Re: The values for this entry violate a unique index that has been defined for this form. : NTE:SYS-Group NT Control entry

2009-06-09 Thread Frex Popo
Hello Kevin,

Does NTE:SYS-NT Process Control have any old entries? I am tempted to remove
them,  they could have been left because of some filter failing to delete them!

Thanks for your feedback.

I am currently getting these same errors frequently.  I have opened a ticket

Dear all,

ARS. 7.1 patch 4 / OS. NT2003 SRV Edition / DB. MS SQL SRV 2005

It states in the performance and optimisation manual, only one node in a server
group should be used as the server for admin changes (i.e forms, workflow
etc..) but both should be accessed when making other changes (i.e adding
threads to a particular queue).

I added two threads to the list queue through the admin tool to node1 and node2
in a server group. I did a restart and got the following errors on both.

390603 : Entry does not exist in database. (ARERR 302)

390603 : The values for this entry violate a unique index that has been defined
for this form. : NTE:SYS-Group NT Control entry:NTG00156348

I enabled the SQL/Filter/API logs and noticed few errors relating to escalation
SYS:NPC:IM1-TriggerGroupNTG (attached to form NTE:SYS-NT Process Control) which
runs every 1 minute. The escalation updates field z1D Action with the value
START GROUP NOTIFICATION. It fails with the first error:

390603 : Entry does not exist in database. (ARERR 302)

This action in turn causes a filter NTE:NPC:CreateGroupNTG_050_PNTG to do an
insert to form NTE:SYS-Group NT Control which fails with the second error:

390603 : The values for this entry violate a unique index that has been defined
for this form. : NTE:SYS-Group NT Control entry:NTG00156348

When removing the two threads I have added and doing a restart I get no errors.

I also noticed that form NTE:SYS-NT Process Control still has some old entries
with submit dates as far back as 2007, some 22 of them in total.

Forgot to enable the server group logging :-( so will have to do this when I
plan another test. Does this log show any errors in your case?

Hi Frank

I think this is a known issue - and I'll bet you have the Details view switched
on in the Admin tool

Switch off details view and try to save an active link/filter/form etc.

No worries Frank - I think its fixed in a user tool patch later in the

It's a little bit of a pain to switch off the details view - but
typically I'd use ARUtilities to determine the details etc, and leave

Hello Kevin,

Does NTE:SYS-NT Process Control have any old entries? I am tempted to remove
them, they could have been left because of some filter failing to delete them!

Thanks for your feedback.

Dear all,

Regards
frex

Hi,

Turn on API/FLTR/SQL/ESCL logging into the same file.

The log should tell you exactly what happens and which SQL/FLTR is
responsible.

It's a little bit of a pain to switch off the details view - but typically I'd
use ARUtilities to determine the details etc, and leave the admin tool switched
off for speed :-)

But that did fix the problem. Without details active links save much faster.

Re: Re : AW: RESOVLED Re: Long Time Saving Active Link

2009-06-09 Thread Joe DeSouza
Another tip for the save to happen almost instantaneously is that before saving
your Active link or Active links or any other workflow such as filters etc, is
that you click on the Server Name on the server window, so as to not display
the list of the Active Links or the Filters or whatever it is that you are
saving.

The Admin tool is designed to perform a search after every save if you have the
list showing. This search does not happen if you either close the Server window
or click on its name so that the list does not show.. Then it doesn't really
matter if you have details enabled or not..

Functionality found in RDP and MasterARSuite is being folded into Dev Studio in

Dev Studio in AR System 7.5.00 provides functionality around Analysis, Search

Has anyone heard about any BMC product that will replace Remedy Developer Plus
for 7.5 or beyond? We acquired this product as a result of BMC buying IT
Masters and discarding the excellent MasterARSuite application, whereupon BMC
transferred our license to RDP. We barely used it since it was a poster child
for a bloated, crash-prone java app, and it had only a shadow of the capability
that MasterARSuite had contained. It is no surprise to me that the
MasterARSuite is now being reincarnated as AR Smarts.

My interest in whether or not RDP will have a follow-on product for license
holders stems from the price for renewing support on something that I have not
used at all in almost two years, which barely supported ARS 7.1 (especially
with ITSM 7 installed) and does not support 7.5. There is no point in doing so
unless a _useful_ follow-on product is in the pipeline. After the latest
fiasco where BMC replaced Topology Discovery and Foundation Discovery with
Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping but decided to consider it a
different product and charge people to transfer their licenses to it, my
trust level towards BMC is at a 12 year low. They even sold us TD/FD 1.6 three
weeks AFTER ADDM 7.5 had been released, with no indication that we were buying
an obsolete product (and one that does not support 7.5 - you need ADDM for
that) and that would not have a direct upgrade path to the replacement product
(which ADDM is; just read the Release Notes).

