(I'm assuming it will only > work on pcs?) > you dont even have to use a mixer, mind yea i used a mac. for the radio show i used to have to copy cd's to my computer all the time. i wanted to play a radiohead track so i barrowed the cd from the station. i tried to copy the cd to mp3 for me. would not work because one of the ways i import cd to the program i use (pro tools) is to import a wav file. so i was screwed there, so i decided to bus the internal cd player to the record bus in the program and it totally copied it my computer and i was able to use the song. the end. so as long as i can hear the music, it can be copied. not that i endorse that. scotto plaztikjezuz.com

How does any copy protect stop me? (I'm assuming it > will only work on pcs?) Yes, you can still do an audio copy of a CD that has copy protection. What copy protection tries to do is to prevent you from doing a digital -> digital copy. You can still run the cd through a DAC and copy it that way. Simply, copy protection works buy putting deliberate errors on the cd. So when trying to do a digital -> digital copy, the software will detect an error an not be able to do a copy. However, when playing a cd the cd playing will give it a 'nearest guess' and thus the cd will play. This does mean that audio quality of copy protected cds is inferior to none copy protected cds but the industry doesn't care about this. Never mind providing the consumer with quality when you can squeeze them to get the maximum amount of money.

It's funny you should mention this since I was part of the minority that slammed this album for what it's worth: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/classicpop/reviews/kraftwerk_france.shtml "I was highly disappointed to say the least what with the nostalgic sound that doesn't seem to progress any further than ex-frontman Karl Bartos & Wolfgang Flür's transcendental flourishing from the mid seventies which made Kraftwerk so prolific." Re: (313) New Kraftwerk album, my 1st impression...
hey patrick..yeah my impression was pretty much the same -- some pretty filler-y, kinda generic stuff -- EXCEPT for a few tracks, which are really nice! i really dig 'elektro kardiogram'. it really sounds like the same old (in a good way!) kraftwerk...the structure is so open and not-techno (song structure, not loopy) and just awesome sounds beats and vox. aerodynamik is pretty good too. it may not be the best thing overall, but i think they still got it... Probably setting myself up for a serving here, but I was really disappointed with the new Kraftwerk album. It seemed to be devoid of all that intricate percussion and rhythms of previous albums and more of an exploration into soft synth patches. They have definitely stripped back on this album. Maybe I should listen to it again, but my first impression isn't the best. I suppose they've got an awful lot more work to do, we've had 20 years of electronic dance music since their last (major) output, but what was nice about TDF03 for me was it's lightness, funkiness, and general vibe, for me it's really uplifting. If the rest of the LP is in that vein, it should be a real treat. (313) new Kraftwerk 12"
Well, the new Kraftwerk 12" landed on my desk this morning. so - I legged it to the record shop on my lunch to borrow their deck and check it. only flicked through, so these are first impressions.. I admit I was expecting it to be pretty s**t, but I was pleasantly surprised I think. it's only a t.p, so no track info or title info. A Side - One mix taking up the whole side. First up, it doesn't sound much like the original. The breathing and chain mechanism rhythms are gone, as are the famous synth stabs.. This mix is probably what you'll hear in the clubs - and I think you will hear it in the clubs too. Pretty modern sounding, although sort of sounds like a tech-house of the late nineties sort of thing. The thing I can most liken it to is a chain reaction record I think. A pretty pleasant modern club track with snippets of tour de france vocals on. Pretty much an instrumental mix. I can see quite a lot of people playing this. B Side - 2 mixes, both 'vocal' versions, a little more abstract than the A side, some clicks added to the rhythms to give it a slightly more modern and complex feel than the A side. Both sounded pretty OK on first listen. so, in summary, quite a pleasant surprise. Sorry about the brief descriptions, but I only flicked through. Overall, it doesn't sound like Kraftwerk much, but I think thats a good thing? I'm looking forward to the LP now I think, I hope there's a little more experimental stuff - could be interesting I think.. It's a good record. I played it at the 313 party, of course. (Had to, I just bought it at the Ferndale RT that afternoon!) Of course, Kraftwerk only sound like themselves really, but I was reminded of "Moskow Disko" as far as the sound of the electro mix I played. phred

It's Kraftwerk covers done in latin style (rumba, cha cha cha, cumbia etc) and it's pretty awesome. I can't go back to the originals... :P Apparently it's got the kraftwerk seal of approval. Chris
Re: (313) new kraftwerk; not another sony; syntax
SEAN> The Kraftwerk track Expo 2000 is dubby electronic - not quite the same electro-proto-techno of old. In this case, the bootlegger (read: remixer) is simply putting a techno/dancefloor face on the new track. This doesn't mean it's any good tho! (BTW - How are things Sean? Interested in coming back to IC sometime? Where's that new album?!?) ASKEW> The remixer has ties to many artists in Germany and New York, and furthermore, it is my understanding that the boot is in a *small* run by people respectful of artists' rights. There will be one source worldwide to find this particular record. This is not another Sony/UR situation. Although I do not know the remixer personally, I am familiar with his work. And since I haven't heard the remix yet I can't vouch for it being any good. We'll see in a couple of weeks when it come back from the plant. SYNTAX> Speaking of Sony/UR/Jaguar, please write to Syntax Distribution and encourage them to remove "Type - Jaguar" from their stock. I speak for (at least!) a few listmembers who were disappointed to see Syntax first send out a long mail detailing the copyright situation, only to find the Sony record in question added to their stock list 3 weeks later!! Surprisingly, Watts has not picked the cover up - in fact they are distributing Rolondo's Jaguar this week. Cheers to that, at least. Surprisingly enough, I haven't seen anything mentioned about the new kraftwerk release to celebrate the opening of some expo in Germany. It's an airy sounding funky track with all the kraftwerk ingredients (high Q snare, vocoder voices). I've heard someone mention that there's a whole new album coming out. Has it been released yet ? Speaking of Kraftwerk... Karl Bartos has just remixed 'Little Computer People' (the track that Anthony Rother re-made). It's out now on PSI49NET 004. But there was a rumour about them doing a 'Kraftwerk presents' where they hook up with US rappers like Foxy Brown, Juvenile, Kid Rock and some names I forgot, kinda re-doing the classics for the US. Just got this on white label from HardWax in Germany. It's the shit! The Kid Rock track ('Pocket Calculator') has nice MC505 drums, and a cool Bon Jovi guitar loop. :)~ Askew __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Re: (313) new kraftwerk
I heard about a particular someone doing a boot of Expo 2000... I don't really think they'd like me to say much more... You can look for it on 12" in a couple of weeks. Happy hunting :) Vince - Original Message - From: Cyclone Wehner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: 313 Detroit <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, February 15, 2000 9:00 PM Subject: Re: (313) new kraftwerk > > >Surprisingly enough, I haven't seen anything mentioned about the new > >kraftwerk release to celebrate the opening of some expo in Germany. (313) new kraftwerk
Has it been released yet ? regards, -Filip
