app sells something, then Apple gets a portion, and so
Amazon directs you to its website.

RE: Sonos problem

2018-08-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Marie, if you don’t have anybody you can ask or don’t use Be my Eyes send me an
email directly to siegh...@live.ca and we can set up a
time for a Facetime call and my wife can see if she can direct your finger to
push the right button.
Feel free to email me or you can call me using Facetime Audio and the email
address I gave above, at least I can listen and tell you if you hit the right
spot.

Good luck,
Sieghard

RE: podcast appearance

2018-08-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
First of all, you say you are co-founder of " Oseyeris", what exactly is that,
it isn't exactly a word that is descriptive in nature.
Also, you say you are passionate about astronomy and physics, but you don't
even start out your message by introducing yourself, you don't end with a
salutation including your name and you are soliciting support for your Podcast
and app without apparently having asked Mark or Cara if it is OK to do so.
Given how often one is "invited" to do something these days I am certainly not
clicking on your link to fill out a contact form and I hope others are smart
enough not to do so. If you had started with a proper introduction and a
sentence saying that you received permission from the list owner or moderator
to post this I might have felt differently.

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, is anyone interested in a podcast interview about how they see the
ssky as being, if they learn aspects of space, planets and other objects we
can't see as blind people in the sky. I have a podcast series that covers 3D
programming for audio, and related technologies.

I am co-founder of Oseyeris, and have been working on an app so I can
understand where the planets are, how they cycle around me in the real world,
as astronomy and physics are something I am passionate about.

Second, I would like to invite you to test a star gazing app for the blind.

Please follow this link, and put your name on the email list. if already
subscribed, your test flight will be sent very shortly.

I am very interested in hearing your opinions about how stars should be
represented, though I have laid out the initial audio "feel" of space.

Have a great day y'all

Re: Anyone here who uses the Google Inbox app?

2018-08-11 Thread Daniel McGee

Oh ok, I didn't know that. This could be why I felt like I was: fighting with
the app. Not understanding that in basic form, inbox is trying to create the
filters for me automatically rather than me customising them myself.

Would you say this is correct thinking on my part?

Out of interest, what do you use the Google Inbox app for in your email
Workflow?

the help documentation doesn't, well help answer my questions about in
getting to grips on some of the features of this app.

Of course though, if no one here is using it, then it feels rather

I have tried using the Select button and have had no luck with that

What am I missing? Please help this old dog learn a new trick.

podcast appearance

2018-08-11 Thread Yuma Decaux

I am very interested in hearing your opinions about how stars should be
represented, though I have laid out the initial audio "feel" of space.

https://www.oseyeris.com/contacts

Have a great day y'all
