sore finger and pressure
Sorry about that last partial post. I didn't mean to hit control enter. Anyway, as I was saying, the conversation about how little pressure you need in order to work with the IPhone got me thinking. I thought I was tapping gently, but I tried just the lightest touches, and was amazed how little pressure it actually takes to activate and work with apps. The baby cheek analogy made me re-work how I tap and flick. It may take a little while for me to get used to, but it's actually much easier and faster to touch softly. Very interesting. God bless! Hi, all. I have heard that it's important to always log out on your home computer from your facebook page when you're finished. Same for bookshare and other web pages. sifari problem
I am unable to get into safari. I can send and receive emails, but when I try to open safari it says that safari cannot open the page because the network connection has been lost. I've tried re-booting the phone holding down the home and screenlock buttons for 10 seconds two times. I've also just turned the phone off and on again. Hi all. Is there a way to paste text written within MBraille into another app. For example, can you write a note in MBraille and move it to your notes app, or can you write a reply in MBraille and paste it into the body of an email to reply to someone? To all who answered my MBraille question, thanks for the info. I have never used the edit function from the roter, so that bit of information was exactly what I needed to know. I have gone through the MBraille help file and listened to the HLLF podcasts which were excellent and helpful, but since I've never used the edit options on the phone, didn't even think to try those. weather in notifications
First of all, I just updated to IOS7 on my 4S and would like to thank all who have given such helpful information. I knew what to expect and how to deal with many things. Second, I think this may have been covered earlier, but I can't find it and my brain is on IOS 7 overload. Is there a way to have the temperature show up in the notifications center? white pages app question
Hi all. Is anyone using the white pages app? I used it a couple of times while running IOS 6 with some success. Since I upgraded I can't seem to get the search feature to work. I go into businesses, type an item to search and double tap the search button. It takes me to some sort of very unrelated advertisement. Any thoughts? Hi, All. I'm finding an odd subject line as I scroll down my viPhone email. I read: report failure Then the sender's name followed by recall failure: recall placing an order. When I open The email it just says something like cannot be recalled and gives the February 14 date. Might this indicate a problem with my computer or my email? Just wondering. I've just purchased the voice dream app. I found the bookshare prompt, enabled it, entered my bookshare email sign on and password. I was told that it was authenticated. When I double tapped the ok button it took me back to the screen that tells what bookshare is and says for more information go to www.bookshare.com. What am I missing? When I back out of the screenI'm back at the screen that gives all the options for ways to read like drop box, pocket, instapaper etc. I don't see an add button. I lost my calendar notifications after I did the update to 6.1.2. I had to go into the settings menu, then notifications, then swipe until I saw the calendar. For some reason it showed up in the no notifications area. I double tapped on it and tapped to turn it back on. All works fine now. HTH. God bless! Hi. I got this information from the list earlier in the week and thought, it's so simple I'll surely remember it. However, I didn't and can't find the email. I have successfully logged onto bookshare using voice dream. After I got the message authentication succeeded, I thought I could go back to the home screen and go to the search prompt and search for a book. Obviously, either I'm remembering incorrectly or I'm doing something else wrong. Also, is there a way to log out of bookshare when you're done. . I also can't find the book PRIDE AND PREJUDICE that's supposed to be available. Any help would be appreciated. Since I wasn't able to find the info on applevis, and I obviously don't remember quite correctly, I'll make sure to put your response in a place where I can refer back to it when needed. erasing a contact
