Re: [AI] Separate department for disability affairs

2012-03-12 Thread avinash shahi
Wow! Cheery news indeed.
At least Government has come to recognise an independent body for disabled.
Certainly, great transformation is in the offing.
As far as its functionalities will be concerned, that will depend on
how disabled themselves will lobby and pressurise government to score
expectedly.
But, entire speech consisted of 105 items. talked more or less
illusory than practicalities.:☺☺

Re: [AI] Separate department for disability affairs

2012-03-12 Thread George Abraham
New department or no department, the bureaucrats and mindsets that will deal
with the disabled people will be the same. I do not see any significant
change in attitude or approach. It would be further perpetuation of the
charity raj. Blind people will get jobs and salaries but no assignments (for
example) 20 years down the line, we will be discussing the same issues.

Well, let us wait and see!

George

Separate department for disability affairs
Aarti Dhar

There was a ray of hope for differently-abled people in India on
Monday when President Pratibha Devisingh Patil announced a separate
Department of Disability Affairs in her speech on the first day of the
Budget session of Parliament. The Ministry of Civil Aviation also
decided to review the existing guidelines for persons with special
needs in the wake of a spate of incidents of discrimination faced by
them at airports across the country.

A separate Department of Disability Affairs is proposed to be set up
for greater focus on addressing issues confronting persons with
disabilities and the government is considering a new legislation for
persons with disabilities to replace the existing Act, the President
said in her speech — bringing cheer among the groups working in the
sector. At present, the disability sector is under the Ministry of
Social Justice and Empowerment, and partially under the Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also decided to set up a committee
to review the existing guidelines governing the screening process for
differently-abled persons at the airports.

Re: [AI] Separate department for disability affairs

2012-03-12 Thread Amit Bhatt
If the proposed separate department really comes in to existance, this step
of the Government would be highly appreciated, however, this should have
been done long time ago.

Better late than never.
In my personal opinion, problem arises when the non-disabled officials frame
out the policies for the disabled. there should be at least some disabled
officers or policy makers in such department where the things are planned
out for persons with disabilities.

dear Pranay Gadodia,

I am 35 years old and having two children. I had not diagnose my disease in

my backlog subjects. When i came to know that i am suffering from RP and i am
going to loss my sight in few years i plan to commit suceide but God's grace i
did not done that. I joined nivh and take Orientation and mobility traning.
Due to that course i improved my will power. later i joined Medical

later i joined marketing field, upto 2008 I used to ride my two wheeler in day

hello friends,
can someone help me with:
1. transfering pictures from the n72 to the computer
2. steps to using data cable of n72 for transfering pictures and contacts
3. transfering data from computers to the n72 cell.

I think, theoratically it should be as simple as connecting the datea
transfer cable to the mobile on the one side and the USB port on the
computer. but what if the external device is not recognised?
do i need to install something like nokia sweet like thing?? how to go
about doing that additional thing which is required to be done before
pictures and data can be transfered.
thanks

2012-03-12 Thread Beatriz Patricia QUISPE CARRANZA
Hi Rahul, congratulations for your decission! Certainly, to learn a
foreign language bring you the opportunity to meet more people, to
travel, to get a better knowledge of culture from different countries.
I am not so confident in French, but by sure I can help in Spanish!
I advice you to have a look in Google. You can find several pages
where you will find exercises, audios, videos and more. Then, when you
have some approach, you will feel more confident to join a real class,
and share with other students. Maybe you could find also a partner,
who want to exchange with you some group work and assignments.
Warm regards, Beatriz.

just type your complaint or suggestions and send it. nothing to do extra. no
syntax is required. i did not use any pre-defined syntax. i just typed
"please vacate handicap coach, train no.12855, next station is xxx" if you
know the station code will more be specific to serve. in my case and on the
very first trial it workd. i can't say whether it will work another cases or
not.

Hi Members,

I think it was indeed because of my phone memory being full I couldn’t
delete watsapp.
To be able to delete that 4 MB application I had to let go of some
important applications like daisy, ultimate recorder etc. from app
manager and installed files.

However, still the main culprits are files which are occupying my 47
MB named as ‘others’. This I got to know when I checked phone memory
details. And this others item is listed as the last; 6th.

SO I seek your guidance as to how do I clean these 46 MB files which
in my opinion are those complementary files which get accumulated as a
result of you installing various softwares in the phone.

Advanced is the appreciation for your help.

