RE: [313] RE:dodgy Canton promoters
Yeah but who says 'The Scene' is ruined. It's a fact: Since the 70's whatever party scene you're into has taken a dive across the board over the past 20 years. That Detroit 'Black Thang' ain't ever going to happen again I don't think unless America as to face something like WW III to kick off the collective party scene and get people's minds really motivated. Also, I don't think the new generations are as social as they used to be. Poing being, I don't think there is any one thing that's screed things up, it's alot of different social variable. In adition, the music isn't nearly as good as it used to be. I hate to say it but Tonic's got excellent PARTY music. Some of that other stuff is to complicated and weird. Although I love it to death, I can certainly see why it would draw a real party crowd. You can only take things so far. Truth is, although, I'm going downstairs to spin some straight up 140BMP techno, I'd rather be at a party at Tonic or Club Network than at a techno genre party. Partying to me is about much more than the music; it's about a happy vibe. This type of vibe was born out of more mainstream stuff but has been lost with the creation of scenes which don't promote partying, they promote egos. I'm done. There was this one wide eyed kid from somewhere like Ohio who told me Paul Oakenfold is gonna play as a suprise. I had to explain to him a few things, like, dude, trust me, that ain't gonna happen. It was disconcerting coming from an Australian. But US ravers are far less annoying than ours. I was actually quite impressed by the calibre of the US raver. Say what you like! At least they were getting down to Kenny Larkin and K Hand. actually about one out of ten people i met that weekend trying to get them to sign the petition. one out of five were pissed because there was no progressive house. go figure. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

They were getting down to K. Larkin and K. Hand because they weren't given any way out! (Those were GREAT sets, weren't they :) Actually I felt the raver quotient was less annoying at the DEMF this year. Maybe it was the weird weather, or just that everyone knew better how to meld with the actual scene of Hart Plaza, rather than go through the motions of kids-in-dark-warehouses-wearing-candee. I'm still waiting for the truly great set that makes *everyone* go wooo! Some have come close, but nobody has claimed the prize yet. You all know what I mean ... Re: [313] dodgy Canton promoters
You're not gonna get really amazing sets until the space between the crowd and DJ is worked out. This is one of few things I had a problem with at the DEMF. It's nothing to do with the DJs, the music, but the set-up. You need the right setup to create a vibe. That's why the after parties were so special, they were intimate andyou could feel it. I even liked St Andrews Hall, at least you can see and feel. DJs like Kenny, Stacey and Laurent are very interactive (I only say these as I have seen they play really memorable sets). You couldn't even see Stacey's face because of some wack banner at the stage near the river (forgot its name - was it Motor?) and watching dude is such a treat. Unless they borrow some of DJ Rush's platform boots or something. Plus in the arena they need to use those screens. It was a set up for a rock star, not DJ culture. My favourite stage was the one that Eddie Fowkles and Alton Miller played on as it was close to the people and almost at their level. Or even the underground one. Re: [313] dodgy Canton promoters
Hmmm, although I will agree that set up is important, I also feel that the dj should be able to play and be interactive with crowds whatever set up is there. Rock star or no rock star. Think about any other huge, open-air event. You gotta rock! The real problem is the damn screen playing film loops instead of projecting what the performer is doing and/or djs who can't keep the groove going in a open-air set up (i.e. jim masters). g. P.S. Cy, I owe you a email...been crazy busy. Cyclone Wehner wrote: You're not gonna get really amazing sets until the space between the crowd and DJ is worked out. But US ravers are far less annoying than ours. I was actually quite impressed by the calibre of the US raver. Say what you like! At least they were getting down to Kenny Larkin and K Hand. if you are talking about ravers then they were well educated. i agree here with lauryn, you got to know your past, not to have some big respect and serve better. from that knowleg you create your musical taste. at the end i comfort my self, by looking in my parents, in their youth they were ravers, rockers in full, nice music dont know nothing about it and at the and, they were just stop listening . and ok. today i see ravers like people that have to belong somewhere in society, after some time, when they find them self, they not gonna care anymore who is carl craig, and who is paul oakenfold.(when that happens ill be happiest man on earth). so why do you people care about them? and about musical knowlege, i live and play in croatia, first time i have oportunity to talk with someone about music was last year with robert(marlek from the list), and this year in Zadar with some guy from NYC. b. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] Ravers; was dodgy Canton promoters
||so why do you people care about them? Exactly.. My discovery of electronic music in general, and techno in particular, really had nothing to do with raves. I would go to hear music I liked, and ended up partying and meeting new people - *not* the other way around. I would still be listening to the same music I do now had I never been to a single rave. Here in the midwest US it's very rare to see a techno artist on the bill for a rave. [There's a calendar of midwest events at http://www.mw-raves.org/calendar/cal - for the curious.] When it does happen and I reluctantly decide to go I'm usually disappointed. For example, a couple of months ago in Columbus there was a rave called Polarity with Stewart Walker, Todd Sines, Titonton Duvante all doing live PA's. The promoter had all the live acts on one of the crappiest sound systems imaginable [we jokingly decided they had found it on the side of the road], in a side room with the vendors and maybe 50 ppl, while no-name locals played progtrance/etc for the raver majority on the main system upstairs. That's basically what raves are to me: A crappy venue, filled with disinterested kids, that I sometimes put up with to hear the music I like. Other than that, in my opinion not only did the rave scene die [most likely from an overdose] years ago, it has nothing at all to do with Detroit techno. It's an arrangement I can live with. -tjw __ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Re: [313] Ravers; was dodgy Canton promoters

Re: [313] Track ID Please?!!
Christian Bloch wrote: i really need to know this too, it's driving me crazy not to be able to remember the name of this one Paul: Can someone Identify this track for me??! Please dont make fun of me, as it's an old one I probably should know... http://www.paxahau.com/sounds/2001/iapril/04-21-01_kennylarkin_motor.ram The track is 35:53 into the file Fix - 'Flash' on KMS. And speaking of Orlando Voorn, he was recently listed on the DJ lineup of a new rb club opening in The Hague here in the Netherlands. I knew he was a musical omnivore, but that was still a bit of a surprise. I don't know if he just spins it or also produces it, but it'd certainly be interesting to hear his take on rb.
