Seems like a really easy setting to set, but it's not giving me the

I even tried adding the On Behalf Of Setting for our company (In addition

Plus, even though we have FTS enabled, the search box does not bring up

I did find a article on the BMC communities site (

I have escalated this to BMC Support, however I wanted to know if you guys

Re: AR license user license needed for Smart-IT

2014-11-20 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Me and Howard worked together on this issue. There is no separate license
required for smart IT. User can have fixed or floating license.

Important part is permission that controls whether you want to login to
smart IT as an administrator or Agent.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

My understanding is that there wasn’t a separate license required for
SmartIT, it just uses the underlying ARS/ITSM licenses. I see SmartIT as
just an alternative Mid-Tier in that respect (no separate user license
required for MT vice user tool). I have no idea why changing the user from
float to fixed would suddenly grant access.

Re: Process designer + ars 8.1 sp 2

2013-12-04 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hello Andrew,

I believe I provided you with a workaround as mentioned below

known defect # SW00459047 and I have created KA # KA403934 for a
workaround.

Here are the steps mentioned in the KA

Step to implement

01. Take backup of existing arserverd/arserver.exe
02. Stop ARServer
03. Download the unpatch version(8.1) of arserver.exe/arserverd
04. Give proper permissions
05. Start ARServer
06. Install PDICT component
07. Once Install complete, switch back to original arserver binary.

KA # KA403934

Also, This has been fixed in later release of PD which I believe targeted
sometime in end of Jan. In this release, we have made the installer of PD
unified with other ITSM installs so you wont run into similar issue.

Reason for error # During install of PDICT, we make a GSI (Get Server
Information Call ) and we have hard coded a value against which it was
checked. Patch 002 string look differ from unpatch version, hence you got
the mentioned error.

About advantage over prior releases are I think as below

- You can launch the PD client from Browser which was not possible earlier
- You can map the process with Incident/Change/Problem/Work Order
- Graphical Interface for the Processes/ you can add wait/time tasks

Hope this helps.

Vaibhav

It appears to be related to a bug # SW00445924 - Cant release the the file

See if the handles count increasedecrease time to time or what is it when
the server got crashed.

Re: 8.1 ITSM Installation failed

2013-04-15 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hello Prashant,

The command you showed is trying to get the application version from
SHARE:Application Properties

The *appinfo* subcommand sets and retrieves application property
information from the AR System form “SHR_Application_Properties”. This is a
composite RIK command with its own subcommands specified in *–o* command
line parameter. Each record in SHR_Application_Properties has the following
fields, which are accessible via RIK:

GUID – application GUID (normally this GUID is registered on appscentral
ARS server)

Name – application property name. Such as ‘version’, ‘name’, ‘installation
dir’ and so on

Value – application property value

Status – status of the property record. Can be “inactive” or “active” (or 0
and 1 in integer representation).

Open SHARE:Application_Properties and verify if any record exists for GUID
- KM00C04FA081BAkzXdRAKRHW5AtFIB.

Also let us know if this is the fresh install or you have attempted install
multiple times. To confirm whether the installer starts in Fresh mode or
upgrade mode, you can search for the keyword QTHEB and look what return
code it results - If it return Null value, that a indicates it started the
installer in fresh mode otherwise, if it returns any value, thats a
indicates of upgrade install. In case, it returns a value from previous
failed install, it wouldnt be a good practice to start the install again
unless clear the values from below

- ProductRegistry.xml for the failed application

- InstallConfiguration.xml

- SHARE:Application_Properties

In case of failure, please log a ticket with support and attached logs
captured within ITSM Log zipper.

Hope this helps.

 Dave,

 ** **

Best practice would be to promote your custom development from base mode
 into custom objects in the

 best practice layer.

 ** **

The best practice layer (the overlay) contains two types of things.
Overlays which are things that are

customizations (modifications) to things in the base layer. And, Custom
objects which are objects that you

have added to the definitions in base mode.

 ** **

Your objects are custom objects not supplied by others.

 ** **

This eliminates the confusion of switching modes between your custom
 definitions and making overlays of

 BMC definitions.

 ** **

You can move things from the base layer into the overlay.

 ** **

Note that the BPCU utility will automatically move things for you that are
not BMC objects from the base layer

to the best practice layer. You probably want to fix any overlays of your
 custom object first (eliminate them

and make the update to the object itself, then move it.

 ** **

 I hope this helps,

I believe When ORA-00904 occurs, you must enter a valid column name as it
is either missing or the one entered is invalid. The invalid identifier
most common happens when you are referencing an invalid alias in a *select*
 statement.