Re: [AI] regarding excel doubt

Hi Shabir,
You are absolutely wrong by assuming that the functions of various special
keys has not been tempered with by the manufacturers, in fact, all
notebooks/net books that are coming today under the brand of Dell and HP
have modified the functions of the special keys, in other words, they behave
the multimedia keys when pressed without any combination, and they give

I've used HP's elitebook earlier and probook currently. And also Dell
Inspiron. The function keys behave quite normal. Generally additional
functionality like switching on/off wifi, altering screen brightness, etc
are assigned to the function keys when pressed with the fn key near the CTRL
key. I don't think that the manufacturers tamper with the normal behavior of
general purpose keys on the keyboard.

Hi Shabir,
You are absolutely wrong by assuming that the functions of various special
keys has not been tempered with by the manufacturers, in fact, all
notebooks/net books that are coming today under the brand of Dell and HP
have modified the functions of the special keys, in other words, they behave
the multimedia keys when pressed without any combination, and they give
their original functionality when pressed in combination with the FN keys,
however, they are easily reversible by making some changes in the BIOS mode.

Regards

Re: [AI] Deleting junk files from c5

2012-03-12 Thread Jaison Bellarmine
I could not find any solution to this problems. What i am doing are the
following.
1. When I formatted my phone, I decided to make a back up of my phone for
facing similar situation. So I installed all the essential programmes and set
the phone with my favorable settings. When i took the back up, I checked all
the options in the phone back up window.
2. Took periodic back up of contact and messages.
3. In case of any formatting, I could restore the phone using these b2k up
files.
Hope this would help you.

Re: [AI] Fwd: RTE & President's address

2012-03-12 Thread sr mittal
I fully agree with your views. Infect, I would say that all options for all
children should be made available i.e. The choice should be that of the
parents of child with disability whether he/she wants his/her child to be
educated in inclusive/integrated/special school. Of course in the case of
child with severe multiple disability home-based education is the best at
least till the time he/she is able to benefit from any other option.

Dear Friends,

We in blindness community cannot completely do away with home based
education. In case of children with severe multiple disabilities, we have
to keep the option open and would have to insist that all modes of education
namely, inclusive schools, integrated education, special schools, homebased
education are available at any given time. I would be keen on knowing the
views of our list members. In case, this is considered off-topic then may
be privately. But this does require a fair amount of discussion and debate.

You should research first on something called the prosthetic eye. One of my

Check with LV Prasad Hospital at Hyderabad if that can be adviced for your

Re: [AI] regarding excel doubt

I've used HP's elitebook earlier and probook currently. And also Dell
Inspiron. The function keys behave quite normal. Generally additional
functionality like switching on/off wifi, altering screen brightness, etc
are assigned to the function keys when pressed with the fn key near the CTRL
key. I don't think that the manufacturers tamper with the normal behavior of
general purpose keys on the keyboard.

You can purchase datacards which works with 2g or 3g network. Huawei,
micromax, ZTE, beetel and some other non popular brands are available.
price is starting from Rs 1400, it may vary in your location. The main
problem of such datacards are, their softwares is not accessible. I am
using Huawei e1550 3G datacard. Its software is almost accessible but, this
is an old model.

Dear friends,

that we can use with our 2G or 3G sim cards for browsing internet. It
sounded really good that we can use any internet tariff with some low
cost vouchers as per our convenience. Can somebody help me with the

For Excel 2003, the checkbox lable is "Edit directly in cell". This checkbox
is present on the Edit tab of the multipage Options dialog box. Press
CTRL+TAB as many times required to navigate to the Edit tab of the dialog
box. Once you're there, press TAB as many times required to navigate to the
desired checkbox.

Then, there must be a number for every zone/division?

Sometimes, in their zeal, they also ask escorts to vacate.
It so happened when I was returning from Mumbai and they asked my escort

that she was my bona fide escort, and had a right to travel in handicapped

Hi, Remember that the in-build voiceover is available only with
I-phone 3gs and above. The 3g models don't include that feature.
Second, activating the voiceover with the latest software is very
easy. You just press the home key thrice in rapid siquence.

Hi Tiny
Loadstone surely works in India.
However, if you are expecting turn by turn navigation, LS is not designed
for it.

You do get point of interest for many parts of India including those
provided by Google maps and Open Source Maps.

I am not sure, it would be a very good idea spending for external
receivers as in the future when you buy a phone with onboard GPS receiver,
it will go waste.

If you use one of the newer phones which has accessible OVI maps, it gives
a richer experience as it gives turn by turn navigation.

