Time Criteria in Exclude When in Service Targets - not working properly

2012-04-26 Thread Kali Obsum
Hi,

Has anyone tried using a time criteria in the Exclude When parameter of
Service Targets?

We've created Service Targets wherein the Exclude When is defined as:

'Status' = Pending AND 'date/time field in INC form' $\TIMESTAMP$

It works initially wherein when it satisfies the condition, the Service
Target is put on hold. However, if you don't modify anything in the
ticket and you go past the value of the date/time field, it doesn't put
the Service Target back to In Progress. You have to modify something in
the ticket first and save it before it would start counting again.

Has anyone been able to make this work?

Regards,

Kali

Midtier querie

2012-04-26 Thread vidyasagar kommu
Hi All,

I am looking for midtier gloabl login implementation .we are not using
LDAP server to verify the userid and passwords
we are planning to implement in Security Platform it provides
authentication (i.e., logon) services for UserID holders and other
user domains. Security Platform uses a single sign-on approach.

we are using ITSM 7.1 version
Basically I am looking for some solution like if a user is logging in
using Mid tier he should be logged in automatically if his user
credentials are present in the Security Platform.

Does anybody have any idea about this, or anybody has tried this before.

Thanks in advance .

Re: Count of records

2012-04-26 Thread Ben Chernys
Meta-Update has a sample that runs through arschema and builds a CSV of
pertinent details plus a record count.
Meta-Query allows you ARS and SQL queries without a database client.

A trial license is free and includes this and other samples. You would have
your counts after a few minutes of our Live Install WebEx session.

Arschema does not give a count of rows. It does give the next available '1'
field value but that cannot be used as it will not take deletions and
uncreated records into account.

You can build a View form on arschema and populate an extra DO field on a
Get filter with the count.

Re: Count of records

2012-04-26 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
You do not require the ARAdmin password to run a direct SQL on your
application..

Customize your app wherein, you run a direct SQL in a set field operation to
set a field with $1$ of the SQL statement ==

select count(*) from view name

Do not use the terminating ; character on your direct SQL as the AR System
engine takes care of that..

Use that statement in a set field action and set a temp field to return your
count to.. This will not limit your count by what your get list limits on
your server or your clients are..

Re: Def-export of Packing Lists missing objects...

2012-04-26 Thread LJ LongWing
Well...I'm referring specifically to the getContainer call (I use Java) off of
the ARServerUser object, and then do a print of that object structure. I'm
asking because we are on 7.6.4 SP1, upgrading to SP3 shortly in production. We
use packing lists extensively to determine the code that needs to be moved to
prod from Dev...but we don't use the Dev studio to export our code, we use a
custom app I have written that walks the contents of the packing list and
exports each object to its own def file and I've never experienced the
situation that you are discussing, but mainly because I don't ask my
ARServerUser object to export the entire PL, but instead, a separate export for
each object within it...so I'm looking to see if you can identify within the PL
Object on the server if each object is 'defined properly'basically...see if
you can figure out what's causing the objects that aren't showing up in your
def to not show up.

 Exporting as XML changed nothing.

I added the objects by right-clicking on the packing list and choosing

I removed, saved, closed, reopened and readded a problematic object.

This resulted in 65 exported objects instead of the 63 I had before the

The ONLY difference if I look at the exported container-definition

Rack and Enclosure modeling in CMDB 2.1

2012-04-26 Thread Logan, Kelly
Hello all,

I am looking for some experience/advice: We are looking at modeling our
computer centers in Atrium CMDB 2.1 (w/ ARS ITSM 7.6.4), including the racks
and enclosures. I am looking at several concepts right now to model this data
and would be interested in any strategies others have found to be useful in
their environments. What I am looking to determine now is not only how to
model the data itself, but what processes will be automatically provided, and
what processes I will have to customize/create in order to help Infrastructure
do their job.

