The baptismal record of someone born in 1772 on Santa Maria Island said the
father Was a " MARIANTE".
I googled it on Wikipedia and it's the Portuguese Marine Corp. So I guess in
1772 this person was a member of the Portuguese Navy. The Portuguese Marine