Hi, all. In IOS 6 I could go into the edit field while on a contact and find a delete contact button which let me erase the complete contact. I can't seem to find one in IOS 7. On my 4S running IOS 6 I sometimes had this problem. I'd try to reply to an email or send a text and the keyboard simply wouldn't show up. The only way I found to re-establish the on-screen keyboard was to turn the phone off and wait a bit and turn it back on. That solved the problem every time. So far, I haven't had this happen with IOS 7. God bless! Hi, all. I would like to have an alert each time I get an email rather than having to go into my mail app to check it over and over. I can't seem to figure out where to do this in settings. Hi, all. I've found something in IOS 7 that I like very much. I use the timer this evening for the first time in a while. I found that I could check the status of the timer while it's running from the locked screen easily, and was able to find the button to stop the timer also on the locked screen quite easily. Hi, Tom and others. I had this happen periodically while running IOS 6. I never use a blue tooth keyboard, yet the on-screen keyboard would sometimes totally disappear. The solution for me was to turn the phone off, wait a little, then turn it back on. This worked every time. Hope this helps. God bless! I may have just shot myself in the foot! Re-downloading MBraille
Hi all. I need some advice before I re-download the MBraille app. I have had significant trouble getting the app to send texts from within the app. I have tried re-booting the phone holding down the home and lock button, and have tried turning the phone off and then on again. Neither worked. As a last resort I deleted MBraille and reinstalled it. When I go to the email on the menu screen I'm asked if I want to buy the app. I signed into my account and was asked if I was sure I wanted to buy the app for $29.95. I'm hoping I'm not going to be charged again for the app. I use this as my default keyboard, but don't really want to buy it twice. Any thoughts? Thanks. I really do want the app back! God bless! Hi, all. I have an IPhone 4S running IOS 7.02. I've noticed something odd in the last few days. When I open my mail app, if there are new messages I'm put into the first message and asked if I want to read or dismiss. If I tap on dismiss, then I'm taken to the next unread message and asked the same thing. Sometimes I just want to look at the name and subject line and then delete a message before opening it. Is there a setting I should change in order to not have my new emails opened automatically? I don't remember this happening when I first updated, but then again, my memory ain't what it used to be. sinking reminders with the alarmed app
To all who are using the alarmed app with IOS 7.02. When I ask Siri to set a reminder, it no longer sinks with the alarmed app automatically. Of course, I can set it up in alarmed, but it was nice to have the native reminders app sink with alarmed. Is anyone else noticing this? Is there something I could or should do to make this happen?I'm more than willing to contact the developer, but couldn't find any contact information on the website. Thanks for any thoughts. There is an app called tempo perfect. Some of the buttons are unlabeled, but it is accessible. I haven't used it much lately. I found the ticks hard to hear if you're playing along, so use a small speaker. That seems to work. God bless! apple forcing updates yet again
Hi, everyone. A coworker has an IPhone 5 running IOS 6. She does not want to update right now. Yesterday someone was helping her with her phone, and the phone asked if she wanted to update. The only option was ok. There appears to be no way to get out of that screen. We tried re-setting the phone by holding down the lock and home button for 10 seconds and just turning the phone off and back on again. There still seemed to be no way to get out of the update prompt. Going into the app switcher still didn't work. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm disappointed to see this with no option to cancel. Hi, Lelia. Have you taken a look at blind square. It's significantly cheaper than the Sendero GPS and seems to be pretty good. I've just started working with it, and so far am impressed. By all means buy it if you're on the fence, but my personal recommendation is that it's more than a little overblown. If you use Ariadne GPS with a combination of WhereTo or Around Me, and pair these up with Google MAPS or Apple's own Maps app, you'll be more than good to go without spending more than twenty bucks. I would venture to suggest that even Sendero's Look Around app could help. Me, I'm hoping I'll be able to get a refund. aids. The device goes through the iCom which we wear around the neck. It then transmits the music or audio directly to our aids. These are very nice. The bad news is that not all of us can use this and it is not cheap at all. Plus, as much it is great for the audio. They really suck when it comes to music. They also put a huge drain on the battery in your aids. Lastly, they have the older Bluetooth technology which has a slight lag between your devices to your aids. So there you have it. Those are the experiences that I have had. None of them give me the perfect experience I would want in a headphones. So also keep in mind that I have the Around the Ear style aids. So it can vary if you have the In the Ear aids as well. If that is the case then the Around the Ear headphones that have an empty cone inside of them may be