[AI] Fwd: Technology Leads The Blind

Technology Leads The Blind
By ANGELO G. GARCIA
March 12, 2012, 3:23am

THREE-IN-ONE - This multi-functional prototype for the visually
impaired can detect obstacles to prevent any accidents and can also be
used as a mobile phone for sending and receiving calls and text
messages with it's own unique Braille keypad.

MANILA, Philippines - Technology has come a long way, even for persons
with disabilities (PWD).

There are mobile applications where speech may be converted to text
and vice versa, thus making it easier for persons with visual
impairment to send and receive text or email messages.

Engineers are also developing the use of robotic exoskeleton to enable
paraplegics to be mobile again.

Recently, a group of graduating Computer Engineering students from the
Mapua Institute of Technology stumbled upon an idea to help persons
with visual impairment communicate better and easier through an
innovative mobile invention.

The students designed the Wearable Obstacle Detection System, a device
that can detect obstacles in front of the user, and the Braille Cell
Phone that is equipped with a Braille keypad.

"We saw a blind person using her cell phone and we noticed how she
held the phone by her ear to listen to messages. It took her a long
time to type a message because of repeated mistakes. So we came up
with an idea to make a product that can make it easier for the blind
to use a mobile phone and at the same time help their mobility,"
explains team member Girly Perando, 21.

MULTIPLE FUNCTIONS IN ONE DEVICE

"The device has three main functions - call, text, and obstacle
detection. It detects obstacles using a simple infrared sensor,"
Perando explains.

For five months, they toiled to create the prototype - a box-like
device, the size of a notebook, that is two inches thick. It is
connected to a sensor and attached to a metal cane. It has a mobile
GSM module inside to enable it to send and receive calls and text
messages. The simple box has a numeric keypad in the middle, five
function buttons below it, and a Braille keypad above the numeric
keypad.

The obstacle detection sensor is connected to the box device via wire.
The sensor has two ''eyes" or infrared sensors that detect obstacle up
to five meters. It vibrates to warn the user.

On the other hand, the Braille keypad has six small knobs that bob up
and down to create the Braille character. A message that the device
receives is converted to Braille, which can then be read by the user.

The team had a difficult time designing the actual device since it has
multiple functions.

"We had a difficult time thinking how we would be able to fit the
components, make it smaller and integrate the main functions in a
single device," explains team member Kristine Emy Matabang, 20.

The team tested the prototype by collaborating with the Give Love
Assoociation for the Blind, Inc.

A WINNING PROJECT

The device is still in the prototype stage and needs a lot of work but
it was interesting enough for the judges of the 8th Smart Wireless
Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) Innovation and Excellence Awards
to choose it to receive the championship trophy.

The team from Mapua was named as the overall champion in the recent
student competition which is an annual search for the most innovative
wireless applications conducted by Smart Communications.

The Mapua team bested 142 other entries submitted by student-teams
from Smart's partner schools under SWEEP. The team received R500,000
as cash prize, while their school received a grant in the same amount.

"We believed in the value of our design. We were so overwhelmed
because it made us feel that hard work really pays off," says team
leader Janiena Roxanne Dirain.

They plan to continue developing their prototype so it will actually
benefit the blind community, the main inspiration for this project.
They hope to see the day when the device is being used by persons with
visual impairment in the future.

"To people with visual impairment, you are the inspiration behind our
project. We are doing our best to make it available for you in the
near future," 21-year-old Dirain says.

"Since we are all graduating students, we are looking forward to work
on the product even after school. We believe that this will open doors
to greater opportunities," Matabang ends.

Re: [AI] No more worried of read only calender boxes

2012-03-12 Thread Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala
I checked the URL you mentioned in the below email in IE 8 and found
that the calendar is accessible with the help of a little learning. Of
course, there is no problem with the checkboxes and buttons on the
page. Here are some tips for you to use the calendar icon that appears
next to the read only textbox.

1. Press E to navigate to the read only date textbox. Press DOWN arrow
key to navigate to the graphical icon for the calendar. JAWS reads it
as "link graphic images slash cal".
2. Route JAWS cursor to PC by pressing INSERT+P for laptop keyboard
layout or INSERT+NUMPAD MINUS on desktop keyboard layout.
3. Activate the LEFT mouse button. A table opens at the bottom of the
page. This is the calendar for data entry. Press DOWN arrow to hear
the current month along with current year.
4. If you wish to select a date in the current month then press just
arrow down to it and press ENTER.
5. The following symbols can be used to change the month/year:
a. « or left double angle bracket: 1 year back
b. » or right double angle bracket: 1 year forward
c. unlabelled symbol to the left of Today: 1 month back
d. unlabelled symbol to the right of Today: 1 month forward
6. After changing the month/year to the required values you just need
to arrow down to the date and press ENTER on it. The calendar closes
and the selected date appears in the read only textbox.

