You could create a display only field on the form you're importing to and have workflow take care of 1) the replace function 2) move to the diary field. This will prevent you from having double entries in the diary field.

We've been importing .csv files with
the 4.5.2 import tool for some time. We could modify the mapping file to
include "\r\n" and that would be interpreted as char 13, and char

want to continue using the 4.5.2 import tool. And the 6.0.1 import tool is
interpreting "\r\n" as just char 10. Thus the problem.

If I remember correctly I thought it only
imported returns when it was importing from a .arx format. I don't
remember .csv files ever supporting return characters in the import.

It used to be (and this is back in the ancient 4.5.2 days)
that you could include \r in your import mapping to embed character 13.
But now with the 6.0.1 Import Tool, \r seems to be ignored. I have
not tested any 5.x Import Tools.

Can anyone tell me another way to insert a character
13? At this point I have to use Excel (!) to "build" a field
line by line, sticking char 13 and 10 in manually.

Title: Whatsup --> Remedy
**

I have
just done an integration from our NMS to Remedy that fires on NMS event
generation and raises Remedy tickets for specified events - this could be a
serverevent. The integration connects to the NMS event handler and
waits for events to be sent to it,then uses the Remedy API to connect with
the AR server and create the new entries in the relevant
form(s).

If you
have the Remedy documentation for the API then you can get started in either
Java, C, perl etc. There is now a good C++ wrapper call RTL that is
available at sourceforge if you're a C programmer and want to be relieved of the
nitty gritty of the C API functions, memory handling etc.

Web giving issues

2006-04-26 Thread Nisha RAMTRI
Hello All,

We have one of our servers where we had installed patch 15 for mid-tier to
solve an issue. We are on ARS6.03. But due to some reasons we had to rollback
to patch 14 for mid-tier. Now at the same time we were also importing the def
of HP:Helpdesk form one other server to this server. Now after rollback to
patch 14 and import I have noticed that web is behaving strangely. The native
client of HelpDesk on citrix server works fine.
The problem is that any fields where things have to be written manually are not
allowing me to type anything in it. The cursor control is going to those fields
but when I try to type anything , I am unable to do so. However, when I click
on the expand box of these fields, I am able to type in the information
required. This is happening only on web and not on native client. It's
happening on fields like Summary, Description, Requester Login etc.

I have tried to re-import the def again and evn on doing so this remains as it
is.

Is this something related to def import? Or is this related to the patch
installed for mid-tier etc.? Can anyone suggest a way out of this?

Thanks.

Warm Regards,
Nisha Ramtri

Re: Oracle library/version issue at BMC Remedy ARS installation

2006-04-26 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Marco,

Read the install instructions. You will find, very clearly
documented, that Remedy v6.3 (the latest version) requires the Oracle
9i R2 client when your using Oracle as its RDBMS.

Ref: Installing-630.pdf Page 118, comment column for the row starting
with Oracle client.

There is no patch needed for this condition. It is by design. Remedy
will advance to the Next Oracle client at some later ARS version. ( I
am guessing ARS v7, but it could be later than that too. )

Re: Remedy vs. HP OpenView - home grown applications ?

2006-04-26 Thread Kern, Robert SBA
Thank you a lot for the useful information Mike ! ...this is very useful for
the integration topic.

As for the original question, I am sorry I have not stating is very precise.

What I need to know basically is, how the ability to build your own
applications can be compared between both tools / toolsets.

Basically like can you build homegrown applications, which are not related to
ITIL topics, with HP as good as you can with Remedy ?

Thanks again,
Robert

Robert,

I'm not certain that I fully understand your question. I believe
you're asking if you can customize the Remedy-side of the HPOV
bidirectional gateway after implementation. If so, then yes, you can.

The gateway is a client installed on the HPOV server and a form and
some workflow on the Remedy server. The client (HPOV) has a configuration
file which points to a form/schema on the Remedy server and lists
specific fields to be passed from HPOV's alerts.status table to the
specified Remedy form, and whether they're to be updated only when
initially created or on behalf of each update. (It specifies some other
stuff as well, such as Remedy login name and password).

