should be ready to hear an award in the name of ARR. That will happen one day.
Any state or central govt.will institute, calling it A.R.Rahman Samman sometime
later to honor talents in Music field. ARR received lata mageshkra award from

  (2) Someone wants to know where ARR was on Sivaji Function. Is ARR
accountable to us?
  (3) Someone asking to write biography. We all know from where ARR started.
Most of us being fan from his Roja days so whats the need of biography now?
  (4) Someone wants his statue at Madam Tussauds.
  (5) Someone says, he shouldnt score for this Director and should score only
for this Director. Do we need to interfere in the personal space of ARR?

I appeal to all the fans in this group that your love is understandable. So,
we need to put down all these rhetoric and back to our basic which is just
listening to his music. We must all stop dictating what we want from ARR. If
this rhetoric goes forever, someone may ask ARR to start political party and
jump into politics. Better we make a full stop about this and concentrate on
his music alone. Dont you guys think that we are going overboard?

Hi,
The first song retuned by arr was the old classic #39;Kaalangalil aval

I think it featured actress shobana. Anyone remembers this ad?

Srinath LN wrote:
 Hi,
I would like to take a shot at answering this
 question.
If u r saying the first song he retuned was even
before 'pudhiya mugam' kannukku mai azhagu song...then
i would reckon it should be from the movie
 GENTLEMAN-yen veetu thotathil.
If i remember correctly this tune is actually used in
singing a particular bhajan song sung at hindu poojas.
It goes something like ganne leela jyoti namo namo,
gnaana roopa swaroopa namo namo and so on(sorry .. i
m sure i got the lyrics wrong).
But rahman wonderfully i wud say polished the tune of
that song, added his own huge dose of originality and
violawe had i wud say one of the most romantic
classical duets, till date i can listen to that song
and not feel bored or anything.
Another notable thing i wud say is that, this song
also started the trend within all rahman-shanker
combos, where even though the album wud be fraught
with fun-filled dhool tp songs-huge dance numbers,
there wil always be this one soft romantic classical
based song in it-which would be i wud say one of the
biggest hits of the album as it wud impress the
 so-called masses and classes!!!
 e.g:
GENTLEMAN - yen veetu thotathil(SPB is king!)
 KAADHALAN - ennavalae(major carnatic singer
Unnikrishnan came into national limelight with this
 song)
INDIAN - telephone manipol(the stanzas ooze with
carnatic classical icing, plus harini had her major
 first masses hit)
JEANS - kannodu kaanbadhellam( introduced major
carnatic songer Nithyashree into mainstream tamil
 movies)
MUDHALVAN - azhagaana ratchasiyae( even though this
song was given a folky feel, it was out and out a
wonderfully playful composition in the raagam
'rithigoula' and ghatam rocked thru the song)
BOYS - alle alle(refrained frm making it sound too
carnatic as well it wud have been out of place in the
movie...but yet again the lone melodious track in the
 album)
*ANNIYAN - iyengaaru veetu azhagi kumaari( Shankar
tried it again with harris jayaraj...going for 2
songs, first being a very very basic composition in
raagam naattai and a much better job in the latter
song thanks to a zestful rendering by shankar
 mahadevan...
PS: I have always wondered how rahman cud have rocked
in this movie so much..seriyaana theeni[proper fodder]
for rahman's versatility. .i mean the iyengar angle so
the carnatic based songs, the wester loverboy angle
where he cud go all rock and hip-hop,then we have the
avenger vigilante, where he cud go all modern
operatic[without ripping of PASSION OF THE CHRIST
which is wat harris jayaraj eventually did]..but alas
one wil never kno wat rahman cud have done...jus like
we can never kno wat rahman had composed for droh
 kaal..one of those things...
 LAST BUT NOT LEAST
SIVAJI - sahana and sahara( the first one has jus been
named song of the year by sun TV so enuf said abt
that, and in the latter he actually used a thirupaavai
merging it with a titantic melancholy flute
 feel..kudos)
AHEM...er... i jus saw the whole mail frm top... i
guess i slightly veered of in a tangent(horrible
understatement) ...But i have answered the question to
my best knowledge on the top and sorry for
belaboring.. .but jus that it was a worthy interesting
 observation.
 Thanks..