What happens when you look at the t table structure for T740

Desc t740

Does this list the column C536870919?

Also, when you run below query from db, does it work

Select C536870919 from t740;

Can you enable SQL log and paste the snippet of logs when you click on that
drop down list.

even know if anyone has ever opened it in the webclient. On it, there is a
menu to select a support group and a drop-down list to select a task
status. When the users changes on of these two fields, a table showing the
tasks is refreshed, using the selected values as EXTERNAL qualifications.
Works without any problems on the User Tool.

 ** **

Now…on the webclient the form takes unusually long to load. The table is
not showing, not at all, not even the header / footer. Now it gets really
interesting: When the user selects a status from the drop-down list,
ORA-00904 is raised, pointing to T740.C536870919, and ARWARN 311. This
 is the drop-down list itself.

 ** **

 What I’ve done:

  - flushed cache

 - restarted midtier

 - checked the form and all field names for characters the midtier could
 trip over

 - renamed the drop-down list and the table

Re: Service Packs and Patches

2013-02-18 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hello Rishi,

This new process started with 8.0 will continue with next releases.

The patch install will be on top of the GA build or Service Packs. The
patch installer requires that the product already be installed at the
appropriate version and Service Pack level for that particular patch. The
patch installer only includes items (files and defs) that were fixed in
that patch and is not a complete install of the products. The patch
install checks for the correctly installed versions.

Service Packs will be roll-ups of patches and will generally include all
the fixes from the prior patches. The Service Pack install is a complete
install and the GA build does not have to be installed first. In general,
a Service Pack should always be applied with the installer rather than
trying to do a file by file install.

If a customer wants to do an initial install of say 8.0 Patch 2, he must:

1. Install 8.0

2. Install Patch 2

3.

Same goes with any subsequent patches; the Hotfixes should only be built
off the latest patch unless a significant business case arises.

Once a Service Pack comes out, then the hotfixes will be based on that
until its first patch comes out.

Service Packs, Patches, and Hotfixes are cumulative. They contain all
the fixes that were built prior to its release.

Hope this helps.

Note:In BMC Remedy AR System 6.x, it is possible to run a BMC Remedy AR
System server in non-Unicode mode with a Unicode database. In BMC Remedy AR
System 7.x and later, this type of configuration is not supported.

I have tried in my test system prior to upgrade and it worked well.

01. export the database dump

exp system/admin tablespaces=ARSYSTEM file=ARSYSTEM.dmp

02. Import again within the database which is configured as unicode instance

imp system/admin tablespaces=arsystem file=arsystem.dmp FROMUSER=ARADMIN
TOUSER=ARADMIN

When you import it on unicode instance, it will do charset conversion

Export file created by EXPORT:V10.02.01 via conventional path
import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses AL32UTF8 character set (possible charset conversion)

03. once you able to get the db import, run the 7.1 installer and select
unicode this time
04. Perform upgrade install of 7.6.04.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand your suggestions, please note our
 current frame:

 given that

 1) we need to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.6.04 but we need to stay on our
current app server machines and our current db machines
 2) our current production ARS 7.1 installation is non UNICODE and current
oracle db is UNICODE and everything has always been running fine so far

what's puzzling for us is that it seems that the upgrade from 7.1 to
7.6.04 (running the installer) is forcing us to convert our ARS app server
installation from non UNICODE to UNICODE, while we would like to avoid that
because it would imply extra costs, time, maybe machines etc..

Answers from BMC on this topic so far have been that either we convert our
oracle instance from UNICODE to non UNICODE to continue with the upgrade,
OR we do a new fresh install of ARS 7.6.04 on a new db instance, in
UNICODE, and then move objects and data from current servers to new
 instances/servers.

Both ways are hardly viable for us, due to a number of
 reasons/constraints, that's why we're seeking advise here

Re: Any tool similar to Abydos Analyser!!

2012-12-17 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hello Stan,

I think the use of sub-processes would support this.

 There are 2 options:

A *sub process task* is a way of linking in another process. When tasks are
created, tasks for the main process are created, along with tasks for the
sub process. The linking is done in such a way that the sub process runs
all its tasks before passing control back to the main process tasks. I have
tested with a 3 level process, which is attached. This is a good way of
reusing a set of tasks that are the same in several processes. If using
this, the sub process used should not have a starting task set, otherwise
it will be assigned before the sub process task has been reached. Note also
that you need to be careful when changing the sub process that you also
update the version number in the sub process task in the parent process,
this is not done automatically.

