[313] funny coincidence
i was organising my files on my pc at work and i noticed a funny coincidence - check it out :: http://www.negative-industries.com/febbo/313.html regarding the thread abt djing and playing live etc, when i go to see (listen?) to a live PA i usually turn my back to the stage so i can dance and not get fixated with staring blankly at the artist. i actually find it quite amusing that people just stand there and stare at the back of a laptop or at a downturned head. the ojective is to dance i think, its not a rock concert. i think when people go to see a live act they make some sort of mental connection between a live electronic/dance show and a rock concert and therfore behave the same way ie: stare at the stage. this also happens, but to a lesser extent with djs - but in that case people usually know they have to dance :) even though i still find it funny that everybody dances towards the stage. fab www.negative-industries.com/febbo - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have the second one.i wouldn't classify the whole comp as micro/mini-house, but a lot of the tracks are.i just can't remember the names...ill have to get back to you on that one. another comp is the ~scape saedtizism (sic) featuring gramm, delay, sun electric and the modernist among others. i also reccomend (already mentioned) the Farben Raw Macro ep on Klang. > > What about the Clicks & Cuts comps ? don't they fit into micro-house ? and > what about Geeez'n Gosh, one of Uwe Schmidt's aliases ? best take on the > Soulcenter idea so far IMHO some tracks are incredible (most notably > "Jesus Christ saved my life") > Gwendal > > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When you open a RealAudio file a .ram file gets copied onto your HD, usually in your temporary internet files if youre on a pc. locate that file and open it in a text editor. there you should find the a link to the downloadable .rm file on the server. it doesn't always work but there's no harm in trying! But in the broader world of > dance music in general, most of them can't. what the broader world of dance music? there's no such thing. even if you say its commercial dance, stuff that gets played on mainstream radio in europe & the uk, its a collection of songs belonging to various genres. i think its safe to say that contemporary dance music is heavily influenced by black musicits a fact. that means that the ppl that produce it and the ppl to whom its marketed have been exposed to black music or music inspired by black music, or the funk or whatever. lets not assume an apologetic stance to racial stereotyping by justifying it with intellectualisms that i personally feel are inexact. and lets not also consider us whiteys on the list as being special because we CAN funk. cheers fab

I've lately been getting more and more into electro, but I have little to no knowledge of electro, much of the history behind it, artists, labels, etc., beyond like old Juan Atkins, Aux 88, Drexciya...stuff like that. I was wondering if anybody had anything they wanted to share with me about electro. I've really been feeling The Advent's latest stuff, such as their Westsiders EP on Electrix. I really like the electro with the deep dirty synths over the computerish stuff with bleeps (although some of that is cool too, like the song with the "that is incorrect" sample from Speak & Spell). Hi Tim, the speak n spell song is by Dopplereffekt, but i cant remember the name of the track...i have it on the Gesamtkunstwerk cd that came out on Int'l Gigolo Recs. I suggest looking into all Dopplereffekts stuff. The cd i mentioned is basically a comp of most of their 12's You can also check out stuff from the Direct Beat label such as Aux88 and the Direct Beat comp. Europe also has a strong elektro scene, centered mainly in germany and holland but italy and france ahve some excellent contributions. the artists i reccomend are: Aux 88 Dopplereffekt Anthony Rother Miss Kittin & the Hacker Mat 101 Marco Passarani Model 500 there is a comprehensive list, both old skool and new skool at www.electroempire.com for any chat or info write to me whenever fab

spam
Hi list, my views on this subject: i don't have any trouble with someone posting links to their music, playlists etc..i think this is what this list is all about, ie: not just sterile intellectual musings on techno. I think its a good habit for posters to state *spam* in the subject. regarding the rules of this list i think its up to us to actually decide whats cool and whats not...i mean its the users as a whole that make the list, it doesnt exist without us. If we as a whole decide something is tollerable then its in, otherwise its out. Strictly speaking about the whole spam issue, it was decided over a week ago. bye fab || Web Developer || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || || www.deepend.it || "If we never looked at things and thought what they might be, we'd still be in the tall grass with the apes." USvs.THEM?? (was Re: Jaguar Video)
Hi list, this thread is starting to annoy me..the part concerning us (313'ers) and them (rest of the world). I don't think we have any right to consider us some sort of illuminated caste, as being culturally advanced because we choose to listen to so-called underground music. People are entitled to listen to whatever they feel, and this choice should'nt categorize as being poor shallow souls who accept whatever the man throws out to them. I mean, if most of the mainstream people heard what we were listening to they would probably say the same thing..there is no VERB to spread to the masses. To each his own, and if you like cheesy trance it ONLY means we'll never go clubbing together. bye sorry for the rant, but im still in the office and not too happy bout it! ;-) fab || Web Developer || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || || www.deepend.it || "If we never looked at things and thought what they might be, we'd still be in the tall grass with the apes." Women & Techno
Guys n Gals, I'm answering to ALL of those who responded to my post personally :-) I made a casual observation.not that I feel attacked by all the feedback. I think that it is beyond this list to determine the reasons behind thae scarceness of women techno djs. But I think that there are various issues to be taken into consideration i.e: the nature of this music-understandibly non appealing to the general female public; the sexist undertones to most manifestations of human business and culture as well; and yes, I believe that the obsessive undertones top being a DJ aren't too common with females. But by saying all this I am not stating that females can't be djs nor spin hard/wierd/non-commercial music. Is this making snese? (ive just come out of a 7 hour meeting and feelindg a little dazed :-) seeyou fab || Web Developer || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || || www.deepend.it || "If we never looked at things and thought what they might be, we'd still be in the tall grass with the apes." > As to why more women aren't doing it, it beats me. Sexism is a factor > everywhere One thing I've always noticed is the abnormally high number of males compared to females in techno clubs worldwide. I think its just the appealI mean it obviusly appeals more to men than women. So considering that female djs are already scarce, couple that with the macho appeal of technothere you have it! No women djs! bye fab

Tone shifting
I can't rememer with who it was that originally stated that tone shifting is a mechanism of the brain that *fills* in the gaps in highly repetitive music, but I agree with him and have to add that this fenomenon doesn't occur only while listening to music, whether it be minimal techno or tribal beats. It also occurs while on the train, in a room full of computers, or wherever there is a repetitive sound. Thats why I like riding trainsthere so much music to be heard!! later, fab || Web Developer || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || || www.deepend.it || "If we never looked at things and thought what they might be, we'd still be in the tall grass with the apes." Laurent Garnier in Barcellona
Just say Laurent Garnier play in Barcellona on Sunday the 24th of September. The venue was the EstaciĆ² de Francia train station, duly transformed for the occasion; the punter turnout was VERY large, considering the actual dancefloor was the in the tracks area of the station. Laurent started his set at around 2 am and ended at 4.30. He played a selection of his own tracks, such as Sound of the Big Babou and The Man with the Red Face, but that didn't seem like a bad thing for me. :-) I danced and danced to my heart's content, although I thought LG was gonna play longer, I had been told tales of historic 6 hour sets. A beautiful evening none the less fab