With this movie Rajinikanth will script his name to be the first superhero

Both the father and daughter are newcomers for one is going to be the first

And with this, we hope to set a benchmark for Indian animation. There have
been animation films before in India but, not of quality that we are trying
to achieve with this movie, she added.

My father is happy and proud that I am a director. And I am proud of
directing him, she said.

The film has four songs written by Vairamuthu and A.R. Rehman scores the

2008-01-15 Thread Bergin Roy
Gopal,

Guess you know this already...

As far as I know, the lyrics was set to tune by MSV for a Mellisai
in Doordarshan in those days. If i'm not wrong Jayachandran and Vani
Jeyaram used to sing the song. This would start as Azhagu Azhagu

The same lyrics was set to this wonderful tune by ARR for Pudhiya
Mugam.

Is that you meant Aravind?

Cheers,

[arr] Kaviperarasu VAIRAMUTHU on A.R.RAHMAN - SPECIAL RAHMANIA SHOW ( MUST READ - VERY INTERESTING )

2008-01-15 Thread Vithur
Dear Rahmaniacs,

It was really a special Rahmania Show today, with Kavignar Vairamuthu
who has been very very famous for his lyrics, and his love for Tamil, and
who has been assosciated with ARR right from Roja till Sivaji sharing his
thoughts on ARR. ( For people who know Tamil, MP3s links will be given in
my future mails )

*INTRODUCTION :-* Kaviperarasu ( Renowned scholar ) Vairamuthu is credited
with 5 National Awards for Tamil Literature, evergreen Lyricist, credited
with Doctorate by Two Universities twice , The Living Legend. He had also
won the Sahitya Academy Award for Kallikattu Ithigasam. Had also won the
Padmashree Award for Literature.

*BEFORE AND AFTER ARR MUSIC :-* Before ARR Music, since 1980 to 1990 ; After
1990 , It has been the wave of ARR. My music journey can be divided into 2
phases. One with Ilayaraja and one with ARR. Being with ARR was different ,
and being with Ilayaraja was different . during Ilayaraja time, it was
classical religiuos music and during ARR time, I could admire heights of
Western Classical Music. ARR discovered a blend of Classical and Western
Music. Both the MDs have influenced me with their own styles.

*How do you change yourself with the changing face of Music ??*

This is a good question. Once upon a time, Music was composed based on
writings. Later, the trend of writing lyrics for the tune emerged. When ,
music is composed based on lyrics, the lyricist has a lot of freedom. But
when , the lyricist writes based on the tune, he becomes lilttle limited,
just like a parrot wishing to fly, but caught in a cage. Then too, the
beauty of the tune soothes us and we have started accepting that. But ARR ,
has accepted my lyrics for some songs and has composed the tune for them.
And one of my favourites amongst that is KANNUKKU MAI AZAHGU ( PUDIYA
MUGAM). The lyrics was already present, and he composed it based on the
lyrics. The tune was so soothing, that I have my doubt if the same song
would have been composed before the lyrics was ready.

Chinna Chinna Aasai :- ARR gave the tune. That thought was little old to me.
I had written a poem titled ennakku Pudikkum ( I like it ) . And it so
happened that the lyrics of Chinna Chinna Aasai got inserted finely into the
song. We took only that title Chinna Chinna Aasai from my poem, and the rest
was seperately written by me.

*ANY SONG THAT WAS WRITTEN WITH A TUSSLE WITH ARR :-*

Ratchagan - chandiranai Thottatu Yaar Armstronga - There was a healthy
fight in this song. ARr had composed a beautiful tune for this song. ARR
felt the word Armstrongaaa disturbing the tune a lilttle bit. I said to ARR
that if this song was to be noticed, it would be only for the word
Armstrong.. Both the tune and the lyric should grab the attention of the
listener. The composition of music is great, and only if the lyrics are
properly written, will the song become a hit. A song which gets hit because
of the tune is like a bird flying on one wing, but if the same song gets hit
because of the tune and lyrics, then it is a wholesome song. I asked ARR as
to who is going to sing the song, for which ARR replied it would be by
Hariharan. So, I told him to call Hariharan and see how the song could be
adjusted to suit the beat. When Hariharan came for singing , he started
writing the song in English, and Hindi. Harharan on seeing the lyric '
Armstrongaaa started exclaming and praising Vairamuthu saying This is
Vairamuthu SIR.. ARR was smiling at Vairamuthu.. Hariharan stressed on
Armstrongaaa and made the beat go right. This was a small tussle between me
, for me it was safeguarding the Language, and for ARR it was safeguarding
the music. But a healthy tussle, which ended fine.

