This is a Shankar Film When a great director like Shankar, and a star like Super Star joined hands, along with the banner of AVM, we were sure that the expectations would be very high, and this song exceeded those expectations. We worked very hard for this song. Shankar wanted some different beginning in the first two phrases of lyrics. [arr] Vairamuthu Neram - 1. Theendai Padi Theendai 2. MOTHER SONG ( ARR shedding tears.... Theezil Vizhundha Theena )
VM Neram - Lyricists 's Fav list Whenever there arises an opportunity to use ancient old Tamil lyrics in modern day Tamil Songs, I never get to lose those opportunities. Currently, a song gets developed in accordance with modern day techniques. But the source and the root of the song has been the ideas and thoughts of age old songs and lyrics. Tamil has got that spirit and fame, which doesn't exist for other languages. So, I always desire to include age old literature in my songs, and always look for such an opportunity. Even a minor opportunity is not left loose. Such an opportunity came to me for a song . Kanrum Unnadhu, Kalathinulum padathu ( Theendai Song from EN swasa Kaatre) These were the words of ancient old Tamil Litreature , and I used in in my song from En Swasa Kaatre For writing the lyrics of some songs, we leave out of Tamil Nadu, and many a time, out of India also. For eg Iruvar songs were written sitting in Maldives One song from Rhythm was written in Indonesia A.R. Rahman is a great fan of Tamil Language. He will start loving, if he gets good lyrics, and start caressing them. He says , Ah aaha. I handed over some of my lyrics to him, after affixing my signature on them. The Name of the Work was Konjam Theener Neraya Vaanam ( Little bit of tea and a lot more of the sky ) It was a collection of the literature works which got released in Kumudam Magazine on a weekly basis . One of the lyrics in that collection got imprinted in A.R. Rahman's heart. I have written some writings titled Mudhan Murai Ammavukku ( For the first time for the mother), and it's a work on rural genre. I also started thinking to myself. I have written a lot of lyrics on so many topic like 1. Moon 2. Love 3. Sky 4. Birth 5. Death 6. Male- Female relationship 7. Life But suddenly it striked me, Have we written on the mother ?!. How come I missed writing on the mother. !. That thought gave rise to this song. Aayirundhaan Kavi Sonnen Azhag Azhaga Poi Sonnen Pettavale Un Perumai Otta Vari Sollalaye. Kaathu ellam Magan Paatu; Kagidhathil Avan Ezhuthu Oorellam Avan pechu Un keerthu ezhadillaye Ezhadavo Padikkavo Eeradha Thai patti Ezhudi enna Labumno Ezhadama Poneno ………. ( Its so tough … Will upload it hear it) The lyrics ends with the famous lyrics which occurs in GODFATHER from the song Theezil Vizhunda Theena After reading these lyrics, A.R. Rahman who has lots of love for his mother, shed tears. A.R. Rahman, my brother, is a person, who adores and respects his mother like anything ( Here VM addresses ARR as Thambi….. meaning younger brother ) He kept telling me this again and again, and requested me to bring these lyrics into a song. A good opportunity came for the same from the film GODFATHER. It was A.R. Rahman who was responsible for getting the lyrics into that song. So long as motherhood exists in this world, this song will last for ever. P.S. I will be uploading Audio files tomorrow... -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always
[arr] Vairamuthu Neram ( Most Fav Music Director A.R. Rahman and the song, Kannodu Kanbthellam from JEANS)
Vairamuthu Neram – Favourite Music Directors Amidst us in the Film Industry, there are a lot of Talented stalwarts who have lived and passed away, who have left the world, but still are living in our thoughts, and who are still living with us. ( The Program starts first with the song, Maya Machindra from INDIAN ) 1. *ISAI PUYAL A.R. RAHMAN ( Ranks No. 1 in Vairamuthu sir's Favourite List )* Many people have the thought and are thinking that Isaipuyal A.R. Rahman has a lot of western influence in his music and songs. But there is a song Kannodu Kanbathellam, which proved the world, that he is much experienced and talented in the field of Classical Music also. I was with him, when he composed the tune of this song, and also with him. When he recorded the song. I have been with him altogether, and have been a witness of his love and passion for Carnatic Music. When thought over, about who should be singing this song, It was a common decision that Nityashree should be singing it. When she came for singing that song, it didn't appear as if she was a Play back singer coming to sing . We were all enjoying that a great Music Talent is going to sing this song. After she sang the song, she did a small Swara piece, which gave us goosebumps. We made some minor changes in the song. There are certain grammatical changes, which are bitter even to people who have learnt literature. People