Any suggestions would help. The clips are over 10 minutes, so YouTube
is not an option.

I will try again to load the files in viddler which seemed to work for everyone.

Why not..!..that was before the chain songs right?. That time audience were
silently listening the song.
Its sure that rain was streight from god without disturbing listeners. A sign
that ARR's devine song reached the God's ears..

This is from someone else on another website:

"On behalf of the millions of fellow ARR fans around the globe, I would like to
set some things straight here. Firstly, I sincerely appreciate the annoyance
that has been poured in the form of words in this forum regarding the musical
output of VTV, which I must say is quite acceptable considering the fact that
ARR fans or to say musical junkies like us weren't exposed to the brilliance of
innovative song structuring or abstract forms of musical forms in Tamil music
circuit. What ARR has done here is an absolute never-before heard style of
structuring that is very new to the listeners, so it takes time to sink in to
the brilliance of his work. Moreover the 2 year gap, added to the combo of
Gautam-ARR has created a huge huge expectation on the lines of VA or KK. I
think that is outlandishly silly. ARR is one who is always on the lookout for
innovation and strives to give something new to the otherwise ordinary-run of
the mill-listener who gets content
with the thumping beats and silly lyrics. When I first heard VTV I was hugely
disappointed, a feeling that has never occurred to me after listening to an ARR
album. But after repeated hearing, I understood and began to trace out the
intricate layering and the shear brilliance of innovative structuring of the
genius. This is one of the best tamil film soundtracks ever. I cannot force or
preach about the music, it all depends on the individual to embrace it or sink
in to the usual. Cheers."

[arr] Here is a posting I really like

2010-01-17 Thread ichord

ARR is one who is always on the lookout for
innovation and strives to give something new to the otherwise ordinary-run of
the mill-listener who gets content with the thumping beats and silly lyrics.
When I first heard VTV I was hugely disappointed, a feeling that has never
occurred to me after listening to an ARR album. But after repeated hearing, I
understood and began to trace out the intricate layering and the shear
brilliance of innovative structuring of the genius. This is one of the best
tamil film soundtracks ever. I cannot force or preach about the music, it all
depends on the individual to embrace it or sink in to the usual. Cheers."

[arr] ARR Scoring for a Disney Movie

2010-01-17 Thread ichord
You know, watching that old clip of ARR when Roja came out and hearing H.
Shridhar's comments on how AR's music is "theatrical" really struck me. The
word "theatrical" is really a good, broad descriptive term to describe many of
ARR's compositionsmostly recently "Mannipaya" being a great example of such
a style and structure.

The songs "Mannipaya" or "Dil Ka Rishta" from Yuvvraaj nicely fit the
theatrical descriptor and further remind me of how much potential and scope AR
would have in scoring for a Disney movie, whose soundtracks are very much in
line with a song like "Mannipaya" or "Dil Ka Rishta". The English song that AR
scored for the movie "Kisna"...is also a great example.

If a Disney Director ever picked up ARR for composer for one of their splendid
animation movies, for example, I think they would be extremely happy with the
results, and I could totally see AR doing a fantastic job with the music. Hope
it happens someday. Just my opinion.

[arr] Slightest clue

2010-01-17 Thread Gobi Kanadasan
Hi guys,

Just finish watching Koffee with Anu. This time around, the guest was Gautham
and Simbu. Gautham gave some slightest clue regarding MD for his future
project(s). So, I believe that he will work with ARR more after this. Infact,
he mentioned that he is comfortable working with ARR. I believe that it was not
a diplomatic statement; it was a sincere one. Moreover, he realized that the
reach of the VTV music is universal and people who does not know the lyrics,
now listen to the songs. In my opinion, he captures the mood of the songs by
minute detail and present them beautifully. I'm sure many would agree with me.
Hopefully, this combo continues. If anyone in this group knows Gautham, please
let him know that the fans are looking forward for him to work with ARR again.

