Hi Jason,

instead of phsyical, and is not belong to any domain yet. It is running
under a workgroup.
Which I was using is local administrator through the remote desktop
section.

** Sounds pretty much like what we did.? I don't remember having to run the
installer in compatibility mode but it may be worth a try.

Are you logged into the server as a local admin?? Now that I think about it
I was logged in as a domain admin.? A local admin should be sufficient but
maybe using a domain admin has given me a little extra something that has
helped to avoid this issue (which seems to fairly common).

Do you have DEP turned off?? I wouldn't think that is the issue but maybe
some part of the installer is trying to execute from a data area of memory.

The only other thing I can think of would be does one of the directories
involved have the Read Only flag set (assuming sufficient permissions)?

  Hi Jason,

I think I do it ?similiar, that is I extract the installation files to
C:/temp directory, and then install it from there.
I have the C: drive with over 30G space avail, and also D: drive with
  100G
  avail.
I try to specify the install directory to both drive, but with no luck on
success. Always get a error message on "Having 0MB space available for
  installation".

Just to clarify... when you say you use the local disk, does that mean
  you

  We have a full ARS 7.5 / ITSM 7.6 install on 64bit 2008 R2.? The install

which to use a filter guide to walk through the table and select a manager.
But then the question is making sure that the selection of a manager is

One possibility might be to look at all the Assignee Manager login IDs on
t=
he tickets you have randomly selected and then randomly select one of the
o=
ther managers from that list. So, for example, you select X number of
rand=
om tickets, and among those tickets, there are Y number of managers (where
=
Y is probably less than X, but must be greater than 1 to be valid). The
id=
ea would be, for any given ticket, find any other manager in your set of Y
=
managers that is not the manager of the assignee for that particular
ticket.

Does that make sense? The idea of using the set of assignee managers for
t=
he tickets you've picked is mainly to be an easy way to ensure that you're
=
picking a valid manager. However, there may be other ways to do it,
includ=
ing maintaining a list of managers that can be chosen from, or finding a
wa=
y to determine that list automatically via the People form, etc.

2010-01-26 Thread Brian Bishop
If you want to ensure no one manager is inundated, hold a count on the
manager record of how many times they have been used. This could then become
your selection criteria. The lowest count gets the next email. If you get
complaints from the managers about the load being shared equally, you can
show them the count details.

If I remember correctly, the SHR:People form in ITSM 6 has a Manager flag so
you don't need to do this in a separate form. You could just pick another
manager from this form. Add a field to it to hold a count and you should be
up and running.

Joseph,

You may want to look at it from a different angle
Instead of trying to randomize the manager,
Have selected managers receive a ( or multiple ) random tickets.
You can then control how many and how often each manager receives tickets.

Ours is also a VM. We have 7.5 running on both VMware ESX (2008 x64
pre R2) and MS Hyper-V (2008 x64 R2). Likewise it was all installed
using remote desktop. I can't imagine not being on a domain is
causing you these troubles (the domain admin idea was a long shot).

Re: Asset Management 7.1

2010-01-26 Thread Chowdhury, Tauf
Chad,

To your questions regarding requirements for configuration, I'll differ
to the BMC manuals on the topic.

At the CMDB level, there are a bunch of things to consider.

Do you have any discovery tools?

If so, are you planning on using them to populate the CMDB?

If not, how are you going to handle bulk loading Asset's/CI's?

Our implementation is ongoing and it broken up into phases. The first
phase is handling Client Assets (both discoverable and
non-discoverable), and Software License Management.

I will say that the Software License Management is a pain point and has
many caveats and without knowing your environment completely, I cannot
say which apply to you.

There are also many things to consider outside of the Asset Management
MODULE itself while still being required by the process such as
changes/additions to Incident/Change templates that may be needed.

The no suitable driver all comes down to you JDBC connection defined in
KMS_Config.xml you have to make sure you are referencing the driver correctly.
RKM 7.5 doesn't integrate out of the box with ARS 7.1 the workflows are

AREmail emails going to wrong users

2010-01-26 Thread Ravi

Remedy 7.1.1

Hi: not sure if anyone has seen this. I have a mailbox configured to use
a standard solaris sendmail to send emails. Occasionally users are
receiving the wrong emails. For example as per AR System Email Messages
form, email1 was sent out to user1, email2 was sent out to user2, email3
was sent out to user3. User3 somehow received email2. Not sure if user2
received email1. This seems to happen only for emails that have the same
Date Sent time in the AR System Email Messages form. Has anyone else
seen this? It's hard to do any troubleshooting in the sendmail logs
since it doesn't log anything other than the time and the destination
email address.

