Fwd: HELP--SLA Terms and Conditions report needed!!

2010-09-01 Thread George Jungle
Hi guys,

Resurecting this email (yes I have been subscribed for that long!).

Once upon a time, ( ITSM 5 - 6) there was a OOTB report that contained all
the details of all SLAs configured (see
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7411/slareportsample2.jpg) but this seemed
to disappear with ITSM 7+.

Has anyone been able to create a crystal/BO report to provide the same
info? or anyone know whether BMC are looking at reintroducing this
report?

It was truly a great report to have.

Thanks!

George

Hello All,

There is an out-of-box report available under Service Level
Agreement---General---Details which gives the complete details of all the
SLA's created including TermsConditions, Milestones, etc.
Thanks you all for the suggestions.

SLA's Term and Condition is stored SLA_Rule_Condition, not in SLA_Main. You
can easily create report based on this fact from Crystal Report, but if you
don't have that option you can run a query against the database and dump the
information to spreadsheet.

Hello All,

We are on version ARS 6.3/HD6/SLA 6.x. There is a requirement in the team
here that we need a report of all the SLA's that have been made and their
terms and conditions attached. I have seen the Service Level Agreements form
for the same and when I took out the report on the native client in an excel
sheet, the Terms and Condition field value is blank though all other things
like Business Hours tag/ holidays tag attached can be viewed in the report.
On database level alos, I tried taking out the report but was not able to do
the same.

Is there any other form which might be storing all the Terms and Conditions
of all the SLA's created and if yes, can a report be taken out from the
same? If no, then from the form I am using, is it possible to take out the
Terms and Conditions in a reort format.

Thanks.

  Hi guys,

we've finally been able to justify our need for mobility and the use of
 ITSM!

So, hence we're currently looking at Aeroprise as a prime contender (lots
 of blackberrys in the organisation).

From the Aeroprise site, it seems to quote the implementation time as being
'3 days'... How realistic is this? What type of implementation do you
think we would be up for if we went for all the ITSM modules (Inc, Prob,
 Chg, SR, Asset).

Love to hear from your experiences.

 Thanks.

AR Server Caching within Server Group

2009-06-05 Thread George Jungle
Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone is getting issues with AR Server re-caching that
occurs on the non-admin AR Servers within an AR Server group.

We're seeing something where it's taking up to 7 minutes to perform a
re-cache. During this time, other services (SLM, Dispatcher, user traffic)
are triyng to get a response from these non-admin AR Servers running the
non-admin AR Server is busy doing something and eventually the processes die
out.

This seems to occur when a significant code change occurs, for example when
modifying a field on a form, making changes to the CMDB structure,
configuring a Service Target... pretty much anything that creates/modifies
AR Server Objects...

Also seems to be that each re-cache that occurs, the memory consumption on
the AR Server goes up fairly high (gets close or hits to the 4GB max range)!

Anyway, let me know if anyone is using Server Groups out there and whether
they're seeing any issues relating to server cache.

Versions - AR 7.1 Patch 6 + ITSM 7.03 Patch 7 running on Solaris 10

Thanks.

Re: License Information

2009-05-07 Thread George Jungle
I think you'll find that the 3 products you identify come with the latest
version of Atrium CMDB.

Enterprise Integration Engine (EIE) is now known as AIE.

The licenses for these was separate when we were dealing with earlier
versions of AR (i.e. pre 7).

EIE is used to provide a mechanism to perform a data import into a Remedy
form (with validation). The Remedy Links are components that EIE can use
to connect to an Oracle DB or MSSQL DB.

ARServer group and the ports that require load balancing

2009-04-06 Thread George Jungle
Guys,

Wondering if you can help me out.

We've got an issue with the Plug-in server running within a high available
environment of Remedy (2 Midtiers, 2 AR Servers, 2 DB Servers) with each
tier separated by a firewall. There is one load balancer in front of the
midtier servers and another in front of the AR Servers. So, basically the
AR Servers are running within a Server Group.

When we try to open up a Remedy form, such as the Server Information form,
we get an error saying :

ARERR [8939] The AR System Plug-In server is not responding. Cannot connect
to the system at this time. Contact your AR System Administrator for
assistance. : RPC: Timed out

Currently the only port that is load balanced is the TCP port that the users
access the AR Servers by.

Should we also need to load balance the Plug-In port? (9000)?

All help is appreciated.

Below are some emails I've dug up just from searching the web...

Thanks.

