this album was conceptualized on saturday and the material was finished on monday. I doubt your friend traveled forward in time and found that out. and btw, no one gets into detroit with ambient, so nice try. 313 and spw, n leau of the fact that I've violated list guidelines in teh posting of private email back to the list, I'd like to offer an apology to spw and the list in general. I'd also ask that no one reply to this email to curtail the further perpetuate this thread. Please learn from my mistakes and buy my ambient album if someone will release it. :P SPW, sorry for hoe-ing you out. I thought what you sent to me was pretty cheap but I acted without considering the fact that 1000+ people are getting these emails and with the exception of about 5 people, I'm sure this is viewed as waste-mail. (313) Content for a change
If near Detroit, listen to WDET tonight for the latest Focus:Electronic: Wednesday night/Thursday morning, April 17th In a country where creative expression has become a national treasure, France has been a leader of electronic producers for decades. From early electronic experiments ala musique concrète to deep house, techno, ambient, trip hop and jazz/world-influenced rhythms, there are many facets of the French sound to explore. Some featured artists (just to name a few) are Jean-Michel Jarre, Air, St Germain, i:cube and Laurent Garnier. focus:electronic is a monthly radio series on WDET-FM 101.9 Detroit hosted by Liz Copeland with guest co-host Clark Warner. It is heard on the 3rd Wednesday night/Thursday morning of each month, 12:30 AM until about 2:30 AM (Eastern Time). If you dislike American foreign policy, listen to support French culture. If you are boycotting the French, then buy all these releases to destroy them in public. ;-) Even more importantly, protest to congress the fact that WDET no longer broadcasts music programming due to CARP restrictions. Hello peeps. After a bout of disco flu, I return with a couple of Q's. This Local3000 label - I think I must have missed the discussion. Can I only get this in ltd shops ala S.I.D? or is it widely available? Is it any good? Also, what's the deal with all this Drexciya coloured vinyl on Rushhour's list? Any new tracks...? And, finally - new Mills on NSC. Is it good..? What sort of thing, banging? deep tackle? Oh, and my tip for the day - never take your girlfriend to see Coldplay and Feeder when you have the flu - it can result in relationship threatening situations. Torture, absoloute torture... I think we're off topic, i think spw is more on a historical/ referential tip, and this release database and his motivation for it closely resembles Socrates' questioning well to bring this back on topic, spw is applying a second wave approach (due to second wave style industrial education) to a third wave situation (see Toffler) heh robin... ps. i'll shut up now here is a quick way to compile information to create a comprehensive list of new releases: Subscribe to record store stock list, one's that do a great job carrying new 313 music. (313) the weather
simple question: does the weather strongly influence the music you listen to? i realise a lot of the music i listen to, regardless of genre, has a melancholic edge to it (which is why a lot of 'detroit' music really touches me), which when the sun shines, say, is not really fitting for my mood. (i usually listen to dub, 70s reggae when the sun shines) i just wondered what others thought. obviously cos i live in manchester uk, it's p**sing down most of the time and i'm playing the 313 all the way :) just thought we could do with discussing music for a change :) cheers robin...

(313) Monobox - Molecule
So, anyone heard it? what are your impressions? heres what i think: i got it the other day. definitely one of my favourites of this year. it would seem that robert hood is back with a vengeance. it sounds like him definitely but he seems to have progressed from his usual m-plant monotone loopiness. these two tracks are more of the listening-techno kind IMO - the tracks evolve somewhat halfway to become the opposite of what they started out to be ie: a track that starts busy and hard develops into a more reduced and quieter one and vice-versa. i especially like the sounds he has used - the bside has these distorted vocals that echo in and out in repetitive loops and there are lovely bouncy synthetic sounds everywhere. the structure like i said isnt constant througout the track keeping everything extremely interesting. to answer spw, this, along with convextion and stewart walker, is what i consider futuristic techno. fab.

-- Original Message -- From: Jongsma, K.J. [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have this sick connection between the weather and the weather when i bought a record, for example i bought AI 2 on Warp in the smmer so whenever the sun shines i wanna play that album... i do this as well, even though i also practice the correlation between warm and cold sounds for the appropriate weather. for example, i first heard drum and bass in the fall, so every fall as the air starts to get that little bit of a nip, i pull out all the old drum and bass stuff and really rock out to it. tom andythepooh.com

