Re: Destination Problem: Upgrading from 7.6.04 to 8.1.02

2015-04-14 Thread Patil, Vivek
Joe is right. 8.1.02 Patch1 is just bundle of hotfixes . One cannot perform
upgrade from 7604 using that.

@Karthick :
1] Please download 8.1.02 release installer whose size will be around 1.5 GB
>> Execute 8.1.02 config checker utility for config checks .

2] Upgrade AR using installer present in ARSUITEKit.zip.
3] Then you can apply AR 8.1.02 patch.

If you want to upgrade ITSM to 8.1.02 then after AR upgrade :
1]] Execute BPCU to check if any invalid customizations in BASE forms or
workflows.
2] Create overlays if any illegal customizations present.
3] Execute 8.1.02 config checker utility for ITSM pre-checks and config
checks.

Thanks,
  Vivek

Not to pick up on the obvious, but is that patch cumulative? You are trying to
apply it to a 7.6.04 system so if that patch is not cumulative, you might want
to first upgrade it to a 8.1.x base version and then apply patches.

Re: Upgrade to 8.1.2

2015-04-08 Thread Patil, Vivek
Please setup new environment , install present version products and then import
 DB from PRODUCTION.

After that, I will recommend you to use config checker which is packaged with
AR Installer zip file. The tool has ability to find most of configuration and
unique ID violation issues due to which remedy upgrades can fail. It will save
your efforts.

Note : no need to revert DB if upgrade fails. We can fix the issue and re-run
installer….You can prepare a document with all issues you encounter during the
process.

Additional documentation :

1] https://kb.bmc.com/infocenter/index?page=content&id=KA400850
>> this KB mentions all important links and documents related to pre and post
>> 8.1 upgrade.
>> Refer cook book attached to KB for solutions on upgrade issues.

2] You may find msm arx failures. We can fix them after upgrade.

3] asi_MSM_MigrationTasks_cfg.arx during ITSM upgrade import may take long
time if data > 200. This increases upgrade time .. if you have multiple
environments then we can share the workaround to save 10 hrs. We skip those
2-3 arx imports and execute a direct SQL command to update required data.

Thanks,
  Vivek

Please check whether value of BMC_AR_SYSTEM_HOME is unique at below locations:
1] C:\windows\ProductRegistry.xml
2] AtriumCoreInstalledConfiguration.xml
3] environment variable BMC_AR_SYSTEM_HOME

Questions:

different ..can you share screenshot of welcome screen.
2] In %TEMP%\ atriumcore_install_log.txt you should be able to find where

Tips :
1] check the class in atriumcore_install_log.txt which is throwing this error.
2] Once known, you can use JAVA debugger and check that code of that class …it
will help you to find what’s wrong.

I would think that NOT finding an invalid install would be a good thing, but
apparently not in this case. So... the atrium patch installer cannot find our

Support has sent us new ARSystemInstalledConfiguration.xml and

verified that the BMC_AR_SYSTEM_HOME path is set correctly.

We are on Windows 2008 SP2 server

We have a preference already, just want to confirm. Also, what are some

Hi Lisa,
If you are doing upgrade to 8.1 Sp2 then check whether you can copy

Starting from 8.1 SP2 BMC Remedy Installers use default temp denoted by
=-Djava.io.tmpdir.

export _JAVA_OPTIONS=-Djava.io.tmpdir=

# Can you share below information :
1] Install Logs : for what path is installer throwing an error ? check for
severe keyword in TEMP\*Install.log file
2] Share the Zip All install logs collected using Maintenance Tool
3] Try to use Java Debugger and check the code in setup.jar of installer.

Which installer is throwing this ? AR or ITSM ?

I want to thank everyone for their help. I've tried all of your suggestions and
nothing it working (I did not try the quota thing though from the MSDN link -
that's the only thing I did not try).

What I'm going to do is try to upgrade from 7.6.4 SP4 to SP5 and see if I get

not allowing me to read or install (even though I have admin rights on the

Stay tuned!

Personally I would do the install like this ...

Shift Right-Click on the Disk1 folder you extracted to the D drive and choose
"Open command Window here"
In the command prompt do:
SET TEMP=D:\TEMP
SET TMP=D:\TEMP
setup.cmd

This will set the environment to the temp folder you want the install to use
and will also run the install as admin.

Hi Anish!

I did not run the installer from the zip file. I open up the zip file and take
the disk1 folder and move it under the D: drive and then double click on the

Just to confirm, did you extract the install files before running the installer?

I have seen this when you open the downloaded zipped file directly by double
clicking and running the installer?

