[AI] Session on financial planning, tax saving and ITR filing this 19th July at University Club House

2014-07-08 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Greetings from the Blind Graduates Forum of India!

As part of our monthly knowledge sharing events, this time we present
you a session which will help you understand how the financial
planning works, how can the minimum savings be maximized to give
greater returns, what investments can save your income tax, and
finally how can one file income tax returns. It is important to have
knowledge about these aspects even though a large part of it is taken
care by your employers.

So, join us in the session on 19th July 2014, from 3 P.M. to 6.30 P.M.
at the Students' International Hall, 1st Floor, University Club House,
B Road, Churchgate.

Saving is an important part of everyone's life. A well planned saving
can get your children the required education without much of a hassle,
offer you the feeling of being secured even after your retirement,
allow you to maximize your returns from the limited investments And so
much more, which we never even think of till we have an ongoing job.

All this sounds great, but the question is that in this era of
highinflation, how can one really save?

We at BGFI, answer this question with the help of our experts who are
working as Chartered Accountant and Financial Advisor to a leading
company.

What's even better, you can send us your queries in advance, and we'll
make sure that they are answered by our experts during the session! We
encourage even those who are not residing in Mumbai to send us their
queries.

We realize it's Monsoon that's why we have chosen the University Club
House keeping everyone's convenience in mind. Do you have any problem
due to mobility issues? Never mind, the venue itself is quite
comfortable to reach using any mode of transport you prefer. Even
then, if you have an issue coming from the station or the bus stop to
the venue, give us a call in advance, and we'll do our best to cater
to your requirements.

So, what are you waiting for? Send your queries to
contact.b...@gmail.com latest by 11:59:59 P.M. of July 12th, 2014
(Saturday).

Continuing with our every year's independence day's celebrations, we
will be organizing a one day trek on 15th August, 2014. Details of
which will be intimated in due course.

Have queries? Call Ms. Shaila D'souza on: +91-9820708023.

We look forward for your strong and encouraging participation!

Thanks and Regards,
the BGFI Team

[AI] BGFI's Opening Session for 2016 - Accessible India Campaign - Open Session on how Individuals sensitize Corporates on Accessibility

2016-01-03 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)!

What could be a better way to usher in the year 2016 than being a
part of an Open Session on how individuals sensitize corporates on
accessibility?

As part of BGFI's January session we invite you to join us for a
healthy discussion on "Accessible India Campaign".

How often have you been disappointed with organizations and government
for being insensitive towards your accessibility needs?
How often did you feel hopeful whenever somebody moved ahead towards
breaking those barriers?
How often did you feel like playing your role as an individual to
sensitize organizations and contribute towards making the environment
accessible for yourself?

If your answer to any of the above question is yes, the upcoming BGFI
session is for you. Please join Sagar Soda for an open discussion on
how an individual can make corporates make their products and services
accessible for the blind. We also have a special session on using
“Accessible India Campaign”, a mobile app that was launched by the
Indian Government on World Disable Day this year to make India
accessible for PWD.

About our presenter - Sagar Sodah:
Sagar Sodah, a passionate mobile app developer, works as Project
Manager at CMSS in Malad, Mumbai. Like many of us, Sagar believes the
role of technology is to help build a better society and strives to
use technology to help solve social issues. His achievements include
- Work on the android app released on December 3rd, 2015 in Delhi as
part of the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan.
- Building the Talking ATM Locator Android app to help visually
impaired people find
Talking ATMs on the go.
- Representing BGFI in a team that includes XRCVC and other
accessibility activists which is working with the MCGM in building
Accessibility guidelines in the DCR which it is revising along with
the Mumbai Development Plan

It’s an open session, so special invitation for those who have
experience in dealing with corporate and government officials in
making the environment accessible. The expertise towards sensitizing
corporates through business cases, technical know-how, legal policies,
and other smart techniques is what you can look for in this session.

Individuals inspire change, and when many individuals get together, it
becomes a movement!

[AI] BGFI's Picnic 2016 - Registrations open until the 31st of January to join in a weekend at Z Bac

2016-01-24 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from BGFI!

So far, we have received an enthusiastic response from members and
would like to take this opportunity to clarify some queries which have
been raised by picnic participants. If you happen to be apprehensive
about Adventure Paradise, the below listed FAQs will certainly
reassure you and who knows...you might just be a step away from
registering
yourself and or your friend / escort! So what are you waiting for?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is adventure sports safe for people with visual impairment?
It is indeed safe; you just have to follow the instructions of the
trainers / guide. All safety precautions and arrangements are taken.
For instance you are connected to a rope that holds you during the
adventure activities.