who have studied Literature wont enter into Grammatical theory that fast. So, we inserted a Grammatical note inside this song. There are differences between Irratai Kilavi and Adhukku Todar ( Unable to find English translation for these…) Irratai Kilavai = Tamil words which don't give meaning, when they get separated Adhukku Thodar = Tamil words which come one after another. Lyrics in the song, Sala Sala Sala Sala Rettai Kilavi Thag thaga Thaga rettai Kilavi Undallo Tamiyil Undallo so similarly, the heroine says, that like these words which don't get separated from each other, we are twins in the film ( esp in the song, u can see two Aishwarya Rais) , and we wont get separated from each other. Once this song got released, the entire Tamil Nadu started talking about Tamil Grammer and Literature. There were debates about what is Rettai Kilavi ??? . Myself and Rahman were joking to each other. Tamil people wont listen to Tamil Litreature, when taught by Avvaiyar ( the great Tamil saint of yesteryears ) . It appears like Tamilians will listen to Literature, only if taught by Aishwarya Rai. That song has brought credibility to Carnatic Music and also to Tamil Language at the same instance. -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always
[arr] Vairamuthu Neram - Rain Songs ( 1. Chinna Chinna Mazhaithuligal 2. Sotta Sotta Niniyadhu Tajmahal)
Vairamuthu Neram – Rain Songs Right from my childhood, I have been having friendship with Rain. Playing with Rain, getting wet in rain, being to the fields in rainy season are all the experiments that I have done to myself during those times. *Chinna Chinna Mazhai Thuligal – En Swasa Kaatre * When we need to fix a garland of jasmine flowers, the binding thread is the banana leaf. If I would like to fix a garland out of rain droplets, with what can I bind them ?. I started thinking. They tell to keep the lion's milk in a golden bowl. When thought about how to bind all these rain droplets together, a thought struck me, as to why not bind it with the sound of Thunder Lightning ( Minnal OLiyil Naar kizhital enna ?? ) ( Why cant we bind the rain droplets through the thread of lightning!!) Chinna Chinna Mazhai Thuligal Sethu vaipeno, Minnal Ozhiyil Nool Edhuthu Koorthu vaipeno. Oh People who desire Rain ! When it rains, pls don't close your doors and be inside, but come outside and enjoy it. *Sotta Sotta Ninaiyadhu Tajmahal – TAJMAHAL * * * There is a beautiful writing in Andhra about rain. The husband has separated himself from the wife. Bearing not the sorrow, the wife is crying about it inside the house. The hut doesn't have closed roof. The baby son is in the laps of the mother. At this situation, she tells a lyric, The broken roof is leaking. The water which is leaking out of the roof is falling on her, and on the son eventually. The mother, out of her love for the baby, pulls herself forward to safeguard the son from getting wet in the rain. At that juncture, the scriptwriter says a poem, Oh Lady ! you are burdened with sorrow of separation. You became an umbrella to safeguard your own baby. Ok. You have safeguarded your baby son out of the droplets of rain, but how will you safeguard him from the droplets of your tears ??. This emotional poem got imprinted in my hearts and was lying hidden inside. That poem came out in disguise in the song, Sotta Sotta Ninaiyadhu Tajmahal. In that song, the heroine tells, Sotta Sotta Ninaiyadhu tajmahal, Kodai onnum vendaam vaa vaaya. No need of any umbrella. Lets get drenched in the rain. Everyone thinks like that, but she changes it suddenly in the next sentence. Iruvarum Aalukku Oru Kodai aavom ( Let both of us become an umbrella to each of us) . I am an umbrella to you, and you are an umbrella to me. So, she tells the hero not to be afraid of the rain. More than the joy experienced out of writing this song, I experienced the excitement, in the way Bharathiraaja had picturised the song. -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always

Sotta Sotta Ninaiyadhu Tajmahal – TAJMAHAL There is a beautiful writing in Andhra about rain. -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always Unlimited freedom, unlimited storage. [arr] Vairamuthu Neram ( Songs of JODI... Case of a movie , which was an outcome because of Songs )
Vairamuthu Neram Tamil Film Kadhalakku Mariyadhai was dubbed back in Hindi. The name of the film was ' Doli Saja Ke rakhna. A.R. Rahman composed the music of the film. A.R. Rahman called me and wanted the songs to be reintroduced to Tamil listeners. He gave me the tunes, and wanted Tamil songs to be written for the same. There was no Director , no story, but only a producer for the same. They told me to listen the songs, and write lyrics of my own style. They wanted it to be released as Music by A.R. Rahman, and Lyrics by Vairamuthu. I wrote and gave them. No story; No Director, and I wrote it to the best of my enjoyment and feeling. Listening it to them, the Producer got an idea. The songs have come out quite well. The songs have come out very well in the music of rahman and in the lyrics by Vairamuthu Sir. Why cant we produce a film , for the sake of the songs ? !!!. Such a thought lead the way to the film titled, Jodi. The songs of this movie were decided, well before, the director, the actors and the other crew were decided for the movie. So, this was a case of a movie which fructified because of songs) -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always

