no checking for anthrax i swear- the postal service got slower after that stuff went down. one thing i've learned- whether sending or recieving from the us, it seem to go a lot quicker if you fill out one of those silly declaration tags at the post office. a pr budddy in montreal was sending me stuff and taking 3 weeks at least. then he started using the forms and it takes 3 days. apart from shipping cost differences, none of the online US stores that i know offer anything like the range of the british and european stores. it's easier to get all my 313/212/312 needs, and electro and disco rereleases from piccadily or rush hour than from the US. james www.jbucknell.com David Gillies [EMAIL PROTECTED] To 17/06/04 01:33 AM Steward, Tim [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc 313@hyperreal.org Subject Re: (313) Re: *** Spam? *** RE: (313) stuff Steward, Tim wrote: If they release in the worldwide then everyone would order via the web from the US, and just I wouldn't order from the US. How much did you have to pay in shipping to get that though? When it comes to shipping I admit to being a complete [EMAIL PROTECTED] Standard surface shipping from the US usually takes about 4-6 weeks whereas the same from the UK only seems to take about a week (if that sometimes). theREALmxyzptlk wrote: I've gotten things to Oz from the US in 4 days - that's hard to beat. 5 days isn't unusual either. jeff At 08:33 PM 6/16/2004, David Gillies wrote: Steward, Tim wrote: If they release in the worldwide then everyone would order via the web from the US, and just I wouldn't order from the US. I use global priority - it's usually CDs and I can pack 4-5 in a jewel with art, bubblewrapped, for $5 (small, flat rate GP mailer)...and about 9 jewels packed (4-5 CDs apiece) in a large flat rate mailer for $9. Not bad at all
Re: (313) stuff
I have stacks of flyers from the Cisco people for the Transmat releases so if you're in Oz and would like one, send me your mailing address (privately) and I will post one to you... (If I can overcome my dreaded hate of queues in post offices, he he. I owe someone else on this list a big parcel too.) There is some good info on there. Cisco has exclusive distribution. The Japanese market is hugely supportive of Transmat artists and the people are really dedicated. I am sure that the releases will find their way out there eventually. So many major distributors in Europe have gone under that it's difficult to get things out there these days in current circumstances. I believe the Derrick May Edits CD on the Movement package is only available with the Japanese edition and that is because Derrick didn't want people on a wider level thinking it was a mix-CD, per se. (313) Rare HMC Date
Seeing that HMC is virtually retired - and everyone asks about him - here is some info on his current exploits. Should be a good weekend in wintry, cold, freezin' Melbourne that week - five hour set by Stacey Pullen on Friday and a five hour set by HMC on Saturday. Press Release 02.06.04 Honkytonks presents HMC (Adelaide/Dirty House Records) Saturday 26th June Support: Angela Maison, Jason Martin Peter Finger $10 on the door FACTS: Real Name: Carmelo Bianchetti Also records as: HMC Has Recorded with others as: Dirty House Crew, DJ HMC And Cinnaman, DJ Rob Little vs DJ HMC BIO: DJ HMC was one of the first Australian DJs to import the House vibe to the southern Hemisphere (playing in Adelaide and Melbourne); HMC was playing the then evolutionary sounds of Baby Ford the Beatmasters as well as the Chicago house sound. His formidable sets at ground breaking clubs like Metro in the late 80s gained him a cult like following in his home town and a reputation that led him overseas on many occasions, to play at some of the biggest parties in Europe (Mayday) and sets in the UK in the mid 90s. His studio work is now as synonymous as his DJing with all his releases having found much success in the bigger european market. Internationally he is well recognised for tracks he has produced for Juice Records, Dirty Acid Trax, Dirty House, Data, Vast Recordings, Undefined Recordings, and ???. DJ HMC's first solo EP on Dirty House (Phreakin') went to number 1 in the German Dance charts and stayed there for weeks. This set the pace for further Dirty House releases, and HMC's solo music career... His first release on Juice back in 1991, titled 100% Juice by Vitamin HMC. This was a limited 500 pressing, and was later licensed to Music Man. DJ HMC had created a track which they knew was worth committing to wax. The first EP was born from wanting to put something tangible on vinyl rather than with the purpose of starting a label. HMC is still regarded by many as Australia's premier techno DJ/producer. Some hold him in high regard for releases and past performances covering acid house, deep house, and tech house. Others know that he can play hard techno that'll send you home whimpering. HMC has also apparently penned lyrics for his brother Rob's 12 house releases. juicerecords.com.au: Throughout the late 80's and early 90's, the Adelaide club scene was held in high regard within Australian music circles, primaraly due to the success of DJ HMC who captivated the first generation of house techno enthusiasts, playing a mix of music that still sets a precedent for modern dance music. HMC has retired from DJ'ing with minimal appearances so far in 2003. We heard his most recent music during our last contact with him in January. Typically, they were fantastic creations. He remains the most influential artist Adelaide dance music has known yet his current status of retired has left somewhat of a void in the lives of his dedicated followers. dirtyhouserecords.com: As proclaimed by DJ magazine the Godfather of Adelaide's club scene. One of the first DJ's to import the House vibe to the southern Hemisphere, and who's formidable sets at ground breaking clubs like Metro in the late 80's gained him a cult like following in his home town and a reputation that led him overseas on many occasions, to play at some of the biggest parties in Europe and the UK in the mid 90's. Anyway its a pretty intresting place and I try to use headphones to help me focus on my work and sometimes I do have to answer the phone so I have the headphones in cue mode (one on one off). Today I listened to Sasha's Involver and got no complaints .. hmm intresting. :) Great topic btw! Regards, Ramon

