Re: Plugin server keeps dying with signal 8

2010-06-17 Thread Axton
Signal 8 is Floating point exception. Try commenting out all the plugins
in ar.conf and see if the plugin server can be started by armonitor.

The link resolution you have when trying to start outside armonitor is
because the LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not contain the location of the libs.

No that looks OK. So, the .so may not be part of the link and may be
loaded dynamically in which case ldd won't know about it.

Do you get anything in the plugin logs? You can also use truss (Solaris -
try strace on Linux) to see what actually happened - ie if the process was
actually started and when the request was made for the .so.

The execute bit is on and the non-root user is the owner of all of these

You are right about the paths - they are correct on the server but not in

 Hi All,

In an interview point of view, I have gathered the below questions and
 looking for answers. Please help.

 1) What is the difference between and Active Link and a Filter?
 2) What is a .def file used for?
 3) What is a .arx file?
 4) Who is Doug Mueller?
 5) What is a use for an Active Link Guide?

 8) What does ARS stand for?
 9) What are the core fields?
 10) What does $MENU$ do?
 11) What is the function of DDE-Poke?
 12) What are ar.ini and ar.conf files used for?
 13) Describe the features that are available by comparing ARS Ver. 6.3,
 7.1
 and 7.5 majorly?
 14) Why ardiff utility is used for?
 15) How do you deploy your application on web?
 16) When and in what situation you use workflow log, arerror.log,
 arfilter.log, aresc.log?
 17) Explain the actions available in active link which are not in Filters.
 Explain why it is not.
 18) Why ardiff utility is used for?
 19) What is the primary table in the AR System data dictionary?
 20) How does the AR System manage the data you see in Remedy Forms?
 21) Without using DSO or EIE, what are your thoughts for providing a
'STANDARDIZED' methodology for interfacing/integrating with Remedy
applications. This customer was actually looking to use C.I.M. or some
other open standard solution to interface with Remedy what you say?
 22) How do you troubleshoot AR System server outages to restore access to
 the system?
 23) How does mid-tier work and where does it fit in the client server
 architecture?
 24) Describe how filters work? They were actually looking how filters
 work
in different phases... which led to the next question.
 25) Can you force a filter to fire all actions in the first phase?
 26) List all of the possible uses for guides. They were looking for
 walking
 tables?
 27) What is walking tables?

View form records to table field

2010-06-17 Thread NNMN
Hi ARSers,

I am checking for all possible views on this below mentioned scenario.
1. I have a view form with records basically fetched from external db.
2. I have a table field in a regular form of which the records shown are
from this view form.

I know one way is to push data into a regular form and then fetch them into
this table field. Are there any other possibilities that you find so as to
optimally implement this?

Thanks in advance for you views :)

Is Remedy login ID aliasing possible (irrespetive of AREA auth)?

2010-06-17 Thread Wayne Keenan
Hi,

The users in a customer's Remedy 7.5 system have their login id set to their
Active Directory shortnames.

This is working well with AREALDAP with no aliasing being required.

However, the customer would like to be able to let the users enter their
email (or principal name in AD speak) into the UserTool /without/ changing
the Remedy login ID. (Because of the knock on effects of existing user id
references in incidents, approvals etc)

After reading the 7.5 integration guide and KM11373 it would appear that
although it would be possible to map from a login id to an AD/orother ID it
isn't possible for Remedy to find a user on anything other than the Remedy
Login ID, irrespective of AREA auth being enabled. Is that correct?

Probably a basic question, but you never know what's buried out there :)
Any feedback is greatly welcomed.

Regards
Wayne

There are? Really? Where? MAPI is entirely a closed-source Microsoft
standard, and is tied extensively to the Windows platform and API's. Those
libraries do not exist on a linux platform which is why the code was never
ported.

This is why so many people who use a linux desktop (including myself) have
to use a third party connector (used to be the Ximian Connector now via
Novell and then into open source) and the Evolution client to get it to
work. If there is something new out there in the software landscape that
does the same thing, I would be very interested in reading about it.

Remedy-wise, it's always just been easier to use a different protocol for
mail, such as POP3 or IMAP, since they are at least a standard and clients
and utilities are plentiful.

When using the email engine on *nix I've always had to use POP3.
Typically this involves using SSL so the transaction is encrypted (POP3 is
very insecure without it).

MS Exchange accounts can be set to allow for POP3 access. In larger
companies it is often required to set one server aside as the Special
pop3 server and firewall it off/lock it down so only the server(s) that
need to access it can get to it.

I don't believe you can use the email engine with MAPI on Linux. The
MAPI implementation requires a JNI library to call MAPI functions that is
provided as a dll (eg armapi71.dll). This is only supplied with a Windows
email engine, there is no Unix/Linux equivalent.