[arr] Vairamuthu Neram - Monday Tuesday
Monday: === VM described about a few songs in which he had used unusual words... He goes like this One of such songs was 'Chandranai Thootathu Yar Armstrong-a'. Chandranai Thootathu Yar Armstrong-a Adi Armstrong-a Sathiyamai Thottathu Yar Naan thane Adi naan thaane After seeing this, ARR told me that it was different and had good meaning but that Armstrong word was very strong in that place (Antha Armstrong-nRa vaarthai romba strong-a irukke) and that it would not suit the tune. So he asked me to change that. We started debating It kept going. Finally, I told him, 'Let's see whether the singer has any trouble singing that line and we will decide whether to keep it or not. We agreed. Singer Hariharan was on the flight, coming to Chennai from Mumbai ('Hariharan aahathil Irunthar, naangal vivathikkondirukkumbothu'). Hariharan came to the studio. ('Thanathu koondalai alli mudithukku konde vandhar). 'Which song?' I read the lyrics. He said, 'Wow!. It's different.' ('Vithiyasama irukke'). But we did not tell him anything about our debate. Then ARR taught the tune. Recording (or rehearsal) started. Hariharan sang it in such a way that the same word became so soft in that place (something like that). Finally, ARR agreed to keep that line... Once the recording was complete, we told this story to Hariharan. ('Paatu patta paatai hariharanukku sonnom'). Tuesday: == At times, we have to wait for a month for Yesudas; 15 days for SPB; or a week for Chitra. During such times we record songs with temp singers to help the team go for shooting. Once, ARR was ready with the tune. So was I with the lyric. But the team had to go for shooting the very next day (I don't remember whether he said a day or a week). We wanted it to be sung by Janaki / Sujatha / Chitra. But we did not have time. At the time, once girl came to ARR studio looking for a chance. We decided to record that song with that girl's voice for the time being and keep the song if it comes out well. We recorded the song. After recording, we played the song. We played it again. And the next day; And the day after. After a week. We liked it very much. Her voice suited the tune very well and we finally decided to keep her voice as it was very difficult for us to imagine someone else singing that song... That was the song that made history. [arr] Vairamuthu Neram ( Nila Kaigiradhu, Vennilave )
Vairamuthu Neram – Moon Songs 1. *Nila Kaigiradhu – INDRA* Man has achieved everything through scientific means. In this century, man has been able to achieve everything through these means. This century also happens to be the one , where man is in his heights of sorrow. As long as man is advancing in Science, he is distancing himself, from Nature. Nature loves man, but man is unable to get time to love Nature. Man has been distancing himself, from Nature, and this painful feeling has to be got into songs and music. So, this song was an outcome of such a pain, and a feeling. Moon is calling mankind. Man is below the blanket. Moon wants to touch mankind. But he is within the blanket. Each and every grass is calling man to come and walk on him. But, he is is cornering himself, with slippers on his foot. So, the distance between man and nature is widening. This should not happen. Oh Nature ! You are the mother. You are God. You are the very source. Man should understand that, and then only will there be a fixation between man and nature. Then will there be a relationship between man and nature. Nature is mankind and mankind becomes nature. Only when such a feeling is imprinted, the life becomes fruitful. 1. *Ven Nilave ( Minsara Kanavu )* Rajeev Menon is a very good admirer of Tamil language. He has also learnt many languages, and has read literature in a lot of other languages. After reading a song of mine, he said, There are moon songs in all languages. Everyone will think till this stage. I don't have any companion to play with. I am alone, so, Moon, pls come and play with me. This is not something new, and every lyricist and poet has been thinking on these lines before. Just as how a mother feels bad for a child, when he / she doesn't return back after school on time, similarly, the sky feels worried, when the moon doesn't return back to the sky. So, we calling the moon to play with us, and requesting it to go back to its place of the sky was a new concept, and Rajeev Menon said that it was a new idea, which was never seen anywhere else. Usually, I don't go to the shooting spot, where my songs are picturised. There has been no time for me to go for the same. I have the yearning, but don't have the time. Among the songs , which I desired to go and see the picturisation, this song is also one of them. When the song was picturised in AVM Studio, I was also present. Thanks a lot Vithur for taking the time to wirte it up for us. Much appreciated! Is anyone by any chance recording the program? (Aravind?) If so it would be great if you could share the audio file with us. Thanks!