A *start new process action*. When this action is run, additional tasks are
generated at run time for the process defined. These additional tasks are
run concurrently with the calling process, so slightly different to a *sub
process task.*

*hope this helps*

 ** Susan/Stan,

As a customer, I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.
The reason it doesn't come with ARS is probably because in order to get
your processes that you build to work within Remedy, it needs to leverage
Task Management. That is the underlying engine that your processes use to
actually enforce the flows you build. It's all within TMS.
Because of that, you also cannot insert Ad-Hoc tasks in there as it would
break the pre-built nature of the process flow. The whole idea is to
enforce a standard process. Ad-Hoc would break that in most cases.

3. Fast Deployment at lower Cost - Process designers use a simple graphical

4. Reduced Support and Upgrade Costs - Remedy Administrators have reduced
time and effort in supporting the Remedy applications as there is no
additional development or customisation. Significant effort is also saved
in upgrading as Remedy applications are not customised.

5. Streamlined processes – Process Designer allows the automation of
processes through the implementation of automated actions removing the
necessity of manual intervention where possible.

6. Adherence to management, compliance and audit requirements – Not only is
the process diagram a self documenting description of the process as
implemented but also the Process Tracker provides a diagrammatic view of
the current status and historical flow of every transaction through the
process.

7. Simplified User Interface – Process Designer enables decision trees to
be built quickly to provide a simplified user interface for data required
to support processes. This ensures user productivity and consistent quality
data.

8. Automated Version Control – Process Designer includes automated
generation of version-stamped processes so that you can easily roll-back to
or report on usage of previous versions without the need to get into any
workflow development.

Process Designer provides these benefits through a graphical interface that
allows process designers to build processes that can be executed within
Remedy based on tasks, dependencies, decisions, rules (such as Task
Assignment and SLAs ,actions such as get user data, updates fields and send
emails).

Re: Installing AR Server 7.6.04 on Linux machine

2012-12-13 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hello Anand,

The installer says missing tempfile Did you running installer with
pre-created tablespace or you want installer to create tablespace.

If you let the installer takes care of the tablespace part, you wouldnt hit
into this error. Also during Database panel, select new temp tablespace.

I would do below

01. Drop tablespace, Role, user created on your Linux Db
02. Drop directory structure from /opt/bmc .../etc/arsystem
03. Run the installer again and let the installer create tablespace and
temp tablespace.
If you would want to run againest existing pre-created tablespace, you can
refer 7.6.04 Install Document Page 38

To use a previously created tablespace in BMC Remedy AR System
1 In a SQL*Plus window, create the tablespace. For example:
create tablespace arsys
datafile 'c:\qa\data\QATST\data\arsys.dbf' size 500M reuse;

2 Create a user. For example:
create user aradmin identified by AR#Admin#
default tablespace arsys
temporary tablespace temp
quota unlimited on arsys;

3 Create a role for the user you created in step 2 above. For example:
create role ARole_arsys not identified;

4 Set the privileges for the role. For example:
grant alter session, create cluster, create database link, create
sequence, create session, create synonym, create table, create
view, create procedure, create trigger, query rewrite to
ARole_arsys;

5 Grant the role to the user. For example:
grant ARole_arsys to aradmin;

Hope this helps.

Re: Problems with armonitor starting during 7.6.04 install , armonitor giving wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

2012-12-11 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hello Paul,

It mentioned in Sp2 tech bulletin that you need to install additional
packages when you intsall 7.6.04 sp2 and later againest RHEL 6 and higher

The version 7.6.04 Service Pack (SP) 2 installers for BMC Remedy AR System
and BMC Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) Suite Preconfigured Stack are
supported on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux® 6 operating system.
Before you install BMC Remedy AR System 7.6.04 SP2 and BMC Remedy ITSM
Suite Preconfigured Stack version 7.6.04 SP2, perform the following steps
to installation the packages from the Red Hat install media:

1 Install the following 32-bit packages:

■ libX11-1.3-2.el6.i686.rpm
■ libXau-1.0.5-1.el6.i686.rpm
■ libxcb-1.5-1.el6.i686.rpm
■ libXext-1.1-3.el6.i686.rpm
■ libXi-1.3-3.el6.i686.rpm
■ libXtst-1.0.99.2-3.el6.i686.rpm

If you do not install these packages (32-bit), you cannot use the GUI
installers

2 Install the compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-69.el6.i686.rpm package.

If you do not install compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-69.el6.i686.rpm, you cannot
use the BMC Remedy AR System services.