Here's what I am thinking of right now (in broad terms):

1. Extend the BMC_Equipment class to create PQ_Rack and PQ_Enclosure
classes, perhaps with AU (slot) classes as well.

2. Utilize BMC_PhysicalLocation to represent object locations (Rack 3-5,
AU slot 2) and use custom reports to track overall locations.

3. Extend the current BMC_Rack and BMC_Chassis to add necessary
attributes.

4. Federate the location (rack, enclosure) data into a custom Nlyte-like
application.

If there is a way to utilize the Common Data Model without customization, that
would be my preference. Note that the Racks and Enclosures do not simply hold
blades, they also hold network modules/patch panels, SANs, power, etc; each of
these may also take up more than one slot per.

By processes, I mean that Infrastructure will want to be able to quickly tell
from an asset name, where it is precisely (site, grid location, rack and
enclosure slot). Or, given a two slot asset, where they can plug it in
(display the racks where two consecutive slots are available, or at least show
the open slots in a fashion that it is easy to see where two consecutive ones
are).

For example, if I follow strategy 1. and create PQ_Rack and PQ_Enclosure
classes, let's say I create AU (slot) classes as well, with component
relationships to the racks and enclosures. It seems like this would allow me
to define the number of AUs by creating only those CIs (If a rack has 20 slots,
I create 20 AU CIs). This would also let me indicate when a slot is
unavailable (because cords it is used for cord management, for example) by
setting that AU CI's status. Each thing put into a slot would be connected to
it using a location relationship. This seems to be the cleanest and most
Object Oriented of the set, and if I understand the system correctly, I could
only allow 1:1 relationships between the slot and the slotted asset, which
would prevent any mistakes. There is concern however that this would involved
too much extra work.

Again, if anyone has tried modeling racks and enclosures in this kind of detail
or done some investigation on doing it I would appreciate your experience and
advice on the subject.

Thank you in advance,

Sequential Approval functionality

2012-04-26 Thread Vikram_Betholi
I have created a Service Request (SR).Once after it gets created
'Approver1','Approver2' and 'Approver3' should be able to approve it and then

these approvals should happen sequentially. i.e once 'Approver1' approves then
only 'Approver2'record should get generated and similarly for 'Approver3'
record.

At the time of SR submission itself , i can write a Filter with Run Process
action, where in i can use 'Application-Command-Approval' command for
generating the approval. For generating 3 approval records, i can write three
RunProcess actions in the same filter.BUt using this, it will generate the 3

I need one approval after the another. Can some one help me with this?

Re: Sequential Approval functionality

2012-04-26 Thread Mueller, Doug
Vikram,

I will point you to the Approval Server and the documentation about that
subsystem. There is a full manual to describe that subsystem and how to
configure it.

You will end up creating an approval process and you configure the SRM product
to call that -- no custom filter is needed. The process you configure for doing
what you are calling for can be done in a number of different ways. To some
degree, it depends on the relationship between the three approvers.

Option 1 -- if the approvers are a management chain

Simply define a hierarchical approval model and point it at the form that
defines the management chain.

Option 2 -- if the approvers are a random list with no stored order other than
just needing to happen in sequence

You could define a committee approval model with three levels of committee and
one person in each committee. This allows you to list a random order of people
that happen in sequence and you could have one or several at each level.

Option 3 -- if there is some other rule you can use to find who is next after
one person approves

You could define a rule based approval processes where you supply the rules you
want to use to find the next users

There are options 4, 5, 6, and more as well. It all depends on what the
relationship of the people are.

You can even have an option where users are added by one approver specifying who
is next or for any option you can just add users at any time for additional
approvals or ..

More options and controls than you can dream of (like voting where you need
75% of a committee to approve to move forward or to run several full processes
either in parallel or serially with each approval process consisting of zero
or more people running together to produce a single result of approval or not).

All of this is available with the approval server.

Your request is actually a very simple flow that is easily configured within
the approval rules.

And importantly, all of this is CONFIGURATION where you go into the Approval
Server and build definitions of processes and rules (and notifications and
exception handling and other similar things) and the system will then run your
approval process. You do not need to create any workflow or use Dev Studio
for anything here.