The gateway logs-in to the notifier server looking for
specially-constructed notifications directed to it's userid. This is how
it's fed from Remedy. Filters on the Remedy side manage the
notifications, determining conditions and fields to be included. Given
this, you can pretty much do whatever else you want with the form.
Locally, we don't use their OOTB form name and fields. We built our own.
Works fine.

Hello list,

some question that showed up during tool consolidation consideration.
Perhaps any listener has some insights at HP OV and is able to comment on
that one..

Basically we have hown grown applications at Remedy (mainly for Incident
and other stuff, not related to Service Desk topics) and want to compare
that with the HP OV ServiceDesk suite ( Change, Incident, ... ).

The main question at the moment is :
- am I able to build hown grown applications with HP OV ( ServiceDesk?) ? (
aka is HP OV (SD?) some kind of workflow engine system, that can be

2006-04-26 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
Hi Marco,

Although it's not on the compatibility matrix, it is possible to use 10G with
Remedy. There was a previous thread on the list titled Oracle 10gR2 in use?
which addresses a workaround to allow this.

Basically you need to do the following:
Obtain a copy of the 9I R2 client.
(available from
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/index.html)
  Install the 9I client.
  Install the 10G database.
  Install Remedy.

Remedy should be able to use libclntsh.so.9.0 from the 9I client directory, and
use 10G for the actual database.

I've only tried this on Windows, so can't say for certain that it will work in
the same way under Solaris, but it could be worth a try.

Marco,

Read the install instructions. You will find, very clearly
documented, that Remedy v6.3 (the latest version) requires the Oracle
9i R2 client when your using Oracle as its RDBMS.

Ref: Installing-630.pdf Page 118, comment column for the row starting

There is no patch needed for this condition. It is by design. Remedy
will advance to the Next Oracle client at some later ARS version. ( I
am guessing ARS v7, but it could be later than that too. )

It is on the compatability matrix (line 47). Yes it works on Solaris
(as that is what we are running it on).

Set your environment to have ORACLE_HOME point to the 9i client and tell
the Remedy install you are using a database on a different server. The
install will then ask for the TWO_TASK (entry in the TNSNAMES.ORA file)
and SID (Service Name) values.

It Must be unicode for oracle even if the server is not on that system.

Then are all the oracle installs for 6.3 on MS now that way ?

And Which Unicode do you use 8 / 16 or 32 ? Or is there a Specific one

So What do you have to do with MS SQL SERVER 2005 ? Is it UniCode ?

Gotcha. I'm not personally familiar with HPOV Service Desk, so I can't
give you a comparative analysis. Like any other out of the box product,
you'd need to understand all it's objects and Remedy's
capabilities/functionalities very well before trying to customize.

Our gateway is fully customized and has survived an upgrade, done only on
the Unix (HPOV) side). All you really want are the binaries and libraries,
though. If you also upgrade config files, you'll overlay your
customization, which may not be desirable. The point is that we knew both
sides well enough to manage change. I imagine you'd need similar knowledge
before customizing HPOV Service Desk - or even trying to decide between it
and a competing product based on change complexity/risk.

Works fine.

Problems with ARS 6.3 and DB2

2006-04-26 Thread Jose Manuel Viejo Lobato
Hi all;

I'm having problems installing my dev environment.
Windows 2003
DB2 UDB 8.1 Fix Pack 6
ARS 6.3 Patch 16

Now I have a production box running, and I want to create the new developement
boxes. I made a new install that runs fine, and after this the database created
was restored with the database in the prod. box. This is the procedure I use
since a lot of years to create the development and pre-production environments.

My problem is:

When I start the Remedy service, it starts, but there are a lot of errors in the
error log related to 556 - Missing data in the SQL database, 303 - Form does
not exist on server and 399 - Error in definition for an active link.

I can log in with the Remedy Administrator, and I see that there are less forms,
active links, filters... than in my production server.

I tried to make an export of the estrucure, but I get an error 8811 No name was
specified for the owning object.

When I open some active links or filters, there is no form related, execution
event, nor field related.

I can see the database and there are all the records in it (there are all the
records in the arschema table, in the actlink, ... the database is complete.),
so in any way Remedy is having problems understanding some data of the
database.