(313) Manchester UK heads
Arghh, I was away last weekend and have busy at work this week meaning I've just gone through around 300 posts since last Thursday! Anyway on to the spam. We have a little party happening on Saturday where we'll be spinning things from tha D amongst other places so if you're in range of Manchester (apologies for filling the inbox of those not) and feel you might be crawling the walls at that time come along. Check www.thatamazingthing.com (though note it's getting late in the day to post out invites so probably best to pick up from Piccadilly Records or Polar Bar). Mr. Bond - what's your crew up to? I'm specially armed with a copy of Charles B Lack Of Love after a request from that direction! And do I take it from your post however, don't check the football, it's rubbish that you have no interest in joining the That Amazing Thing crew to watch on the big screen in Exchange square this afternoon? Hopefully there'll be girls wearing short skirts too.

(313) Freefloats and feedback.
Incidentally for the gig I just mentioned in a previous post I've purchased a pair of those Freefloat things (bright orange, weirdly shaped inflatable cushions you put your decks on) in an attempt to reduce feedback which seems to the limiting factor with our set up at the venue we're playing. Does anyone know if they work for this purpose? The makers reckon you should be able to turn your system up 20 - 30 dB more (so I guess they must provide 20 - 30 dBrw?). What other measures do people find effective to combat feedback (foam vs. inner tubes vs. paving slabs vs. water vs. combinations vs. something I haven't heard of etc.) and what does anyone know about the phenomenon? I've heard that Technics 1200s/1210s may be particularly susceptible to vibrating at a frequency which I've heard quoted as both round 60Hz and 40Hz. Francis

RE: (313) Freefloats and feedback.
I always do a little vibration test to decide if I need them, there are times when I was without and wish I had them. -try stomping on the floor in front of the djbooth/table and see if your record skips, or bumb the booth/table. The floats may be wierd looking but they absorb the vibration. But if you buy some try them out at home first so you know exactly how much air to put in them if you put too much the center can make your deck be un-balanced. Anytime your playing outside with a raised staged you should use them Tim -Original Message- From: Jason Brunton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, June 17, 2004 9:17 AM To: Jari Tolkkinen Cc: 313 Subject: Re: (313) Freefloats and feedback. (313) Freefloats and feedback.
They were using those Orange cushion things at the Movement Festival, and in my opinion they didn't seem to work too well. They still make the decks bob up and down, like you are at sea. What I would recommend is to go buy those foam pads that go under monitor speakers and use those. They work far better at reducing unwanted vibrations. Still, your decks will be raised up about 4 inches, so be prepared for that. e Incidentally for the gig I just mentioned in a previous post I've purchased a pair of those Freefloat things (bright orange, weirdly shaped inflatable cushions you put your decks on) in an attempt to reduce feedback which seems to the limiting factor with our set up at the venue we're playing. Francis
RE: (313) Freefloats and feedback.
the decks will still move, but the needle won't jump But it's a matter of your preference, the floats I can easily just pop into my bag, and pull them out in the venue causes for them. If you play a venue that already has decks then you only pack your records, and if the dj ahead of you had the skipping/ vibration going on it will only take you a few minutes to slide in and setup your floats without stopping the groove. Re: RE: (313) Freefloats and feedback.
I think the sea analogy is a good one, and yes, the needle won't jump from what I've experienced with a similar setup to those orange things. but I could never get used to feeling like the deck was all wibbly wobbly. it kinda freaked me out. lol! I guess whatever it takes to stop vibration and/or feedback is a good thing. lisa - Original Message - From: Steward, Tim [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thursday, June 17, 2004 10:28 am Subject: RE: (313) Freefloats and feedback. the decks will still move, but the needle won't jump But it's a matter of your preference, the floats I can easily just pop into my bag, and pull them out in the venue causes for them.