*General Opinion*

I feel that there are two groups which exists all the time. One group wants
to listen to music and forget the lyrics, and the other want to concentrate
on the lyrics an do not give that much importance to the tune. According to
me, For lyrics, tune should be composed, and lyrics should be highlighted.
Because of Western Effects, Youngsters want to know the beat, the
instruments and ask if their bodies can be shaked for the tune. But I want
it to be like Music should be for external effects and Language should be
for Internal effects.
*SHORTEST TIME FOR WRITING A SONG :-* It all depends on the situation, the
mental state and the need of the song. For ARR, I have never written a song
in short notice. But Thillana Thillana ( From Muthu ) , was written within
an hour and was written on the garden of ARR's Home in Chennai. At that
time, the film crew had already come, and singers had come, and ARR
requested if the song could be prepared immediately. Vairaamuthu wrote the
lyrics swinging on ARR's swing.

*LONGEST TIME FOR WRITING A SONG* :- veerapandi Kottaiyile ( from Thiruda
Thiruda ) . Because I had written a lot of times, the lyrics, and it took
time for finalisation.

*WHAT YOU LIKE IN ARR ??* Dedication, Simplicity, and a sense of discipline

who has been assosciated with ARR right from Roja till Sivaji sharing his
thoughts on ARR. ( For people who know Tamil, MP3s links will be given in
  my future mails )

*INTRODUCTION :-* Kaviperarasu ( Renowned scholar ) Vairamuthu is
credited with 5 National Awards for Tamil Literature, evergreen Lyricist,
credited with Doctorate by Two Universities twice , The Living Legend. He
had also won the Sahitya Academy Award for Kallikattu Ithigasam. Had also
won the Padmashree Award for Literature.

  *BEFORE AND AFTER ARR MUSIC :-* Before ARR Music, since 1980 to 1990 ;
After 1990 , It has been the wave of ARR. My music journey can be divided
into 2 phases. One with Ilayaraja and one with ARR. Being with ARR was
different , and being with Ilayaraja was different . during Ilayaraja time,
it was classical religiuos music and during ARR time, I could admire heights
of Western Classical Music.

That thought was little old to
me. I had written a poem titled ennakku Pudikkum ( I like it ) . And it
so happened that the lyrics of Chinna Chinna Aasai got inserted finely into
the song. We took only that title Chinna Chinna Aasai from my poem, and the
rest was seperately written by me.

*ANY SONG THAT WAS WRITTEN WITH A TUSSLE WITH ARR :-*

Ratchagan - chandiranai Thottatu Yaar Armstronga - There was a
healthy fight in this song. ARr had composed a beautiful tune for this song.
ARR felt the word Armstrongaaa disturbing the tune a lilttle bit. I said to
ARR that if this song was to be noticed, it would be only for the word

One group
wants to listen to music and forget the lyrics, and the other want to
concentrate on the lyrics an do not give that much importance to the tune.
According to me, For lyrics, tune should be composed, and lyrics should be
highlighted. Because of Western Effects, Youngsters want to know the beat,
the instruments and ask if their bodies can be shaked for the tune. But I
want it to be like Music should be for external effects and Language should
  be for Internal effects.
*SHORTEST TIME FOR WRITING A SONG :-* It all depends on the situation,

2008-01-15 Thread Chord
Frustration is buildling rapidly among many online posters in various
forums and some are announcing that they won't buy the CD ultimately
due to anger and frustration for all the false starts and delays.
Earlier it was announced as Jan 15 for the release, but alas, no
music. People are going to the music stores only to be
disappointed. Of course people are going to be irritated and
frustrated with no official word except word of mouth that the music
is delayed further by a few days. BECAUSE this is an ARR Hindi
release after a long time, there is a lot of anticipation,
tremendously. It's getting a lot of attention, unfortunately, right
now, negative attention.

I'm going to buy the CD and support Rahman, but this has got to be
the most botched up audio release ever in the history of Indian
cinema, no offense meant to the JA team who are trying hard to get
things right. Once the music is out, all of this waiting and
frustration will be a distant and hopefully soon to be forgotten
memory.

