[arr] Kelaamal Observation

2007-10-24 Thread mmparthi2003
What I thought was interesting was that when the girl sings the liens
"Kettu Rasitha paadal" and the next "Paarthum Paaramale" the sound
becomes kinda like a disturbance...theres something not pure or clear
abt it.. the girls voice becomes like shes singing from far away and
then when u look closely the following guys part sounds crystal
clear..i think its kinda like a hint for the mixture of old and the
new...simply fascinated by it and loving every bit of it!

[arr] ATM ayngaran Release in Canada

2007-10-27 Thread mmparthi2003
to be honest I was disappointed with ayngaran's release...it does not
have the additional info you get in the indian version like the
additional programming, ppl who played the instruments...etc etc...the
whole right hand bottom corner of the indian version of the cd was not
there...
and It felt like a high class cheap copy...it didn't feel original at
all...inside the cd there are pictures of the movie Pirivom Santhipom
i mean common...was disappointed...

the sivaji audio cd was way better

I dnt think its just anytamil...bcoz i bought AYngarans cd here in
Canada and they had 5 different CDs with 5 different movie combos..and
they didn't have any listing of the credits...just simple who sang it
and the lyricist... i was very disappointed with this cd...even the
quality wasn't good as Sivaji...who do you complain about these?

[arr] AzhUgiya Thamil Magan

2007-11-10 Thread mmparthi2003
No offense but I am sorry to say the movie stank and above all made
the songs looks bad as well...The songs are gizzilion times better on
the audio and who ever said the movie enhances the songs must be out
of the world or hasnt ever seen a good way of song picturization...i
felt bad watchign the songs and felt SJ Surya is way better atleast
his New did so much justice to the song...

And to Vijay who said dnt go to the movie with expectations on the Sun
Tv interview hats off..you couldn't be more right!

[arr] Re: AzhUgiya Thamil Magan

2007-11-11 Thread mmparthi2003
i am not coming inside the HJ comparison bcoz i did not start it..but
the reason the movie is at top bcoz it just came 2 days back and
secondly it was the ONLY highly anticipated movie in Tamil..and I am
nto talking about the movie either...this fan club isnt about the movies..

All I am talking about is how the songs were used in the movie...they
were completely wasted... The most disastrous outcome was Ella
Pugalum...can anybody justify how the scenes and the choreography
suited that song? Vijay was doing some weird moves folding up his legs
and they treated the song as if some kind of a dance experimentation
song..and it was treated like any other intros done by vijay but even
worserit had a rock feel...a kind of passion in its high notes
sung by rahman nothing was there on the scenesit made the song
look cheap!

Then Kelaamal...i mean common what was that all about? I seriously
didn't get it..and Valayapatti all they tried to achieve was somethign
like Athiradi from Sivaji or Andakaaka from Anniyan.. For them the
changing raagas and the classical/folk touch was useless! They are
singing Valayapatti thavile and singing about different raagas in
raagamaalika but the heroine is dancing in Arabic costumes and the
choreography was all like a kuthu song gone bad!

I felt sorry for Rahman and my respect for the audio went way up while
for the other movie crew way down ...The people to blame are the
Director, choreographer and the art director and maybe Vijay in a
bcoz i am pretty sure he has a lot to say about wht he wants to do...

other alternative but to listen to my wife. Does your style of
composing music change when you do an international project like
Elizabeth: The Golden Age? The music for Elizabeth.. has been
co-composed by me. When Shekhar started the project, he wanted to make
it very artistic and dark. But then, he decided to make the film more
entertaining.. and the music more pulsating.

> As a composer, I'd say music stems from one's emotions. So, there's
absolutely no difference in my approach, whether I'm composing for
Jodhaa Akbar or Elizabeth. When you look back, how do you assess your
music? Roja set the standard for me as a composer. And frankly, I
can't guage where to go after Elizabeth. Let's see.. at this very
point of time, I'm very excited about my next international album -
The Lord of The Rings which will be released on December 10. It has
many as 15 tracks. As much as 2 pounds would be spent a day on the
orchestration. I believe you have started your own music company. Yes.
It's called K M Musiq. I'm really kicked about it. All these years, I
was being commissioned by others.. now I can commission others. But it

saddest thing is that no one takes acoustic instruments seriously.
Most musicians just prefer to work on keyboards. But I've stopped