your best choice. The flat On the Ear kind would give you that feedback that I had mentioned with my Around the Ear headphones. I have had this happen from time to time. I don't use a Bluetooth keyboard, but always use the on-screen keyboard or siri. When I lose my keyboard I shut the phone down completely, wait a couple of minutes, and turn it back on and the keyboard's magically back. Hope this helps. God bless! Tap tap see is probably the most useful app I have. I use it to read medicine bottles, canned foods, frozen bags of vegetables, to check the colors of my clothing, and much more. I think it's almost as good as having a sighted person around. My husband, who is also blind, says he agrees and it's cheaper too. You don't have to feed it. God bless! I had exactly the same thing happen with my 4S running ios 7.03 last night. Holding down the home and lock buttons for 10 seconds fixed it. Very strange. I tried using SIRI and got no audio feedback. I tried plugging the phone in even though I know the battery is about three quarters full. I did here the phone tell me the battery was at 75% and charging and then the phone went silent again. I tried pressing the home button and flicking the mute switch and the phone didn't vibrate. I've also tried using Bluetooth headphones and an external Bluetooth speaker which have been paired with the phone for a while but I'm still not hearing noises or speech. I now have the phone connected to my PC and according to iTunes, all is well, I made sure VO was running through the configure accessibility menu, but still no speech. I did feel the phone vibrate about 2 minutes ago, but I'm not sure what this means as the battery isn't finished charging. I've tried using my Bluetooth keyboard to mute/unmute, but still nothing. I've tried the triple click home several times and haven't gotten any speech at all after that initial announcement of the charging battery. I also tried the three finger double tap and heard no indication of speech being turned on or off. I don't think this is a case of volume being turned down as I could hear the phone just fine when it talked last. I haven't dropped the phone or dropped my Bluetooth keyboard; the phone was just sitting on my nightstand so I have no clue what caused this. Like I said, it was working fine yesterday and once earlier this morning. I have no sighted help here and won't have any for a couple of days. I think I have the same app. It's called I emergency plus. The plus is written as the plus sign from the more symbols keyboard and the whole thing is written with no spaces. There's a way to get it as wall paper on the phone, too. It's fully accessible. I don't remember the cost, but it wasn't much. You can put your ICE contacts, your medical information and your doctors' names in it. God bless! odd behavior with texting and pasting from the clipboard
I'm having a strange problem. I use MBraille for most of my keyboard work. Starting last Wednesday or Thursday I have had difficulty sending a text using MBraille. When I send a message in the usual way using the on-screen keyboard the text sends, but when I send from within the MBraille app it's very random. If I turn the phone off and then on again I can send a few texts from the app, then not again. Today there's another wrinkle that makes me wonder if it's a phone problem rather than just an MBraille issue. I wrote an email using MBraille, and went into an email I was replying to. My plan was to paste the email into the message and send it that way. When I went to the edit area using the rotor there was no paste option. I turned the phone off and on again, then held the home and lock button for ten seconds to reboot the phone. There still is no paste prompt. The select all and select and all that other stuff shows up, but not the paste. When I went back to check to make sure there was still text in the MBraille app the text was still there. I'm using an IPhone 4S running IOS 7.04. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks. I'm also sending this to the MBraille list in hopes that someone will have an answer. figured out at least part of my MBraille and pasting problem
Hi, all. Well, I realized why I couldn't paste from the MBraille app to an email. In order to help solve the texting issue I uninstalled and reinstalled MBraille. I didn't realize that I had to go back and also reinstall the paid version. I did that and all works fine. So far the texting issue seems to be solved also. Yea!!! general question about the weather radio app and push notifications
Several people on this list have mentioned a weather radio app that allows alerts to be set up. I saw 2 weather radio apps in the app store. One was the NOAA weather radio app that costs $4.95. weather radio app
