IDK, I kind of dig getting Candy Crush and Bejeweled messages from him on Facebook. On Thursday, September 19, 2013, kent williams wrote: > Love the man, love the music, but we need to do a Kickstarter campaign to > hire him an assistant to manage his internet presence. >

It's a sad day when I have to filter messages from Shake to the trash. Like I tripped and fell into an alternate dimension or something. If he really can't, someone just has to install these two programs for him. Either way, it won't take more than 10-15 minutes to install these two. Apologies for directing you to a dead link, Francis. I just checked now and see that show was for February 4. I had taken the show itself off my server in order to make way for a newer show, but I forget to take the link off the show archive page. I'll get that taken care of. With all the renewed talk of this EP, I had already planned on playing a track from it on this week's show (which I'll likely mix tonight), and I'll still do so, along with new material from Aux 88, The Black Dog, Reade Truth on Planet E and lots more goodies (Kai Alce on Deep Explorer, Florence and/or Wladimir M. on Eevonext, Speedy J remixing Terrence Fixmer, Kai Alce on his NADTL imprint, and more). Andrew Thanks for the help. I can see you've been rinsing this one with it appearing in 8 shows! Unfortunately only one mix still appears to be available (I presume the presence of a link indicates this) but I can't get that one to go ("Object not found") either. But no worries as there are 2 alternatives for me: 1. The record is available at a shop - in which case I can check clips there 2. It isn't - in which case I probably don't want to hear it as if I do like it I will then get frustrated at not being able to get it and it will join the list of records I want but missed. So transitory has the nature of vinyl become, with people only daring to do small runs, that things get on this list all to easily now. The list is getting big and I find it healthier just to rip it up and not spend daft amounts of time ferreting out things I might want but missed at the time. As it is Shake was kind enough to drop me a line to say that it looks like those copies weren't promos, the label only wanted to do 500, they're gone and that looks like the end of it. The shame is I can totally understand a label doing small runs with seemingly diminishing sales, they've got to keep viable (this isn't meant to ignite a "is vinyl dead?" / "no, indie bands are selling loads of 7s!" debate) but observing how things run at my local shop it's obvious that it works 2 ways and all the limited runs are part responsible for the diminution - sometimes they could sell many times over what they get. I'll go in for a record and it's like "no, you missed that one" when I am right on watching their website for new stuff and live just round the corner. In times past when there wasn't such a through-put of material I reckon a record could be shipped in, sit on the shelf for a while, have people gradually hear it out and about and rate it / hear about how good it was and then it would slowly get picked up - a "sleeper". (313) Shake, Todd Osborn, BMG and Chuck Hampton
They played this past Friday in Detroit. The whole night was fantastic! At the top of my list for nights out ever! Music was excellent, crowd was full (which is saying a lot in Detroit!), great night all around. I've written more on my blog if you're interested: www.denisedjsdetroit.blogspot.com And by the way, Shake, your set was awesome! I love going out to see you play...thank you! Todd, don't know if you read this list, but if you do...same! I was too sleepy to stick around for BMG's set and arrived at the end of Chuck Hampton's, so that's the only reason I don't have anything to say about that. (313) Shake at the City Fest...
If any of you attended the Detroit City Fest, there was very nice performance by Liz Copeland who preceded an awesome set by Shake. It was great to hear Mike Banks' new track, UR-071, high tech realities, on a big system - I'm really glad he worked it in so nicely. I did have one question regarding the "Is it real" track.. I noticed that the bass line seemed the same as Shakes track "Simpatico" on Songs for My Mother. Was this a re-mix or was I just having an auditory hallucination? As usual, lots of great tracks put together tastefully - not a surprise... Fantastic performance Shake, Thanks! -terry

First Shake set I ever caught was at the Black Nation Records party with Mills and Surgeon. Claude Young and Shake killed on that night! some of the most amazing mixing I ever heard at a party. And considering he lent some instruction to Claude Young before he made it on the global circuit, you gotta have some respect for this man. I'm sure Shake is listening, and that the reason he hasn't chimed in on this thread is out of a sense of modesty and tact. Naturally. Personally, I wonder if he's interested in getting into the whole mix MP3 game. At home I think he's very focused on creating his own music, and when I've seen him spin his sets are very much in the moment and specific to the setting and the people present. I've never seen him record his sets, so it may be one of those 'you had to be there' things. Oh yeah, what i mean is: if there any recordings knocking about then we'd love to hear them. I know a lot of DJs that don't record mixes. It's a slightly unnatural thing to do for some people. robin...