Anyone know the people behind the Electronic Sound Terrorist compilations? Just curious...msg me off list if you do. Trying to get in contact with them, and any assitance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
RE: (313) the weather
I'm really surprised that people pin basically abstract music down to such an obvious sad/happy association. I personally listen to Mahler's 4th Symphony when it snows, John Coltrane or dub reggae when it rains, hard techno when it is sunny, and deep house/nu-jazz/broken beat/jazzy old skool hiphop when cute females are visiting. Detroit techno fits in with about anything though, in my opinion. It's not THAT melancholy, it's actually rather uplifting in my opinion, just in a more realistic way, rather than a fake/cheesy/corporate-manufactured/there-are-no-problems-in-the-world way. -dave -Original Message- From: Mark S. Listening to it now... http://www.planetxusa.com/pub/audio/djram/2003/133780.ram so far so goodpretty *big* track imo, nice melodies and sounds (always love the monobox sci-fi sounds). (313) record reviews
Well, you asked for it! Here you go! new 313 and 313 inspired as well as other dope records to check out: Monobox - Molecule EP - Logistic Rob Hood is back with a little preview for his album on Logistic. This is a nice record for fans of classic Rob. The cut many will dig, The Construct, is a minimal space crusier track with minimal fills and pro-1 action ala classic minimal nation style rob. The B-side cut Realm 3 is dark with a delayed voice sample and a nice lead part. I picked up the album Point Blank on Peacefrog a while back but missed out on the art of war 2X12 also on peacefrog...anyone got a review of that one? Tread - Tread 3 - Norm Some of you may already be familiar with the gorgeous music of Hiroshi Watanabe aka Kaito who has done 2 LPs for Kompakt (Special Life Special Love). This is the 3rd installment of which I had not previously heard before. The Norm website shows there are 2 previous CD volumes. If you like gorgeous deep techno, this is something you need to pick up. This release is more diverse than the ones he has done on Kompakt so expect a nice surprise. It's among the best releases all year and reminds you of some of the best Detroit Escalator Co. songs as well as John Beltran's music. big TIP! International Community - Vertigo - Laws of Motion Gotta give it up to mr. Jason Brunton of Iridite for this nice EP. The Phobia mix is my favorite and definately the more deep of the 3 cuts. The mix goes deep with dark pads and nice transitions throughout the mix. Also recommended is Jason's other EP on Laws of Motion the Looking Glass EP which was also released within the last 2 months. Putsch '79 - 1300 EP - Clone The best Metro Area bite so far! And it's a good one! Produced by Sami Liuski of Bangkok Impact and Pauli Jythankangas. Really dope orchestration and nice sparse instrumentation. Glowing Cat is my favorite cut with a sweet bassline and nice simple rhodes melody. Steam Engine is a nice chill sunday morning kinda tune which will really remind you of some of the quirky funky goofiness of Danny Wang's early Balihu records. The title cut 1300 is a stompin' slow italo jacker which will please those who enjoy the dark dutch disco of Creme and Viewlexx. 3 great cuts which no one should miss out on. strapped for time but I'll just mention some other records to check out that I have picked up lately that come higly recommended: Mesak - Haivenet - Klakson Luke Eargoggle - Audio Warriors LP - Bunker Al Usher - Slipshod EP - Out of the Loop Joshua - Imagineairy EP - Tweekin Rednose Distrikt - Gotta Make a Move - Kindred Spirits also props to Jurren for an excellent chill mix. I heard 40 minutes of it on Sunday and my connection timed out argh! d*mn dialup! :P can I get a copy of this Jurren? = down low music http://downlowmusic.org UPCOMING 2003: dL ltd tribute 12 dLpgccX Polarius Jams from the funk dump dL009 Dan Curtin distort.archive.desire dL010 The Connection Machine Painless dLCMLP1 __ Do you Yahoo!? deep house/nu-jazz/broken beat/jazzy old skool hiphop when cute females are visiting. Does this seem like it could be a new thread to anyone else? I'll get the ball rolling... Anything off Dance Mania is a classy way to make a first impression. :)

i have the art of war double. i like it better that point blank. i have to admit there is only one track i would play off the whole art of war double. its this 120 bpm hypnotic dan bell sounding track. but in a hood style. its not as abrasive as the whole other double pack point blank. Sundiatta O.M. is a percussionist (and vocalist I think) that recorded an album with Ron Trent (and Chez Damier) for Prescription towards the end of their initial run. It's a nice double-pack, I think, and sort of signalled the direction Ron Trent would move towards from then on, especially as he started collaborating with Anthony Nicholson thereafter. It was one of the first really organic records he produced, IIRC. Sundiatta also performed at one (or two???) of the DEMF's? I think he may have been the drummer who played with Derrick May at the first one, and for some reason I recall something related to the Lost Poets??? Lots of half-memories here. At any rate, that record is nice. :) Came out around '97 I think. Derrick Carter featured the track with all the political crap at the beginning of his disc of the three-disc Back to Basics tin. Umar Bin Hassan from the last poets went on stage while derrick was playing gumbo - submarine (dance mania). And he did this beautiful poem. Wich I think never got released on an lp... And Sundiatta was drumming even when Derrick spun bob azzam - batucada por favor. That´s like bringing your 909 on stage and playing the ride cymbal when a track from MR G is playing... If you know what I mean. Cheers, Maarten

Atari Teenage Riot, Venetian Snares, and circus music, lots and lots of circus music. Oh yeah, for 313 relevance, another good one to play would be that track I have on an old DJ Assault mix CD, b$tch you aint the one...