Regards,
K.Gobi

Re: [arr] was Rahman playing with free rhytm in VTV... Pls clear my doubt

2010-01-17 Thread Arijit Debnath
Kishore.. I got your point but that is a different example... where
table is being played in a faster speed to match a different beat sung by
vocalist... for example... when vocalist is singing a phrase of 8 beats 3
times... tabla player is playing 6 beat taal faster 4 tines to be matched
the rhythm which exactly happened in Hazair or Hariharan's another album
'Dil Nasheen'...and it will be a regular stuff in any Hindustani classical
concert

But in VTV it's not like that guitar is not being forced to match the
rhythm of singing... both are going in their own different flow the
beats are not matching mathematically but still sounding good enough and
it's very hard to sing such somg LIVE which Karthik did beautifully in
launch venue

2010-01-17 Thread Sreekrishnan R
I agree with Kalyan Bro..

Of course this is a trend, but using it beautifully and according to the songs'
(or say visuals') need would be more beautiful! For example Naresh's voice is
processed beautifully at 03:04 and 03:07 in 'Kannukkul Kannai'..

Sometimes I just sit, listen and concentrate just for such parts.. That's the
magic of AR! He always gives us something to leARn in every track of an Album
or a Concert!

Ok SENTHIL... U can now be the HAPPIEST PERSON!! The SONG is NOT at
all a COPY!! Instead, the GUITAR in our song is played in a STYLE
similar to it.. The HOOKS are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and ORIGINAL!!! It
was Roger Waters who introduced this style, and we had THANKED him in
FORUMS, when VTV released!! I hope u missed the posts! The SAME style
can be seen in atleast 1000 songs today!!

And I feel, AROMALAE is the BEST among them!!
Always remember! ARR= 100% ORIGINALITY! He never RIPS OFF any hook or
tune.. Instead, he gets influenced by a number, and creates another
COMPLETELY ORIGINAL piece in that genre!

The BEST example (I QOUTED this atleast a 100 times in this group),
is the CHANDRALEKHA song from THIRUDA THIRUDA(1993) . ARR was
influenced by Michael Jackson.. But, created a NEW and COMPLETELY
ORIGINAL song, in that GENRE, which became the BEST song ever created
in that GENRE!! Even MJ was a fan of the song..and the legend too
never came up with a song matching CHANDRALEKHA' s grandeur!!

MJ was a LEGEND!
ARR is the LIVING LEGEND!!

He or his engineers use such techniques (or modifications as you say) only when
those were required. And not always.

ARR has used this technique many times before, and I love it.
Forget this technique.. Even otherwise also, ARR had been modifying
natural vocals to add beauty to the song! Eg: Mg Sreekumar's vocals in
Chinna Chinna MAzhaithuli( En Swasa Katre), YESUDAS's vocals in
Pachaikiligal( Yesudas did not like it! It was controversial then)
etc.. But all of these experiments brought out MINDBLOWING results!!
Remember SHANKAR MAHADEVAN's UPPUKARUVADU? ??

Sadhana Sargam, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shankar Mahadevan, Kavitha
Krishnamurthy, Hariharan, Madhushree, Minmini all sound the BEST in
ARR songs! Why?? Because, ARR makes a lot of modifications to the
originally recorded voice!!

>From his early albums, ARR had been using techniques like DUAL/MULTI
Tracking, Vocal Echoes, layer-cropping etc.. and ALL of them, TILL
today have yielded the BEST results!!

Theres nothing generic about it. Please go ahead and elaborate which portions
and how do you think its a lift.

I have on personal grounds promised to award Rs 5000 to anyone who proves
beyond doubt that the song is a lift.

Hey Friends,

What an incredible concert! I hope everyone enjoyed it. For those
who couldn't catch it, i have recorded the entire concert and will
try to post in online. Any recommendation on where videos can be
uploaded other than Youtube? The concert is more than 2 hours and
youtube only lets you load 10 minute videos.

AR sang a lot of songs.. strangely, he didnt remember the lyrics
for almost all the tamil songs he sang :( The overall presentation
of the concert was great! I wish i had been there. Glad atleast i
could watch it online.

To me, ARR and his music are above all these things.his music and the
message behind his music are on a different plane, in my opinion. We just have
to be thankful that as fans, we are receptive to what ARR has to offer and
appreciate it the way we do. Let things come and go, awards come and goand
let's be like ARR...cool, calm, patient, faithful, reasonably detached.

Story to tell ... the Oscar-winning megastar A.R. Rahman captivated the
70,000-strong audience in Parramatta on Saturday night with a spectacular
musical show.
Photo: James Alcock

A.R. RAHMAN
Parramatta Park, January 16
MORE than a concert, this was a gesture: A.R. Rahman performed for free as an
affirmation that the friendship between Australians and Indians cannot be
fractured by moronic and violent element. These sentiments were echoed by the
Premier, Kristina Keneally, in launching the concert.

