Andrew Thanks for the help. I can see you've been rinsing this one with it appearing in 8 shows! Unfortunately only one mix still appears to be available (I presume the presence of a link indicates this) but I can't get that one to go (Object not found) either. But no worries as there are 2 alternatives for me: 1. The record is available at a shop - in which case I can check clips there 2. It isn't - in which case I probably don't want to hear it as if I do like it I will then get frustrated at not being able to get it and it will join the list of records I want but missed. So transitory has the nature of vinyl become, with people only daring to do small runs, that things get on this list all to easily now. The list is getting big and I find it healthier just to rip it up and not spend daft amounts of time ferreting out things I might want but missed at the time. As it is Shake was kind enough to drop me a line to say that it looks like those copies weren't promos, the label only wanted to do 500, they're gone and that looks like the end of it. The shame is I can totally understand a label doing small runs with seemingly diminishing sales, they've got to keep viable (this isn't meant to ignite a is vinyl dead? / no, indie bands are selling loads of 7s! debate) but observing how things run at my local shop it's obvious that it works 2 ways and all the limited runs are part responsible for the diminution - sometimes they could sell many times over what they get. If any of you attended the Detroit City Fest, there was very nice performance by Liz Copeland who preceded an awesome set by Shake. It was great to hear Mike Banks' new track, UR-071, high tech realities, on a big system - I'm really glad he worked it in so nicely. I did have one question regarding the Is it real track.. I noticed that the bass line seemed the same as Shakes track Simpatico on Songs for My Mother. Was this a re-mix or was I just having an auditory hallucination? I don't think anyone is 'untouchable' myself. Still, it seems to be a minority of folk capable of finding something to gripe about, as is their right. I'm just glad for the music he's made which I can say; hand on heart, has enriched my life, and although I've never actually heard him DJ, people I respect (some of them extremely critical!) have consistently said they've enjoyed these sets - even after taking into account the fact that they may not always be technically 100% perfect. Im one of Shake's biggest fans but even I could not enjoy myself at his set. 1st of all i heard the same exact set played by him a year ago at an after party at olslo's. no kidding it was the same for sure. the only difffrence was instead of juggiling two copies of the pace he juggled phillips track last time. and i don't mind the trainwrecks if the songs are good. they were good the year before. boring this year. please familarize yourself with the mixer Those who have bravely ventured forth to play records (or CDs or DATs or MP3s or whatever) to the public also recognize checking the equipment with the previous user rather than winging it as a sign of professionalism. I can't tell you how many times over the weekend I saw various big-name DJs explaining to each other the basic working of a particular mixer. In 1992, there were three or four basic mixer types (and only a handful of viable manufacturers). Now there are dozens of basic layouts and hundreds of variations. I'm going to chime in on this one because well... It's anyone's right to dislike/like a set.However, when it's Shake...for me at least, it's a different thing. Shake is a good person.He is a businessman but is always kind and at least straight forward. He has always been-always will be. I grew up seeing his sets, always with a smile and always willing to talk to people, shake their hand.I remember the first time I saw him with a cane and then when I saw him in a wheelchair.It was quite a visual to see his health go up and down. Like or dislike, considering Shake's role in even the existance of this like...I doubt you'll find many of the old timers to agree with you. Shake is the man Shake is one of the few djs that really takes chances. His mixes are always on the verge of shoes in the dryer, but they are always exciting and usually unexpected and original. He's always been one of my faves and has been an inspiration to my style. is there any of shakes mixes online for streaming or free downloads? To be honest i have never heard any of his sets. Sounds like an amazing festival very jealous. Be great if we could get a techno sound system at notting hill carnival, i think it would go down well. Thats the problem with techno though the term itself is very misunderstood, but heh maybe its better that way. Always good to surprise people. That being said, lets debunk this myth of the same set. 1) The previous set couldn't have contained the new UR record since I jjust handed it to Shake 5 min before he played it (great record by the way everyone should go out and buy it, if you haven't already done so) and I haven't spoken to Doc brown lately. 2) I'm sure the records you recognized were in fact his own records that he was dropping, and as a fellow label co-owner, I hold no ill will against someone dropping their own sh!t, especially when it's fanf%ckingtastic. 3) Wow that's the first time i've heard someone complain about hearing classics, I'm speechless on that one. 4) As for the mixer I'll take the hit on that one as well. no, just because it was a year later does not make it boring. It was boring because the same songs were basicly played in the same order in which i heard them played the year before.
