Memo from Alex Bond of PricewaterhouseCoopers Start of message text Hello. Thanks very much to all the people who have made very nice comments about our record, we really appreciate it, and to be honest, the things people have said have made it all worthwhile. Without this list, this record almost certainly wouldn't have happened. So I want to say a big thank you to all the people who have offered advice, support and everything. *ahem* now for the promo bit... It's not actually properly out yet, but I know the distributors have been selling them. I think if you go to the Smallfish website, there are some clips on there. As for shops that have them, I really don't know at the mo. The only places I know that definitely have them are Smallfish, Piccadilly Records (Manchester), Pelican Neck/Boomkat. I think Kompakt distribution in Germany have took some, and I think Rushhour have taken some (not sure though...), but it will probably filter through eventually I hope. Again, thanks to all the (313) heads Alex, Dunc, Dave + Mark (have you left the planet?!) henrique casanova [EMAIL PROTECTED] on 01/11/2002 02:50:28 To:313@hyperreal.org cc: Subject:Re: (313) ourtimemusic can we listen to it from a streaming or something? - Original Message - From: Matthew MacQueen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Cc: marsel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2002 2:39 PM Subject: RE: (313) ourtimemusic big prop for the new label ourtimemusic, from fellow list member alex bond side a brings a smooth, dancefloor friendly stuff! going pretty dubby bc-string style, funky guitar loop, with larkin-styled spacey 313-styled chords - smooth stuff! yes this IS THE CUT! Re: Fwd: Re: (313) Madchester
LCD Soundsystem is James Murphy, half of DFA Records (with Tim Goldsworthy, cofounder of MoWax who's been in New York the last few years). The flip of Losing My Edge is Beat Connection, which you can hear along with other DFA stuff at: http://www.epitonic.com/labels/dfarecords.html Beat Connection is also a good tune, with a cool/annoying vocal, but Losing My Edge is a classic novelty tune along the lines of Sandwiches (different subject line, but equally catchy). They are starting to call this stuff underground rock, but it reminds me a lot of Nu Groove and reeeal early Strictly with that throw-it-in-the-blender raw production style. Weh kewl... phred

(313) Is this cheesy?
www.evtacon.co.uk/sounds/aquafolde.mp3 I made this track over two years ago. I came back to it the following day a decided that it was really cheesy and that I shouldn't ever show it to anyone. A friend last week found it while rummaging through some mini disks and said that he really liked it and that it wasn't cheesy! Now I think he maybe casting a bit of a friends opinion so I put it to you, the mighty 313 list to decide. Is it Cheesy? I leave it to you! thanks max

x-102 - is that rings of saturn ? that's the one! the whole X-102 concept and the way that they ran with it - from the track names, to the style of music, to the way the records were cut, to the inscriptions within the grooves - mean that imho this is an absolute must-have classic 313 release. hey rob! i love x-102 but i gotta admit i think some of the music is pretty dated. well maybe it was never totally my thing, the inscriptions etc are dope tho..maybe i'm high on candy corn.. top 5 tresor's i am dying to see re-released :P : tresor 003! eddie fowlkes detroit-berlin 2x12 tresor 007! blake baxter eddie fowlkes the project 2x12 -never heard this afaik, only wisdom which was on true spirit..? tresor 008! eddie fowlkes 3mb technosoul was cd only? tresor 013 detroit techno soul 12 (w/kelli's mystery from true spirit, plus rare shake, kech, and A.E.S.(!)) tresor 049 eddie fowlkes black technosoul was cd only?! i guess i'm a freak for fowlkes but damn most of that stuff is timeless to me, it's got so much soul and stands up extremely well against current technosoul/ deep techno whatever, can still teach it a thing or two... i cant believe some of that stuff was cd only... jt _ Surf the Web without missing calls! tresor 008! eddie fowlkes 3mb technosoul was cd only? I had it on vinyl but lost it and it is one of my favourite records ever. I think a remix of My Soul came out quite recently so maybe it's on the cards. No Work Today is true technosoul. Tracks are, My Soul, Computeee, Move me, Tribal Joy, The Golden Apple, Image-A-Nation and Hoodlum Child. Any ideas as to which one this is (possibly Tresor 008?) My soul is still probably my favourite EFF track... Sven

