2005-10-17 Thread alex . bond
what do peeps think about the still music comp?

I bought a copy. There's deffo some strong stuff on there but I've not had
chance to listen to it that much. I like it though anyway, had a few
listens. Think I took two of the tracks out to play on saturday but never
got round to playing them.
Anyway, its good I reckon, worth picking up. real deep stuff.

Rick Wilhite and Sherard Ingram's Cosmic Jungle is one of the tracks I
was liking for sure and I think maybe the other one was the m.pittman one,
walking through osaka i think...

So how was CC? Where you there?

Yeah he was pretty good - which was a relief as I had him down as a good DJ
based upon 4 previous gigs but then went to see him again at Leeds earlier
this year and he wasn't very good so I was doubting my previous judgements
as being just based on having a good night when he was playing. As I think
I said in a 313 debate on the subject once I think he must just be very
inconsistent.
However this week, after the Electric Souls party on Saturday night, I'm
more concerned with Henrik Schwarz who was amazing. I've got to see this
man again. Soon.
In fact I think I'll have to take this to the list as I want to tell the
world my opinion that this man is the real deal!

Both mixing and tunes. In retrospect I made a mistake by just totally
digging what I was hearing and dancing where I was and not going and
checking out what he was doing at some point as well. There was a laptop
among the stuff on stage so I suspect he may have been using that -
certainly there seemed to be times when just an element of a tune was used
and then taken away. The tunes were great but right now I'm no longer sure
what they sounded like, all too often when I'm having a really good time I
can't be specific about what happened - not 'cos I'm out of it, that can
often be the case but on this occasion it took to the end of the night
before I was drunker than I should have been - I just get caught up! If I
don't like something I can usually go I didn't like X, Y and Z but
sometimes when things are really good I end up like that was fantastic - I
just wish I could describe it!. This is usually followed (as in this case)
by a craze to want to see / hear the same thing again so you can pin it down
better - which could be a good or a disappointing experience.

I've heard one live CD of his - not sure if it's the same one - this was an
actual CD for sale. Think I flicked through it and thought it just sounded
like his tunes / remixes done live. Will recheck. I got the impression
(could be wrong) that on this occasion, as opposed to the last Electric
Souls party where he was down as Henrik Schwarz live, that this time he
was more down as a DJ.

Sorry I've been short of time and so didn't reply, thinking
basically my info is 2 years old and I was only there a week so the do
I know? Given time Guilherme may post something - especially if you prompt
him by saying so it's your city eh? : ) Then again maybe he's busy
stealth stalking UR round Liverpool with Alex.
Anyway for what I know - we went to Urbano (I'll try and get my map
out tonight and get you the district, think it was Pinheiros) on Monday
night - kind of funk / hip hop / RB, full of amazing looking ladies! Nice
for a first night there which it was for us. We were recommended Ampgalaxy
(see e-mail copied below, when in your position - and in my pre 313 years -
I decided to e-mail Crammed, a label that has SP connections and was lucky
that they turned out to be really nice, passing my request for info over to
one of their artists) a nice little place that operates in a kind of bar
downstairs clothing shop (from which I still have 2 treasured T-shirts)
upstairs place who's main night is (or was) Tuesdays. Blen Blen have (had)
stuff on most nights. I came across a collective called BEC (Brazilian
Electronic Community) in a different part of SP (map again) who put stuff
on, I think they had connections with some harder acid (SUF etc?) nights in
London so I don't know how they'll be, I took a recommendation from them for
my last night there and ended up in some mad kind of camp, high NRG place
off Avenue Paulista with a DJ on a platform, wearing only a thong, doing
body building poses between (non) mixes.
One strange (and for English people potentially hazardous) thing I
found was that in some clubs you're given a card on entry, have it marked
when you get drinks and then leave via a supermarket checkout looking place
round the back where you have to pay for the night's drinks.

Hello there

I wonder if you could help me with a bit of an odd
request

A friend and I will be visiting Brazil this summer
from 15/6/03 to 16/7/03. We are travelling round Brazil but are flying into
and out of Sao Paulo and plan on spending a few nights at the beginning and
end of our stay there. I have several releases on your label (Cibelle, Suba
etc.) recorded in or portraying Sao Paulo. I was wondering if you could
give me any advice or any contacts to help us enjoy this type of music while
there. I ask this as my friend has visited Brazil before but had no success
in finding good night clubs while there and I was hoping you might be able
to give us a pointer to the scene there?

I love Liverpool's intense energy... this city reminds me the most of
Detroit out of any city I've ever lived in... so yeah, I agree, Liverpool's
definitely the place to see them!! Although, I'll probably go and see them
in Leeds too, just to compare!!

Can't wait to see your stealth track suit Alex!!

I'll definitely go to one of these - where / when's the Leeds date - SC

Trust me, seeing UR in scouseland will be 10 times more fun than going to
leeds. think of all the japes. I'm wearing my shellsuit.

I can feel my bird kicking me out after coming back 2 days late already.
bring it on. and I'm going to stalk UR all weekend, creeping round the
hotel letting the fire alarms off in my stealth shell-suit.

(313) NYC gig announcement

2005-10-17 Thread Dennis DeSantis

Hi folks,

Just a heads up to let people know that I'm playing a short (30 minute)
live set this Saturday, October 22, at 10 pm in the Tap Bar at the
Knitting Factory. This is my first electronic gig since moving back to
the US this summer so if you're in or around the NYC area, I'd love to
see you. I don't know much about the rest of the lineup but I think
it's a mixed bag of styles.

DJ set with Eric Nate of Pela