Before I begin, I have to take some responsibilty here, since I did provide certain treats that obviously clouded his thinking. That being said, lets debunk this myth of the same set. 1) The previous set couldn't have contained the new UR record since I jjust handed it to Shake 5 min before he played it (great record by the way everyone should go out and buy it, if you haven't already done so) and I haven't spoken to Doc brown lately. 2) I'm sure the records you recognized were in fact his own records that he was dropping, and as a fellow label co-owner, I hold no ill will against someone dropping their own sh!t, especially when it's fanf%ckingtastic. 3) Wow that's the first time i've heard someone complain about hearing classics, I'm speechless on that one. 4) As for the mixer I'll take the hit on that one as well. I realized that at times the low pass filter was pushed down on the right table and I didn't intervene. I'm sorry that I ruined your experience, my bad. But I noticed that everyone else was having the time of their lives, myself included. 5) As for finding the fantastic music he dropped boring, that's your loss. But then again I shouldn't expect that much from someone who enjoys Anchorman over the 40-year old virgin. For those readers who have no idea what I'm referring to, trust me when I say there's no comparison, the virgin crushes the Anchorman. I talked to Shake after the Claude Young after-party, since I cannot pass up a chance to talk to that man :D I started to say how much I liked his set at the festival, because I love how he mixes it up track selection-wise. Nobody sounds like him 'cos nobody thinks like him. He quickly corrected me and said that it wasn't that good, and of course the mixer issue came up. If I recall, he said good track selection wasn't good enough. To me, it's always interesting to see the difference in perspective from the performer to the punter - I heard several Well-Known DJs that I thought went over well grousing about their sets, whether it be the wind (on the Pyramid Stage) or the mixer or ... you name it. Re: (313) Shake
Sarcasm from Greek σαρκασμός (sarkasmos), 'mockery, sarcasm' is sneering, jesting, or mocking at a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony intended to insult or wound[1] — stating the opposite of the intended meaning, e.g. using "that's fantastic" to mean "that's awful". It is used mostly in a humorous manner, and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Use of sarcasm is sometimes viewed as an expression of concealed anger[2] or annoyance. no, just because it was a year later does not make it boring. It was boring because the same songs were basicly played in the same order in which i heard them played the year before. WAs not was idiotech the track that sampled the police the kid sublime remix of drop it like it's hot. thom yorke's solo thing.. should i keep going. I don't have a great memory which is testament to why i was unimpressed by hearing the same set played worse then the year before is all. personally i love these songs. and i love shake. just didn't do it for me. also id like to know if anyone on the 313 saw his set @ oslo's the year before they might be able to attest as well. cause if you wern't there you have no idea what im talking about. a On Tue, June 5, 2007 9:44 am, Thomas D. Wow, it's pretty early in the morning to read such asine comments and I haven't even read the AP wire yet. I'm just mad as hell Shake didn't rock doubles of Shalamar, George Benson or I-Level. Had he done that, I think all of you would be licking the wheels of his badmotorscooter with your tongues. Hell, you should be doing that already.
Re: (313) Shake
Every DJ i saw there had problems with that mixer so I don't think that's a fair comment. Shake had his cousin and a kid from the neighborhood come with him just to look after him, even help him get the records out of the bag, and they were, as I was, just really happy he even made it. He was so tired at the end he wanted to give up! I'm not saying his illness is an "excuse" for anything but Shake was fun and it doesn't really matter he played the same music. I mean, sometimes I hear a "similar" mix by dj after dj and that's ok if everything else is (crowd, atmosphere) works. I'll give an example - when Jeff was going through his big disco phase I swear I heard the most similar mix about 3 times and I enjoyed it everytime. I admit by the time I heard it the 3rd time I was recognising tracks but it was still GOOD. You need to drop the trainspotting and just chill and enjoy yourself. I also know that equipment suppliers have to juggle things to make it all work out -- nobody stocks only a single model (you'd have to throw out all your inventory and start over every year or two anyway, as the older ones are discontinued), and the explosion in mixer types and the excessive number of bells and whistles (literally, in many cases) compared to even a few years ago is pretty astonishing to see. Criticize the track selection and mixing all you want, but give the DJ some slack for the conditions that almost always apply anywhere you don't own the sound system yourself. fh
Re: (313) Shake
"please familarize yourself with the mixer" Those who have bravely ventured forth to play records (or CDs or DATs or MP3s or whatever) to the public also recognize checking the equipment with the previous user rather than winging it as a sign of professionalism. I can't tell you how many times over the weekend I saw various big-name DJs explaining to each other the basic working of a particular mixer. RE: (313) Shake
I personally don't see what it's intended to achieve, really. Still, I've got too many more pressing things to do to than indulge in some hatin'. (Fun as hatin' can be sometimes).