How does a blind person do wall climbing, rappelling, river crossing, etc.?
In addition to the general techniques followed by most, you use touch
and feel methods using hands and foot. Clear verbal description by the
guide and proper interpretation of the same by the blind person works
well. Z-Bac trainers and the escorts will guide us wherever required.
A few BGFI members who are blind and have done such adventure
activities will also be with us.

I am not sure if I am fit enough to do adventure activities. How do I decide?
There are options for activities that require different levels of
fitness. So you will have choice. Adventure activities will help you
assess your physical and mental strength and guides you to work on it.
For those lazy brats, it really motivates you to work on your fitness!
In case you have any health issues, kindly let us know in advance so
that we can advise appropriately.

I don’t exercise; will I be able to do it?
It’s not just about physical strength always; it’s also about mental
strength. If you have belief in yourself, you certainly can! You have
to start somewhere right? Why not start and explore with this
experience.

I have already registered. Any immediate preparation required?
You still have around 15 days, full body stretching exercises / yoga
can be of great help. Don’t overdo it if you have not exercised for a
long time, increase the intensity gradually. We will create a Whatsapp
group for all participants and share a list of things to carry and
other details with you shortly.

Can I make up my mind and register even after Sunday, January 31st, 2016?
The Z Bac team will be blocking accommodation for the BGFI group so a
confirmed number of participants are required to be decided upon by
the end of this month after which registrations will be closed.

Pasted below the details of the Picnic for one more glance!

[AI] BGFI April 2016 Session - Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

2016-03-29 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)!

After the grand success of our adventurous picnic to Z-Bac, lets now
advance to our next monthly knowledge sharing session in April which
will be on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) by Priyadarshinii SS.

To answer the first question that enters your mind - What is NLP?
NLP, at its most basic level, is how a human brain work, how people
learn, think, motivate themselves and change. It offers impressive
potential for improving communication and creativity and enables you
to learn how to live up to your own potential.

How can NLP help you?
IN YOUR CAREER
- Get what you want by effectively managing your internal mindset and
influencing others to happily work with you to achieve your dreams
- Overcome the hurdles which prevent you from taking your business or
career to the next level
- Learn how to motivate yourself and others with ease
- Learn to use language with greater precision and elegance so that
you and others can get what you want
- Think better, think more clearly and make better decisions

WITHIN YOURSELF AND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
- Quickly identify and blast through the limitations that are holding
you back in life... Once you break through these, your personal life
will never be the same again.
- Master your subconscious mind so that you can learn more quickly
than traditional teaching methods could ever allow
- Learn things about yourself that you didn’t know before
- Master your own emotions so that you handle all eventualities easily
- Gain that vital edge that makes you a far more effective and
powerful communicator
- Enhance your personal relationships
- Develop instant confidence

A little more about our speaker -
Priyadarshinii is a certified master practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic
Programming. She has used her skills at high performance to coach more
than 500 clients to be successful in their goals, be it their career,
relationship, finance, health, personality, etc. Most of the time, one
conversation with her client has enable them to be confident,
opportunistic & blissful in life.
She has also authored a deeply inspirational and philosophical book -
“MindTransformer”. This book has been greatly reviewed one of whom is
Mr. Dyaneshwar Mulay – Consul General of India, New York. He writes,
“Priyadarshinii is brilliant in her observations about people, life
and experiences, but what strikes the most is her sensitivity and
deeply philosophical conclusions along with her empathy to others.”
She is qualified as a Bio medical engineer from Mumbai University &
has done her Masters in Business Administration from Singapore. She
has worked as a business executive for 2 years in Transasia Biomedical
Ltd Mumbai. She has also worked as a success coach for School of
Excellence.
Since 2011, Priyadarshinii is suffering from a rare & incurable
disease called MPGN-2 which leads to loss of vision, mobility, motor
functions & eventually … life. However, this has not halted her zeal
or enthusiasm to create new dreams & chase them. She chooses to
embrace life & believes that none of us have the unconditional promise
of tomorrow, no matter how healthy we are today.
The key for her recovery was realising that she was more than just the
circumstances of her body and that she could create new dreams and
chase them too. Each day she is exploring different ways to happiness,
new ways to relax and recharge and rejuvenate. And this wonderful
endeavour she will be sharing with us by authoring another story of
hope, faith, courage, fight, trials, challenges and grace - a true
story based on her fight for life against all odds.

[AI] BGFI Presence Yoga Workshop on 29th March!

2015-03-04 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from the Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)!

This time, we touch upon an entirely new dimention of life, that is
fitness. Growth of an individual in its true sense means physical,
intellectual, mental and spiritual growth. That is what shapes you as
a person all together.