Try this,
Right click downloaded zip file and extract using winzip or any other third
party utility to a folder on your d drive. This will extract all files to the
directory specified. Run the installer from there

Hi Brad,
Please check what is failed in 8.1 SP1 because of which you see this error
during upgrade.

Please take DB backup .

One will have to fix the failure.

Contact BMC Support to resolve the issue.
Do not force the installation or upgrade or delete files manually. Doing so

Has anyone experienced this before and if so any advice?

Thanks in Advance

Hi Aedrian,

   Can you please refer
https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/itsm81/Configuring+Oracle+databases

And
https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/itsm81/Installing+the+BMC+Remedy+ITSM+Suite+Preconfigured+Stack

In your case we would recommend you to review Oracle Configuration as provided
by BMC. Let us know the results.

NOTE :

#For 8.1 ITSM and Oracle 11g we observed installer hanging once. #ORACLE Bug ID
is: 13017584

The workaround for hang issue is to make use of Special Oracle parameters for
"_use_zero_copy_io=false".

Define this parameter in init.ora file for the instance and restart DB. (You
can find this file under \database directory. Generally this file is
named as "init.ora".)

Has anyone ever encountered an issue running the 8.1 stack installer -
particularly at the Execute SQLs part? (Screenshot attached)

I can see that it was able to create only the ACTLINK table, nothing after

Even the C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Local\Temp\ARSystemDBImport.log does not

Re: AR System 8.1 on AIX

2014-05-29 Thread Patil, Vivek
The 8.1.01.001 [ which is 8.1 SP1 Patch1 ] contains only MidTier fixes. When
8.1 Sp1 Patch1 was planned , critical fixes were shipped as part of it ; all
of them being MidTier in Patch1

@Frank : The AR Server Patch Project consists of multiple features /
components viz. AR Server , Approval , Assignment Engine , Email Engine ,
MidTier , Developer Studio.
So the installer name is AR Patch but it has updates only for midTier. Lets
say if in future 8.1 SP1 Patch2 is shipped for AR , Approval fixes then they
will be part of same installer called as AR System Patch Installer 8.1.01.002 .
Please excuse me as I may not write exact name seen on installer title.

Do you have any specific query here ? which is still un-answered ?

Thanks,
  Vivek

Hi Pritch,
I saw SLM 8.1.01 installers on EPD. I am still waiting for official
notification mail .
Are you able to see SLM 8.1.01 on EPD ?

Note : Few folks will have this doubt . Will SLM 8.1 SP1 correct the messed up
environment :

1] If you already installed 8.1 GA SLM on top of 8.1 SP1 ITSM then SLM 8.1.01
will not correct it.
>> i think so because

a] when one installs 8.1 GA SLM on top of ITSM 8.1 Sp1 then version of RCF and
RAF is 8.1.01 . So SLM 8.1 SP1 installer finds that system has latest ITSM
Foundation [ RCF + RAF ] so it wouldn't correct ?

b] Also SLM 8.1 SP1 installer does not package 79 objects that are deleted by
8.1 GA SLM.

2] 8.1 SP1 SLM is released with additional application fixes and as a
compatible version.

3] Only solution for a system where 8.1 GA SLM was installed on ITSM 8.1 SP1 by
mistake is :

>> Upgrade ITSM , SRM to 8.1 SP2 [ not released yet ] or create an issue and
>> get it resolved from BMC Support or RnD team .

Thanks,

When is BMC going to take all of this new-found, private investor money and
start spending it on Quality and Assurance Testing? Rome is burning and the
Barbarians are at the gates (SNOW). Every time that I read an ARSlist post like
this I can't help but think that BMC is not helping our cause, but instead they
taking away our armor to defend the Remedy kingdom from the constant attacks of
marauding bands of SNOW, CA, and HP sales barbarians.
I implore BMC to spend some of that private equity money on Quality Assurance
testing and stop making poorly-tested code available to us. I don't want to see
the carcass of Remedy being eaten by a SNOW vulture. We, who are on the
frontlines, cannot defend the kingdom by ourselves.

Fortunately we had another installation that had the forms/workflow.

Mine was (according to BMC) due to an issue with installing the SLM module -
They said it removed something like 79 items. it is a known issue and there is
a KB (unfortunately I did not save the KB number - and a hot fix - but you need
to actually ASK BMC for the hot fix - it's apparently not published. AND I
downloaded but did not try to apply the hot fix. Figured it was better to
correct it manually than to waste time with BMC. Seems to take them three or

Hi everyone:

I was wondering if anyone out there in arslist has installed the new ITSM 8.1
SP1 on Linux (RHEL) at all and has experienced the same issues I am
experiencing.

I had installed ITSM 8.1 Patch 002 and was working with it for several months
and everything was working fine.