CAI:AppRegistry available entries in ACTL for TMS:Task form

2010-06-17 Thread Christine
I have SR’s that create Changes and then we add tasks to the Change.
Viewing the SR from the Change is OOB; now we want to view it from the
Task.

I have the looked at the View Service Request button on the Change
form. The ACTL activated by this button is ACTL
INT:CHGSRS:CRQ:ViewSRDetails_ and uses the fields
SRSMRegistryInstanceID and SRID. I have copied these fields to the
Task form and the fields are updating with the correct values (same
values as the entries on the parent Change record). I think I need to
copy these fields and values to the TMS:TaskInterface form as well;
that will be done.

I’ve copied the ACTL INT:CHGSRS:CRQ:ViewSRDetails_OpenDialog to a new
ACTL called INT:TMS:VewiSRDetails_OpenDialog. I am specifying the
TMS:Task form to use with the new ACTL.

On the original ACTL there is a Set Fields action where it reads
values from the CAI:AppRegistry form. The fields set are
AppInterfaceForm (value “SRS:RequestDetails”) and AppInstanceServer
(value $Server$). On the new ACTL, referencing the TMS:Task form these
options of AppinterfaceForm and AppInstanceServer are not on the drop
down list.

I have made an entry in the CAI Application Registry form for BMC
Remedy Task Management for Instance Form = TMS:Task and Interface Form
= TMS:TaskInterface based on the BMC Remedy Change Management entry.

What should I do in order to be able to have available the entries of
AppInterfaceForm and AppInstanceServer from the CAI:AppRegistry form
in an ACTL when the base form is TMS:Task?

Thanks much,
Christine

Re: Interview Questions - Please help

2010-06-17 Thread Easter, David
BTW, I generally direct folks to the documentation section of Support Central
vs. downloading the doc from EPD. For a few reasons:

1. Products only show up on EPD if you have them under your contract. Support
Central shows all products - regardless of whether you own them or not
2. You can URL link directly to documents - but not to files on EPD.
3. Navigation is a little easier to get to the Doc section vs. moving all the
way through EPD and then downloading the zip file.

Thanks,

I strongly recommend you to go through the available documentation which would

Issue generating archive form in ITSM 7.0.3 patch 6/ARS 7.0.1 patch 8 - HPD:Help Desk

2010-06-17 Thread T Wang
Does anyone ever get below message when trying to create an archive form?

Could not create the Archive or Audit Form specified. Archive/Audit for this
form has been disabled. (ARWARN 8992).
Both the Source form and the Archive or Audit form must belong to the same
Application. : Remedy Incident Management (ARWARN 8994).

I tried and set Audit feature to none and have tried all the archive type
available and still those methods didn't work.

We found a Remedy KB indicated a defect on this issue, contact BMC support, but
they couldn't provide a workaround at the moment.

Any help would be appreciate.

The application is licensed and I can access Asset Management Console

Re: View form records to table field

2010-06-17 Thread patchsk
I guess you could directly use a view form inside a table field
instead of inserting into another regular form and then referencing
unless you have a specific reason.

I know one way is to push data into a regular form and then fetch them into
this table field. Are there any other possibilities that you find so as to
 optimally implement this?

Thanks in advance for you views :)

CR and Mid-tier on the same box

2010-06-17 Thread patrick zandi
Do you have a latest list of instructions for installing CR and Mid-tier
from scratch.. by any chance..
I have seen a couple of your posts.. about security, and java, and little
tid bits..

I will make one myself on the next install, I just do not have an availible
box to test..

-

Also what about using the BMC Analytics.. have you used that as the CR
server? with mid-tier at the same time.. We had it here once, but I did not
do it..
do you have anything on this as well ?

Thanks Bud...

I will use the latest version of JAVA and create a step by step with what I
do as well.. if you wish.

Re: troubleshooting flashboards help

2010-06-17 Thread patchsk
Did your arsystem configured for LDAP with ActiveDirectory across
different domains or authentication chaining mode?
Flashboards work through midtier so all it uses is midtier
password, remedy application password which is in ar.conf, along with
your regular authentication which is stored inside user form or LDAP
source.

Your Remedy Password is encrypted and stored in the Windows Registry.
You can try clearing the cache files that the User Tool stores in your

your report formats and queries are stored.

Can you access these from the mid-tier or another computer?

I haven't tried it with mixed case like you are trying but I think it is

Re: Interview Questions - Please help- Rant

2010-06-17 Thread Warren Baltimore
Without knowing the truth/motivation of the original poster, I would very
gently point out that it is quite possible that someone has been asked to
hire a Remedy developer without really knowing what that is.