JT: i love x-102 but i gotta admit i think some of the music is pretty dated. yeah, that's a fair call... a good few of the early UR records haven't necessarily stood the test of time too well from a musical standpoint. regardless, i still think X-102 is a classic release. everything about the way they executed the idea was on the money. well maybe it was never totally my thing, the inscriptions etc are dope tho.. yeah, and as KJ mentioned the way that the vinyl was cut to replicate or model the rings of Saturn is such an amazing idea - an incredibly creative approach to realising the X-102 concept. maybe i'm high on candy corn.. heheh, there's definitely that possibility mate. i'm fairly confident i've had way too many cups of tea so far today, and all that caffeine can't be a good thing. ;) rob _ Get a speedy connection with MSN Broadband. Memo from Alex Bond of PricewaterhouseCoopers Start of message text WOW. It took me years to find out anything about this wicked old band. I was just looking on the deephousepage and came across this link. It seems they're re-issuing *that* LP (you know, the one that Carl Craig, Kirk Degiorgio etc sampled). Which is good I guess. (except for the price of my LP, which I guess has now just plummeted..) : ) http://www.liaisonsdangereuses.de/li/index.htm But - if you don't know this band, or don't have the LP, check it... RE: (313) old tresors
kj: Someone told me that the vinyl version of Rings of Saturn also has the tracks cut at a scaled size as the actual rings of saturn. ánd that they based the sound of the track on the metrial of the ring. each ring apparently has a different substance, and they tried to reflect that in the sound. [i think i got this from odwo keshun's book, can't even recollect the title right now, so all of the above might have been my own immagination. i'll look it up when i get home.] jurren _ Unlimited Internet access -- and 2 months free! No 56. I don't know why it is tragic. These are all POPULAR commercial DJs who have been voted for by the people. She's a tarty UK 'ard 'ouse DJ who gets a lot of gigs based on her rather ropey and tawdry looks. And I'm not being sexist as this seems to be the case for a lot of young male trance/ hard house DJs too. -Original Message- From: Martijn de Blaauw [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 01, 2002 1:57 PM To: Robert Taylor; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) 100 BEST DJ IN THE WORLD oops, should have looked a bit better..sorry! Last night I got home and switched on Radio 4 - it's the new Environ - and the leading Edge science show was discussing Terry Riley's Sun Rings composition for the Kronos Quartet. It's based on some sounds obtained from plasma waves in and around earth. The bit I caught was about these waves being thrown up by the Earth's electromagnetic fields and travelling to the poles. Higher frequencies arrive before lower ones so the recording have this sliding sound. It's eerie as. But the Jupiter ones (jovial? har har) are melodic and rhythmic. It all sounded superb. This sort of meaningless rubbish used to annoy me as well, but you have to see it for what it is. The chart is compiled based on readers votes, so rather than being a true chart of the the best DJs in the world, its really just an indication of what DJ magazine's readers are generally into, basically cheesy commercial house and trance, on the whole, with the odd token techno head who is able to throw in a few predictable names like Clarke, Mills and Hawtin into the hat. If the same magazine was to carry out an indepedent chart based on nothing more than a DJ's skills rather than just what overexposed DJ happens to get the majority of plastic clubbers 'jumpin' after 10 pints of Stella or a handfill of moody pills every saturday night...then you know the list would be quite different. Read it, laugth, then bin it. On the subject of Eddie Fowlkes, surprised noone has mentioned the two tracks he dropped on the True People album, TMF 60 and 61. Radio 4 is what makes the UK worth living in. I listen to nothing else on the radio. I'm deadly serious on both counts. After that there was Melvyn Bragg's In Our Time, which is ace too, but I had guests. It's a right laugh round mine, believe me: later on I settled down to read up on Donald Davidson and finish Ovid's Metamorphoses. With a glass of Lagavulin and my cat. I may look 17 on the outside, but I'm about 60 on the inside. In any case, I have to listen to Radio 4 in order to pick up those secret Oxbridge codes I was taught when I did that how to run the country class for Mods.