Thanks
Ravi

Re: AR 7.5 Installation Failed

2010-01-26 Thread HARJOT PABLA
Yes the installation is on Windows Server 2008 R2. Going in Depth, We figure
out that Java is not installing properly which will be used to install AR
7.5. We we went to Java website to test if java is running properly, it
gives us error. Seems like Server R2 2008 doesn't support java that well or
probably there are some settings we need to do.

Try to check if your java is running ok on the server where you trying to
install AR 7.5.

Thanks for your response

Re: AREmail emails going to wrong users

2010-01-26 Thread Shellman, David
Ravi,

There is a known bug in the email engine. SW00332327 Email Engine incorrectly
used the body text of the previous record when processing the current outgoing
message.

This bug only shows up when the system is sending a number of outbound emails.
We would see the bug in about 6 of 120 outbound emails. It would not always be
the same 6 but we were seeing roughly the same number each time.

This has been corrected in the latest 7.1 patch 008 and in 7.5 Patch 003.

Dave

Re: Asset Management 7.1

2010-01-26 Thread Roger Justice
More importantly there is no AM 7.1. You need to determine the
following:
1. What version of ARS are you using, if it is 7.1 then you will
install CMDB 2.1
2. Since the normal ITSM application install recommends that you
install CMDB prior to installing your first ITSM application if this
was not done you may not be able to install CMDB.
3. Determine which version of ITSM applications you are presently
using, check SHARE:Applicationproperties and then install the same
version of AM

does your system (os) actually have physical memory availible?
IF it does then change the setting below with the following flags. -Xmx256m
-Xms256m --> TO --> -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m
this will help, but you will also need to ensure you have a Free 1.5 to 2.0
Gig availible.

hope that helps..

IF you do not have the physical memory, you can make it lower.. like 512
512...

Tauf,

No Discovery Tools, they are thinking of exporting a flat file from another
source and then AIE to import this data. The software license management is
already done by a Microsoft Product. The big talk around here is that 7.0.03
provides limited functionality versus 7.5.00, which is directing a look into
ITSM 7.5. Have you heard of what the differences are?

Re: Asset Management 7.1

2010-01-26 Thread strauss
You want to be looking at AM 7.6, part of ITSM 7.6, running on ARS 7.5. The
7.5 version of ITSM had a "life span" of about 7 months before it was
superseded by 7.6.

If you try to add AM 7.0.03 to an existing ITSM 7.0.03 installation that has
been patched, there are issues with patch level in that you must reapply
patches 004 through 007 after installing AM, and they WILL overwrite any
customizations to apps like Service Desk. I think the ITSM 7.0.03 Patch 008
and 009 Release Notes spelled this out the best.

Chad,
To your questions regarding requirements for configuration, I'll differ to the
BMC manuals on the topic.
At the CMDB level, there are a bunch of things to consider.
Do you have any discovery tools?
If so, are you planning on using them to populate the CMDB?
If not, how are you going to handle bulk loading Asset's/CI's?
Our implementation is ongoing and it broken up into phases. The first phase is
handling Client Assets (both discoverable and non-discoverable), and Software
License Management.
I will say that the Software License Management is a pain point and has many
caveats and without knowing your environment completely, I cannot say which
apply to you.
There are also many things to consider outside of the Asset Management MODULE
itself while still being required by the process such as changes/additions to
Incident/Change templates that may be needed.

Hello Fellow Listers,

The organization here at Purdue University is looking at implementation of
Asset 7.1 into our current environment (AR 7.1 Patch 007 and ITSM 7.1). Has
anyone installed and configured Asset 7.1? What are the base requirements for
configuration? What has to be done at the CMDB level? What was the overall
experience? How long to implementation? Any additional information provided
would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried installing using the Patch 003 installer instead of the one you
get from the regular EPD site. I've had issues with earlier installers
reporting the same issue. Didn't have the issue with the patch 3 installers
that I've tried (note that I tried the client installers and not the AR server
installer, so it may or may not apply).

Hi Listeners,

I was trying to install ARS7.5 on Windows 2008R2 without success. It always
complain "There have 0MB space available for the installation". Even if I
use the local disk or additional disk.

Any hints? Initially, I though it is the AR issue on not support 2008R2.
However, after Strauss posts, seems it is related to others issue.

Thanks in advance.

version 5.5.28. For this version the parameter that you need to reset in the
tomcat startup file in the bin directory is CATALINA_OPT..

Open the startup file. Set the above parameter to " -Xmxm -Xmsm"

Calculate max memory to be less than 70% of the total available free memory
on your server before the start of tomcat.. The minimum initial memory can
safely be set at half the max memory calculated.

You might also want to set incremental garbage collection by -Xincgc. This
also would help in your performance and reduce out of memory errors by
removing from memory least used portions of java memory.

So lets say you calculate your max memory to be 2048 and minimum initial to
be 1024, you will have

CATALINA_OPT=" -Xmx2048m -Xms1024m -Xincgc"

Stop and start tomcat for these changes to take effect.