In the hustle and bustle of life, we at times forget this truth and
focus on our growth in a narrower sense.

This time, with the expertise of Dr. Priti Sharma who works as a Yoga
Therapist, we bring you an opportunity to learn the key to fitness be
it physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.

In Dr. Sharma's words, "Yoga is an Indian system of Health and
Healing. While Yoga is a practice that integrates all of the senses as
a means to being present, it does not mean that a disability in one of
the senses makes a person any less able as a practitioner. When one of
our senses that receives information from the outside world is as all
diminished, it provides the opportunity to more fully concentrate on
the others. In some ways, this actually facilitates the practice of
Yoga, which asks of us to draw our attention inward, a fitting
practice."

This will be a one day event, starting from 9 in the morning and
ending around 5 in the evening.

The sessions to be conducted are as follows:

1. Interactive Session with a view to find out concerns, queries, and
expectations;
2. Physical Practices- Breathing& Meditation;
3. Lunch 1 hour - Moderate lunch introducing the concept of nutrition
/ diet, Home -made Food;
4. Light practices;
5. Intense Pranayam;

The session will be conducted in Boriwali West, and the exact
coordinates will be informed to the registered participants.

The cost per participant for the session is kept at Rs. 300/-
(excluding any other charges which may be incurred), which includes a
water bottle, refreshments, lunch, and evening tea / coffee.

Full payment confirms your participation; which is a non-refundable
amount if for any reason you are not able to participate.

[AI] BGFI - Minutes - Open House Discussion on Potential & Existing Bankers

2015-03-04 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates Forum of India (BGFI)!

Considering the large requests which we have been getting from people
who could not attend this session, we are happy to share the Minutes
of the Open House Discussion for
Potential & Existing Bankers which was held in November 2014.

BLIND GRADUATES FORUM OF INDIA

Date - Saturday, 29th November 2014
Venue: XRCVC, St. Xavier's College.
Minutes - Open House Discussion on Banking

Note: participants list is omitted for privacy protection.

Issues/Concerns of the VI Banker or VI Customer

list of 7 items
1. List of Issues faced by Customer at ground level
list of 5 items
* Non issuance of ATM Cards to the VI account holders
* Locker facility either not provided or provided to the VI account
holder on signing an indemnity form
* Cheque book facility not provided to VI account holder
* Certain banks open only joint account for a VI individual (e.g.
Union Bank Fort Branch)
* Filling up of pay-in-slip or other forms not possible for a VI and
sometimes bank employees are not forthcoming
list end nesting level 1
2. Lack of awareness of Branch Managers and staff at the branches
w.r.t. facilities that are available especially for the VI. Also the
list of these facilities
should be made available to the VI customers too so that they can
request for the same without relying on the bank branch to provide
such information.

list end

list of 1 items
3. Each bank should have an accessibility cell having VI bankers as
the members ensuring that the rights and needs of the other VI bankers
and VI customers
are met with
list end

list of 1 items
4. Internet and Intranet sites of the bank should be accessible to the
VI person. For most banks, the sites are not accessible at all. And
for some bank
where the sites are made accessible, it is not up to the mark e.g.
when an image is encountered, the site just says picture but does not
indicate the name
of the image, or sometimes it just says button but not the name of the
button - so here there are issues with labelling. Preferably, if these
sites have
an option to submit a technical fault w.r.t the site, then these
issues can be highlighted to the bank.
list end

list of 1 items
5. In most banks, VI customers using thumb impression are denied most
of the facilities like cheques, ATM cards, etc. Also for bank that
provide cheque
facilities, cheques get bounced quite often since the thumb impression
on the cheque is smudged or not verifiable. Need an adequate solution
for this

list of 1 items
6. Transactions using biometrics at the branch level need to be
initiated for branch level transactions e.g. to operate lockers, fund
transfers, new cheque
book issuance, debit/credit card issuances, etc. where signatures are
needed. This will be beneficial not only for VI but also for elderly
and orthopedically
challenged persons who are not able to sign or illiterate customers.
list end

list of 1 items
7. Talking ATMs to be provided by all banks - need a deadline for
this. Also old ATMs should be replaced with talking ATMs
list end

list of 1 items
8. Ramps for orthopedically challenged individuals for easy
accessibility to the branches and ATMs
list end

list of 1 items
9. Induction training given to all bank employees should include a
topic on accessibility to disabled customers.
list end

list of 1 items
10. Passbook printing - the VI banker has to rely on the customer
providing the correct account number for the passbook printing. Also
if a big bunch of
passbooks are provided then the VI banker will not be able to process
the same till someone reads the account numbers. Possible solution -
using bar code
for the account number with an accessible bar code reader - this will
be useful for all the bankers (not just VI bankers) since this will
reduce clerical
errors when typing out the account number.
list end

list of 1 items
11. Bank managers are not aware what work can be given to the VI employees.
list end

list of 1 items
12. Accessibilities issues with the core banking software used in the

[AI] Last Chance: BGFI Presence Yoga Workshop on 29th March-Register by 25th!

