The family has insurance but it is not likely to cover the entire hospital bill and will definitely not cover the lost income. I will repost his message verbatim from his Facebook page: On 3/18 my wife was gunned down on our front porch by her ex, during a last-minute custody exchange of Adel that he insisted. Then he killed himself. He forced her at gunpoint to our house, after Csilla had secured Adel in our car seat. I was upstairs with Stella when it happened at 5:45am. Csilla said his intent was to kill Stella I, and possibly Adel, but she told him she would rather die. My wife was airlifted to UC Davis where she was in ICU for 6 days, she was shot 4 times. She is now in a trauma ward and has made remarkable progress. She still has a bullet in her spine, 1 in the soft tissue of her lower back, and 2 chest tubes. Her spleen had to be removed and she only has partial feeling in her left leg. Doctors are not sure about her walking yet, but we are holding onto hope. It is really a miracle that we are all still alive. The kids are OK and we had our first child visits yesterday, with the help of a social worker. We are really touched by the outpouring of support from the community, churches, family, and friends. I couldn't stand up as tall as I have been without all of you. Please pray for Csilla's recovery and thank you all for the messages of strength and promise. With love, Steve http://lostcoastoutpost.com/2015/mar/23/csilla-adam-fortuna-shooting-russell-kellim/

Or as someone who goes there because you'd really rather walk into a Hieronymus Bosch picture. This is a terrible loss for Aaron's family, Detroit, and the world. I didn't know the man well, other than a couple of long conversations earlier this year on the phone. I was impressed by his drive to make things happen in Detroit, not just for himself, or for Detroit Dance Music (though they were things he loved DEEP, second only to his family and friends) but the next generations of kids. Aaron was openly, flamboyantly gay man who came out at a time and place where it was a lot easier to stay on the down low. The Detroit dance scene is a lot more open and accepting than the wider culture, but it's a brave man who's willing to be honest with the whole world the way AC was. Aaron presented himself transcended his sexuality, it represented an openness and honesty that's an example for everyone. Aaron was genuine, authentic, true, no bullsh*t. He has been in the hospital for several days now and they had not been able to make a formal diagnosis. It wasn't until they removed the fluid around his lungs did they discover it. On a positive note, they do feel they discovered it in the early stages and that it will be treatable. They will be testing his bone marrow today and hopefully make a formal diagnosis. Re: (313) New WPA record
I personally use USPS all the time (5-10 pieces per day) but Bridgette has her reasons. I've had several items get lost using their international service. 2 were returned to me. Not bad, but they were larger packages and I had to pay additional shipping to get the boxes back. 10 shirts cost me 40 to ship plus 40 to get back along with a 25 customs fee. Bad for business. At least when I ship UPS they make sure my packages make it to their destinationno extra fees. :) Sent from my iPhone On Feb 11, 2010, at 7:09 AM, JT Stewart etmach...@gmail.com wrote: No, it's not. I run a mail-order record business, we still use USPS. We send around a thousand int'l packages a year, to some slightly exotic places. A package goes missing maybe once every two years, and usually it's not entirely clear whether it's even the USPS' fault. International shipments over 4 pounds use a customs form that includes a code that can be tracked through the USPS website. It's been that way for a decade or so. Until last month, shipments under 4 pounds used a much simpler customs form that could not be tracked (at least, not through the website), but they've just gone to more complicated one that I believe can be. Tracking means accountability for any facility or post office where the package disappears. If you have the address right and the customs form right I'd say the chances of USPS losing something are way under 1%. If you have the address or customs form wrong, the package might take a long time to come back to you, but it will..the odds of loss are the same. My biggest beef with USPS right now is with domestic Media Mail shipments, which they have gotten a little over-zealous about opening and checking. Even when the box has fragile written all over it and is insured for hundreds of dollars. Apparently I'm supposed to trust that they will properly repackage everything...not good. Re: (313) Electrofunk.com