It will also allow you to preview things so you can see who has approved, who
is left to approve and what order they are in.

Take a look. I think you will find what you are looking for.

Subject: Sequential Approval functionality

I have created a Service Request (SR).Once after it gets created
'Approver1','Approver2' and 'Approver3' should be able to approve it and then
only SR should move to the 'Plannng' stage from 'Waiting For Approval'. But
these approvals should happen sequentially. i.e once 'Approver1' approves then
only 'Approver2'record should get generated and similarly for 'Approver3'
record.

At the time of SR submission itself , i can write a Filter with Run Process
action, where in i can use 'Application-Command-Approval' command for
generating the approval. For generating 3 approval records, i can write three
RunProcess actions in the same filter.BUt using this, it will generate the 3
records at a time, which will not suite my requirement.

I need one approval after the another. Can some one help me with this?

Re: Rack and Enclosure modeling in CMDB 2.1

2012-04-26 Thread Peter Romain
Hi Kelly,

Here's what I've done in the past:

- A blade chassis is a computer in its own right so map it in the
computer system class

- Map blades also as computer systems and relate them as components
of the blade chassis

- Relate computer systems that are in real racks to the racks in
the rack class

- Relate blades and virtual systems running on the blades to a
cluster as you may not know which actual blade is hosting a VM at a
particular time

- Add height and rack location attributes to the computer system
class

- Add a new tab and table to the rack class and display the
computers in the rack in the table along with their height and position

- Add a field under the table showing the sum of the heights of the
computers

- Add a new attribute to the rack to hold the size of the rack

- Create a new power management class (sibling of UPS) to hold
power strips and power sources (product categorisation defines each)

- Relate the strips and power sources to the computers

- Use the CI location fields to identify where the racks are
located (including room floor with appropriate naming conventions)

The federation you can do to Nlyte might be better and replace some of the
above but in my case the client didn't have any data centre tools and wasn't
prepared to pay for any!!

I've also been involved with mapping building - floor - room to separate,
related physical locations as we needed in this case to store access, air
conditioning and other details for each of these areas in the CMDB.

Don't be afraid of extending the CMDB as you'll get better value from it if
it stores what the users want and in doing so can retire the spreadsheets
and ad-hoc databases they are probably using now!

Cheers

Peter

Subject: Rack and Enclosure modeling in CMDB 2.1

**

Hello all,

I am looking for some experience/advice: We are looking at modeling our
computer centers in Atrium CMDB 2.1 (w/ ARS ITSM 7.6.4), including the
racks and enclosures. I am looking at several concepts right now to model
this data and would be interested in any strategies others have found to be
useful in their environments. What I am looking to determine now is not
only how to model the data itself, but what processes will be automatically
provided, and what processes I will have to customize/create in order to
help Infrastructure do their job.

Here's what I am thinking of right now (in broad terms):

1. Extend the BMC_Equipment class to create PQ_Rack and PQ_Enclosure
classes, perhaps with AU (slot) classes as well.

2. Utilize BMC_PhysicalLocation to represent object locations (Rack
3-5, AU slot 2) and use custom reports to track overall locations.

3. Extend the current BMC_Rack and BMC_Chassis to add necessary
attributes.

4. Federate the location (rack, enclosure) data into a custom
Nlyte-like application.

If there is a way to utilize the Common Data Model without customization,
that would be my preference. Note that the Racks and Enclosures do not
simply hold blades, they also hold network modules/patch panels, SANs,
power, etc; each of these may also take up more than one slot per.

By processes, I mean that Infrastructure will want to be able to quickly
tell from an asset name, where it is precisely (site, grid location, rack
and enclosure slot). Or, given a two slot asset, where they can plug it in
(display the racks where two consecutive slots are available, or at least
show the open slots in a fashion that it is easy to see where two
consecutive ones are).