Re: [arr] Vairamuthu Neram
Actually Recording the program is a very tough task. Because, unlike Rahmania, this program is not entirely devoted for ARR. VM may talk abt Illayaraja 's compositions, abt MSV s, and or in fact some songs of his own choice from an unknown film in the 40s, 50s. And the commercials, in betweeen kill the essence of the program I am sure Aravind AM would know, how tough it is. Even recording Rahmania is nowadays so tough. The commercials part is too high, compared to the content part. On Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 2:18 AM, Indmov Buff [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thanks a lot Vithur for taking the time to wirte it up for us. Re: [arr] Vairamuthu Neram - July 18, 2008 ( 5 songs of ARR explained )
Composing a tune for written lyrics is supposed to be very tough. Good to see that ARR has done it and how. Hats off to the man. Warm Regards ~~~ Vinayak On Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:59 AM, Vithur [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In Vairamuthu Neram today, *Uppu Kaaruvaadu SONG ( Mudhalvan ) * At times, a lyricist is compelled to write lyrics to suit the story, the time , the song comes in the picture, and his creativity is stalled to a certain extent. When I was writing lyrics for Mudhalvan, the scene was like , One Day CM wants to ease out, of his official side, meet his lover in the village, spend some time with her, and share his love for her. I started writing lyrics, and for which Rahman composed a superb melody tune. Dir Shankar also liked it, and he called me at 12 AM in the night, and congratulated me for the same, and told, that I have done an excellent job, and the same could also be picturised using all Visual Effects, as the way he wanted. The next day morning, the same Shankar called me, and apologised with me saying, that he wanted a new set of lyrics, as the tune itself was undergoing a change. I was very upset with him, and didnt talk to anyone for a day. He called me later, and explained me the situation, Dir Shankar told me , Sir. Actually, this song comes in a climax in the film, when the hero goes to see his heroine in the village, and this comes in the fag end of the film. If a melody song, was fitted at that moment, the audience would be compelled to leave the film, at that juncture, as a slow song, at that juncture would have made them loose the feel of the speedness of the movie. So, he wanted a Kutthu song ( A song with fast beats ) at that junction, and thus came out, Uppu Karuvaadu Oora vacha Sooru . After seeing the film, and the song, I agreed with Shankar and told him, that his decision was the right one . Many a times, The lyricist is compelled to change his skills to suit the timing of the song in the movie. *Nadhiye Nadhiye song* ( Rhythm) I was on flight to Singapore, and was supposed to go to Jakartha for attending a Tamil Awards Function. I received a call, asking for an urgent song. They wanted it very urgently, and that the picturisation of the song was the next day. On way to Jakartha, from Singapore, I wrote the lyrics of Nadhiye Nadhiye for Rhythm *Sahaaana Saral ( SIvaji ) * ** Azhage Azhage Nee Aaradi Pani Thuliyaaa , The song is like the hero singing this song on the heroine, praising her, to see, if she is 6 ft in height.. When this song was to be picturised, the sets of the song was put up in Hyderabad. The set was made like that of a glass building. This song was echoed in the sets. When everyone heard it there, the song was good, but it didnt suit well with the set put up there . They wanted a song , to suit the sets. The sets expected a different type of a song. Dir Shankar came back to me, and requested me saying that the song was good, but didnt suit the set arrangements fixed over there . I replied to Shankar saying, What is this Shankar ?. Till now, I was writing only for Mettu ( the tune of the song ) , and you have made me write lyrics for settu ( the Set Arrangements ). If it doesnt suit the Metttu ( the tune ) , I will change it and give, and if it doesnt suit the settu ( the sets ) , what am I to do ?. I grumbled, and along with this grumble, came out the Sahaana Saraal song . *Rasaathi Song ( Thiruda Thiruda ) * Maniratnam came to me and said that , You have poured out your feelings to