Under the /usr/lib directory, verify whether the libstdc++.so.5 library is
present.
This is a part of the compat-libstdc++-33 package. If you do not find the
library, perform step 2.

4 Run the following commands to start the rpcbind process:
A # service rpcbind stop
B # rpcbind -i
C # service rpcbind status
5 Start the BMC Remedy AR System installer.

Before installing BMC Service Request Management, you must install the
following packages:
■ ncurses-devel-5.7-3.20090208.el6.i686.rpm
■ ncurses-libs-5.7-3.20090208.el6.i686.rpm

Hope this helps.

I find it more useful to run the install as root and later convert that
install to non-root. also one need to make sure there is sufficient temp
space otherwise, define IATEMPDIR variable before the install.

Prior starting install, it is always good to check
- whether DB is unicode or not
- whether specific characterset is installed and set for e.g.
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
- you able to connect to oracle database

Re: How to restrict wild card searches

2012-10-25 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Allow-Unqual-Queries: F

Add this parameter in ar.cfg/ar.conf

Indicates whether the AR System server allows unqualified searches.
Unqualified searches are ARGetListEntry or ARGetListEntryWithFields calls
in which the qualifier parameter is either NULL or has an operation value
of 0 (AR_COND_OP_NONE). These searches can cause performance problems
because they return all requests for a given form. (This operation is
especially problematic for large forms.) Valid values for this option are T
and F. The default value is T (allow unqualified searches).

Note: Please Refer Page 323 of AR 7.5 Config guide for more info on this
parameter.

Hope This helps.

Re: Overlays??

2012-10-25 Thread vaibhav wadekar
Hi,

I know this is very basic, however please confirm the ITSM version that you
are running. To check the same, open the user Tool and Open form
SHARE:Application_Properties

Property Name- Name
Property Value - Incident

This will tell you whether it is 7.6 or 7.6.04

if it 7.6.04, you can able to create overlay for HPD:Help Desk form and do
the modification in best Practice Customization Mode.

However if it is 7.6, I would advise you to take backup of HPD:Help Desk
form by exporting it and then make changes to HPD:Help Desk. If you using
latest Dev studio againest 7.6 ITSM, you need to make sure, you are in Base
Development Mode.

Hope this helps.

Hello Ken,

Can you confirm what Patch level you are on for AR 7.5? The current Patch
for 7.5 is I believe Patch 008, Did you try running patch 008 binary for
arserver.exe and run into similar issue.

Yes FTS will work in different Port as well.

You might have to look for the correct port number configure with
pluginsvr_config.xml available at location

D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\fts

pluginsvr_config
port9998/port
regPortMapperfalse/regPortMapper
encryptionPolicy2/encryptionPolicy
publicKeyAlg4/publicKeyAlg
publicKeyExpiry86400/publicKeyExpiry
dataEncryptionAlg1/dataEncryptionAlg
dataKeyExpiry2700/dataKeyExpiry
numCoreThreads5/numCoreThreads
numSelectorThreads2/numSelectorThreads
workQueueMonitorLogInterval0/workQueueMonitorLogInterval
workQueueTaskThreshold5/workQueueTaskThreshold

and in ar.cfg/ar.conf

Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARF.FTS ARSYS.ARF.FTS servername:9998

Hope this helps.

Those fields are SR Fields in your variable mapping. Normally, that info
is passed into the requester info for a change/work order/incident. You can
map the fields as you wish to whatever variables you've configured in the
PDT. You can format the data however you wish in the variable mappings
 section of the SRD.
 Does this answer your question?

Yes.. I'm ARSlisting while at the RUG kick off. Shame on me!!

 SRM 7.6.04 Patch 2

I am hoping this is an easy question and I am overlooking something. When
I click on a service request to submit (that creates an Incident); I have
the fields phone number, email, quantity and required date available to me
for edit. I get that I can configure which of these fields is visible.

If I modify these fields do they get pushed anywhere to the Incident OTB
without any configurations or customizations? If not, I would assume that
I have to add Phone Number, Email to the AOT, it just surprises me that
these arent available as Target Data out of the box for Incident.

So are other companies just pushing all the header information into the
 Summary field like the following:

 Customer Phone: 555.555.
 Email: joeu...@bmc.com
 Qty: 2
 Required Date: 10/22/2012

 Summary: This is a test

 OR

Are companies adding fields to the AOT to house these values?

 Thanks