For example, if I follow strategy 1. and create PQ_Rack and PQ_Enclosure
classes, let's say I create AU (slot) classes as well, with component
relationships to the racks and enclosures. It seems like this would allow
me to define the number of AUs by creating only those CIs (If a rack has 20
slots, I create 20 AU CIs). This would also let me indicate when a slot is
unavailable (because cords it is used for cord management, for example) by
setting that AU CI's status. Each thing put into a slot would be connected
to it using a location relationship. This seems to be the cleanest and most
Object Oriented of the set, and if I understand the system correctly, I
could only allow 1:1 relationships between the slot and the slotted asset,
which would prevent any mistakes. There is concern however that this would
involved too much extra work.

Again, if anyone has tried modeling racks and enclosures in this kind of
detail or done some investigation on doing it I would appreciate your
experience and advice on the subject.

Thank you in advance,

Worked great for things like sending a chown command on log files that I

The same could hold true if your ARSystem db user is a sysadmin. Be

Force Logout after inactivity?

2012-04-26 Thread Joel Sender
Anyone know a way to end an ARS session after a period of inactivity?

I thought of using an active link (on Save, Display etc.) to update a ‘last
activity’ field; add a timed-active link to compare the timestamp and “close
all” after the limit has been reached.

BUT that wouldn’t detect keystrokes, which could cause a time-out while
entering text.

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks,

A question on Remedy 6.3

2012-04-26 Thread John Atherly
First off yes I still have a small group of users that are still on 6.3

I have been asked to look at an issue were users are not getting the list
menu after they type in a name on a form

I have a form call let say Phone Numbers and on this form is a character
field in which they can type in a partial name and then an active link
fire to set it to all Caps. Then the same active link takes the value in
caps and does a look up to the SHR:People form to find LIKE matching Full
Name and returns the needed information.

I have three environment Dev QA and Production. If I try it, it works
on all three servers but if a standard user tries it, it only works on
Dev and QA. In the log file I can see it changing to caps and doing the
look up but if no match is found it set the field to NULL. If the
standard user just types in any letter found in their Full Name it will
only return their record. So I think it is working it's just that they
can not see others SHR:People records. They have view access to the
form and read access to Full Name.

I have removed all the workflow and replaced it with a new copy from QA

Both server have submitter lock on

Is there any other server setting that I can not think of since I think
this is a permission issue on the server level.

Working in 6.3 Admin I really did miss the function of Dev Studio.

Which version of remedy you are in.
Are you using thick client or web or both?
Incase if your intention is to save licenses by ending the session,
There are a few options already available in latest versions.
Midtier -- Session Timeout, License Release timeout
ARS -- Floating License Timeout.

Re: A question on Remedy 6.3

2012-04-26 Thread John Atherly
The permission on QA and Prod matched. But while closing the window on
the SHR:People form production I click save by mistake even though I made
no changes to the form or permission. How it is working!I forgot
about the trick of just opening and saving it.

Thanks everyone

John,
Check the permissions they have to the request ID on Prod…I would bet that
they don’t have access to everyone elses record…so you likely have
assignee in there…but not public, or something similar.

**

SRM 7.6.04 - Changing Companies

2012-04-26 Thread Tauf Chowdhury
All,
I've got a requirement to have to change SRDs and of course the PDTs and
AOTs associated with it so that the Company is set to -Global- instead of a
specific company. By default, the SRD, PDT, and AOT forms each have the
company field set to RO. Has anyone ever done this before and if so, are
there any other supporting forms involved in changing the Company?
The options I'm thinking are to find the AL that makes the field RO and
disable it temporarily so I can modify the Company directly. The other
option may be to export and re-import with the updated Company.

Re: Count of records

2012-04-26 Thread Jose Huerta
I know you can't customize nor access the DB. I see no solution to your
case.

But I can provide you some solutions, customizing or accessing the database.

All of this is for Oracle.

