Everybody is migrating south for the winter. Depends on the duct size, depth, etc. Florida and Texas are full of drill operators, some arent high on meth during the workday. Youll get prices from 5-50 a foot back. The big issue I see is guys dont show up to quote, and when they do they dont show up to work. The florida market is saturated with big companies offering low rates, so if youre out and see a drill crew that looks professional working, you could likely peel them for a short job like that at a good rate. The issue for me is mobilization and setup for that machine. I will not move it for a 1k foot job unless I am getting $10K. I can do 10K on good plowing just about as easy as 1K due to mobilization and setup. But 10K feet for $70K would be the preferred job. My plow cost me $125K used and takes a semi to move. You will not get the plow, fuel, operator and mobilization for $1/foot unless it is 1M feet through Nebraska sod with no stops. for that type of project in that area I would say you are probably looking at $20 a ft mainly do to it being a small gig so your pricing will be higher. If you had several Jobs like this you may be able to get the pricing down some, or you catch it being close to other work they have. We can get drop cable plowed by a reputable, insured contractor for $3.50 on a good day, but OSP cable in a duct is a different story. To get under $3.50 we’d be dealing with a one-man band moonlighting as an excavator. In NY there’s more work than there are contractors to do it so that may have something to do with the prices. That varies greatly. Somewhere between $6-8/ft here in central Texas rural roads and rural subdivisions. Anywhere with more obstructions will cost significantly more due to the effort to avoid other utilities.
