Subject: ITSM 7.5.1 Install Issue

** Hello,
We are installing ITSM Version 7.5.1 - We have successfully installed the AR
Server and components Version 7.5 and the CMDB 7.5 and then the Patch 1. We
started the ITSM 7.5.1 install, but ran into errors -
At first it said "
BMC Remedy Action Request System is not detected
Approval Engine... is not the correct version...
Assignment Engine is not correct version
etc, etc"

We manually updated the SHARE:Application"Properties file - to say Version =
7.5.0 patch 001... for each of these components.
But then when we bring up the ITSM 7.5.1 installer again - we get the one
remaining error : "BMC Remedy Action Request System is not detected."

Question I have - Does the AR Server have an entry in this form ? I do not see
any entry for that now and thought the AR Server itself did not need an entry
there.
Has anyone run into this issue ? Any ideas how to resolve this ?

We are on Oracle 10g & Solaris 10.

thanks,
CT

Hello Oracle4Me..

If you mean on the immediate selection of multiple records for the ARS to know
that multiple records have been selected, no ARS has no way of knowing that.
You have to create another action like a button which needs to be presssed to
process the multiple records that have been selected.

The most you could do use use interval which may be a bad idea cause if the
user changes the selection while the system is processing stuff, you might get
unexpected results..

I know if the user selects 1 record, and then presses a button workflow will

Yes Multiple selection of tables is allowed (This is controlled by the Field
Properties -> Advanced Display -> Single Selection Allowed and User Selection
Allowed checkboxes). You can then trigger the action with a button on the form
or the Return Table or Level Double Click action. You will have to write your
own workflow to collect the list of selected rows (I have done this with a
Guide that does a Table Loop on Selected Rows Only)

Re: Moving databases and switching server names within

Thorin,

If you are talking about server names in the definitions, there is a easier way
out..

Take an XML definition file and look for the tag

This tag will have the offending value so you can do a simple search and
replace for what you want to do.

And then reimport the def file..

Subject: Moving databases and switching server names within

**
Good afternoon:
I need to copy a fully loaded Remedy 7.5 server and its database to
another machine.  Copying and updating the Linux files is easy.  I just copy
then hunt and replace every instance of the old server's name with the new
server name.
I thought the Oracle 10g database would be just as easy.  (All
tablespaces keep the their same name so it is ARSystem everywhere.  I will be
changing the database server's name.)  Last time I brought up Remedy then went
to the Admin Console and updated the e-mail engine.
I am hesitant to do this because this did not catch all of the instances of the
old name.  Our 7.1 servers were a mess.  We first built the production server
with the development database.  Then I cloned this to create the development
server attached to the production database.  Then we fixed it so production
server with production database and development server with development
database.
We started over for our 7.5 installs.  I just finished doing the 7.5 production
server with its 7.5 production database.  The older 7.1 development server is
still running.  Because of a bug, you must use the default password for ARAdmin
when doing a 7.5 ARS install.  We quickly ran into Oracle lockouts.  Changing
the ARAdmin password to the same value as the development server was using
fixed the problem.  So somehow I missed at least one reference to the
production database in the database.  (Fortunately for me, the server name
change is a one letter change: 'p' for production becomes 't' for test'.  The
names are the same length.)
Does anyone have a list of where to look so I am sure I get all of the
instances found in the Oracle database?
Thank you,
Thorin

Re: ARS 7.5 Install Issue

2009-05-26 Thread Joe DeSouza
What is the DB compatibility level of the ARSystem database that you want to
upgrade? If below 80 I think it will be incompatible and may be the cause of
those SQL errors?

If below 80 I would suggest that you upgrade that to 80 or above using the
stored proceedure sp_dbcmptlevel.

Assuming ARSystem is the name of your database, on your SQL prompt type

sp_dbcmptlevel 'ARSystem'

This will return a result such as:

The current compatibility level is 80.

The following are values for compatibility level for different versions of SQL..

80 = SQL Server 2000
90 = SQL Server 2005
100 = SQL Server 2008

That being said you can run a lower version ie lets say 70 on SQL server 2000
by manipulating this using sp_dbcmptlevel..

If the level returned is below 80, you might have a problem. You will need to
upgrade it using this same stored proceedure..

sp_dbcmptlevel ARSystem, 90 (to set it to 2005)
OR
sp_dbcmptlevel ARSystem, 100 (to set it to 2008 if thats your version of the
SQL Server)

You may need to run RECONFIGURE after running the above command and then
possibly restart the SQL server..

Hope this helps..

Cheers

Joe

5) For a complete install of 7.5 without 7.1 - you will have to uninstall 7.1

6) Our Silent Install script no longer worked because 7.5 uses a different
installer with different prompts...

Re: ARS 7.5 Install Issue

2009-05-26 Thread Joe DeSouza
That you end up with two sets of clients (different versions) is a feature and
not a bug. You can have 7.1 clients and 7.5 on the same machine and run them
concurrently against an appropriate server.

That being said, I had a brief look at this thread and while I do agree there
are 'some' installation issues with the 7.5 installer, it is still however
possible to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5 if you are able to tweak your system in
accordance to what the installer might be expecting.

Here is one tip on what I felt was necessary to do when I noticed the
installer started borgging up in my case where the host name was not the same
as the AR Server name on 7.1. The installer would not be able to connect to the
AR Server after providing it with the connection credentials and selecting the
alias name from the list of the AR Server List.

In the older system you could pretty much call your local AR Server
(AR_SERVER_ID) practically anything you wanted, but 7.5 expects it to be the
local host name. So if you are upgrading from an older system whose host name
was different from the AR Server Name, then the install script fails to resolve
the AR Server. Recently when I raised a ticket to Remedy Support, they
identified this as a software defect.