Hi. I'm having no luck with the NOAA weather radio app. The weather radio station that is closest to where I live won't play. I double tap the city name, then I swipe right to something that says zero percent adjustable, adjust that to 100 percent and double tap the play button. Voice over says pause, so I assume it's a toggle. Nothing happens. If I go to other stations and play they seem to work, so this one might not be operator error. I see the pause button on the screen and something that says NaN dimmed. Then I see main and favorites. Nothing else. Also I can't seem to set up the counties I want severe storm alerts for. Any help would be appreciated. I tried writing the support team, but forgot to mention that I'm using voice over, so their directions weren't helpful. My bad on that one. I've found that talking tuner works reasonably well, especially in a quiet room. I am able to tune my flute before church, though, and there is a fair amount of talking in the background. It takes some patience to get instruments exactly in tune using it though. I found it very helpful when tuning an autoharp. God bless! finding the updates in the app store
Hi, all. I just updated my 4 s phone to ios 6. When I go to the store and tap on the updates button at the bottom of the screen, it says there are 4 updates, but I can't find them. I always use Siri to schedule a reminder. It seems to work fine. I say: set a reminder for ... date, time and subject of reminder and I've had no problem. unlocking orientation
I know this has been covered before, but we have a new computer and all my archived material is not on it, so here's my simple question. I want to unlock the orientation of my phone so I can try text detective. I went to the app switcher, did a 3 finger flick to the right to get to page one, then looked for the unlock button. All I can find is the volume button and the dismiss app switcher prompt. What am I not doing? I checked in the applevis website and couldn't find the answer, so any help is appreciated. Hi, all. I would like to remove addresses from my gmail address book. I put them in when I first got the phone and they are incorrect. I have not added them to my contact list, though, so don't know how to get rid of and correct them. Also, When I send email to anyone at work the phone says that this doesn't appear to be a valid email address. That address doesn't have a dot net or dot com at the end of it. I've made two different lists, a shopping list for general stuff and a grocery list for, obviously, groceries. This is the first time I've tried to purchase an app, and I'm having nothing but frustration. I had to enter my password 3 different times, then was asked for my credit card type. When I tried to double tap to check the correct card type it still stayed unchecked no matter what I did. The first time through the card type was correct so I tried to complete the form. Just wondering if anyone has had this experience. I can use serie 3 or 4 times in a row, then the next time I press the listen button it doesn't sound the tone and serie doesn't respond. The tactile markings on our screen protectors are for typing (the locations where the letters are on the virtual keyboard are marked,) as well as orientation. So for example, I have the standard layout on my phone because I do a lot of typing on my phone, and prefer to not have an external keyboard all the time. But when I'm not in text messaging, email, or any other app where the virtual keyboard is visible, the dots on the screen can also help me quickly find where a particular folder is on a certain page. So in my case for instance, because of how I have my phone organized, I know that the messaging app is located where the letter Q is on the virtual keyboard. If I don't want to swipe around my screen, I can just go to it. Obviously that's not something that would apply to everyone, because it's dependent on how your screen is organized, but that's how I've used it. In other apps, like Heytell for instance, I use the markings where the letters are as a means of orienting so that I can quickly find the select contacts button. If you do use a tactile screen protector, (and perhaps other users can also attest to this fact,) you really can do such orientation within other aps or for locations of folders etc on the screen. Also, standard iPhone controls in both our standard and advanced models are marked, so for instance, if you're in mesaging, you can easily locate the compose, send, add from address book, and cancel icons. As someone who had a hell of a time dragging apps into folders, I also find that the screen protector helps me for that. It helps me to go straight, and also I can have a reference point on the screen where the folder I want is located. I hope this makes sense. anyone who plays kings corner
Well, here I am again, having fun with games but being pretty clueless, too. I'm having difficulty moving cards from one place to another in kings corner. I know the suits are alternating and understand stacking from larger down to smaller, but sometimes it seems like I should be able to stack say, an ace of diamonds onto a 2 of spaids, but can't get the ace to go there.