She then welcomed to the stage that most popular of Australians in India, the
former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh, who eloquently expressed his own
distress at the violence. He went on to describe Rahman as the Sachin Tendulkar
of music.
Given that Tendulkar may be the second finest batsman in the game's history,
that is to somewhat overstate Rahman's significance (as does his ''Mozart of
Madras'' tag), but Waugh's good-natured words were enthusiastically received.
Rahman was rapturously welcomed by what was probably the largest gathering of
Indians ever seen in Australia, among the 70,000-plus crowd. His international
recognition results from having composed the score for the multiple
Oscar-winning movie, Slumdog Millionaire. His success in India was already
stupendous, built upon albums, concerts and soundtracks.
His appeal lies in an ability to cross and mix genres and clearly he is a
gifted composer and singer. But what emerged on the night was largely trite pop
music made into dance spectaculars via dozens of colourful, cavorting bodies, a
vast lighting rig and even fireworks. Visually it became an apotheosis of
kitsch, rather like Olympic opening and closing ceremonies. But that's
Bollywood.
Meanwhile, my internal organs were being rearranged courtesy of the force of
the bass end of the PA - something of no concern to a four-year-old girl in
front of me, who danced happily throughout, and had all the moves.
Rahman was only an intermittent star of his own show, often leaving the stage
to the huge cast of singers, dancers and expert musicians, and occasionally
leaving the trivial for a fleeting taste of the sumptuous tradition of Indian
classical music, somewhat diluted.
The arrival of the forecast showers did little to dampen the crowd's
excitement, which grew to hysteria when the big hit Jai Ho ( Victory to You )
was finally unleashed.
The music may largely have been trifling, but the message was vital. The
violence is reprehensible; the friendship must be lasting.

consider the fact that the popularity of the movie also plays an important role

Re: [arr] Re: Winners: Bollywood Hungama Surfers Choice Music Awards 2009

2010-01-17 Thread vedavid manick
Not at all suprised at this. Pritam creates music for the masses and so the
masses would love and vote for it. The music Rahman creates on the other hand,
while having mass appeal, often requires that one listens to it a couple times.
It is deeper and has soul. Pritam aims at mass appeal, and this requires an
instant catchy tune or line or beat.

Congrats to Pritam. When it comes to mass appeal, he is on top. When it comes
to soul and depth, that is Rahman's forte, and it is where pritam needs to work
harder.

this is totally un-understandable to me why people voted for APKGK. to me it is
totally ridiculous. APKGK was such a lame album barring one song (Tera hone
laga hoon), even that is long gone from my playlist. and in case of LAK, take
out remake/remix of that folk song (Kadi hai hans bol) and what are you left
with?? nothing. this is my feeling don't know others'. i agree Pritam is
popular but his work last year was much much better than these two (especially
in Jab We Met). it is disrespectful even to compare ARR or Delhi 6 to these
albums.

2010-01-17 Thread kishore parayath
ARR has used this technique many times before, and I love it.
Forget this technique.. Even otherwise also, ARR had been modifying
natural vocals to add beauty to the song! Eg: Mg Sreekumar's vocals in
Chinna Chinna MAzhaithuli(En Swasa Katre), YESUDAS's vocals in
Pachaikiligal(Yesudas did not like it! It was controversial then)
etc.. But all of these experiments brought out MINDBLOWING results!!
Remember SHANKAR MAHADEVAN's UPPUKARUVADU???

Sadhana Sargam, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shankar Mahadevan, Kavitha
Krishnamurthy, Hariharan, Madhushree, Minmini all sound the BEST in
ARR songs! Why?? Because, ARR makes a lot of modifications to the
originally recorded voice!!

>From his early albums, ARR had been using techniques like DUAL/MULTI
Tracking, Vocal Echoes, layer-cropping etc.. and ALL of them, TILL
today have yielded the BEST results!!

[arr] Pick of VTV for me ? Aaromale !

This song has that typical ARR touch, SMOOTH JAZZ style and totally
unstructured composition with a touch of melancholy..freaky stuff !

Other songs may become hit with the listeners but Aaromale has "THAT" ARR touch
and I am happy that he included it in this album.

