I'm interested in your rationale behind these statements, as yet you are to release them to us - you keep iterating the same point. Perhaps we're not worthy? If it's a pop record, then yes, Britney's t*ts must look bigger on the cover so that more people will buy it. This ain't pop music dude. As someone who has done label art on this list (and gee... there aren't many otheres on this list who have done it ;P), yes.. label art is important, but at no point is it so important that it's importance eclipses that of the music. What do you mean for no other reason? How a name looks and sounds is pretty important when designing a techno label. One reason KMS works is because K is at the beginning and M makes a good foundation giving K and S balance. I can see why Richie Hawtin used the letter K in Plastikman, because it doesn't look that bad with the style of font he is using. I like more simplistic Industrial design looking label designs like the old Transmat label which consisted of a Eurostyle font and logo. on 6/13/03 6:07 PM, Matthew Mangold at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In your original post, you write: The label name KMS works well using the letter k especially in caps, it's a nice short abbreviated word, the letter k is not being used as a clever substitution in a word. therefore, it works because those are his initials, and for no other reason-- regardless of whether or not it reflects proper design aesthetics. Re: (313) Richie Hawtin k
It's just a techno version of what heavy metal bands do change the i for a y, instead of a ck use an x (or better yet, xxx because it's dead sexy and the girls will get what you mean, wink wink) maybe Richie could put some umlauts over the a in Hawtin - or maybe spell his surname HOTin, or even Hotynn - just cause it looks awesome! Rychëe Hotynn - yeah, now that rawks (add some lightening bolts to both ends) MEK Garrett McGrath [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: FRED giannelli [EMAIL PROTECTED], 313@hyperreal.org 06/13/03 01:42 PMcc: Subject: Re: (313) Richie Hawtin k maybe it's really all just Enochian code. - Original Message - From: FRED giannelli [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: spw [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Friday, June 13, 2003 11:33 AM Subject: Re: (313) Richie Hawtin k Nah, Rich's stole the use of the letter k from Aliester Crowley. magic = magick music = musick musick=magick Ask Evil Clark... telepathic regards, the kooky scientist on 6/13/03 12:51 PM, spw at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I deleted my inbox but I remember someone implying Jeff Mills copied Richie Hawtin's use of the letter k for his new label. RE: (313) Richie Hawtin k
If I remember correctly, a few years ago (4 or 5) a thread was started blaming Richie Hawtin's blatent use of the letter K came from his participation in the KKK. So that must be where it comes from, since the people on this list are ALWAYS right... ha ha! Re: (313) Richie Hawtin k
The use of 'K's just make you seem more THREATENING. What would Korn be without the 'k'? They'd just be a vegetable: Corn. (This is also why Al Kooper seems more imposing than Alice Cooper, btw.) Kantaloupe (UNGH!) Cantaloupe (meep) See?