I asked our Maintenance Renewal Rep about RDP when we got the quote for
renewal, but so far do not have any answer so I am holding up the entire
process (plus there was maintenance for TD/FD 1.6 to question since that does
not give us access to the follow-on ADDM product). Our sales rep is trying to
clean up the TD/FD/ADDM mess, although it will cost us more money, but I think
he was blind-sided on this the same as we were. If any of you know anything
about RDP, I'd like to hear about it.

Has anyone heard about any BMC product that will replace Remedy Developer
Plus for 7.5 or beyond? We “acquired” this product as a result of BMC
buying IT Masters and discarding the excellent MasterARSuite application,
whereupon BMC transferred our license to RDP. We barely used it since it
was a poster child for a bloated, crash-prone java app, and it had only a
shadow of the capability that MasterARSuite had contained. It is no
surprise to me that the MasterARSuite is now being reincarnated as AR
 Smarts.

My interest in whether or not RDP will have a follow-on product for license
holders stems from the price for renewing support on something that I have
not used at all in almost two years, which barely supported ARS 7.1
(especially with ITSM 7 installed) and does not support 7.5. There is no
point in doing so unless a _*useful*_ follow-on product is in the
pipeline. *After the latest fiasco where BMC replaced Topology Discovery
and Foundation Discovery with Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping but
decided to consider it a “different” product and charge people to transfer
their licenses to it, my trust level towards BMC is at a 12 year low. They
even sold us TD/FD 1.6 three weeks AFTER ADDM 7.5 had been released, with no
indication that we were buying an obsolete product (and one that does not
support 7.5 – you need ADDM for that) and that would not have a direct
upgrade path to the replacement product (which ADDM is; just read the
 Release Notes).*

*I asked our Maintenance Renewal Rep about RDP when we got the quote for

Does CMDB 7.5.00 support Tomcat 5.5 ?

2009-06-09 Thread Guillaume Rheault
David,

the BMC Atrium Core 7.5.00 Compatibility Matrix states that the minimum version

If you install Tomcat 6 before installing AR System, then you can choose not to
install anything as part of the AR System installation. That way, you'll only
have Tomcat 6 on the system from the beginning. Both Atrium Core (CMDB) and AR
System 7.5.00 support Tomcat 6.

It was done this way because AR System 7.5.00 still supports Tomcat 5.5 - so
the earliest supported version of Tomcat was included as the JSP engine for IIS
users. Atrium Core 7.5.00 has a minimum version of Tomcat 6 and does not
support Tomcat 5.5.

Note that AR System does not require Tomcat specifically as a JSP engine. You
may choose to use another supported JSP engine (e.g. ServletExec) if you wish.
Or, if using a web or application server other than IIS, you may use the JSP
engine that comes with the web/app server (e.g. JBoss, WebLogic, WebSphere,
etc.) as long as they're listed in the Compatibility Matrix. Tomcat was
included purely as a convenience to IIS users - who otherwise would have to go
find a JSP engine - and is not intended to convey a preference or requirement
for AR System.

I need to add maintenance schedules to CI's, and have them automatically
create change requests (via change templates) based on the schedule
type/frequency.
BMC said this functionality is not currently available - ITSM Patch 8 due in
Feb 2010 will incorporate this features.

Has anyone gotten Change Requests automatically genereated via Maintenance
Schedules attached to CI's?

7.5 patch 1 user tool causes Windows 2008 64 bit computer to hang

2009-06-09 Thread Jason Miller
Had anybody had any issues with the 7.5 User Tool hanging up a 2008 x64
computer? This happens on both our production server and my workstation.
If we use WUT 7.1 it does not happen.

It usually happens when trying to click on a field. The last time it
happened the Windows Commit Charge went from 2.5 to 3.6 instantly once the
machine hung. After about 5 minutes and remotely trying to taskkill
aruser.exe from another computer aruser.exe dies and Commit Charge goes back
to 2.4. I have had instances where the WUT will keep working if I do not
remotely kill it and let it sit for some time. It will usually hang again
fairly quick.

ARS 7.5 Patch 1 on AIX 5.x on a remote Oracle 10g

2009-06-09 Thread Joe DeSouza
I am having a strange problem on our development server. The
installation completes successfully and starts the ARS Server and everything
seems good. Until I stop the service and restart it. Then I get memory
allocation errors.