2015-03-18 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)

The event is scheduled for March 29th (Sunday).

The sessions to be conducted are as follows:

Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates Forum of India (BGFI)!

This Sunday, we invite you along with family / friends to a show at
the Nehru Planetarium followed by a walk through an Art Exhibition.

Wouldn’t it be a magnificent experience “feeling the art” – paintings
which even the blind can see? Happen to hear about the Pune artist
Chintamani Hasabnis's paintings? It was the sight of a visually
challenged lady crossing a busy road in Pune that made Hasabnis think
of how he could help the visually Challenged enjoy a visual art like
painting. Hasabnis is showcasing 22 of his paintings at Mumbai's Nehru
Centre in an exhibition titled 'Closed Eyes Open Minds'. Part of the
proceeds will be used to aid the visually challenged, including
making books in Braille for them.

[AI] BGFI November session - Importance of extensive reading by Amrut Deshmukh & Knowledge capsules on mobile apps at Kamala Mehta School for the Blind!

2016-11-16 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates Forum of India (BGFI)!

To make the November knowledge sharing session an enriching experience for our
members, we intend to cover two topics:

1. Importance of extensive reading by Amrut Deshmukh.

2. Knowledge capsules on mobile apps

Session One

Wouldn't you wish to meet with this crazy book lover. He is on an
interesting mission to cultivate the habit of reading among youth -
“Make India Read”.
Amrut Deshmukh, C.A. by education reads one bestselling book every
week and summarizes it so that one can read the same book in just 20
minutes! What is
more special for us is that he also records the book summary in his own voice.

To take this mission to lakhs of Indians, he has launched a Free Android App
called “Booklet” available on Playstore. Please find below the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.booklet.apphl=en

Session two

Have you found it difficult to use navigation in your mobile phone?
Are you still apprehensive on using Mobile banking? Do you find it
difficult to order
food and shop online? Then this session is only for you! We will be
having an introduction to a special knowledge capsule series by Ajay

[AI] BGFI’s Tribute to Priyadarshinii - Launch of the book “MindTransformer” on Kindle and Bookshare.

2016-12-01 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

BGFI is honored to launch the book “MindTransformer” By Priyadarshinii
on Bookshare.
. You will recall the enlightening April 2016 Knowledge Sharing
session with BGFI on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) at Kamala
Mehta School Dadar. She had wished to make this book available in
accessible format and Ms. Madhuri, her mother supported in fulfilling
her wish. Priyadarshinii is no more with us. However her inspiring
perspectives and experiences will enlighten us for ever. this Is
BGFI’s humble tribute to her. We thank the Bookshare team for
facilitating and supporting us in publishing the book for over 2.3
lakh print disabled worldwide.

A little more about the author-

Priyadarshinii Was a certified master practitioner of
Neuro-Linguistic Programming. She had used her skills at high
performance to coach more than 500 individuals to be successful in
their goals, be it their career, relationship, finance, health,
personality, etc. Most of the time, one Conversation with her client
has enable them to be confident, opportunistic & blissful in life.
She had authored a deeply inspirational and philosophical book -
“MindTransformer”. This book has been greatly reviewed by Mr.
Dyaneshwar Mulay – Consul General of India, New York. He writes,
“Priyadarshinii is brilliant in her observations about people, life
and experiences, but what strikes the most is her sensitivity and
Deeply philosophical conclusions along with her empathy to others.”

Since 2011, Priyadarshinii was suffering from a rare & incurable
disease called MPGN-2 which leads to loss of vision, mobility, motor
functions & eventually ... life. Smilingly fighting a long battle with
her incurable condition, Priyadarshinii's inspirational soul departed
for heavenly aboard in August .

You can download the book from the below link. Just download, unzip in
a new folder and open from FS reader or any other daisy book reader to
read it.

[AI] Important instructions for BGFI picnic participants

2017-02-04 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
HI all,

Let’s get ready to have another unique picnic experience! Important
information for all those who are coming for the BGFI Picnic.

• We start from Dadar East at 6:00 am on 11th February. Meeting point
is in front of Swami Narayan Temple. Remember we head straight to the
Army Base Workshop and they definitely expect us to be punctual.
• The bus will stop at Navi Mumbai; Vashi station & Panvel
McDonalds. People joining from these stops
need to inform us in advance.
• People staying far may plan to stay with friends / relatives
overnight close by to avoid morning rush.
• Carry the right change to pay the picnic cost while boarding in case
you have not paid fully.