George

You probably need to review the BMC documents about plugins behind a VIP
or firewall without a portmapper. Using a Hardware Load Balancer with
BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.0 page 9, and others that I can't find
at the moment.

Here's an example of some lines from one of our ar.conf's (this one from a
server group, but relevant since we don't use portmapper either)

Plugin-Port: 9000

REMEDY.ARDBC.FLASHBOARD.FORM ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARDBC.SERVER.ADMINISTRATION
REMEDY.ARDBC.SERVER.ADMINISTRATION ksms562:9000

Hello listers.

ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System
Plug-In server : bmcstage : RPC: Rpcbind failure - RPC: Unable to receive

This is what I got in RUT when I move my ARS server behind the firewall,
uncheck Register with portmapper, assign static TCP port and shutdown
remedy portmapper service. And restart my windows box of course - a shut
in a head 8).

This error appears only in Problem Management Console on window open.
Other consoles - incident, asset, cmdb -
appear without any errors.

No errors in arerror, armonitor, arplugin logs and no errors on client
side logs too.

When I change environment back (no firewall restrictions at all) and move
to portmapper - everything is fine again.

Why (and which?) plugin try to register himself in portmapper? Or maybe
the cause is something else?

Best way would be to take a back up of deff before applying patch, take

affected customization , so that you can later do manual changes for
form level changes and do import for work flow changes.

Make a list of forms/views that would be affected by going through the
 patch pdf.

We had some issues with ARS P4 on people form , where row level access
behaved in strange way which is fixed at the movement.

RPC-Non-Blocking-IO parameter

2008-04-17 Thread George Jungle
Hey all,

If you'll recall I mentioned that we're getting issues with our arserverd
'hanging'.

The AR System 7.0 Configuring guide indicates that there is a parameter
known as RPC-Non-Blocking-IO which when set :

Prevents invalid or corrupt packets from temporarily disabling the
arserverd service.

This sounds like our monkey.

Has anyone got any information about using setting and what the 'down' side
of using it is? Anyone been forced to turn this on at all How does a
corrupted packet occur anyway??? (so many questions)

All I can get from the doco is :

This parameter enables the AR System on compliant systems to receive remote
procedure calls in a non-blocking mode. Without this setting, the server
must receive an entire RPC header before processing a different one.
With this setting, the system can process multiple headers at the same time.
Set this parameter to T (TRUE) and then restart your AR System server to run
in RPC non-blocking mode.
The default for this parameter is F (FALSE); use the following syntax to set
to TRUE:

RPC-Non-Blocking-IO: T
This functionality is not supported on Windows and Linux operating systems.
The advantages of RPC-Non-Blocking-IO mode are as follows:
Prevents remote attackers from disabling RPC services.
Prevents invalid or corrupt packets from temporarily disabling the arserverd
service.

Thanks

Hey guys,

We're getting a strange issue (seemingly intermittent) with the arserverd

All existing and new clients receive a TimeOut error, but yet when you
check :
 -the processes at the o/s
-the error logs
-db sessions

there is no evidence that there is an issue. (i.e. all processes running,
you get timeouts appearing due to Brie / SLM engine not being able to
connect and db sessions are not 'locked' or taking an extensive amount of
time to process).

It seems that the only way to fix this is to do a restart of the AR Server.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything remotely
similar to this?

I have seen this behavior in a situation we had where AR System was
actually restarting. There is no indication in any of the logs that the
server crashed or was manually stopped. You can detect this by having server
side SQL logging on when this occurs. If you see lots of SQL transactions
with no identified user associated to them, then the server process is
starting up. This doesn't help identify the root cause but the question
changes from Why does the server 'hang'? to Why is the server
restarting?

Ok. Thanks Roger. will give that a go next time it hangs... only prob is
it's intermittent and we really can't have SQL logging on all the time
will figure something out.

Re: Version 7.0.01 Patch 005 for BMC ARS - Server running on Solaris

2007-11-08 Thread George Jungle
Hey Carey,

Childhood wasn't too bad, you just gotta have a great sense of humour :-)
Luckily growing up in a remote island in the indian ocean works in my favour
as no oen really knew it! was only when i got here that i realised what it
was.

Otherwise, we're running Solaris 10 + Oracle 10g, and can see the issue
occuring when we attempt to resequence tasks throughout the tool.

It's pretty strange and we're getting an issue raised with BMC now.

I'd love to hear what everybody else is getting when they try this with
Patch 5.

looks like we might have to put this into Produciton in a hurry... not good,
but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Thanks all.