a greater extent in this song. The expectations are very high now. This song has raised the expectations of a big Love Epic ( kaviyam in tamil ) . But in the story, I dont have that much to tell. If a film fan who comes with high expectations of wishing a big Love Epic, and doesnt see that much impact in the film, the film flops, and doesnt become a success. So, he told me to write lyrics seeing the story, seeing the actors in the film. Dont keep love lyrics which have a deep influence in light subject stories.. This was the request made by Maniratnam to me. When Bharathiraaja saw me , he jealously asked me, That song should have been written for me. The song was expected to raise the film, the song which impacted me, and in the same way, impacted the movie in a negative sense. *Evano Oruvan song ( Initially to be in IRUVAR, but then came out in Alaiypayudhey ) * ** With the help of Manirathnam, I was called and told, You have written the lyrics of the song, Just start and come. I went to Rahman studio, and to my surprise found that my song was already composed. A. R. Rahman had composed a song out of my writings ( Vairamuthu Kavidaigal ) . To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Date: Thursday, 24 July, 2008, 11:32 PM In Vairamuthu Neram today, 1.Chittathatinal Konda Pithathinal ( Duet ) Myself and A.R. Rahman worked very hard with strenous effort for the film Duet. A.R. Rahman selected some lyrics from my works titled, Thiruti Ezhudiya Theerpugal ( Rectified Writings of Judgements). We were thinking of who could be the best singer who can sing the same. This should come as a Voice, and should also be in a tune. It should be mid way between the tune, and the utterings of the words. So, we decided that instead of a singer singing this, it would be better, if the hero himself could be used to narrate these lyrics , and sing them, instead of a stand alone singer doing it. The Director also accepted it. A. R. Rahman also accepted it. The Hero didnt want to accept it, and was hesitant. We called Actor Prabhu to the Composing Studio. We asked him to read the lyrics. He is elder to me, but would address me as Anne ( Elder brother ) . Pls read the poem yourself, or make it possible by someone who knows better Tamil than me. I replied, No No. You are the successor of Nadigar Thilagam ( Sivaji Ganesan) . It would be a great fame for me, if you read this. You cannot corner yourself, as not knowing Tamil. . He told, that he has studied in convent, and was apprehensive, but I insisted in him doing it. He did a wonderful job in rendering it in the movie 2. Udal Mannukku ( IRUVAR ) Of all the movies of Maniratnam, I like Nayagan and Iruvar. I consider it a very great opportunity to write lyrics for the film Iruvar. Because its a periodical film. The film starts in the 50s, and ends in the 80s. During these 30 years, how the beauty of the language has changed, how the lifestyles have changed., how the political system has changed, have been depicted very well in that movie. I came to write in the 80s. , and the film gave me an experience of writing songs for about 40 years. There was a beautiful story line, depicted in that movie. when MGR, wanted to utilise his very first chance in movies, what sort of song would he sing, if he acts in a King, Queen movie. This sort of situation was given to me by Maniratnam, and he wanted me to write lyrics for the same The style of the 40s, and the 50s should be replicated in a movie, which has to be screened in the 90s. I started practising and learning the style of the lyrics that was used in those times. This is not a song, but its like a declaration. There was a question, as to who would sing, or utter these lyrics in the movie ?. we all thought that , A.R. Rahman could do it himself. But he didnt want to do it. Some people thought of making it done with the help of some play back singers. That was also not accpted. Some people wanted me to do it myself. I told them in a very polite and decent fashion, that my voice neednt come for the Film Industry. Finally, Maniratnam decided that if uttered by Arvind Swamy, it would be great. I started teaching Arvind Swamy this song. Udal Mannukku, Uyir Thamizukku. I consider it a great blessing, if this song could be added to the Lists of famous writings on Dravida Kazhagam 3. Aalakanda ( Sangamam ) More than the singers, its always the Music Director, who sings the maximum number of times, a song. Right from the time, the song is composed, till it is finished, its the Music Director, who takes the strains in giving it a complete touch. Its the Music Director, who out of his voice, out of his skills, out of his fashion gives life to a song. A singer starts singing the song, only after the Music Director gives him the frame work, and after the MD digesting it to the core. There has been more than 100 songs sung by MSV . [arr] Vairamuthu Neram ( Thai Manne Vanakkam, iruvar .....)