1.- Run an SQL sentence:

SELECT A.SCHEMAID, A.NAME, A.NEXTID, T.NUM_ROWS FROM ARSCHEMA A JOIN
user_tables T ON ( ('T' ||TRIM(TO_CHAR(A.SCHEMAID))) = T.TABLE_NAME)

Provides you the next ID and number of requests at each regular form.

2.- Create a view using the previous SQL and map it to a View Form.

3.- Create a view form mapping the user_tables table. Then create a join
view between this form and the AR System metadata:arschema form, with the
join qualification like the provided one.

And as usual no customization allowed.

Re: Time Criteria in Exclude When in Service Targets - not working properly

2012-04-26 Thread Jose Huerta
Service targets criteria are only evaluated at submit or modifications on
the original request. You must force an update on the request.

I solved it in the past, for a more complex requisite, using a scheduler.
You can find a description at
http://theremedyforit.com/2012/01/scheduling-actions-in-bmc-remedy-action-request-system/

My recommendation is not to use the date/time field at the incident, but to
use a flag field that reports something like: In Time Out of time. And
have the scheduler to change the value at the desired time. To have one
escalation running at every minute is a high CPU consuming task if the
qualification is over the HPD:Help Desk form, but not for a almost always
empty form.

It works initially wherein when it satisfies the condition, the Service
Target is put on hold. However, if you don’t modify anything in the ticket

Service Target back to In Progress. You have to modify something in the

Re: Force Logout after inactivity?

2012-04-26 Thread Joel Sender
ARS 7.6.4

WUT now, moving to M/T

This is a security requirement, not related to license management.

Requirement is to duplicate windows automatic screen lock in ARS application.

My initial suggestion to just reply upon Windows to lock up, but the ARS owner
wants an even shorter time than the enterprise default.

60 Min floating license time-out is too long and this must apply to fixed
license users, too.

Session timeout in M/T has same 60 minute minimum.

License Timeout has to do with the session license expiring after a browser is
improperly closed:

“The mid-tier initiates a delay timer when the user closes the last browser

window associated with the established HTTP session. When the delay

timer expires, the user’s license is released, and the HTTP session

terminated.

If the user navigates back to the mid-tier URL before the delay time

expires, the delay timer is cancelled, and the current HTTP session is

resumed.”

There has GOT to be an ARS way to do this (without an active link on every
field!)

There are a few options already available in latest versions.

Midtier -- Session Timeout, License Release timeout

ARS -- Floating License Timeout.

This permission issue on the midtier is a bug. SW00376993, resolved in
Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 8.

Do we have a form in remedy 7.6.X where we can check the count of rows in

give count of rows. My Getlist query on server is restricted to 2K records

 as usual no customization allowed.

Re: Count of records

2012-04-26 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza

In oracle it would pretty much drop the ARAdmin user and everything it owns..
It’s a cascaded delete.. So long as you have the rights to DROP USER, it will
work and drop the entire ARSystem database and everything else that ARAdmin was
the owner of :-).. Its useful to rebuild test boxes from scratch

http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_oracle_drop_user_cascade.htm

I just noticed you typed that its almost friday so I’m not sure now if you were
serious when you asked this or not :-)

Re: Force Logout after inactivity?

2012-04-26 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza

Joel,

Whatever method you use to get your timing, PERFORM-ACTION-APPLICATION-EXIT
will actually logout and not just close windows..

Closing windows would not logout, especially if you are using Windows Explorer
with tabs or one of the other browsers with tabs.. the action stated above
will.. This is available since version 5.5 if I am not mistaken...

When the delay

timer expires, the user’s license is released, and the HTTP session

terminated.

If the user navigates back to the mid-tier URL before the delay time

expires, the delay timer is cancelled, and the current HTTP session is

resumed.”

There has GOT to be an ARS way to do this (without an active link on every
field!)

?

** Which version of remedy you are in.

Are you using thick client or web or both?

Incase if your intention is to save licenses by ending the session,

There are a few options already available in latest versions.

Midtier -- Session Timeout, License Release timeout

ARS -- Floating License Timeout.

Thanks,