Mediafire links. There are a lot of things discussed by Vairamuthu
Sir,
which I found it difficult to translate, as you all may be aware
the Tamil
 proficiency of Vairamuthu Sir.

So, I insist U listen to these Mp3s.

  Dear Rahmaniacs,

It was really a special Rahmania Show today, with Kavignar
Vairamuthu
who has been very very famous for his lyrics, and his love for
Tamil, and
who has been assosciated with ARR right from Roja till Sivaji
sharing his
thoughts on ARR. ( For people who know Tamil, MP3s links will be
given in
  my future mails )

*INTRODUCTION :-* Kaviperarasu ( Renowned scholar ) Vairamuthu is
credited with 5 National Awards for Tamil Literature, evergreen
Lyricist,
credited with Doctorate by Two Universities twice , The Living
Legend. He
had also won the Sahitya Academy Award for Kallikattu Ithigasam.
Had also
won the Padmashree Award for Literature.

*BEFORE AND AFTER ARR MUSIC :-* Before ARR Music, since 1980 to
1990 ;
After 1990 , It has been the wave of ARR. My music journey can be
divided
into 2 phases. One with Ilayaraja and one with ARR. Being with
ARR was
different , and being with Ilayaraja was different . during
Ilayaraja time,
it was classical religiuos music and during ARR time, I could
admire heights
of Western Classical Music. ARR discovered a blend of Classical
and Western
Music. Both the MDs have influenced me with their own styles.

*How do you change yourself with the changing face of Music ??*

This is a good question. Once upon a time, Music was composed
based on
writings. Later, the trend of writing lyrics for the tune
emerged. When ,
music is composed based on lyrics, the lyricist has a lot of
freedom. But
when , the lyricist writes based on the tune, he becomes lilttle
limited,
just like a parrot wishing to fly, but caught in a cage. Then
too, the
beauty of the tune soothes us and we have started accepting that.
But ARR ,
has accepted my lyrics for some songs and has composed the tune
for them.
And one of my favourites amongst that is KANNUKKU MAI AZAHGU (
PUDIYA
MUGAM). The lyrics was already present, and he composed it based
on the
lyrics. The tune was so soothing, that I have my doubt if the
same song
would have been composed before the lyrics was ready.

Chinna Chinna Aasai :- ARR gave the tune. That thought was little
old to
me. I had written a poem titled ennakku Pudikkum ( I like
it ) . And it
so happened that the lyrics of Chinna Chinna Aasai got inserted
finely into
the song. We took only that title Chinna Chinna Aasai from my
poem, and the
rest was seperately written by me.

*ANY SONG THAT WAS WRITTEN WITH A TUSSLE WITH ARR :-*

Ratchagan - chandiranai Thottatu Yaar Armstronga - There was
a healthy
fight in this song. ARr had composed a beautiful tune for this
song. ARR
felt the word Armstrongaaa disturbing the tune a lilttle bit. I
said to ARR
that if this song was to be noticed, it would be only for the word
Armstrong.. Both the tune and the lyric should grab the
attention of the
listener. The composition of music is great, and only if the
lyrics are
properly written, will the song become a hit. A song which gets
hit because
of the tune is like a bird flying on one wing, but if the same
song gets hit
because of the tune and lyrics, then it is a wholesome song. I
asked ARR as
to who is going to sing the song, for which ARR replied it would
be by
Hariharan. So, I told him to call Hariharan and see how the song
could be
adjusted to suit the beat. When Hariharan came for singing , he
started
writing the song in English, and Hindi. Harharan on seeing the
lyric '
Armstrongaaa started exclaming and praising Vairamuthu saying
This is
Vairamuthu SIR.. ARR was smiling at Vairamuthu.. Hariharan
stressed on
Armstrongaaa and made the beat go right. This was a small tussle
between me
, for me it was safeguarding the Language, and for ARR it was
safeguarding
the music. But a healthy tussle, which ended fine.

  *General Opinion*

I feel that there are two groups which exists all the time. One
group
wants to listen to music and forget the lyrics, and the other
want to
concentrate on the lyrics an do not give that much importance to
the tune.
According to me, For lyrics, tune should be composed, and lyrics
should be
highlighted. Because of Western Effects, Youngsters want to know
the beat,
the instruments and ask if their bodies can be shaked for the
tune. But I
want it to be like Music should be for external effects and
Language should
  be for Internal