On an new VM, I installed ITSM 8.1 SP1 (brand new install) with no error
messages. Working with BMC on a couple of support issues, there seems to be a
lot of "code" missing from the application. Things that worked before, no
longer work in SP1. Active links not there, AL Guides not there, data not
there, etc.

Anyone experience this or is it just something that may be local to my install
? I don't have a lot of hair left on my head and would like to save it for my
retirement years... :-)

1] Just importing the 79 objects is not complete solution.

2] The hotfix was a preventive step and will not fix anything,

Is this a TEST Box or PROD ?

Fortunately we had another installation that had the forms/workflow.

Mine was (according to BMC) due to an issue with installing the SLM module -
They said it removed something like 79 items. it is a known issue and there is
a KB (unfortunately I did not save the KB number - and a hot fix - but you need
to actually ASK BMC for the hot fix - it's apparently not published. AND I
downloaded but did not try to apply the hot fix. Figured it was better to
correct it manually than to waste time with BMC. Seems to take them three or
four days to reply.

Re: 8.1.0 installer

2014-05-16 Thread Patil, Vivek
Hi Philip,
1] After you complete Phase3 [ attribute deletion ] , you will get the option
to upgrade RKM.

2] But if you want to install RKM and then later delete attributes then here is
a way.

a] Open Share:Application_Properties form .
b] Search with Application ID = RA00C04FA081BAydPrRwNkQKqAbOMA
c] There will be a property called “Phase” . Its value should be 2-Complete.
d] Update it to 3-Complete.
e] Run Installer and Install RKM
f] Once done, please update Phase value = 2-Complete so that our SHARE:App
properties form have right values.
G] if not done , then there might be upgrade issues in future.

Let me know if this helps you.

Is this a Test Environment ?

Thanks,
  Vivek

Subject: 8.1.0 installer

Hello List,

We are trying to install RKM 8.1 into our environment (STG). We never had RKM
installed in the past.

I upgraded in place our current 7.6.04 SP2 to ARS 8.1.01, CMDB 8.1.0, ITSM
8.1.0, SLM 8.1.0, and SRM 8.1.0, but since RKM was not installed, the ITSM
installer had it unchecked. I assumed I could install it later.

As many have already experienced, we were not ready to move all of our CI
attributes to the AST:Attribute form and delete them from the CDM. So, we took
option '2' (Copy CI to attributes and leave CDM alone). When I try running the
ITSM installer again for RKM, it is only giving me the third option, whereby
all attributes are deleted from CDM (all others are greyed out).

As I said we are not prepared for this. Question, how do I 'trick' the
installer to forego this input screen or allow me to 'click' on option 2 again?

Re: AR System /ITSM 7.6.4 Memory

Can you share a use-case ?

Hi,

We have been experiencing latency and other errors on our Remedy Production
Server.
Total memory = 24 G
Cache memory = 4 G
Buffer =  6 G
Swap = 8 G
Free memory = 150 mb.

Our Lead, who has some Linux, and no Remedy Development - told us to ignore the
150 mb, because with Linux, as long as the server has the 5G of cache, then
Remedy will use the cache so he sees no reason for concern. It appears as if
Remedy is not using the cache though based on the performance. Our Lead stated
- unless there is an error in the Remedy logs that states "memory low" - then
we do not have a memory issue. Over the last few days, the free memory went
from 1 Go to 150 mb free. However I was told that this is how Linux works, and
there really is no problem at all. Also, this is a Remedy system where the
tables are very large, and increasing by the day, and there is no archiving. We
are in a server group.

How do we know for sure if there is a memory issue (i.e. leaking memory, wrong
sizing etc)? or if Remedy is using this cached memory?

One will have to manually reconcile the customizations on Base Objects.

Hi Raj,
Yes you will lose your customizations if you are doing it again in Base Mode.
Better way to maintain these customizations, do it in Overlay Mode i.e Best
Practise Customization Mode.
Or if you insist on Base Mode, then do it after 8.1 upgrade.

Hi All,
We are working on ARS upgrade from v5.1.2 to v8.1. Currently, I am on ARS
v7.6.04(from v5.1.2>v6.3>v7.1) and working towards upgrading to ARS v8.1.
We have decided to stay with Base Development mode and all the objects
currently show as Unmodified in Developer Studio. While upgrading from v7.1 to
v7.6.04, we lost customizations on User and Group form.

At this point, I am working on silent installer script to run the upgrade to
v8.1 - now if I create customizations on User/Group forms in Base Development
mode, would I lose them on upgrade to ARS v8.1?
If yes, I might be better off saving some time re-doing customizations on
v7.6.04 on User/Group forms and just re-do them on reaching v8.1 but not on
v7.6.04?

Please advise,
