One other very important thing about converting layouts to PDFs. Do not use
PDFWriter. Print to file using a color postscript driver (not the distiller
PPD) and then use Distiller to convert it to PDF. The resulting file will

While I agree that pdf is an effective an efficient format, I have noticed
some problems. These all apply to Acrobat 3.0 and not necessarily 4.0:
1. Very complex files, such as contour maps produced with vertical mapper,
leave artifacts (e.g. horizontal and vertical lines) after converting to
pdf
The rough bitmap problem can be solved if you use a postscript printer
driver to create a .ps (I like the HP 8500) file and use Distiller to create
the PDF.
Distiller's options default to resampling bitmaps to 72 dpi. Turn that
nasty thing off. Set the output resolution to 400 dpi for the PDF i

If you have Mapinfo 5.0 or 5.5 you can use the ArcLink feature under the
Tools menu. If you have a previous version you can't do it. I think there
are a couple of programs on the mapinfo-l website that converts e00 files
into tab or mif files.