We are beginning to suspect a problem with the start-up script itself as we
have already checked out other potential OS related configuration areas such as
ulimits etc. Besides the installer if we try reinstalling with the upgrade
option or share option has no problems starting the Server. So the start-up
script used by the installer has no problems starting it. It is the script that
gets coded in the bin directory that looks like it has a fault somewhere.

Does anyone have ARS 7.5 patch 1 running successfully on AIX 5.x using Oracle
10g as the back-end remote database? More importantly, does your system
restart with no problems after you issue a arsystem stop by a arsystem start???

If you have the same problem as I, and have a ticket open with BMC, please let
me know. We might be able to compare facts/notes etc.

If you have no problems restarting your AR Server 7.5 Patch 1 using the
arsystem start-up script, I would like a copy of your arsystem start-up script
to compare with mine.

Joe

I have created an HTML Email Template with a Modify action. I've
observed some odd behavior which I wanted to see if anyone else has
experienced this and what they have done to work around it. My issue is
that when the email is received via my Outlook 2003 client the html
content of the email displays correctly, but the minute I click reply
the html content disappears. So I cannot really modify any of the html
fields (VERY ANNOYING). I have noticed that in my outlook client options
I have Use MS Word 2003 to edit email messages selected. If I unselect
this I am now able to see the html content but any hidden fields I had
coded are also visible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looking for best way to upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.1.0

2009-06-09 Thread Tim Rondeau
Hi,

Attempting to upgrade from 7.0.1 patch 2 to 7.1 patch 7

Basically we have:

Arserver - 7.0.1 patch 2 upgrade to 7.1 patch 7
Approver - 7.0.1upgrade to 7.1 patch 7
Change - 7.0.2 upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7
Incident - 7.0.2upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7
Problem - 7.0.2upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7

So I did upgrade/patch Arserver/Approval/assignment/Change/Incident/Problem and
my forms got overwritten and workflow I have shut off is back on. So do I
need to reimport my forms and workflow?

This is all on Windows 2003 running SQL 2005.

Looking for others that have upgraded ITSM module and what they have done.

Thanks

Tim

If you have customized and forms or work flow from the OOB applications it is
my understanding that you need to re-import your forms, work flow and data. I
do not use OOB applications but I have seen enough postings.

Tim,

The issue will be the plugins. There were some major changes between patch 2
and patch 3 (or 4).

From the app side, the data should be ok, however, off the top of my head I
can not think of anything.

Good luck,

Howard

Re: Looking for best way to upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.1.0

2009-06-09 Thread Lyle Taylor
Actually, starting with patch 003 or 004 (I think the latter), BMC changed its
strategy for updating patched forms in ITSM. The new patches replace the
existing form with their patched version rather than just updating the existing
form. This means that any additional fields that you have added will be
deleted from the form, and any data in those fields will be lost. If you've
added any custom fields, you will first need to export your data and
customizations, then apply the patch, reapply your customizations and reimport
the values for your custom fields.

As a matter of course, all customized (e.g., disabled OOB workflow) must be
verified after any patch activity to verify that it has not been changed by the
patch. That is true of any patch, not just the ITSM patches (although, you can
often narrow down what workflow to verify by the subsystem or application it
belongs to and what's being patched).

Hi Everybody!

This issue happens to us in the same.

But in our case,

When we save a workflow object , Server is hanged So any user cannot connect
to the server.

Our AR server/Admin tool Version is 7.1 patch 007 and CMDB is 2.1 Patch 005

Is anyone having this case ?

Is it happened after CMDB install?

Another tip for the save to happen almost instantaneously is that before saving
your Active link or Active links or any other workflow such as filters etc, is
that you click on the Server Name on the server window, so as to not display
the list of the Active Links or the Filters or whatever it is that you are
saving.

The Admin tool is designed to perform a search after every save if you have the
list showing. This search does not happen if you either close the Server window
or click on its name so that the list does not show.. Then it doesn't really
matter if you have details enabled or not..

Thanks Conny, like when you say but only for active links :-)

I applied the patch and did some tested with active links but not sure if I
have noticed too much difference, but perhaps I have a server running on a
VMWARE and things will be slow anyway :)

No worries Frank - I think its fixed in a user tool patch later in the
7.1 series - but I cannot remember which patch

It's a little bit of a pain to switch off the details view - but typically I'd
use ARUtilities to determine the details etc, and leave the admin tool switched
off for speed :-)
