Just for the record, the list costs about $ 150 /month (varies
slightly by traffic) on an AWS server, plus $ 99 /month for medium
priority support. I could cut out the support probably because we
haven’t needed it now for at least 6 months. At the time, there was
a LOT of setup, and I mean a LOT to fully integrate properly with

We had this discussion early on, and I believe we made the right
decision. After the lng setup, we haven’t deal with a server

I love the light-hearted nature of the members and until the

technical questions get asked and the group has a social feel.
While it does take just a while to delete the obvious junk by its
title, it seems to creep into many other “normal threads” also. The
last 6 months, good contributing members have become distant or gone
completely. Some people do not want to have to sort through the
muck. Same reason I chose to never watch CNN or FoxNews on TV.
It’s mostly garbage.Sometimes people don’t complain. They just
go away. I chose to say something.

Chuck wants the list to be self-policing. Create a new subject
header like PRS: for blatantly Political, Religious, and Social) or
something similar and then we can truly filter that “stuff” so we
never see it.

My comment truly was NOT about cost. I GLADLY did this to support Chuck and
support the valued members that found the list a great resource. PDMNet wanted
to give back to the WISP community.

Just for the record, the list costs about $ 150 /month (varies slightly by
traffic) on an AWS server, plus $ 99 /month for medium priority support. I
could cut out the support probably because we haven’t needed it now for at
least 6 months. At the time, there was a LOT of setup, and I mean a LOT to
fully integrate properly with AWS. They are very particular to how email
flows, their API etc. We had this discussion early on, and I believe we made
the right decision. After the lng setup, we haven’t deal with a server
based delivery issue in over a year. No getting blacklisted, no other drama.
We wanted simple and stable and relatively maintenance free. I love
maintenance free.

like that. That’s what USED TO BE labeled as OT: I wouldn’t want to filter

I love the light-hearted nature of the members and until the political season
came, the “extra stuff” didn’t phase me (or others). I absolutely LOVE hear
about Travis other business efforts, or stocks people are investing or anything
like that. That’s what USED TO BE labeled as OT: I wouldn’t want to filter
that. I love hearing what this groups other opinions are on a multitude of OT
subjects. On the flip side, I can’t stand the absolute garbage that gets
spewed (JMO) over and over… and over. We get it. You don’t like the
president AT ALL. You want to continue to trash him ALL the time. We get it.
We truly do. You have fully expressed yourself. You won’t change anybody’s
mind who does hatse the president or his policies. Ever. Move on. PLEASE.
JMO

As Forrest said, the better we get at running our business, the less technical
questions get asked and the group has a social feel. While it does take just
a while to delete the obvious junk by its title, it seems to creep into many
other “normal threads” also. The last 6 months, good contributing members have
become distant or gone completely. Some people do not want to have to sort
through the muck. Same reason I chose to never watch CNN or FoxNews on TV.
It’s mostly garbage.Sometimes people don’t complain. They just go away. I
chose to say something.

Chuck wants the list to be self-policing. Create a new subject header like
PRS: for blatantly Political, Religious, and Social) or something similar and
then we can truly filter that “stuff” so we never see it.

Be flattered that someone thinks your name and logo are worth copying.

There is not much you can do about the folks in India.

However, if your Name and Logo have copyrights or registered trademark, you
should be able to get Facebook to get these folks to remove the Logo and

Just FYI, in my normal business conversations with WISPs, I get one or two
people a week tell me they no longer look at the list because of all the BS,
politics, etc. I also don’t use AFMUG nearly as much as I used to because of
that.

While it costs me $$ for every email sent (I have never complained), AWS is
very solid and reliable, so it was a great choice. That’s not the point of

Re: [AFMUG] [Ubnt_users] Odd Nanobridge problem

2017-03-02 Thread CBB - Jay Fuller

so a few updates on this since the other jay first posted it -

* we've seen this before, sometimes with ubnt gear. i guess the proper thing
to do is wireshark the connection but since the towers are many miles away and
it was cold and raining, we just started stumbling through troubleshooting
steps late last night

* at times a ubnt radio (haven't seen it with any other radio) will "flood" the
network causing lost packets - i assume due to too much traffic or some other
cause. there is one nanobridge feeding two sites that are within 8 degrees of
each other (one 9 miles, one 12 miles). each site started with only 900 mhz
canopy (three sectors a piece per site). we have added one 2.4 ubnt omni
within the last year to one of the sites.
we added 2.4 epmp with a 120 sector to the other site within the last year.

* as stated last night, we could disable either site "a" or site "b" and have
no packet loss. we could not run them both without packet loss.
when going to bed, we left the busiest site up (with the most business
customers) and the smaller site was offline. these are pretty busy sites,
probably 70 customers between both towers. the split was probably 40 on one
tower and 30 on the other. again, 3 meg service (mostly)
so although they'd fed by ONE nanobridge (feeding two nanobridges at each
tower), it was in line to move to ac gear.