What to bring:
Our aim is to show you how to camp. Hence, a few things are ESSENTIAL
for every individual to carry so that you have a smile on your face:
• Bag: A SMALL sturdy backpack that keeps your hands free to store ALL
your belongings. Fold your clothes and arrange them properly to
distribute the weight evenly on your back.
• An Open Mind: mother nature and the outdoors are unpredictable.
Despite best preparations, due to climatic factors our schedule may
not go as planned but would work in the best interest of our group. In
such an event, spirits mustn’t get dampened but be eager to explore
something new.
• Hydration: MINIMUM 3 liters of water at all times.
• Footwear: Strong and comfortable closed Shoes and an extra
pair of socks.
• Comfortable clothing: Considering the winter, two T- shirts, 2
pants and a pair of warm clothes should be ideal. Do remember the
innerwears!
• Personal medication: Any personal medication that you require. We
will have a wilderness first aid responder at the camp in case
required.
• The night will be cold but we will provide a sleeping bag.
• Tooth brush, toothpaste, comb, hand sanitizer, mosquito repellant
and tissues. An extra water bottle helps in rationing water and
keeping it light.
• Light: A powerful torch with extra batteries for those who
might need it.
• Light Food: While some like to sleep at night, some like to stay up
talking to people. That's when those packets of chips, biscuits,
samosas and munchies come out. We love this part too! Apart from the
delicious stuff some people get, conversations spark too and before
you know it, it’s sunrise!

Let’s prepare well for a great experience! Do message / call in case
of any queries.

Regards,

Team BGFI

[AI] BGFI Picnic 2017!!!

2017-03-05 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Hi all,

Though its slightly delayed, Please find a short note below sharing
our experience at BGFI's recent picnic.

On a calm and refreshing morning of 11 Feb, The BGFI team was all set
for yet another exciting picnic with above 40 participants from all
parts of Mumbai. The fact that more than 30 participants were blind
didn’t hamper anybody’s excitement as they were set to have wonderful
weekend with their friends. The excitement increased manifold when the
group arrived at its first destination which was The Ammunitions
factory in Khadki, Pune. The group spent next few hours learning about
the manufacturing process of the battel tanks. Barring 1-2 people, it
was a completely new experience for almost all of the participants.
The fact that they were allowed to touch every part of a tank and a
running machine was stopped just to show its working to the visually
impaired made it completely inclusive and informative. The staff at
factory was also thrilled to meet so many visually impaired persons
who are well settled in their lives and they left no stone unturned to
ensure that the participants had a good time. After a scrumptious
lunch, the next stop was a camp side in Velhe village near Pune. The
Idea was to provide a real camping experience to the participants. As
our partners, The Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation did a
wonderful job at organising the camping. the evening was well spent
with the participants learning tent pitching followed by a lot of
fun-filled group activities and a bonfire.

Come the morning, the participants were all set for a short treck and
water activities. Everyone felt a sense of responsibility and teamwork
during the raft-building competition. It was a grate enjoyment to
float in the lake using same rafts which were built by the
participants. For a lot of them, it was the first time they were in
waters and they made the most of this opportunity. As all wonderful
things come to an end, The group returned to Mumbai on Sunday night
with countless memories to cherish and a whole bunch of new friends to
hang out with in future. We are especially thankful to the Adventures
Beyond Barriers Foundation who ensured that every participant gets to
enjoy every activity regardless his/her disability. We look forward to
increase our collaboration in future.

Thanks and regards,
The BGFI Team

[AI] Campaign for accessible Indian currency for the blind

2017-08-30 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

The new currency notes of Rs. 50, Rs. 200 and Rs. 500 are not
accessible for the blind. This will make our daily living more
challenging. We would need to sensitize authorities and masses and
work with them to come up with accessible Indian currency. Blind
Graduates Forum of India team has initiated a few actions. Many
campaigns have failed as very few people talk about it and write to
authorities and hence we would need to unite to make it happen.

Below are the problems identified and an action plan, would need your
contribution, suggestions and leadership to have a sustained effort on
this.

Problems identified:
• Length of all the new notes is the same, which
Increases difficulty to identify and count the notes. The only way for us to
identify is by feeling the length and breadth of the notes on our
hands.
• The variation between the new Rs. 50 note and Rs. 10 note is
just 3 MM. Also the variation between the new Rs. 50 note and the new
Rs. 200 note is just 4 MM, which is extremely difficult for people
with visual impairment to perceive.
• The bleed lines on all the relevant notes including the new
Rs. 50, Rs. 200, Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 are of no help in identifying
the notes. It is also not a practical solution to count bundles of
notes. An average blind person cannot feel the bleed lines readily and
they get blurred with repeated use.
• Coexistence of old and new currencies makes it very complex to count.