In Vairamuthu Neram today, *1.Chittathatinal Konda Pithathinal ( Duet ) * ** Myself and A.R. He did a wonderful job in rendering it in the movie *2. Udal Mannukku ( IRUVAR ) * Of all the movies of Maniratnam, I like Nayagan and Iruvar. I consider it a great blessing, if this song could be added to the Lists of famous writings on Dravida Kazhagam *3. Aalakanda ( Sangamam ) * ** More than the singers, its always the Music Director, who sings the maximum number of times, a song. I got a great opportunity to write lyrics for a song which he sung. That song was for the film Sangamam. A. R . Rahman composed the music for the film. This song appears like a situation, where the dead father sings at his son, ( like his soul singing it ) This song became very famous, and I started getting calls from a lot of people. Once my car was halting near Teynampet Signal ( CHENNAI ) . There was a person who was standing in a cycle near my car. he saw me through the mirror of the car, and spotted me . he asked me to waive the glass down. he said, ' Sir. The way you have written lyric esp those words, Magane Magane ( Oh Son, Oh Son ) . after hearing to it, I have started crying very badly. I started getting memories of my father. You should live for long. . I cannot forget the praises that I got from that cyclist , in tha t teynampet Signal. This is more than a National Award to me. What more does a writer need ? *Thai Manne Vanakkam ( Vande MATARAM ) * ** A.R. Rahman always had a slight hesitation, about his voice , and about his singing. If he sings, will the world accept it ??. Will the music world accept it ?. In his very first song, Chinna Chinna aasai, where he hums that interlude, we observed it and found out that he has got a very bright future as a singer too During the time

[arr] Vairamuthu Neram - ( Anbe Anbe - Jeans ; En kadhaley - Duet, Uyire - Bombay )
In Vairamuthu Neram, *En kadhaley ( Duet )* When the tune of the song was ready,,, I asked Rahman, Enna pa ( Oh brother ) , How come you composed such a tune. Only people who have been in deep love can compose such tunes. . for which he replied, Yes . I am also in Love. I am in love with my music. . The way, SPB had sung the lyrics, gave me tears, and, I caught his hands , and thanked him so much. The rendition of the song, gives such a wonderful effect, full of remorse and feelings. *Uyire ( Bombay )* This song is the best song , that would have moved me in my life ( for the lyrics which I have written ). The speciaility of this song, is the way, in which it is done. Its like a situation, where the male singer comes and sings and finishes it and goes. And then the female singer comes, and she does her rendition and makes us feel, that she has done much more better than the male singer. Its such a wonderful song, that it refreshes , I listen to it. *Ennavale ( Kaadhalan )* A song, for which lyrics were liked me so much next to the old song ( Pavadai Dhavanayo ... Old song ) and which was in those lines is Ennavale from Kaadhalan... * Anbe Anbe ( Jeans ) * ** A song which I wrote after seeing the actress is this song. I saw her in the stage. she was very simple. She was like a damsel, bathed in milk. There was some depth in her beauty, and no pomp or show. There was some attraction. [arr] Vairamuthu Neram - July 18, 2008 ( 5 songs of ARR explained )
