Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter Display Problem
I'm not sure he set it up correctly. It does seem to work initially, plays music and display looks OK, and then it glitches out. He sent me the image that is in the link in the above post. I suspect a server problem of some kind (having owned several SBs and a TP for 4+ years, I know what kinds of things go wrong). The devices themselves don't do much that can break, as I understand it. Any issues I experienced were always related to server probs. I am using an older version of Squeeze Center, (because newer ones caused probs on my network). He seems convinced that "the device" is the problem, and I am not at all convinced of that -- quite the opposite. In this case perhaps the solution could be not to use my external dac for the cd-transport but to use the Transporter DAC and connect the Transporter also via RCA analogue to my poweramp. I still can use my external dac for streaming as that dac is connected to my power-amp with XLR. In that way I can use the Transporter volumecontrol for all sources and only need to switch the power-amp (there are switches on the back) from XLR to RCA when I want to listen to a cd (what does happen often). DAC output stages are like cartridges - pick one to suit your own > taste. I agree that as far as it comes to music, this kind of experience is very subjective. Yet, there are at least five people I know that liked the sound.. Objectively speaking though, these op-amps I am talking about are *discrete*, not SMD. The benefits are much less inter-modulated distortion (?? I believe this is the coined term..). That's like comparing Class AB and Class A amplifiers. Also, since the sound became "warmer" (and respectfully, less analytic and metallic), I think that higher-order harmonics's amplitude decreased. [ We do not have 10K$ Audio Precision so we could not measure, although I very wanted to.. ] We did not modify topology, did not touch the digital interface, which is in our opinion - excellently built.