Action Plan:
• Invite NGOs, individuals and informal teams to unite in
strengthening the voice on the subject.
• Draft a letter for the Prime minister’s Office, the Prime minister
and the RBI authorities by 31st August. We will share the letter
template with you. You as an individual and organization can use the
letter as template and send to the above authorities.
• Launch a campaign on social media by 2nd September to sensitize
masses. We will share the link of the Facebook and Twitter posts with
you, would need your support in sharing and spreading the word.
• Seek for support and guidance from competent legal experts and File
a PIL by 30th September with a view to find a long-term solution on
making Indian currency accessible.
• Circulate contact details of Man Ki Baat for people to send their
message on accessible currency to the Prime Minister one week before
the next broadcast.
• Collaborate with an agency or educational institute to Conduct a
detail research on accessibility issues with Indian currency and
propose design solutions. Please connect with us if you have an expert
research and design team.
• Post questions on PRS Legislative Research website and encourage
parliamentarians to ask questions on accessible currency during the
parliament sessions.

Hoping for your active participation.

Re: [AI] Campaign for accessible Indian currency for the blind, sharing ready made letters for you

2017-08-31 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear all,

You must have noted the mail from Blind Graduates Forum of India on
the action plan to make a unified effort for accessible Indian
currency for the blind. Thank you for your suggestions and interest.
Here is the first step, which is sensitizing the Indian leadership for
which all of us can contribute. Remember the authorities are likely to
consider only if they receive hundreds of letters and mails.
Therefore, it is essential that all of us as individuals and
organizations contribute by investing a few valuable minutes.

To make it simple for you, we have drafted 3 letters (one each for
Prime minister, Prime minister’s Office and RBI Governor). It is all
ready made for you to use. Please follow the below mentioned steps:
1. Download the zip file which has 3 letters from the link given below
2. Ad / type your name and credentials at the end of each of the letters.
3. Take a printout and remember to put your signatures on all the letters.
4. Send the letters to the three postal address provided below.
5. Copy the content of the letter and send separate emails to the
email IDs and grievance link provided below.

Here is the link to download the letters:

Below are the 3 postal addresses:
1. Honorable Prime Minister of India
7 Race Course Road
New Delhi-110011.

2. Honorable Prime Minister of India
Web Information Manager
South Block, Raisina Hill
New Delhi-110011.

3. Dr. Urjit R Patel
Governor
Reserve Bank of India
Shaheed Bhaghatsingh Road
Mumbai-41.

Apart from sending the letter by post, it is essential also to send
the request by mail. The mails can also be used as evidence in the
court to prove that the blind people across the country need
accessible Indian currency, in case required. So it will be good if
you could mark BGFI in CC for records.

Below are the email IDs:
1. RBI
urjitpa...@rbi.org.in, gover...@rbi.org.in
Copy the mail to BGFI on
contact.b...@gmail.com

2. Prime minister’s Office
conn...@mygov.nic.in
CC the mail to BGFI on
contact.b...@gmail.com

3. Send your message as grievance to the Prime minister by pasting the
letter content in the below online form. This is also monitered
separately.
http://www.pmindia.gov.in/en/interact-with-honble-pm/

Feel free to change the content of the letters if you wish to
improvise. Let us know in case of any queries or issues with the
links. Will appreciate if you could drop us a line if you manage to
successfully send the letters.

We are the best people who can raise the issue and sensitize the
authorities, isn’t it? Shall we do it together then?
Thanks and regards,
Blind Graduates Forum of India.

[AI] Congratulations! 2000 signatures on accessible Indian Currency petition! and a worrying development

2017-10-04 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Hi all,

Congratulations! We have crossed 2000 signatures through our
Accessible Indian Currency petition in less than 100 hours! This level
of support definitely has contribution of many of you and much needed
from each one of us. It is indeed an important milestone of achieving
10% of our targeted 20,000 signatures. In fact you can track the
number of signatures real time by clicking the below link. Worth
saving it in your favorites / bookmark to keep following the score! If
you haven’t still signed, why not right now by clicking the below
link. All you need to do is read the page, enter your name, email id,
and submit. You will receive an email from change.org and click on the
link provided in the mail. Do remember to make it public while sharing
on Facebook (in case you use Facebook).
http://tinyurl.com/AccessibleCurrencyPetition