Let me know if you have more questions.

If my memory is correct, E63 has an in-build gps rceiver. If so, then you can
certainly use loadstone in India. There are some points available for India on
the point share web page and you can also utilize open maps and some other
tools. To learn about them, visit:

Subject: [AI] Suggestions required while purchasing data card
From: vikram babu
Date: 12/03/2012 12:44 pm

Dear friends,

One of my friend informed me that there are some data cards available
that we can use with our 2G or 3G sim cards for browsing internet. It
sounded really good that we can use any internet tariff with some low
cost vouchers as per our convenience. Can somebody help me with the
prize and the technical details like the speed and a good branded data
card? I also would like to know that “what all things are to be
considered or taken care while purchasing a data card?” your quick
information will help me to purchase a good data card. Please friends!
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No sir, recently I have not consulted any Doctors, Last in the year
2000 I had been to Shanker Netralayam in Chennai they suggested for
Cornio Grafting but they gave only 50% guarantee, so I left it in 1992
Lions Eye hospital in Bangalore had operated my eyes for Glaucoma
Tension then they had suggested me to use Pilocar 2% and Glucomol 5%
eye drops thrice and twice respectively at that time my age was 17
years but now I am 37 years since then my eye sight is stagnent, I am
scared if I go to Doctors they will harm my eyes because that I do not
go to any Doctors since 2000 but now I am well, I want to preserve my
eye sight till old age. Vivek 919868954833

Hi Murali,

Yes, you can go for Apple products if the budget permits:-) You do not
require to install any screen reader etc. on it. Apple products comes with
in-built accessibility tools such as Voice Over Screen reader and Zoom for
low vision etc. Most of the applications (at least, so far I have used) are
accessible. I use Apple iPad and iPhone and use them for communication,
reading news, books, sharing, social on Twitter and FB and of course, I do
use it to isten to music as well as playing a few games like Chess...

You can find all accessibility related information on Apple products at

Re: [AI] Fwd: RTE & President's address

2012-03-12 Thread Ketan Kothari
Dear Friends,

We in blindness community cannot completely do away with home based
education. In case of children with severe multiple disabilities, we
have to keep the option open and would have to insist that all modes
of education namely, inclusive schools, integrated education, special
schools, homebased education are available at any given time. I would
be keen on knowing the views of our list members. In case, this is
considered off-topic then may be privately. But this does require a
fair amount of discussion and debate.

I suggest that you consult Lions Eye Hospital at Bangalore to help further
retain your vision. As of date there is surgery to control the pressure but no

You can find all accessibility related information on Apple products at
http://www.apple.com/accessibility/

Hope this helps,

Can you throw some light on different apple products in terms of their
compatibility with our speech softwares and our accessibility?
Can we go for the latest arrivals such as I pad 3 etc?

Re: [AI] regarding excel doubt

2012-03-12 Thread Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala
It's possible that the "direct edit in cells" feature is disabled in
Excel. The below steps would help you enable it:

1. Open Tools menu with ALT+T.
2. Select Options by pressing O.
3. Select "Advanced" in the Category listbox.
4. Check the checkbox labelled "Allow editing directly in cells". The
shortcut for this checkbox is ALT+E after selecting "Advanced" in the
Category listbox.
5. Activate the OK button to apply the change and close the dialog box.

Even the in-build screen reader on Mak computers have been improving
to a considerable extent. Overall, I can say that the out of box
experience with apple is truely admirable from the accessibility point
of view.

Re: [AI] new to this family

2012-03-12 Thread Eyeway Helpdesk
Hi Shaik Sazid,
We were not sure why are you doing B.Ed given your experience in sales, so this
email.
Perhaps you can take your selling experience forward either in private or
public sector? You might have to change your function a bit, but not altogether.
Or is it that you realised you are really passionate about teaching and so
starting afresh.
We have few people on this group who are in business development in companies.
Also you could do well in places like banks etc.

If you want you may discuss it on this group with all of us. Or if you need to
talk, feel free to give us a call on our helpdesk number mentioned below and we
can brainstorm.