To overcome this on UNIX, I had to create a symbolic link in the /etc/arsystem
directory after the host name of the server, pointing to the
/etc/arsystem/.

Having done this I was able to trick the installer to believe the AR Server
name is the host name of the machine.

However after the install this means that the arsystem startup script will have
the AR_SERVER_ID to the host name. Also the new armonitor.conf file and the
modified ar.conf file will have the host name for the AR Server Name.

These files will need to be modified again if you need to maintain the name of
the server as the old alias.

I'm hoping they resolve this connection issue in the next release..

Joe

No Howard, you are able to run the upgrade or even install as part of a
server group its just that once its installed you can't go back and
re-install components like email engine, approval server etc...

Sorry I was not clearer before, but the issue is that if you run the
install for example selecting the Minimal install option and then go
back and try to re-install selection the custom option so that you can
install the email engine, flashboards etc it will remember the first
install AWAYS and will NOT alow you to select the options unless you
physically uninstall everything and clean it out. Then and only then can
you make selection changes.

That is what I experienced on my dev box.

Good to hear that you solved your problem.
You have written - "The worst part about it is the new suite install
that only allow you to install it once."
As far as I know 7.5 installer still supports upgrade installation and
you can run the installer multiple times to either upgrade or over-write
the existing installation.
Can you please elaborate on your statement that you can install ony
once?
Thanks

Re: Fw: transaction for parent/child changes

2009-05-26 Thread Elry
I agree...

We have had the same difficulty.

In our situation we had a CMDB for which we needed rollback capability
for updating CI/Child records.

For each table field we built a transaction storage form that stored
all the Child Record transactions until the

Parent record was committed. Once the Parent Record was committed -
the child updates were then

sent to their respective tables and the temporary record(s) deleted.

Probably another way to do it under the 7.x paradigm - would be to
take advantage of the "Audit" feature for

rollback (depending on the amount of fields involved).

As for when multiple people are editing a single Parent record - I
thought there was a Remedy error trapping

mechanism that let you know when you tried to commit that there were
new changes to the record that you

were editing - then it asks you if you want to save anyway???

Re: Fw: transaction for parent/child changes

2009-05-26 Thread Robert Halstead
As I understand it, Remedy doesn't provide a check on who is looking/editing
a record. The only check Remedy does is a last modified time check. We are
running into this same issue when multiple people edit the same record. We
plan to implement a read/read-write locking feature in our own system though
I wish remedy had the ability to lock records down.

Re: ARS 7.5 Install Issue

2009-05-26 Thread Elry
Hi Guys...

We did an upgrade recently in our development and staging environment
much like what started this "thread".

We found that:

1) 7.5 had installations issues - that were dealt with by using patch
1.
2) Even when using patch 1 - we found that we had to do a clean
uninstall before trying again...
3) When you go to install the Clients - 7.5 has a completely different
file structure than 7.1
4) If you install the Clients based on the install defaults - you will
"wind up" with 7.1 & 7.5 on your system.
5) For a complete install of 7.5 without 7.1 - you will have to
uninstall 7.1 before installing 7.5..
6) Our Silent Install script no longer worked because 7.5 uses a
different installer with different prompts...

I am sure there are folks out there with similar insights

Re: Changing case of Login Id

2009-05-26 Thread Joel Sender
Keith,
No offense to Misi's EXCELLENT products, but there might be a more logical
approach to your problem.
Once you've corrected the existing data (escalation or RRR|LoginConv-tool),
create a new/modify filter on the user form to set the LoginID to LOWER.
Only the 'modified' user will need the re-cached and the data is kept clean,
as opposed to getting some records 'dirty' and 'cleaning' them all.

Hi,

It is a bad idea to modify User-records each night. This will require that
all cached form definitions has to be recached for the modified users...

Our RRR|LoginConv-tool can modify a list of Login Names in all forms or in
the forms of your choise. It works on both custom applications and OOB
applications.

Hi Rafeal,
Good to hear that you solved your problem.
You have written - "The worst part about it is the new suite
install that only allow you to install it once."
As far as I know 7.5 installer still supports upgrade
installation and you can run the installer multiple times to
either upgrade or over-write the existing installation.
Can you please elaborate on your statement that you can install
ony once?
Thanks
Ashwin

Hi Frex

This is not a corruption of the log files – this is content from your log
files. This is saying that your production remedy server logged SQL errors
– you need to look at the content of these log lines to see what the
offending errors were and what your server was trying to do.

I checked the file and all I can see are selects, updates and inserts and OK
and commit transaction statements. I greped for ERROR, ARERROR, FAIL, WARN and
can't see any of these in my log file. Anything else to look for?

Thanks
frex

Hi Frex

This is not a corruption of the log files – this is content from your log
files.  This is saying that your production remedy server logged SQL errors –
you need to look at the content of these log lines to see what the offending
errors were and what your server was trying to do.

Hello all,

Has anyone using arwklga.exe, came across this error while analysing log files.

I have tested logs generated by dev server and all seem to work fine, I get a
decent report with all the stats. I try to do the same with log files from
production and get the following errors! Was thinking the log file got
corrupted while copying it across but this wasn't the case. Any ideas as what
it could be?

Kind Regards

Dear all,

I have some performance issues with our Remedy server (ARS 7.1) and as a
starting point I have enabled the SQL/API logs. I need to analyse these, but
doing it manually is quite time consuming. so... does anyone have a link to the
arwklga.exe utility for download. I checked the Dev Community but could not
find it.

Many thanks in advance