The electrofunk.com website is run by Ade. I got an email last week telling me they were migrating systems. The old DDV website was run on MIVA which sucks and I hate using it. I'm guessing Ade is still migrating the website over to the new osCommerce based site. I know Cliff isn't working on the DDV site anymore, but I am guessing that the site will be a little more extensive once they finish transferring things over. 2. The Other Side of Bling confused me a little, but from what I understand it is the CD/Digital Download release for the Electronic Warfare 2.0 Vinyl release. Hope that helps! I'll be down at the office tomorrow, so I'll see what other info I can get tomorrow. :) On Mon, Oct 6, 2008 at 10:28 AM, kent williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I got the announcement today of Electrofunk.com, which combines the on line UR vinyl/CD catalog with DetroitDigitalVinyl.com. There's apparently a new Electronic Warfare comp called 'The Other Side of Bling' which is labeled 'Electronic Warfare 2.0' I found this a little baffling because there's already an Electronic Warfare 2.0 compilation (which followed, naturally enough, Electronic Warfare). Adam On Jan 13, 2008 6:12 PM, kent williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This is my recollection of Ron's story: He had been fooling with the lathe and figured out how to stop the screw action that pushes the cutting head from the outside to the inside of the platter. Then cutting a locked groove is a matter of tuning the source matterial to exactly 133 1/3 bpm, dropping the cutting head in the groove and lifting it up again after exactly one rotation. Jeff came in to cut The Rings Of Saturn and as was Ron's method, he set up the cutter with a scratch lacquer, to cut part of a track in order to see how it sounds played back. Without telling Jeff, Ron cut a lock groove out of one of the tracks and put it on the turntable while Jeff wasn't paying close attention. The loop played for a minute or so before Jeff's eyes got big, and he said wh wh what the hell Ron? H H H How did you do that?! It's funnier if A) you've heard Jeff talk and B) you hear it from Ron, imitating Jeff. Now the fact is that locked grooves weren't a Ron Murphy invention -- every run-out groove is a lock groove, and the Beatle's Sargeant Pepper has a lock groove cut in the run-out groove of the first English pressing. But it may be true that Ron started it in the realm of dance records. Anyway, that's my recollection of Ron's story. He definitely had a million of them, especially about the competetiveness of the early Detroit artists. The fact is this, though: In the late 80s, getting your own lacquers cut and plated, and then pressed locally, was a completely new phenomenon. Ron Murphy was there in Detroit, and his help and encouragement with young artists making their first records was a big part of the development of the techno scene. His experience, going back to the Motown 60s was important as well. He was the uninterrupted institutional memory of Detroit as a center of unique musical creativity. There are plenty of people who can cut records, but absolutely no one that cut all the records that Ron cut. Re: (313) Disco D 1980-2007
I first met Dave Shayman aka. Disco D when I was in college in January, 1998. While at a record shop on the campus of the University Of Michigan, I picked up a mixtape by an unknown artist named DJ Disco D. The furious 85 track mix of pitched-up Detroit Electro, Chicago Ghetto House, Miami Bass and Hip-Hop quickly became a favorite to my roommates and I; in heavy rotation at our apartment. It was straight-up Booty Music (as it was known at the time), a style that evolved in the inner-city strip-clubs as a soundtrack for the dancers to shake their asses to, the genre eventually made it's way on to late night mix shows on Detroit urban radio. A few weeks after I bought the mix, I decided to check this unknown DJ out at the opening of a weekly club night called Solar (which I believe was his first professional DJ gig). When I got to the club, I was quite shocked to see that he was a not only a white guy, but he didn't even look old enough to get into the club that he was performing at! As the weeks went by I got to know Dave personally. When he dropped his first 12, The D-Down EP only a couple months later, I really got a sense of how driven and ambitious he was. He had only performed at his first rave a short time prior to the release of his record! It wasn't long before Dave would make a name for himself as a creative musician, extremely skilled DJ, and talented producer. After launching his own label, and later moving to New York, Disco D went on to remix and produce many artists as disparate as Lords Of Acid and Eminem. More importantly, he was a very instrumental catalyst that helped to bring Detroit Ghettotech to a broader audience, both stateside and and worldwide. In fact, he coined the term Ghettotech to describe the unorthodox and distinct sound of the genre. Not too long ago, fellow label mate: Darkcube and I had the pleasure to open for Disco at Hump a Ghettotech themed club night here in Detroit. After sharing the bill with Dave many times in a handful of cities it was good to talk to an old friend who I hadn't seen in a while. His performance was a reunion of sorts. The audience was jam-packed with his longtime friends, fans and colleagues. Always the consummate performer and personable cat, Disco D hadn't lost a step. We'll miss you Dave. For CDR masters, he had something like a Numark DJ CD Player. The speakers he was monitoring on were definitely nothing special, and the cutting room's acoustic treatment was a piece of dirty carpet. This is before his latest move -- I've not been to cut anything since 2000... It's all good solid equipment, but it's nothing particularly exotic. There might be things I didn't see, but the 'magic' comes seems to come mostly from Ron's experience with how far the gear can be pushed without burning out the cutting head or causing distortion.