Do you still work like an owl all night and sleep by day? That's
rubbish! If that was true, I wouldn't be sitting here with you doing
an inteview in the afternoon. I work at night, occasionally , whenever
I'm dealing with a jet lag situation, not otherwise. How busy are you
as a music director right now? I'm into a somewhat more relaxed pace
now. There was a time when I'd be doing six Tamil and two to three
Hindi films a year. How many Tamil films are you working on at this
point of time? (Laughs) Ha! That's a good question. I wish I knew the
answer. I'm doing two Tamil films â€" Sultan, the animation film being
made by Rajnikant's daughter Soundarya and Prabhu's Sakkarakkatti. And
Hindi films? Well, let me see. Gajini, Ada, Jaane Tu Naa Jaane Naa,
Delhi 6, the Hindi dubbed version of the Rajnikant movie Sivaji,
Subhash Ghai's Main Hoon Yuvraj and Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar. You
> were against the idea of composing for dubbed films. So, how did
you make an exception for Sivaji? You're right there.I don't encourage
the dubbing of my songs in other languages. Yes, so Sivaji is an
exception. It has beaty foot-tap , ping music which should connect on
an all-India level. You are often accused of working for big
production banners at the cost of small films. Sorry, that isn't true
at all. Otherwise, I wouldn't be doing Sakkarakkatti which is a small
film. Are you composing the music for an animation film called
Cockroach being planned by Shekhar Kapur? Yes. I'm excited about that.
Animation films allow your imagination to take flight. What do you
like about your music? That's a tricky question. If I say I like my
music, I'll be blowing my own trumpet. And if I say I don't like my
music, I'll sound disgruntled. Some film producers in the South have
accused you of recruiting Hindi singers to do the playback for your
Tamil films at their
> cost. I will gladly plead guilty of that. Because I don't believe
in parochialism. On the other hand, if I feel that a Tamil singer
suits the need of a Hindi film song, I'll take that route without
thinking twice. Why have you cut down on giving breaks to new singers
of late? Let me make this very clear -today, new singe

For me Narumugaye does wonders and makes me go to another world. The
arrangement and orchestration of that song is far beyond words can
express and it was very well picturized too with the black and white
and color mixits one of the bets carnatic film scores and the
singing of Unni Krishnan and Bombay Jayashree is fantastic.Amazing
work.. too bad the movie wasn't well received but I think its one of
Rahmans and Maniratnams all time classics

[arr] Thirakaada Kaatukulle- En Swasa Kaatre

2007-12-03 Thread mmparthi2003
I always wanted to write about this song but I never get the time or I
completely forget while reading other messages.

Don't you guys think this song is just perfect in all ways possible??
Not that his other songs aren't but the composition is just fabulous!
A lot of ppl don't talk about it like Iruvar and Bose but when ever I
listen to this song it makes you feel good and refreshed.

The singer selection couldn't have been better with a lot of classical
touch in between the lines and great instrument usage and
orchestration. The piano interlude which I am guessing played by ARR is
sooo soothing. I think this is one of the classics of ARR. Even though
the song is 7 mins long it feels like it can go on for ever and ever
and you will just need more of it.. I simply love this song and feel
greatful to be able to hear such wonderful classics.

[arr] My JA Blog Review

2008-01-20 Thread mmparthi2003

-for.html

Jodhaa Akbar! - The Music Emperor rules for ever!

  [BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157625253119472050]
 SIGH!

Why am I starting with a sigh? Man what a wait that was! The music
release kept on postponing on and on and on as it would never reach the
hands of his beloved listeners. Then it was a royal launch! Jodhaa's
descendant releasing this magical cd. But then again delays after delays
die hard Rahmanics like me got soo fed up that we started talking about
other Rahman releases. But in between we got the taste of the songs from
youtube and man they ripped the heart out of us. They killed us. They
made us want for more and more and more like the Akshaya Paathiram which
is said that once u start taking rice from it it never stops even if you
ask it to stop! I wish Rahman was a Akshaya Paathiram, but no this
limitness of what he does is the specialty! The time he spends on each
song is the specialty. The care he takes on each song is the specialty,
he treates them even better than his own kids I suppose! He breathes
music and lets others experience his breathe through his music. Every
song says so much about him, his magnificent personality that I Idolize
and change myself everyday to be! How simple but yet how powerful! As if
the god of music is speaking through him, man how lucky I should be to
be sharing my lifetime with him and his music! Priceless!

But finally out of nowhere it arrived! I went crazy and excited and was
dancing around my room. I couldn't even listen to one song properly
because I was that hyper! Then finally I settled in and listened to
them. Speechless! simply Speechless!

