Hi,
As a SDR1000 newbee, I'ld like to know if the next hardware generation will
provide an USB connectivity rather than the old parallel port and it's USB
to // fancy optional adapter.
My main usage of my SDR is Expedition with a laptop, no serial, no parallel
ports but a lot of USB and at least
Hi,
John of Flex-Radio asked for continued comments on the 1 W version.
There are also other ways for Flex-Radio to keep inventory low and to know
what potential Flexers want without need to look into the crystal ball.
Hams interested in a 1 W version could write their name and approximate

Dave,
you'll have the same trouble using either DeOxit red or Gold on the
stainless-steel mini-plug [HOSA]. I tried them all. In order to
eliminate the oxidation that occurs over time between the plug and jack
you'd be best advised to re-terminate the cables with 3.5mm gold-plated
plugs. I

Greetings,
I noticed another flexer mention that his noise gate setting was -23db, mine
is set at about -30db. I thought both figures were quite high. When I
transmit I notice my reading in the panadapter is about half scale when I'm
silent (if that makes any sense) and when I speak it goes
I have a new (unopened) Griffin Power Mate for $40 including shipping
anywhere in the lower 48. I also have a new never used Turtle Beach Santa
Cruz sound card for $30 including shipping anywhere in the lower 48. Both
for $65 including shipping. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Sounds like you may have the soundcard/Mic Gain/Mic Boost settings too high.
Try lowering the gain and you should notice the noise floor on transmit
drops.

Just a thanks to whomever it was that suggested using dryer softener
sheets for replacement of the front fan filters. Not only does the shack
smell better but my signal has a softer dryer quality that is a real
plus! ;o)
Aside .. they do work nice!

I use bounce sheets for my filters... smells good and gives you that

Do they make them in different scents? I'd like a variety such as:
1) The aroma of chicken being fried.
2) BBQ Beans.
3) Scent of a good

No, It seems things are working about right. My noise gate is set at
-30dB.
And your display seems to be normal as far as I can discern. I will pass
along my SSB setup but in no way should it be considered the optimum... I
use a Heil Pro Set with an HC-5 element.

I think my microphone level may be too high as stated by Eric. Strangely no
matter how high I set it it does not distort. Getting the microphone meter
to read 0 on voice peaks has been very tricky for me. Anyway I'm picking up
a Heil PR-20 this week so I'll see how it sounds with the Flex.
Mine appears as a rippled flattop. Perhaps I can send you a screenshot.
Reminds me of Devils Tower in Wyoming.

W5LUA and I were just chatting about the waterfall display in PowerSDR.
Right now it covers the audio bandwidth of the selected filter.
It would be really neat if you could use the waterfall display to view the
entire bandwidth of the sound card, i.e. 48 KHz, 96 KHz etc.
What would that

It took a while, but I finally was given the clues to hear the wave files in

So now...I'd appreciate it if someone had a long cw file and a long rtty/pse

I have those from the Flex site

Right now it is limited to just the filter (much like our entire display
used to be). The long term plan is to enable the full width display for all
modes (not just spectrum). So Waterfall, Histogram, etc will have modes
similar to the current panadapter. All of that is coming, but it is

FLAC.
It would be nice to have a time/position counter in the playback,
and have the possibility to cut some parts out of a long wave file.

Thanks for hints, Frank
I googled them
Flac: lossless comp, 50%, still bigger than 500MB ;-(
Audacity: have to try, I am afraid that the codec does not like
IQ .wav files. I think that an other extension should have been
better for the IQ-files, even if they use (part of) the wav definition
Hi Larry,
I asked for this on 1/13/2006. The work-around I
use is to mouse click on the signal, then Ctrl and
the Up / Down Arrow keys to jump to the nearest.
You can roll the mouse wheel or Ctrl Left / Right
arrow to adjust the Tune Step.
It does tie up two hands, though.

Hello,
I just ordering a FA-66 for my SDR-1000.
My computer is a Dell laptop Inspiron 600m without
a firewire port.
Is there a list of recommended firewire cards for
laptop computers? On the knowledge base
I only see cards for desktops.
I notice there are both 400 (1394a) and 800 (1394b)
Everett,
I have no direct experience with PCMCIA Firewire cards, but I do know
that the FA-66 is a 1394a device and you need a 1394a adapter. Some
adapters now are coming with both an A and B version ports on the same
adapter. The physical port geometry is different for the different

I have used the ADS Pyro 1394 PCMCIA firewire card for years. However, I
used it for video editing (Avid Newscutter and ExpressDV) to connect the DV
camera to the computer. Not sure about audio-only applications.