In Vairamuthu Neram today, *Uppu Kaaruvaadu SONG ( Mudhalvan ) * At times, a lyricist is compelled to write lyrics to suit the story, the time , the song comes in the picture, and his creativity is stalled to a certain extent. Evano Oruvan Vasikirran, Iruttil irundhu Naan Yaasikiren. I gave the lyrics immediately, and within 2 hrs, Rahman composed the music for the lyrics. , and by the next day, it was sent to Sri Lanka. The same lyrics was composed by a song for doordarshan by M.S.Vishwanathan. I remember Jayachandran used to sing the song. it would telecast as Mellisai. And then came the Pudhiya mugam version, out of the world composition to the same lyrics. One of THE BEST of ARR compositions. Kannuku mai azhagu is one of my all time fav of Rahman and to know that it was composed for the lyrics surely delights me. On 7/17/08, Vithur [EMAIL PROTECTED] com wrote: In Vairamuthu Neram today, Maniratnam asked Rahman to set the tune of the love song ( Pudhu vellai Mazhai from ROJA ) to be like that of in Kashmir, and wanted the tune of the song also to be chilling. Neither me nor A.R. Rahman could understand that. How can the tune become chilling ?. Maniratnam wanted it to be like , a chilling type, even when the song is heard. Nothing could be understood. After hearing to many tunes, finally, he composed a tune in Kanada raga. That is Pudhu Vellai Mazhai song tune. When you hear the tune itself, it would be like that of a chilling nature. The sweeetness of the tune itself is like that. The uniqueness of the tune is the same. Maniratnam wanted me to write lyrics which will chill out . Initially, I wrote the lyrics like , Idhu Kashmirama, Ingu Kargalama. Yendhan Kovil Pura, indha kulir thangumaaa. The song was considered to be excellent. Rahman liked it, and Maniratnam also praised it. After everyone praised, Maniratnam told, that for this tune, the lyrics cannot become more better. But, lets not have it like this. I asked, Why ?. Maniratnam replied, I am going to show Kashmir on the screen. Why are you also reinstating on Kashmir by way of the lyrics. ?. Suppose, I lose the opportunity to shoot the scenes in Kashmir, and take it in Ooty, then wont it be a disgrace if the lyrics state that its Kashmir ? . Hence, Pls write it in such a manner, that the lyrics are written in such a way, that no one knows, where its is shot from. I got mesmerised, when I wrote the lyrics for the song, Ilaya Nila poyigirudhu ( Illaarayaja 's composition ) . I have wondered myself, if Tamil Language could be handled in such a fashion. Maniratnam wanted such a song for this situation. Then came, Pudhu vellai Mazhai Ingu poyigindradhu. .. After the song was picturised, could I realise, the justification behind Maniratnam asking me for such lyrics. For a film by name Pudiya Mugam, Dir Suresh Menon was starting towards Sri Lanka. He wanted a song immediately to Rahman. A. R. Rahman told him, to go to Lanka, and and that he would compose it and send it to him. Suresh Menon was telling that if the song wasnt there, there would be no shooting. Then, Rahman looked at me, and asked me if I had some song in my store. I told him, yes... [arr] Vairamuthu Neram - July 16, 2008
In Vairamuthu Neram today, He speaks, For the film Kizhakku Cheemayile, we had been to a village in interior parts of Tamil Nadu. Dir Bharathiraaja requested me to write lyrics for a song. We sat together to have breakfast. IN front of me, Actor Napolen and Vijaykumar were seated. Both were sitting with big moustaches. I asked , as to who are they in the movie ?. They are brother-in-laws. Radhika's brother is Vijayakumar, and husband is Napolean. The brother cries, when he parts away with his sister after marriage. The sister cries, bearing the pain of seperation. The cart is moving in the outskirts of the city. A song has to be written in that situation. When I was seeing both of these actors, I developed a desire seeing their moustaches. I asked the Director, as to who is the good man , and who is the bad man among the two. Vijayakumar, brother was a good man, and Napolean, husband would turn bad in the later part of the story. I started analysing their moustaches, and noticed that Vijayakumar 's mush was a little peace loving one, and Napolean 's was one which was desirous of violence. This mush was the roots for that song Kaatalan Kaatu Vazhi , Kallipatti pora vazhi . In that song, there would be a portion, as if sung by Radhika ( the sister ) Anil val meesai konda annan unnai vitttu; puli vaal meesai konda