* the theory was we were going to have to replace the ac radio that is on the
feeding tower (the master side). In hind sight, I think doing that would not
have resolved the problem.

* they are on similar subnets (this segment is bridged, not routed)

* when i got back on this today i disabled the 2.4 omni on site (b) and left
sites a and b connected. there was no packet loss.
this led me to believe the problem lived on the 2.4 omni on site (b).

* there are 11 customers on site b's omni. I began changing each customers
ssid to "testsite" and dropped them off one by one until i identified the
problem customer. i then changed all the other customers to "testsite" and
moved the main omni ssid to testsite, leaving the problem customer offline.

no more packet loss.

This did start after a line of storms moved through yesterday. I assume she
took a close strike but the radio did not die.

We have a 5.7 Nanobridge acting as an AP that serves two tower sites
that are close together. After a storm yesterday we started getting a
lot of packet loss when pinging the AP. We can disconnect either of
the SMs and the remaining tower works fine and there is no packet loss
to the AP but when we turn both sites back on the packet loss returns.
There is also a Netonix switch at the tower that has the 5.7 Nanobridge
acting as the AP and it's cable diagnostics tool shows a problem on pins
5, 6, 7 and 8 though the AP is powered up. Both these sites are slated
for upgrades to Ubiquiti AC gear but the logistics will make it
  difficult this week.

So I'm pretty sure there is some sort of password bug on the Ceragon units.

I changed my password in the interface and then set the NTP time server and
updated the time, which was like years past what it was currently reading
after reboot.

I also changed the IP address.

I exited and re-entered the interface with the user/password just fine.

Then I "reset" the unit to reboot it.

Now no matter what I do no user/password combo works.

I'm pissed.

I have the other unit set similarly, but I am afraid to "reset" or

Here is a novel concept. If it’s not 100% wisp related don’t worry about a
subject header cus it’s not a political list. :-) If you want to join a
political list go to Facebook or a ton of other places you can comment. How
many of you walk into the hardware store and start up discussions about
politics? Maybe some do. I know i would feel kinda douchey if I did. Mailing
lists, IMHO, as targeted troves of information. I am a GI Joe collector and I
subscribe to several lists. The ones I no longer subscribe to are ones that
got too off topic.

Part of it is the medium. Look at several of the WISP Facebook groups. Very
little off topic conversation because it’s easy to share. E-mail is a little
harder just share something.

I agree with Paul. Take the policies, that are not 100% WISP related,
somewhere else. If you don’t, this list will dry up. Probably another may or
may not pop up, but it will go through the same cycle.

I agree. The politics on this list, on radio, on TV sucks. I have switched to
listening to classical music on the radio because NPR has nothing but the same
thing all day since last summer. I do not watch TV news. You cannot seem to
be able to get away from it. So google news is my news source.

However this list is like San Francisco sourdough. People try to replicate it
but unless you have the spores in the air, you ain’t gonna get the flavor.

to the person that bought one of the Champion Generators mentioned here,
does this have a fuel pump? That is what makes the extended run tank

On our experience with running the Honda 1000's for 3-4 days we

Do not recall the outcome. I think he was allowed to keep using WISPCON.

Be flattered that someone thinks your name and logo are worth copying.

There is not much you can do about the folks in India.

However, if your Name and Logo have copyrights or registered trademark, you
should be able to get Facebook to get these folks to remove the Logo and

Realizing that Google is custom, I'll use Backblaze for some math.
Backblaze will do 45 drives in 4U@600w power draw 47U rack height =
11

4U boxes = 495HD /rack If they're 8tb drives, that's 4PB/rack. If

this new sector with 3 feet of horizontal separating from the other sector
and no vertical separation. ( they are side by side pointed in the same

When we fired it up the SMs on the other AP started to re reg. I have
placed one of the APs at the top of the band on 20 mhz and the other on the
bottom on 20 mhz. Its better but they still drop and register over and

So my question is. Has anyone put two 2.4 sectors on the same tower
pointing the same direction successfully? How much vertical separation did
you use? I am assuming vertical is going to be better than what I did.

How much of a guard band did you use?

The 120 degree sector is older so it doesn’t have the same shielding on
top and bottom as the newer 90 degree KP sector. Just FYI.

Get the EU2000 it's not much more than the 1000. IF you want to run it
for longer than 3 hours get an extended run tank.

[AFMUG] AS-sets

2017-03-02 Thread Mike Hammett

I thought that when you included someone else's AS-set in your AS-set, it
formed a chain of custody, not that their AS-set directly contained your AS.

I've found multiple AS-sets that directly include my AS instead of a chain of
AS-sets. I suspect they're pulling all of the members of the AS-sets they're
peering with and building it as their own.

I assume that what they're doing isn't right. Can anyone smarter on the subject
than I shed some light?