There is a worrying development. A recent Economic Times article says
that RBI is going to come up with new 100-rupee notes shortly. If they
go as per their original plan, the size difference between 50 and 100
and 200 will be just 2mm each. Factor 0.5mm error margin that they
have defined and additional 1mm due to shrinkage of note as people
keep folding the notes. Therefore, the size of these notes are going
to be so similar that it will be practically impossible for a blind
person to identify independently.
It becomes more important for us to intensify our campaign now and
spend lot more effort. It is time to involve your family members,
colleagues, online groups, social work groups, etc. We will be sharing
ready-made mails targeting different segments that you can keep
forwarding to your network. Just forwarding is not effective. Reach
out to your close ones in person and ask them to sign the petition,
share on Facebook and further spread the word.

In addition, we have just sent a comprehensive representation to RBI
and Finance Ministry highlighting all our issues with accessing notes,
coins, websites, mobile apps and ATMs. In addition, proposed specific
solutions based upon the comprehensive national and international
study that was done, including inputs from a few of you. The
representation will have lot more value if the same is endorsed by
many NGOs working for blind. That is when it will be seen as a problem
faced by not just one group, but the whole country. So if you are an
NGO and willing to take a lead, please share your email id and name of
the organization on this mail or drop a mail to contact.b...@gmail.com
We will share the representation with you within 3 days. All you would
need to do is sign and send. Of course, feel free to improvise. Also
do spread the word among persons with visual impairment connected with
your NGO.

Remember, it is our campaign and each one of us will have to lead it
to hope for a solution.

Thanks and regards,
Vishal

[AI] Inviting experiences & stories for the Accessible Indian Currency Campaign.

2017-10-08 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
  Hi All,

As we take the Accessible Indian Currency campaign further, we are
looking to co-late on ground stories from experiences of blind and
visually challenged individuals or entrepreneurs on how handling cash
on a day-to-day basis has led to a direct negative impact on the
livelyhood and independence of over 5.2 million blind citizens in
India.

We therefore invite you to share your stories or connect us with
others who might have experiences to share. You may do so by dropping
us an email on contact.b...@gmail.com or reach Payal Jethra via
call or whatsapp on 7303448295.

We’re glad to have you all with us as we run together the biggest
possible social media campaign and ensure our voice is heard and acted
upon immediately!

Thanks and regards,
Team Blind Graduates Forum of India.

[AI] What’s happening on the Accessible Indian Currency Campaign?

2017-10-28 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Hi all,

Here are the responses / updates to a few of the reactions and queries
that we have received regarding Accessible Indian Currency. Feel free
to add to the queries as well as the responses.

1. I wonder if the notes are such a big issue.
You will not have this doubt if you have felt the new 50 and 200 rupee
notes, Can you independently identify 1 and 2 rupee coins? We are
heading towards a similar situation with increasing circulation of the
new inaccessible notes.

2. I still can identify most notes.
Think if you will be able to identify in future. RBI had plans to have
all notes of same width. Also drastically reduce the length from 10mm
to 4mm. Add to it the confusion due to coexistence of old and new
notes. You cannot do much once they are circulated in large numbers.
Can you?

3. Is it cost effective to propose withdrawal of notes that are
already in circulation?
We are not proposing to withdraw 500 and 2000-rupee notes, as they are
already too many in circulation. We are proposing to withdraw the new
50 and 200 notes that are still few in circulation; the situation with
these notes can still be controlled. We need to hold authorities
accountable for the promise made to the committee comprising blind
representatives by RBI that they will not reduce the size difference.
Else, authorities will continue to take us for granted.

4. We do have two or three websites and apps meant for making
transactions that are reasonably accessible.
That’s less than 5% of the total options. We have often experienced
websites and apps that were accessible suddenly become inaccessible
with the introduction of new technology or upgrades. So how much can
we really trust that the existing options will remain accessible
forever? None of the Point of Sale machines and kiosks are accessible
today. Having more accessible options will reduce our risk and it’s
our right by law.

5. So many issues needs to be resolved. Somebody should take it up.
We do sometimes complain and crib amongst ourselves, but expect
somebody else to find a solution. We can resolve lot many issues with
much lesser time if all of us raise and act together with a unified
voice and in front of right people at the right time. Do you think you
should also contribute now?

6. How many NGOs have supported this cause?
We have reached out to over 40 NGOs. About 5 of them have informed us
so far that they have sent the letters to the authorities and few more
are in process. Please drop us a line if you are associated with any
NGO and we will share the letters and relevant details, It takes just
a few minutes to send the letters.