Hope this helps..

Re: How to increase java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

2010-01-26 Thread Joe D'Souza
After you install apache, it pre-configures it with only 256 MB initial and
max memory which is not enough for most standard web based applications
these days. So these have to be changed manually if your application will
consume more than that (and the Mid-Tier requires way more than that) with
even a basic setup.

The 30% headroom is what is recommended by Apache which is why its not a
good idea to use more than 70% of available free memory. This memory
consumption should ideally be monitored periodically especially if you
install other apps after installing the Mid-Tier on the server..

Sean,

From your installation path of tomcat I can see you are running tomcat
version 5.5.28. For this version the parameter that you need to reset in the
tomcat startup file in the bin directory is CATALINA_OPT..

Open the startup file. Set the above parameter to " -Xmxm -Xmsm"

Calculate max memory to be less than 70% of the total available free
memory on your server before the start of tomcat.. The minimum initial
memory can safely be set at half the max memory calculated.

You might also want to set incremental garbage collection by -Xincgc.
This also would help in your performance and reduce out of memory errors by
removing from memory least used portions of java memory.

So lets say you calculate your max memory to be 2048 and minimum initial
to be 1024, you will have

CATALINA_OPT=" -Xmx2048m -Xms1024m -Xincgc"

Stop and start tomcat for these changes to take effect.

Hope this helps..

I did hear what you suggest too, that keeping the initial and max memory the
same is a good idea, but I heard that in a very different context. The
performance context is new to me.

>From what I had heard, earlier builds of tomcat 5.5.x had a problem wherein
keeping these settings different would cause memory issues which would crash
the server (I think a memory leak caused that). But these issues I heard
have long been resolved. I used different settings on 5.5.25 and 5.5.26 with
no issues.

Re: Server Information

2010-01-26 Thread Joe D'Souza
This does impact performance and the ideal values for these will be very
specific to your environment and setup (number of concurrent users
performing these operations, size of the DB, etc.)

While 1000 max entries returned by Get list for one site may be too large
(very very heavily used systems), 1 for another (underused systems) may
be insignificant..

Initially go by your gut feel, and then measure statistics and benchmarks,
and derive your ideal numbers through statistics..

Re: Server Information

2010-01-26 Thread jham36
I don't have recommended numbers for these. I know there is a
performance tuning guide you could look at from the support site. It
might be a whitepaper. I suggest you download the documentation for
the products you are using. I am assuming you have a valid support
contract.

Max Entries Returned by GetList:
Limits how many database entries are returned from a search. For
example, setting the
maximum entries to 50 would return a maximum of 50 entries, even if
more entries
satisfied the search qualification. The AR System warns users that the
search matched
more entries than the administrator allows to be retrieved. If users
specify a maximum
in their preferences, the lesser of these two values is used. A value
of zero (0) specifies
no limit (the default).

Server Table Field Chunk Size:
For server-side table fields, this number determines the number of
entries (or size of
the chunk) that the server retrieves at one time from the database and
stores inmemory
to process during filter or filter guide actions. The server then
retrieves, stores,
and processes the next chunk until all the rows have been processed.
Entering a value
of zero (0) causes the server to retrieve an unlimited number of rows.
The default is
1000 rows.
Entering a low value in this field causes the server to process
smaller chunks, which
keeps the server memory usage down, but results in slower processing
because the
server needs to access the database many times, especially for large
tables. Entering a
high value causes the server to retrieve and process large chunks of
data and access the
database fewer times. This results in higher performance at the cost
of memory use.

AR Remedy Patch installation question

2010-01-26 Thread Ravi
I am planning to install Patch 8 for the AR email engine. Is it ok to
install this without installing Patch 8 for the AR server?

Also are there any instructions on how to install the email patch 8?
What do I do with email.solaris.tar.gz. All the document says is
"Uncompress email.aix.tar.gz, email.hpux.tar.gz, email.linux.tar.gz, and
email.solaris.tar.gz". Do I just untar this in my ar directory and start
the remedy server?

TIA

I am planning to install Patch 8 for the AR email engine. Is it ok to
install this without installing Patch 8 for the AR server?

Also are there any instructions on how to install the email patch 8? What do
I do with email.solaris.tar.gz. All the document says is "Uncompress
email.aix.tar.gz, email.hpux.tar.gz, email.linux.tar.gz, and
email.solaris.tar.gz". Do I just untar this in my ar directory and start the

Note that sometimes applications can have problems determining free space
when you use a non-preallocated virtual disk in VM.

If you are using such a disk, you might want to try the option to
"pre_allocate space" on your virtual disk.

Re: Server Information

2010-01-26 Thread Axton
There is no one size fits all or 'valid' default. If you have well written
application, unlimited is not a problem. If you have poorly written
applications, 1000 may be too high.