George

(Totally clean install on Linux with Oracle.) We have not yet put the

Although I did find it down tonight... looks like the OS rebooted...

Impersonating a requester using .net Remedy API

2007-02-18 Thread George Jungle

Howdy list,

This is the first time that I'm having to look into the use of the .net
Remedy API and was wondering if anyone can help me.

Basically due to company standards we are NOT able to use the OOB mid tier
for one particular organisational group.

What we're doing is developing some custom .net pages for the Requesters
within this group to log in and create/update dockets.

What's the resource for finding out how to 'impersonate' the requester
logging the case such that it makes them the submitter (and calls upon the
Submitter locked mode functionality)?

I've started to trawl through the Dev AR Apps basic and advanced guides but
any help (or potential gotchas) from those that have tried this would be
appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey Paul,

Check out the Basic Developer guide.

It says :

http://*host*/*contextpath*/servlet/LoginServlet?goto=*URL*server=*
name*username=*name*pwd=*passwordhttp://host/contextpath/servlet/LoginServlet?goto=URLserver=nameusername=namepwd=password

*
So in your case, try :

http://lwrem/arsys/servlet/LoginServlet?goto=http://lwrem/arsys/apps/default/lwrem/ITSMHelpDesk/ITSMstart.jspserver=lwremusername=useridpwd=password

http://lwrem/arsys/servlet/LoginServlet?goto=http://lwrem/arsys/apps/default/lwrem/ITSMHelpDesk/ITSMstart.jspserver=lwremusername=userid

For a blank password, just don't put anything after the pwd argument.

Re: UPDATE: Daylight saving time Technical Bulletin for AR System 6.0.1, 6.03 and 7.0.01

2007-01-18 Thread George Jungle

Hi all,

I'm coming in fairly new to this discussion on patches due to daylight
savings and am a bit confused about the whole thing.

My understanding always was that the ARServer does not keep its own registry
of daylight savings switch dates. I thought this was registry was inherenet
in the O/S or Java Run time engine?

Is there anything that gives more detail as to what (and how) is affected?

Thanks.

George.

Thank you so much for updating us, David. We really appreciate it.

We all know that the compatibility matrix allows the 7.0.x Mid-Tier to
point to an ARS 6.3 server.

But, do you know if the DST patches were tested in mixed environments as
well?

In particular Mid-Tier 7.0.01 Patch 1(DST) against ARS 6.3 Patch 20(DST)
and Flashboards 6.3 patch 20?
There always seems to be some slight incompatibility issues, especially
when it comes to Flashboard 6.3 qualifications and Mid-Tier 7.x.x

Re: Using DSO to swap dockets between ARS ITSM 5 ITSM 7

account for every discrepency between the above two items

My prediction is that this will lead to a maintenence nightmare in the
short term, taking away from time that would be better spent performing the
upgrade.

To put into the context of a scenario:
You set up both servers; you set up the DSO between the two server; you
fight a never ending battle of problems with the DSO feed between the two
servers; you burn all your time firefighting instead of doing an upgrade.

I'm not saying it's impossible to take this approach, but I see far too
many possiblities for problems and would therefore discourage it.

**
I second Joe in upgrading to Mid Tier 6.3. We've been using it fine for the past year against ARS 6.0.1. You will enjoy a much better performing and stable mid tier!

Otherwise there is only one trick in setting up the mid tier with WebSphere Edge as a load balancer, which is the requirement to use the 'sticky' option for the session persistence. This can be set at the cluster level. (ndcontrol cluster set...)

Let us know what specific issues you are having.

On 4/29/06, Joe DeSouza [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Before I proceed, is there any chance that you might want to upgrade to ARS version 6.3? There are distinct advantages of upgrading to ARS 6.3 rather than staying on the version you are currently on especially when trying to set up a server group to use behind a load balancer. Besides ARS
6.3 in my experience with patch 13 is a lot more stable than ARS 6.0.1 at any patch level especially the Mid-Tier. The Mid-Tier for ARS 6.3 is also redesigned in its basic architecture, so it works a tadbit faster because of its newcaching mechanism.

Let me know if you are willing to upgrade to ARS 6.3 as if you are I'll give you the information on how to set up the load balancer for ARS 6.3 - this method is specific to this particularversion of the ARS and will not work for the earlier versions.

If you decide to stick with ARS 6.0.1, I'll give you the alternate older method to set it up (which also works with ARS 6.3, but you will not really enjoy some of the advantages of the new version if you use the older method to set it up...)