On the subject of Eddie Fowlkes, surprised noone has mentioned the two tracks he dropped on the True People album, TMF 60 and 61. Two of my favouriate Fowlkes tunes and always mixed into eachother really well! yeah too right...i'd forgotten them...brilliant robin...
(313) a message from shawn
UK 313, Shawn asked me to forward this little note to the list on his behalf: From: shawn rudiman Save Address | Headers To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 00:41:10 -0500 Subject: post this to 313 please hi, i'd like to personally invite any and all techno enthusists or cats who have even by mistake purchased my records. if you're in london on nov 15th please feel free to come by and see the set. it's a LIVE set. no tapes, no dats, no samples, no mp3s, mo audio tracks playing back in anyway shape or form. sequencers, synthesizers and drum machines are what make up my set. and all are programmed on the fly in realtime. it's soulful, pumping and can go anywhere from ambient to overthe top drums. depends on my mood and the crowd. so please feel free to come experience it first hand and please do come tell me your thoughts afterwards. i'd like to hear them. i'll try not to dissapoint anyone. peace. shawn rudiman -- ___ Get your free email from http://www.ign.com Powered by Outblaze

(313) Amsterdam November 13th and Beyond
I second the motion for Information for what's going on, only earlier in the month, I have someone I know who will be going to Amsterdam for the first time of his life, and would like to get into something deep or underground, if that still exists. He's a particular fan of Booty, but any impressive club/bar will do. Also any opinions on where a GREEN American should go or not go will also be appreciated. I was in Amsterdam myself for a few days a couple years ago for the ADE, but I was so busy, and trying to see everything, I couldn't remember one beginning of a street name before Strat to give much guidance. Plus any info outside of this on Hardcore or Break core in or around Amsterdam, or Holland for that matter would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Steve
RE: (313) 100 BEST DJ IN THE WORLD....
so in that respect, is trance the biggest its been? or is Teisto playing other tunes as well..sorry to ask and its off topic as I mention Trance but I am intrigued as it seems history is repeating itself as it does with war etc...cos if it is then may be it woould explain why Techno ( like in DJ mag ) is getting more exposure now as this could be next? Does anyone feel that Techno is slightly aquirign that hip thing to do at the mo. like being into Techno. Someone mentioned Radio 1 saying Fergie was a Techno DJ, ah my sympathy goes out to you ( I think it was you Marc or Johnnny) :) hey maybe someone should sample it and add like Fergie thinks he's a Techno DJ the air that to the nations :) Sorry it Friday and I am rambling but I feel after being up since 5 I have to say these things :) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 01 November 2002 15:17 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) 100 BEST DJ IN THE WORLD This sort of meaningless rubbish used to annoy me as well, but you have to see it for what it is. (313) Fowlkes
My favorite was always Electricity (?) on his 430 West release ... All this talk of EFF has reminded me of a long-overdue project: I wanted to have a bio/discography page for Eddie on the 313 Web site. He's overlooked so often, maybe something like this will help balance things out. Anyone who wants to send reviews, links, CD or vinyl scans, reply to me privately. -d p.s Yes, I know the CD gallery needs updating ... :)

Re: (313) 100 BEST DJ IN THE WORLD....
Hi everyone Just joined the list, seems like a good source of info... so in that respect, is trance the biggest its been? This seems weird as I really thought trance had had its day. I mean it was massive in 1999-2000 at least in the UK but now, it doesn't seem that big at all. And whoever mentioned Vitalic, his EP is excellent techno IMO. Not to be lumped in with the likes of Fischerspooner under the electroclash tag... Erik

It's got a magnificient chaotic noise. First time I heard it played by Richie Hawtin and it really sounded something special. A sort of discordant noise that seemed pretty unique to me. -Original Message- From: Robert Taylor [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 01 November 2002 16:20 To: 'Erik Jälevik'; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) 100 BEST DJ IN THE WORLD Pony rocks -Original Message- From: Erik Jälevik [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 01, 2002 4:19 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) 100 BEST DJ IN THE WORLD Hi everyone Just joined the list, seems like a good source of info... so in that respect, is trance the biggest its been? A sort of discordant noise that seemed pretty unique to me. Agreed. It's one of my absolute favourite records of the last year or so. I think La Rock 01 has to be the best track though. It's got everything, that noise, melody, energy and that little vocoder voice... Erik
