Hi Mike, I'm trying to figure out what you are saying here? People don't buy mix CD's really any more, as far as I know, so surely that is correct. But, why would be people be unlikely to consume it in any manner? I would personally be curious to hear it, as I think D May will always be a great DJ. ~David On Thu, Nov 24, 2011 at 9:03 PM, kuszyn...@gmail.com kuszyn...@gmail.com wrote: thanks for writing up on this. unfortunately, most of us won't be buying it, in fact, few of are likely to consume it in any manner. I guess I personally don't know anyone who really buys mix CD's. But you're right, SOMEONE must buy them. I suppose if you're name is big enough, you can sell a lot of anything, and Fabric has a reasonably big name. But with the number of free mixsets available from sites like Resident Advisor, there's already more mixes out there than one can keep up with. I feel like scarcity made mix CD's a big deal in the past. That scarcity is long gone, as anyone who knows how to use google can find mixsets of their favorite DJ's online. And a mix CD does not have the interest for collectors that vinyl has. On the other hand, mix CD's are great for impulse buys, certainly I could see people buying them at a show, though I don't recall anyone other than m-nus doing much in the way of merchandising at their events. ~David On Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 3:06 PM, Benn Glazier b...@glzr.info wrote: On 25 November 2011 17:11, David Powers cybo...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Mike, I'm trying to figure out what you are saying here? Re: (313) Derrick May - Heartbeat Presents Mixed By Derrick May Ã- Air Vol.2 (CD) at Discogs
I disagree, if you make Detroit inspired music and consider yourself part of the Detroit techno continuum, then you your music is relevant, period. Especially if you are from the Midwest. Times change, people move, and ideas spread across the globe. And Detroit techno now refers to an idea, and to styles of music based on that approach, not We can continue to talk about the work of Detroit artists, as well, but the list has little traffic as it is. There's no reason to adopt a narrow minded definition of Detroit techno, nothing is gained through that. While I think Derrick's a great DJ, he hasn't made music in years, why shouldn't we talk about stuff that people are making now? I say we should definitely congratulate fellow list members for their work getting some real exposure and recognition!!! It used to be musicians supported one another, what happened? This is the whole problem with this list, nobody cares about new music it's like a bunch of grandpas sitting on their porch talking about the good ole days... Which is ridiculous because there has NEVER been a better time for new music, despite the fact that it's terribly hard to make any kind of money at it anymore. ~David On Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 4:31 PM, Joe Marougi jmaro...@gmail.com wrote: Yo bro, It's cool if u wanna pimp that cd with your track on it here, but to be honest I think the DMay mix is a bit more relevant based on what this list is all about. Sure, there's no denying that Derrick is a brilliant DJ and his place in the evolution of the music that we regard highly will never be disputed. However, let's remember why the word 'techno' was chosen when it comes to these sounds. What's Derrick released recently? And how about Marcel and a whole swag of artists who are ripping it up right now... don't they deserve the air time? If they're producing excellent music, then yes. What is Detroit techno anyway these days? Is it a sound or an ethos? Or both? Or something else all together. That's not a dig, but a serious question being asked when borders are transcended and sounds cross over and meld; largely due to two things - the Internet and the reduced cost of air travel. And what does it mean? Well, yes, there's a lot of crap music to wade through, but there's the ability for people to access music far more readily, and this can drive the influence of artists, and beyond that, these new artists have a playing field to that is far more even than any other than before. And before I ramble off on another tangent whilst I should be finishing paperwork so I can enjoy my weekend, I'm just happy to see a thread with 20+ posts on the list for a change! -- *Benn Glazier* b...@glzr.info b...@glzr.info www.BennGlazier.com www.twitter.com/BennGlazier www.facebook.com/BennGlazierPhotography http://www.twitter.com/bennglazier +44 (0) 7714 3000 18

I feel betteri do not post often about things I am doing, of which theres a bunch...but I tend to think it necessary to mention what seems to be a good thing-like americans and midwestern artists getting international attention. here's one for the 313 grand pas feat MK http://www.delsinrecords.com/release.php?idxRelease=2919 and talking about re-issues here's the first of four Drexciya albums http://clone.nl/item21960.html Op 26-11-2011 0:07, David Powers schreef: This is the whole problem with this list, nobody cares about new music it's like a bunch of grandpas sitting on their porch talking about the good ole days... (313) Jigsaw Wild Kingdom
I like to mix textures and genres during the course of a set. One of my pet peeves is micro specialist DJs and their micro specialist cliques (fill in the genre of your choice - I won't name names). This week's set is a blend of tracks from Mute, SSR, Beechwood, Ersatz Audio, Klang, Raster/Noton, Shiver, Planet E, Eevolute, Delsin, UR, Nonesutch, Evolution, and others. What went down last week is at http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=39446 . The Wild Kingdom airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Friday Night/Saturday Morning, 10P-2A (6A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay area can find a webcast at http://www.kfjc.org/netcast/index.php . Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived at kfjc.org. You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show Just Desserts that was on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve 1999/2000, so you can see what what I'm up to these days is pretty much consistent with what I was up to all along. If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events. If you want to do some promotion for an event, contact the KFJC promotions department at pr...@kfjc.org to arrange ticket giveaways and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks to those who have sent promo music so far. Regards, Richard Hester Mr. Goodwrench The Wild Kingdom FR 10P-2A KFJC-FM 89.7 Los Altos Hills, California, USA