  [BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157625261709406690]

My instant and ultimate favorite is In Lamhon! Sung by Sonu Nigam and
Madhushree and all the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. Such a powerful love
duet, and an intense 6.38 minutes. From the lyrics to the extravagant
music and orchestration its such a unique piece. Let me take you through
it. It starts off with a deep beat along with a santoor adding some
beautiful flavor to it. Then slowly Sonu starts singing romantically.
Then slowly the song picks up into this intense musical battle scenario
starting with the cymbals, a deep male voice, some trumpets and other
metal wind instruments, very fast drums (Tabla too) and some crazy
violins at the back wow! crazy orchestration! I couldn't believe what I
was hearing. It was crazy! Then suddenly with a bang we get some jathis
by a male voice which again feels very intense. Very nice rendition of
the jathis. Then it stops with a bang of the cymbals, and Sonu Nigam
transforms form this romantic voice at the beginning to this powerful,
strong, commanding like voice which is accompanied some fantastic beats.
I absolutely love this part. Nice complementary by the deep drums. Your
heart pumps and gives you this extra energy listening to this part
starting from 2.10mins and wait it stops suddenly at 2.45 and starts off
again with the romantic music. Then another interlude started off with a
santoor and lead off by a sitar complimented by Navin's flute.Splendid!.
And here comes the angelic voice of Madhushree! I think this is one of
her best sung songs ever! Her voice nicely utilized and it feels so good
listening to her part especially when she sings "Ke hai prem aag men",
it felt i am being loved by Madhushree's voice! Wow..I am dumbfounded.
But wait...here comes the beautiful silence and stillness, Sonu sings
softly all alone with no instruments and sings:

Mere khwaboun ke is gulistaan mein, tumse hi to bahaar chaayee hai
[In my garden of dream, flowers have blossomed because of you]
Phooloun mein rang mere the lekin, inn mein khushboo tumhise aayi hai.
[The flowers had my colors, but they have fragnance because of you]

Fantastic! what else can I say! But then the silence is again crashes
with the intense musical battle which we heard at 2.10. Very nice
transition. And the song ends with what it started off with and a bit of
some flute. I should also mention the beauty of the line "Naghme hee
Naghme hain Jaagti, sortee fizaaon mein" which means "there are poems
in the ups and downs of the wind". But the best part is the line is
constructed with ascending notes that start from Naghme hee and goes
down and down and when the "Ishq hai" part comes it goes back up
touching the Naghme note and comes down to the lower note. Nice
complimentary to the lyrics and only class musician like ARR can
construct something like this! I absolutely adore this song! Fabulous
lyrics by Javed as well! This song will live for ge

with great expectations. However, it all turns out to be anticipation
in vain as Jodhaa Akbar turns out to be the first major disappointment
of 2008.
>
> In the praise of Shahenshah Akbar comes the opening track
'Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah'. High on orchestra, the track has ¡grand¢
written all over it and deserves an opulent treatment to it. Crooned
by Mohammed Aslam, Bonnie Chakraborty and Chorus, the track hails
Akbar for creating an empire where there is peace, harmony, and great
life all around. The song doesn't belong to the kind which could be
sung around or played loud at home but would do well when seen on the
big screen, provided the picturisation is as lavish as Rahman's efforts.
>
> Javed Ali, who has been trying to make his mark over last 3-4 years,
gets a big break in the form of 'Jashn-E-Bahaaraa'. Sounding quite
close to Sonu Nigam, Javed does well in his rendition of this slow
track that is in complete contrast to 'Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah' in
its treatment. Javed Akhtar saab's poetry is in full flow for this
love song which comes close to the style of 60¢s in it's tune and flow.
>
> However, one misses the kind of punch as expected from the first
romantic song of the album and the final outcome turns out to be
little lackluster with not much in the song pulling a listener for a
repeat hearing. Towards the album's end, a 'Flute Instrumental'
version of the song is heard as well, which works better as a core
background piece which could be enjoyed with lights switched off.
>
> Kashif written 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' is a devotional track, which is
strictly for Rahman fans. Rendered by Rahman himself, it has the kind
of arrangements as heard in 'Kehna Hi Kya' [Bombay]. With minimal
instruments in play, 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' has its strength lying in
it's lyrics but that too has minimal target audience due to the
track's genre and setting. Overall, a situational piece that seems
like an unlikely candidate to make much headway into current crop of
audience. An 'Oboe Instrumental' piece for the same track comes at the
album's end and yet again has the kind of treatment, which hardly
promises a popular reach out.
>
> 'In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein' that comes later turns out to be most
laidback of all and just doesn't ignite the kind of spark that one had
been hunting for in this soundtrack so far. It's one thing to be slow
and another to be just plain and simple drag (if boring is too harsh a
word here)! By this time, one seriously starts wondering if Rahman was
asked to work on the album really-really hard or did he actually
finish the job in a jiffy? In spite of presence of Sonu Nigam and
Madhushree, the song just doesn't click at all and in the end what one
gets to hear is a number which fails to impress and ends without
making any impression.
>
> On the lines of 'O Paalan Haari' [Lagaan] (genre wise) comes 'Mann
Mohanaa¢, which is yet, another devotional track after 'Khwaja Mere
Khwaja'. This time around, it is Bela Shinde's turn to sing a number
for Lord Krishna as the character of Jodha played by Aishwarya Rai
turns over to God. Just like the rest of the album, this one too
doesn't go any further than being ordinary and ends without creating
any place in the heart (or the music collection) of the listener.
>
> Special attraction of the music album of Jodhaa Akbar is a bonus DVD

with a few posters, story and cast and crew details of the film
>
> The album kicks off well with a high adrenalin title song but beyond
that there isn't much to look forward to. Jodhaa Akbar would work with
a miniscule segment of audience and that too only in certain big