All of these configuration parameters have a direct impact on the perceived
usability of the system. If your system has conditioned people to do things
in an inefficient way, turning these knobs will help with performance, but
you're going to have an angry mob at your door.

Training

2010-01-26 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
I've been given the "OK" on training and am deciding which training classes to
take. We will, this year, upgrade from ARS7.1 to ARS 7.5, ITSM 7.5 and SRM.
SRM will be something completely new to my organization.
If you had to pick 3 training sessions to help you with the rollout and
continued maintenance.. which 3 would they be? I have taken ARS Admin 1,2,3.

Re: Training

2010-01-26 Thread Rick Cook
I would say SRM (btw, I would recommend 7.6 over 7.5), and the beginning and
advanced implementation classes for ITSM. If you haven't taken a CMDB
class, substitute that for the second ITSM class. If you have no experience
with ITSM 7+, you will be completely lost without some guidance. That one
should be #2 priority, preceded by CMDB (I think it's a pre-req).

Anyone ever add a custom app to the Overview Console?

2010-01-26 Thread Scott Philben
I have seen some posts on this area but thought I would revisit the topic.

ARS 7.5 patch 002
ITSM 7.5.02

When I started this project I thought what I wanted would be a simple addition
to something like the old SHR:ConsilidatedList. But it turns out that BMC have
made things more complicated than need be (again) and the idea that I could
easily add a custom app to the Overview Console is running into reality.

All I want to do is let my users see the open tickets they have in both ITSM
apps as well as a custom app in one place. So I started poking around in the
Overview Console and found the following:

The SHR:OverviewConsole form points to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole (a vendor
form) which in turn seems to use SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate which uses
SHR:ARDBCFields to map to your app.

Based on some stuff I found floating around the web, I added my Application
form and App name to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate. This accomplished, I
then mapped a few fields from my App to the fields on SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole
using entries in SHR:ARDBCFields. Thinking myself done, I restarted the plugin
server (these forms are hooked together via Vendor forms... whodathunkit?) and
then opened the Overview Console. I got SQL errors. Specifically:

ARERR [522] Error: ARGetListEntryWithFields - Failure during SQL operation to
the database.

So, obviously I am missing something. I opened a ticket with BMC to see if
there was a documented way to do this (there must be, right? They do it!) and
was told in so many words to pound sand. They don't do "customizations" help.

So for anyone else out there in a similar predicament, is there a way to do
this that you would be willing to share?

Thanks for your time.

Yes. AR System 7.5.00 supports both Unicode as well as some specific character

Yes the installation is on Windows Server 2008 R2. Going in Depth, We
figure out that Java is not installing properly which will be used to
install AR 7.5. We we went to Java website to test if java is running

that well or probably there are some settings we need to do.

Try to check if your java is running ok on the server where you trying to

Re: Anyone ever add a custom app to the Overview Console?

What you did is exactly the way to go. However you must make sure you map
the right fields. I had sort of achieved by trial and error..

I am not with that customer that I did this work for so unfortunately cannot
pinpoint and tell you what fields got to be mapped. But you should find a
trend by reporting the original set of fields that were mapped in the
ARDBCFields form.

I had got those same errors you had when I had the wrong fields mapped.

Subject: Anyone ever add a custom app to the Overview Console?

I have seen some posts on this area but thought I would revisit the topic.

ARS 7.5 patch 002
ITSM 7.5.02

When I started this project I thought what I wanted would be a simple
addition to something like the old SHR:ConsilidatedList. But it turns out
that BMC have made things more complicated than need be (again) and the idea
that I could easily add a custom app to the Overview Console is running into
reality.

All I want to do is let my users see the open tickets they have in both ITSM
apps as well as a custom app in one place. So I started poking around in the
Overview Console and found the following:

The SHR:OverviewConsole form points to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole (a vendor
form) which in turn seems to use SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate which
uses SHR:ARDBCFields to map to your app.

Based on some stuff I found floating around the web, I added my Application
form and App name to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate. This accomplished, I
then mapped a few fields from my App to the fields on
SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole using entries in SHR:ARDBCFields. Thinking myself
done, I restarted the plugin server (these forms are hooked together via
Vendor forms... whodathunkit?) and then opened the Overview Console. I got
SQL errors. Specifically:

ARERR [522] Error: ARGetListEntryWithFields - Failure during SQL operation
to the database.

So, obviously I am missing something. I opened a ticket with BMC to see if
there was a documented way to do this (there must be, right? They do it!)
and was told in so many words to pound sand. They don't do "customizations"
help.

So for anyone else out there in a similar predicament, is there a way to do
this that you would be willing to share?

Thanks for your time.

Try the last thing is that install mid-tier with the tomcat on separate box
& RKM with the tomcat on the separate box.
