Why not just turn on Airplane Mode and turn the volume down a bit so in case
you accidently press the side button and the phone speaks the time it's not so
others can hear it.

I find the easiest thing to do to silence one’s phone is to first flip the
switch to mute then do a 3 finger double tap to turn off voice over. I find
this much easier than changing a setting. When out of the meeting, simply do
another 3 finger double tap to turn v

There are two problems. One: the IPod Touch 4 doesn't have a mute switch. Two:
I don't want to mute my music; only VO sounds. :)