Anyone see this before??? I'm lost and I need to make this installation as soon
as possible... I need some ideas, please.

Many Thanks in Advance;

Hi Jose Antonio,

I used somethig to resolve this, and this is to block the access to the double
click in the attachent pool, and create a button.
When you press the button, an active link fires an action than saves the attach
to the temp file with the name you specified (something like file_$TIMESTAMP$).
After this, you can open this attachment with another active link. I this the
action is a runprocess - save-attachment or something like this. please, se the
manual for the exact command.

This way you have the control of the files you open in all moment and you have
no problems with the temp name in windows.

I have a form with an attachment pool. Every entry of the form contains an
attached file and all attachments have the same name.
When I open the attachment in the first entry I can see the file correctly
but when I do that with the second one,
I see the same file that in the first one.

The Windows temp folder contains the copy of the opened file for first

associated file included with the second entry, previous file has not been
renamed and new file has not been created.

Just a thought because I ran into something similar. Check to see if
you have server-side logging enabled. If you do, check on the sizes of
those log files.

I ran into a problem where the log files would get to be 2GB in size
(which is the max allowable by ARS). When I restarted the server, it
would "eat" RAM until it used it all up and then the process would
die. Thanks to armonitor, the cycle would repeat.

The solution for me was to remove the server side log files (or edit
the ar.conf/cfg file to disable logging) and then restart the server.

Hope this helps.

Re: Migration over User and Group Form

2006-04-26 Thread Kathy Morris
**

Hi,

Yes, I used Migrator.

When I tried to reconcile the users on Dev, it says I have no write
license.
I did a search to find any users in the User form on Dev with "write"
licenses, however the message says "no matching requests." On an
unqualified open search, it says "no matching requests."

I tried to issue a new user, and it says you have no write licenses
available.

Hi dear listers!!
How can I validate that a user types a correct Word in a character field??, for
example, not accept only one punctuation character (comma, point, etc), or only
one letter, or not valid word (, for example)
Any idea?
Thanks in advance

If you have more fixed licenses installed on your production system than dev it will not import all of the records. You can have all of your fixed licenses on your dev system.

Likewise, you probably don't have all your floating licenses if any on your dev system.

Are you logging in Demo equivalent (whatever you named the super user login)? You may have to recreate the superuser. I don't remember the exact syntax off hand will have to look it up if that's the case.

2006-04-26 Thread Carey Matthew Black
P,

Just a guess... but it looks like the web service client can not
resolve a host name in the WSDL that you feed the Filter Set field
action.

I would suggest that you login to your ARS server (at the command
line) and try to
ping ncsusratpzps1

That looks like all the WSDL has for the web server that it is trying
to talk to.

You might have:

1) DNS issues resolving the hostname for the source web server
2) network path issues from your ARS server to the source web server.
3) Web proxy settings that your lacking in your ARS server config

You might even have your network guys sniff the wire and try to find
exactly what is or is not leaving the ARS server too.

HTH.

If you are running a VM, then you want as much L2 cache (typically 2MB)
and physical memory (RAM) as possible. If you are brave try it on one
of the new Duo core machines. My toshiba M400 will address 4GB of RAM
and has two intel procs running at 2.16 GHz with a 667MHz FSB. Its fun
to ask the computer sales folks if they can scrounge up a couple of 2GB
DDR2 sticks and watch their heads spin like the display on my tablet PC!

SLA 5.5 issues

2006-04-26 Thread Bob
Running SLA 5.5 patched to 1457 both on dev and prod. Both dev and prod
are running ARS 5.01.02 patch 1428.

On dev everything runs fine.
On prod I am getting multiple SLA:Measurement entries, some marked for
delete but not deleted. Also several Business Time calculation errors due
to parameter fields being left blank (ChildDnTotalElapsedTime and
zTmpInStartTime). Deletion affects whenever an SLA:Measurement is
affected, (i.e. after coming of an exclude event like Status = Pending, or
changing SLAs within a group due to priority changes).

Anyone encounter this before. Knowledgebase suggest looking for old SLA
filters, but I have checked and rechecked and I am convinced there are
none. Perhaps there is some data in the SLA forms that I should check?
