Thiago Motta, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development

I have a dell vostro 1710, with the O2 sdcard reader as well, I had a

found this workaround in fedora forums, works half by half, e.g. works
when sdcard not inserted on boot.
You must add those lines to one of the *.conf files in the
etc/modprobe.d folder, I believe it would be dist.conf.
Do this by typing the following into konsole. (substitute gedit with text

This situation doesn't seem to have changed, even though there has been another
release of the Kernel, now 3.0.0-15.25, I'm not sure exactly what this change
was supposed to cover but built in SD Card readers don't seem to be consided
as standard. Does this also apply to built in web-cams and
I'm having the same problem with my SD card reader. It actually doesn't
allow my system to shutdown or restart when I have it inserted into my
laptop. When I hard boot it, it freezes at the Gateway logo screen with
the SD card inserted. It doesn't move from that screen.

In my frustration I purchased a USB Card Reader and that permits me to read the
SD cards (and others) via a USB port, so the problem must be not seeing or
identifying the hardware but I'm not sure how to confirm this. I have tried
looking at some settings in the terminal but am not sure where
I have tried looking at the kernel.org site but though it seems to be active
(the last date quoted seems to be 25 Nov 2011) but I can't see any search
facility and the numbers may be latest releases not that used by Ubuntu. Any
help would be nice, copying photo files from the SD card in Windows
Thanks for letting us know, I was a bit worried I was getting the problem
confused with something else.

@jbelton1950 i dont think the mentioned bug is related because the card

Somewhere (I can't find the link) I've read an workaround:
1. Turn off the pc
2. Insert the SD card in the reader
3. Turn on the pc
4. Use it
This works for me, but you can imagine that it isn't a good solution.

Hi, i tested with kernels 3.0.4, 3.0.6 and 3.1rc9 and all of then has
this same problem. I had to reinstall the system from my previous posted
info because some custom changes i made where causing the system to
crash at boot and i didnt had time to troubleshoot, it was quicker for

My apport-collect (run from comand line or vi gui) runs forever and dont
send the info.
If there is any other way to get the info you guys require please let me
know.
Thanks.