7. I believe in the issue and have also contributed. What’s the status?
A. We have had one meeting with RBI on notes. Hoping for another
meeting on digital currency in a few days. Post the start of our
campaign, RBI Governor had made an announcement to come up with
measures for senior citizens and PWD by end of October, Let’s see if
they adhere to the time and more importantly if they include
accessible currency. Still waiting for the response from Finance
Ministry.
B. We have around 4600 signatories on change.org petition, still far
away from the targeted 20,000.

8. How can I contribute?
a. Sign the petition on the below link. If you have already done, get
your family and friends to do it.
http://tinyurl.com/AICpetition
B. Like the Accessible Indian Currency Facebook page to keep yourself
updated. Keep sharing the articles and updates that are posted over
there.
http://tinyurl.com/facebookAIC
C. Reach out to the local MP, MLA and media and ask them to highlight the
issue.
D. On an immediate basis, copy the below message and post it on your
Facebook wall and share on WhatsApp groups you are a part of. If you
have done it earlier, let’s do it again with the below new message.
Repetition and reinforcement is critical for any campaign.

The new Indian currency is making the lives of blind citizens
difficult. We are trying hard to make Indian currency accessible for
the blind and have sent a detail proposal to RBI Governor, Finance
Minister and Prime Minister. Please support in strengthening our voice
by signing this petition and sharing it on your Facebook wall.

Hoping for your continued contribution.

Hi all,

Please get in touch if you are a self-employed individual,
entrepreneur, etc. and have faced issues due to inaccessible currency.
We are expecting coverage of stories in the media on Accessible Indian
Currency. We will try to have them take testimonials of blind people
facing issues on the ground. Do revert by Monday. If you can, please
send us your experience in brief in your own words or call on

[AI] A video on Accessible Indian Currency, let's make it viral

2017-11-16 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Hi all,

We had a discussion with ScoopWhoop on making a video for Accessible
Indian currency and they have broadcasted it! Watch the video for
yourself and find an Access India couple in the video. More than 3
thousand people have already shared the video and this is a good
opportunity to make this viral.

There are hundreds of comments and quite a few negative ones due to
lack of awareness and ignorance. We have a good opportunity to
sensitize them by replying based upon their comment. You could
contribute by addressing those comments individually. Please do
encourage them to sign the online petition by sharing the link with
your reply to those comments. We continue to target 20,000 signatures
on our petition.

Go ahead and paste the below message along with the two links on your
Facebook page to make it viral!

Watch this 3 minute video and learn how new currency notes are
inaccessible for the blind.
For those who say bleed lines and markings on notes are sufficient to
differentiate the notes- well, in the Indian currency notes they are
not.
Blindfold your eyes & try for yourself!
Please share this video and encourage more people to sign our petition.

[AI] Let’s voice our thoughts on Accessible Indian Currency through Maan Ki Baat this Sunday!

2017-11-23 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Thank you for your continued support on the Accessible Indian Currency
campaign.

Our goal has been to target the campaign towards decision makers -
Finance Minister,
RBI and Prime Minister. One convenient way of reaching out to the
Prime Minister is through the monthly broadcast of Maan Ki Baat which
is aired on the last Sunday of every month. 26th November being the
Sunday before World Disability Day, it is very likely that the radio
broadcast may include issues affecting the differently abled.

The toll free line for Maan Ki Baat is 1800 117800. So let’s leverage
upon today & tomorrow to voice our concerns on how Indian currency is
posing a challenged for the community.

It is important for us to act.

Regards
Blind Graduates Forum of India.

2016-05-14 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)
Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI)!

We thank you all for you support and participation in the knowledge sharing
session last month on Neuro-Linguistic Programming. For this month's
knowledge sharing session, we invite you to an interactive session with
Advocate Uday Warunjikar, who will talk to us about laws and policies for
the disabled persons. This session would cover the rights of a disabled
person, the various laws and policies that pertain to people with
disability and also about judicial activism.

Advocate Uday Warunjikar is a noted counselor and advocate for the disabled
people - not just the visually impaired but also hearing disability,
cerebral palsy, persons with multiple disabilities, etc. He handles cases
for all problems faced by the disabled person - from the education system
to the career front. He was also a part of the team that worked the case to
ensure that the provision of aids/appliances as per the ADIP scheme to the
disabled person by government were granted and implemented.

Do you know that Three-percent of all government jobs in India are reserved
for people with disabilities? Should a school refuse admission to a child
with a disability, or if a ramp or other means of access is lacking? What
can you do if it does? Do you know that the allotment of land in India is
made at concessional rates to people with disabilities for housing,
business, special schools, factories with entrepreneurs who experience
disabilities, and recreation centers?
To know the answers to all these questions and many many more that must be
on your mind, please take some time out from your busy schedule to attend
this month's session.