I say this only because in an earlier life, I worked in HR at a major
university. It was not uncommon for me to have to conduct interviews with
people about positions I knew little about. I would have to ask the people
who were currently in those jobs for questions and answers that I could ask
that would help me weed out folks before I sent them on to the hiring
managers (who hopefully knew a hell of a lot more than I do). A particular
case comes to mind where I and 2 others were asked to re-interview
plumbers. A Master plumber had been hired, but it was suggested that the
only reason he had been hired was that he had 2 brothers (also plumbers)
working in that department. It was up to us to interview these folks and
make a decision based on there technical skills who was the best for the job
(it was only recently that I learned how to use a plunger!) I did quite a
bit of research prior to the interviews so that I could ask intelligent
questions, and understand if I was getting an intelligent answer back!

If someone is just trying to put together a cheat sheet, trust me, their
ignorance will come shining through!

2010-06-17 Thread pritch
I was in an interview one time when the person asking the questions was
actually thumbing through the developer handbook. About 15 minutes in, I
told him to call me back when he got done studying.

On the flip side, I had a very keen manager not ask a single technical
question - he had already spoken with other folks in the industry that knew
me - so he had a darn good idea what I could do.

Re: Interview Questions - Please help

2010-06-17 Thread McClure, Don
If LJ will allow me...

My wife used to work in HR circles for hiring of technical personnel. She
tells me the following
concerning employment law here in the United States:
- it is actually not illegal to ask questions about age, race, gender, marital
status, etc;
- but it IS ILLEGAL TO ACTUALL USE SUCH INFORMATION during the hiring decision
(unless
hiring authority can prove such answers are related to the job!).

Trouble is: once a person has obtained ANY information, how do you prove that
information was NOT used?
Therefore, most HR departments enforce a policy: DO NOT ASK!!!

And, such a 'know/did-not-know' criteria can be applied to technology questions
as well, making
a really meaningful (and fully legal!) screening of an employee for a
technology post quite challenging,
especially here in the US.

Isapi redirector hanging

2010-06-17 Thread Shane Fish
We have a need to run the IIS 6 and Apache 5.5.25 with the use of the
redirector on our Mid-Tier (Web) Server.

Current WEB Platform: ARS 7.1 Patch003 , Java 1.6.0_14, Windows 2003,
Apache 5.5.25

The platform was initially setup to run with Tomcat/Apache 5.5.25 only.
Was working fine but the SSL Certs needed now can only be applied to IIS 6
and we've got to comply.

I'm upgrading to 7.1 Patch009 Mid-tier and the system continues to hang
while Installing ISAPI_REDIRECTOR_DLL. I've tried just running the
midtier.exe and selecting to re-install and this is where it hangs.

My next step is to remove the current Apache and Mid-Tier setting and
install similar to a new platform.

The current IIS 6 server already has a https cert applied and I was
wondering if this could be causing the hange.

NOTE: I've had to do this on about 3 New installs successfully but this
one again was already running with just apache and ars 7.1 patch003 and
continues to hang. Have not heard anything from Remedy Support.

Thanks,

Shane

Ram,

If you cannot answer most of those questions, then maybe you need to apply
for a very Jr. Remedy job.

There are some on that list, that I might have to think about and then
question why am I applying for this job.

What is your backgorund and what type of job are you applying for.

Selection List column headings

2010-06-17 Thread Enslin Van Blerk - MWEB

Hi Everyone

I found a similar question in the archives regarding my question under
Selection List column
headingshttp://www.mail-archive.com/arslist@arslist.org/msg16568.html does
anyone know if this enhancement was ever completed?

I am using ARS 7.1 patch 006
I created an AL and if multiple results Display a List
If I use the usertool I don't see any column names, however in MidTier I see
Column1, Column2, Column3 etc. Is there a way to change the column names
even if it is just in MidTier?

Critical:external qualification issue

2010-06-17 Thread Anuj DUA
Hello,

On passing below ShowQual in our external qualification, the system is
converting it into (1=0).

ShowQual (58002) = (('IncidentID' = Original ) OR ('IncidentID'
=$NULL$)) AND ( 'zTmpKeyword' = $zTmpShowAssignedReq$ )

(EXTERNAL( $ShowQual$)

Please suggest what could be the reason for this.

Re: View form records to table field

2010-06-17 Thread NNMN
Yes Patch,

At first when i created the table field i was not able to find the View Form
in the list of forms that could be selected. Later i created the view form
again by deleting the previous one and now I am able to see it in the list.

Thanks a lot

I guess you could directly use a view form inside a table field

 Hi ARSers,

I am checking for all possible views on this below mentioned scenario.
 1. I have a view form with records basically fetched from external db.
 2. I have a table field in a regular form of which the records shown are
 from this view form.

I know one way is to push data into a regular form and then fetch them
 into
this table field. Are there any other possibilities that you find so as
 to
 optimally implement this?

Thanks in advance for you views :)

 Cheers,