RE: [arr] The song Aaromale is said to be inspired from...

2010-01-17 Thread wiredbeats .
Theres nothing generic about it. Please go ahead and elaborate which portions
and how do you think its a lift.

I have on personal grounds promised to award Rs 5000 to anyone who proves
beyond doubt that the song is a lift.

The stage is yours now.

My opinion is It still sounds good..But I feel the use of 'telephonized'
voice - like the Kalyani Menon part in Omana Pennae , can be reduced..I think
ARR started this first with 'Jill allava' in 'En Swasa Katre'.

E.g. the chorus in Omanna Penne, or Anbil Avan. I think use of technology (as
against natural vocals) to build the harmony is not working out the way it
should. Technology driven musical instrument sounds are fine but vocals? nope -
not working out for me.

IMO - no technology can either emulate or beat the purity in vocals

Hi Vinu,

Ya i completely understand. I myself a typical fan of rahman but it hurts when
a genious like him explicitly reuses the same tune. My outburst is just
comparable to a common spectator who blames our Indian cricket team for losing
the most crucial match. By the way listen to first 30 secs of the song from
this link disseminated earlier. I will be the happiest person if i am wrong.

2010-01-17 Thread Jahanzeb
this is totally un-understandable to me why people voted for APKGK. to me it is
totally ridiculous. APKGK was such a lame album barring one song (Tera hone
laga hoon), even that is long gone from my playlist. and in case of LAK, take
out remake/remix of that folk song (Kadi hai hans bol) and what are you left
with?? nothing. this is my feeling don't know others'. i agree Pritam is
popular but his work last year was much much better than these two (especially
in Jab We Met). it is disrespectful even to compare ARR or Delhi 6 to these
albums.

[arr] Re: Official video of VTV audio release (Magical unplugged versions)

2010-01-17 Thread indmovbuff

Sanjay,

My reply to Rivjot is relevant here so will paste it.

Rivjot, I apologise for having to make you write what you called an unpleasent
e-mail and hence spoiling your mood. That was not my intention. I understand
that there are shortcomings in the way the current music industry functions and
we all know that it is a global problem. However, I think it's very easy to
point fingers.

I currently do not live in an area/county in which I have access to tamil
music, let alone Indian music. I have gone through what you have as well - the
painful wait and trust me, I know the feeling. You know what I do now? I get my
neice to buy me a CD when she gets her copy in India, and then she burns my CD
and e-mails the mp3s to me. I am sure we all have some trustworthy
friends/family who have access to instant markets and this is just one option.
That way my thirst for wanting to listen to the music within hours of its
release is taken care of and I get my copy of the CD by post in 5-10 days time.
I get the added satisfaction of not having fed the pirates- that feeling just
makes every soundtrack even more special for me. That's the least I can do for
Rahman and the brilliant team behind his music. Where there's a will, there's a
way.

I strongly condemn piracy. It is stealing, although we don't like to admit to
it. And we are not only just stealing music but we are also stealing people's
livelihood. That's wrong. Just my two cents worth.

My opinion is It still sounds good. But I feel the use of 'telephonized'

ARR started this first with 'Jill allava' in 'En Swasa Katre'.

should. Technology driven musical instrument sounds are fine but vocals? nope -
not working out for me.

IMO - no technology can either emulate or beat the purity in vocals

[arr] Universal appeal

2010-01-17 Thread Srini
Friends,

i think VTV is in my recent memory one album that has been liked by
most people. Unlike the previous albums where there have been people
expressing how the album was a let down (at times after just 1 hearing
or a 30 sec clips), there has been only praises from every quarters on
VTV!

No ones gonna be asking when's the next AR release for a while :) As
Chord said, VTV is sure going to find it's place among the top 10
albums of AR sir. I'm glad Boss has silenced all those critics who
said he doesn't care about Tamil industry. It's the quality that
matters! If it's albums like VTV I'm ready to wait as long as it
takes.

While I've always loved the people, the sound of the language and the
natural beauty of gods own country, it's my first time to be clued on
to a Malayalam number. Thank you sir, it just sounds heavenly :)

I can't decide which song is the best from the album. Every song seems
the best for the 4-5 minutes I listen to it only to be replaced by the
next track.

Thank you Sir! 2010 couldn't have had a better start.

Jai Ho!