[arr] Jashn E Bahaara Instrumental- What a treat!

Man first it was the Javed Ali version...now this instrumental version
is simply seducing me! Its playing on my MP3 player 24 hours a day and
it simply transports me to this different world and the feeling is
amazing! Fantastic fantastic! work by Navin! couldn't be proud of him
moretheres so much alankars and little playful notes he has tried
and I simply admired it! then also the experiment with the two
different flutes for each saranams are fabulous..subtle contrast but
very wlel executed! its not like listening to a instrumental version
of a songit has its own specialty...own uniqueness...and own
magic! awesome! Navin and Rahman! fabulous!!!

[arr] Kesariya Baalam and Rahman

2008-03-29 Thread mmparthi2003
I noticed that not only Kesariya Balam was sung in the Jaipur concert
which was not surprising because of the Rajasthani roots of the song
and the movie Dor..but this song has been performed in almost all
Rahman concerts recently...I witnessed Karsan Saargathiya singing it
in Toronto

But eventhough this is not a rahman composition its simply a fabulous
song...fabulous singing and breathtaking instrumentation...

My question is whats the connection between rahman and this song? Is
it his favorite song from the past few years thats not his? Or did he
have something to do with this song?

The fact that I mentioned about it is that when you hear such things
it takes away the love you had for that song or entire album
It just makes you think oh comon really? plz say no...

I didn't find this similarity my self...my friend within one hear
identified itanother friend identified similarities of Pappu and
another song...that just really made me pissed!

Because when I got the album I just went so hyper enjoying it and
suddenly when hearing such claim it was like pushing me down into the
groundI really wish I didnt hear the similarities but it just took
away the pure element!

Jaane Tu is one fantastic album but such thigns really make me sad
because thats how much I love ARR and his music

I dnt wanna argue with you...but its not simply the instrument...if
you look closely at the english song the chorus is similar...NOT THE
SAME...SIMILAR!

[arr] Delhi 6- Movie my view!

Delhi 6 - A Sixer by ROM!

The Roshan that conquered the Bandar of movies, Delhi 6 for me was
enlightening and a refresher of what life should be and what religions
should be. Chandini Chowk of Delhi has be chosen as a fantastic
backdrop to explore different theme such as personal freedom, caste
differences, religious differences and above all the darkness that
every man has in him that brings out his acts of supidity. I am
previledged and honored to write the movie review of Delhi 6 as my
first post in this blog.

What can free a man form ignorance? The Light! And that light came in
the form of Abhishek Bachchan trying to make a difference in this
small block of Chandini Chowk. A movie full of metaphors and symbolism
that is truly a masterpiece in my opinion. A very unique and new style
of narration and story telling thats fresh and interesting for the
viewer. There are no dull moments, the comedy and music interwoven
with the story itself. Its weaved and weaved like the rich Indian silk
and the end product is nothing short of grandeur, and excellence and
mastering of the art of cinema by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. Masakalli
the white dove that symbolizes freedom; Roshan the light that frees
the darkness; Kala Bandar the black monkey, the ignorance that
surrounds us; the Tulsi tree the symbol of a new beginning and the
story of Ramayan, the rich history the land of India is proud of and
of course draws the parallels with the incidents; the mirror which
reflects that Gods within search for him inside!

A R Rahmans music and background score is the cool magical rain for
the rustic Chowk! Abhishek, Sonam, Waheeda, Rishi Kapoor, Atul, Divya
Dutta, Om Puri excel as actors. Binod Pradhans cinematography is treat
for the eyes and Prasoon Joshi's lyrics are lasting. The movie that
might fail with the masses is sure to enthrall the urban enthusiastic
and the sophisticated! A movie that will last Delhi 6 is a Sixer by
ROM! Hats Off!

P.S: Critics like Taran Adarsh and others who bashed the film theres
just one thign I've got to say, you guys aren't matured enough to
understand new cinema or change in Hindi Cinema or the maturity to
understand rich cinema and mature subjects dealt in a sophisticated
movies like Delhi 6, therefore Grow Up!
