Adam Beyer too... regarding Surgeon and his friends, maybe he should get

on top of that zone 1 / zone 2 problem, another one is that even if you have

have it too... I kind of rushed to buy it when I got my Minidisc ! i tried
listening at random of course, and I must say it is a weird experience, as
with pretty much all Autechre music, I'd say it is "immersive", I tend to
daydream a lot when listening to that stuff... The difference here, with
that randomness factor, is that the daydreams are always different, no
predictability possible ; I'd say it is worth it at least to try it for a
couple of hours :-)

In fact, I regularly listen to his "Replicas" and "The pleasure principle"

They sound quite "fresh" to my ears, and not at all that ridiculous,

Thanks for the Mantronix reco, but I already know two or three of his albums
; I'll give them another try, but when I heard them I though his stuff was
too often the same, not enough differences from one track to another...

RT did have a penchant for guitars, but as one of the most important indie
labels in the UK, they released tons of other stuff at the time, including
some classic techno and great reggae... for example, their 25 years boxset
includes cuts by Autechre, Aphex Twin, Plastikman... maybe also it was only

Well, Speedy J has had quite a varied output, some of which I would rank as
drill'n bass (think Mike Paradinas et al), some of which is clearly IDM
(mostly what he released on Warp), some is Detroit techno - and good Detroit
techno too, I'm thinking about his +8 records... Haven't been listening to
this specific one for a while now, but I've got fond memories of it ; and it
certainly is a good example of good IDM. There are plenty of people putting
out excellent IDM these days - off the top of my head : check out the Leaf
comps - and there have been plenty releasing great IDM in the last ten
years... just check out the Warp catalogue

RE: [313] Disco

one of the tracks that brought me to reconsider my opinion on disco ;-)
though I prefer the rip-off by Renegade Soundwave !
Thanks to everyone who answered my request BTW - I'm currently trying to
sort it out...

I know this is off-topic, so replies could be off-list, but since there are
so many people knowledgeable on disco on this list... I'm currently
discovering there is more to the genre than Abba and Boney M, so I'd
appreciate recommendations for comps, albums... especially stuff like

2002-02-04 Thread Gwendal Cobert
Well, I have their Gesamtkunstwerk CD, and I was a bit disturbed by the
imagery, but it is just "too much" not to be second-degree... as far as I
know, the most extreme far-right doesn't go that far in their slogans and
imagery, right ? plus, I don't really see how could a guy with such ideas
fit in the Gigolos stable ?

...And for those who want to have some fun and know enough French :
- Libération, a daily French paper, has a page today on these two albums +
Fischerspooner - and they say the worst about these persons, esp poor Felix,
who is accused of releasing his album to pay his lifestyle...
- Bruits, by Jacques Attali, is a well-known essay about the relationships
between music and society. The ideas themselves are very interesting, but
when he talks about rock or reggae, there's an incredible number of mistakes
; and when he reaches techno, it is just incredible (techno invented in 89
etc)