purushanoda poi varuvaaa Meaning :- I am leaving the company of my brother, who has got a mush like a squirril, and going with my husband, who has got a mush like that of a tiger. In this, squirril is vegetarian, and tiger means non- veg. Squirril 's tail is a safe one, whereas the tail of the tiger is a dangerous one. Thus, leaving the safe company of brother, and going to the future dangerous company of the husband was portrayed in those lyrics, and the inspiration for the same was the moustache. Oh. Moustache. I thank you for giving me the impetus to write those lyrics. -- regards, Vithur HELP EVER; HURT NEVER; LOVE ALL; SERVE ALL

Vairamuthu sir speaks Lyrics for Kizhakku Cheemayile Manoothu Mandayile..song .. I had written lyrics like Aatu paal kudicha Arivazhundu Pogumunu whereas in Film Annamalai, I had written Aayul valarkudhu aatu paaal , andboth were contradictory. How come Vairamuthu turn so contradictory was the uproar at that time ? I replied with humility and patience . A lyric writer, should never run off, from criticisms . Explanation :- There Gandhi drank goat's milk. ( In Anna malai Film , Intro song for Rajni... Vandhen da paalkaran song ) In Kizhakku Cheemayile, the lyrics were written for a small baby. Uncle had taken milk from kaanan pasu ( a partiucular type of cow ). A small baby cant drink goat milk. I even went and did a research on the fat content of the milk, before writing lyrics. Goat Milk - Fat content - 4.1% and Gandhi has power to digest the fat content Kaanan Pasu - Fat Content - 3.1 % and this can be digested by baby. Hence, when we write lyrics , we should do it with facts, and with proofs to explain everyone. I thank the people for criticising me, and giving me an opportunity to explain to them.. -- regards, Vithur HELP EVER; HURT NEVER; LOVE ALL; SERVE ALL

In Vairamuthu Neram today Oh Oh Kick Yerudhe Song ... Tidbits ... ( Non arr involved ) When he was writing the lyrics as Jeevan Irukku matttum Vazhkai Namakku matttum Idhu Dhan *Jnana Chittar Paatu*... That time, Rajni Sir was doing the shooting for the song , Minsara akanna in Vahini Studios,. That Time, I went and gave the song, and everyone was enjoying the lyrics. I had written it as Rajni Chittar paatu ( instead of Jnana Chittar Paatu ) in the original version. Rajni Sir, called me up, when I returned home, and asked me, that the lyrics Rajni Siddhar paatu was so hard, and how to praise our own selves. I told him that Fans will like it, and lets keep it, and told him not to worry about it. But Rajni Sir was requesting me to change it , and begged like a baby. There was a moment, when he asked,, Will my name appear somewhere, and there was another moment, when he asked, Let my name not appear anywhere ? Rajni is growing. As I wrote for Illayaraja, similarly, I cant forget the first song written by me for Rahman. Ponmalai Pozhidhu for Illayaraja turned open the gates for Film Industry to me, and Chinna Chinna aasai opened the gates of India to me. ( not India alone, but the gates of the full world ) . There was a Japanese Music troupe which came to Tamil Nadu. They were singing Japanese songs. In their troupe, a person suddenly stopped it, and said, that they are going to sing a Tamil song now. I was surprised to know details abt it. A japanese group singing Tamil song. !!! That song was Chinna Chinna aasai. The only Tamil song to have been sung by a Japanese troupe is this CHINNA CHINNA AASAI. This song gave me wings and even for Tamil lanuguage also. Actually, there were some more lyrics like Chithirai Vandhal Thendral Mel aasai; Marghazi Vandhal Veyil Mel aasai; Pul Veligal ellam kalkalaukku aasai; Poovanangal ellam kangalakku aasai; Sarindhu vizha thane Daavanikku aasai ( These were the extra lyrics written,,, but as the last few lyrics couldnt be picturised,, and hence were avoided ) ( Continued tomorrow ) -- regards, Vithur HELP EVER; HURT NEVER; LOVE ALL; SERVE ALL
